      I remember a Mike Malasta video and he said the exact same thing. Iirc he said it was something like it's not exactly a rotation but more of a right hip back then left hip back.

      Indeed, this was a light bulb moment for sure. Was swinging while listening and this tip immediately made it click together so much more nicely. Instead of my arms feeling floaty, they felt solidly connected to the deliberate back movements of each hip

    I like that you're not pushing a "magic move that no one tells you about". You HAVE TO put in the time and do lots of reps, moving to full speed only after you've mastered slow speed.

    Great lesson. I struggled with irons for so long till I figured out that I was leading with my right hip instead of pulling my left hip back. This is rarely talked about and honestly didn't even consider that pushing the right was different than pulling the left. Game changer.

    Watching your drills on how to bring the club down correctly from the top has created a light bulb moment for me. Thanks to you my over the top move has been cured and I have way more power/distance.
    15 years of struggling with this including many failed pga pro lessons and you have cured my slice. THANK YOU!!

    How in the hell have I not heard such a great explanation for 10 years? This is my first time commenting on a video EVER! Always been told to shift my weight, rotate hips, right shoulder comes down, etc. Because I was never getting my left hip back enough. I end up either early extending or not getting enough rotation, which causes me to stay behind. I now think left hip back and then right hip back. Feels so fluid! Easily the best lesson on UA-cam. So excited for the season!

      It is excellent advice and things I've just been figuring out myself after decades of thinking I am not flexible enough etc etc. The reason is he's had to figure it out himself from mistakes he himself has made. The typical pro was always naturally good at golf and didn't ever have these issues to start with and so did not have these problems to solve.

  • @vj19xrk9

    I've been working on my right hip rotation in the backswing together with extension going back. I've previously attempted to trigger the downswing with left foot pressure which has given me fantastic impact and distance but, it has been inconsistent. I like your expression and thought/action of the "left hip back". It's more simplistic but, an easier thought/action trigger for me. Getting the left hip back makes more sense than left foot pressure. Excellent breakdown, JC!

    This is pure goId, this is rarely covered by the maninstream, and for good reason i bet, i spent many years getting the hips moving the wrong way. The hands and arms had to move so quick so they had time to get to the ball before the hips blocked the path, this hip movement is exactly how they should move, the arms and hands will have plenty of time to get to the ball and from the inside path, without trying to force them.

  • @waynesorensen7071

    I noticed max homa starts his backswing with his hips turning and keeps his arm Y intact. In other words don’t start bswing with your arms/torso. This will help you rotate your hips more on the bswing (right hip back) and will help you get higher up (rotate arms l/torso more) at the top of the bswing. Very subtle, like many things in the golf swing!

  • @Dreama40

    Great video for preventing early extension which is a killer in the downswing! Hip depth is definitely crucial, my thoughts on the downswing are left hip back and right shoulder down, this keeps my spine angle and posture on the downswing and prevents ee.

    I learned from another site, Padraigs channel that you need to move arms down as fast as possible, almost straight down. Says hands reach their max speed around waist height. The first drill seems to contradict this. Please elaborate. The drill looks like an over the top move, turning upper body before the hands drop fast

    So, if you do the slow arms on a closer shot (say 20 yards) it feels like it doesn’t work and you lose control of the distance. Does it not work for shots like that?

    Moving left hip back too soon is causing me to spin out ie I think you have left out the transfer of pressure/ weight towards the /left/target.

  • @jeffsimeone2768
    @jeffsimeone2768 10 місяців тому +2

    But you have to re-center lateral before you push into ground with lead foot to clear lead hip. If i just get right hip deep and immediately push lead hip back, then i top everything. I feel like i pressure into lead foot from inside right heel. Like from the 2 rear inside heal spikes. Correct? However, the downswing is only .2 seconds. No time to think of doing both. Very difficult. I feel i need to feel lateral and that forces my lead hip back Naturally. Is this a good feel/ pattern?

      You could try stack and tilt for a few months, then gradually bring back some initial weight shift. Check out Saguto golf too, he’s all about keeping weight on the front foot.

    • @dj-flights7376
      @dj-flights7376 10 місяців тому +1

      Ps. If you do want to use weight shift, you should already start shifting your weight back forward just after your left arm passes parallel on the way UP. Most people are shifting their weight way too late, you gotta do it early like that.

      You,re probablly keeping to much weight on your trail foot, as the right hip goes back you need to be loading weight on to the lead leg , if you don't have pretty much all the weight on your lead leg when you start down you won't have enough weight on the lead side through the strike.

    • @golfnut69
      @golfnut69 10 місяців тому +1

      I think you should start moving towards the target before you reach the top. Most golfers move off the ball and laterally away from the target circa 1 to 2 inches in the backswing. At the top of the backswing you should have moved laterally back to where you were at address. This move should mean you should have approx 50/50 pressure in both feet in transition which should then result in increasing pressure in your lead foot as the downswing progresses into impact.
