If you're going to make an episode about southern food you better damn well include some biscuits with sausage gravy, grits, fried catfish, fried dill pickles, pulled pork (smoked with hickory or apple wood), and cast iron cornbread. What the heck is liver mush?
Liver mush is basically all the remnants of a pig combined. I'm from NC and it originated in NC, Cleveland county to be specific.
MMmmm!!! Love liver mush!!! (love everything on that episode, actually and yes, I'm from NC!)
Mimi Neko. Finally someone knows what I'm talking about!! 👐👐
Even Australia has fried pickles and pulled pork man.
We aren't so different.
Alexis Richardson GO TEXAS :D ..... But were all from the south, i cant judge NC
No real southerners were consulted in the making of this video
Facts
^
💯😂😂
True
Sorry, but all of you failed to quit thinking about what you were actually doing!!! Making another, classically over acted video. Why? So you could be seen on UA-cam. Get back with us when you can find a purpose in what you are about to submit.
Bless their little hearts, they think that’s southern food 😭
Michele S that is my exact same reaction to the “Americans try Australian foods”😂😂😂
Amen
it is, it's just really generic "Southern food"
@Isaiah Smith III yes, very much so. It is "southern food", it's just incredibly generic...except the Livermush, that's oddly specific (to Shelby, NC).
There no bbq
Wait, since when are southerners not Americans?
"It feels like a bean!" That's because peanuts are actually legumes.
Well, we did revolt and become another nation until being forced to rejoin.
I was confused about the title too!
I guess I'm not American anymore
I guess that makes us southerners Dixie’s
Between 1861 and 1865
Why isn't this called 'Northerners and West Coasters Try Southern Food for the First Time'? Southerners are American too.
because it is part of a series that started out as Americans trying food from different countries and then they started try foods from different parts of the country they still call it "Americans try ..." so when you search for it all of them pop up.
Good point.. I didn't even notice that.
If you really want them to be that specific, it would be titled, "Individuals Who Hail From Elsewhere in the United States Sample Regional Cuisine from the Southeast Region of the United States for the First Time. Just watch the video and assume that it's implied.
true… didn't even notice that. (and the northern commenters have not really been treating us like it either 😒)
it doesn't say that southerners are not americans they are just saying people how happen to be americans that have never tried southern food try it for the first time
"They're like, you eat it and it's naptime."
Y'all have no idea how true that is..
+Cäñðiï especially on holidays like after easter
YES!!!
Fact!!! In texas here and when my mom or grandma cooks im instantly on a food coma
+Cäñðiï ikr i was thinking this when i heard it
southern food can be really good but it's also 2x more fulfilling
That girl said "ooh I love me a pickle"😂😂
"Californians try various foods from Walmart that market themselves with a vaguely 'southern' branding that in no way represent the foods of the south"
Also wtf, where's the fried chicken, smh
Yeah where’s our Fried chicken this makes me angry
Y'all make me angry. Always got something to pop off from the mouth instead of enjoying people enjoying our culture
There's no fried chicken, no country fried steak n mashed tatos with gravy, no ham n beans with cornbread...
@@jadenwalker2052 Didn't realize they needed the whole menu
It's just not a good representation of southern food.
I have lived in the south most my life and never have I ever heard of liver mush
Possibly a different version of liver pudding? That's what we have in NC.
Yeah, we have liver puddin' in SC. Harvin "liver pudding", made in Sumter, SC(my hometown), is pretty good. Neeses "liver mush" ain't bad either, just different than what I was raised on.
Western NC we call it liver mush, and its awesome. I always ate it on a biscuit with dukes mayonnaise.
Livermush I'm surprised is on their menu considering how specialized it is compared to the other foods. Livermush is really only loved in the Carolina Piedmont, most specifically around Cleveland County and Shelby, NC.
Totally shocked to see liver mush on here. It's really a NC piedmont thing. Wonderful stuff.
"What ever we do, the South goes harder ". As someone who has grown up in the South, that is very true.
Candy Kraze obviously we didn’t go very hard in the civil war lmao
@W J So why are people moving South?
Football
W J sounds like anywhere
"its like a hug from the lord"
MOCHI- MOCHI LMAO I read that all southern 😂
"Here is something that's good let's cover it in butter and gravy" yes we are geniuses, bless your hearts they left all the good stuff out....beans, brisket, FRIED okra. Bless their hearts
I’m thinking a good platter of southern food for them would be biscuits and gravy, grits, fried green tomatoes, pintos and cornbread, pecan pie or banana pudding and a nice glass of sweet tea to wash it down! That’s some good eating!
Am I the only one who never had fried green tomatoes that live in the south
@@tamiarenee3143 it's mainly in Alabama, so
Tamia Hawkins no, but I recommend it!
Yes girl! That’s real southern food right there💜😍
Kayley Montgomery shut up! Now I’m hungry again! ❤️❤️❤️
Who eats okra that ISNT FRIED?! WHAT?!
Do It With Dan Why are you everywhere
DAN I FUCKING LOVE YOU
Do It With Dan I KNOW!!! it's unholy man
IKR?!!?
I do but it's really slimy
I have lived in the south my entire life.... Georgia and South Carolina are my home. So WTF is liver mush? Ive never had pickled okra either. Should have done fried okra, Baked mac n' cheese, Grits, greens and so much more. I really want to take a northerner to my family reunions XDDD Chillin in someones old beat up house where the doors dont shut right and the toilet barely flushes and tables and tables full of food that everyone brings. Sitting on the porch steps with family you didn't even know you had XD Thats the southern way of it!
Indeed!
Preach it sister \`-`/
Amen!!!!
Right I'm like WTF is this sh*beep*?! lol
Yyeeesss!!! I agreee with that menu choice! Besides they needed to FRY the okra if they were going to serve it.
That was a horrible selection of “southern food” and the okra should’ve been fried!!!
Ruby Rai’lyn- thank you!👏🏼 This was an absolute train wreck!
Ruby Rai’lyn YES
Ruby Rai’lyn these people fr not knowing what okra is too
Realll
Exactly
As a southern woman, i can say THIS FOOD AINT SOUTHERN
As another southern woman, I can say YOUR PLATE DIDN'T GET ENOUGH VARIETY THEN
Well, the boiled peanuts and sweet tea are. So is the biscuits and ham with red-eye gravy. Not sure about the rest. Might depend on what part of the South one is from. Never heard of liver mush and never ate a Moon Pie, which is not from grandma, but from some corporation somewhere. Soutehrn regions are different and have different cuisine. Some Southern people like rice and some like grits (Ok, we all like grits).
@@karenbartlett1307 Moon Pies are a Mardi Gras staple here in Mobile, AL (where it actually originated but was made popular through NOLA's celebrations).
@@WhiteOleander730 Oh, ok I've seen them in stores but never ate one.
@@karenbartlett1307 I don't like them personally. They leave a greasy aftertaste.
Y'all should just come down south and have some real sothernfood.
@Bo Lep Trust me, it's no problem in the south. It's not the 40's anymore, the South isn't that racist anymore. ;)
@Bo Lep There are racist people everywhere, in the north and south. I've lived in Alabama my entire life. Im not saying there aren't gonna be racist people, but the south isn't the only place.
@@kennedyjacksondavis4994 I didn't say all people in the north were racist either.
It really isn't that bad. I have plenty of black friends and a few mixed relatives. I'm not saying it's all sunshine and rainbows, but it's not as bad you think
@Bo Lep Come to Georgia, it's pretty diverse. At least where I live.
I'm a bi-racial person myself and my school is full of colored people and those from all sorts of different communities and countries as well. We've also got some LGBT people here. It's a nice fun time. 👍
No biscuits & gravy? (Not the one they had) No cornbread? No southern Mac & cheese? No real barbecue? I pity. 😂
Biscuits and white sausage gray. yes. Ma'am!
no chicken and waffles!
what? no giblets or pig feet? they only did the easy stuff.
NO FUCKING CRAWFISH
shrimp and grits yum
There is so much wrong with this video I can’t even.
I don't even like okra.
"Americans?" Last I checked "Southern" was a subset of American.
Jerry Goodwin they different from the rest of America .0
Nah, they're from confederate.
so yall are gonna make a video about southern food and *not include grits???*
Katie Foodman or potatoes
They probably don't know how to make them correctly.
Right!
Natalie Healthcare it's just smashed corn what's so hard of making it?!!?
Katie Foodman it is BuzzFeed for crying out loud.. liberal Yankee fucksticks that don't know squat
Did the person who made this ever visit the south? Real Southern Food:
Fried okra>pickled okra (if anything is pickled, it's pig's feet or eggs)
White sausage gravy>red eye gravy
Fried chicken liver>liver mush (which I've never heard of)
Banana pudding>moon pies
Boiled peanuts = yes, but it's mostly a Georgia thing. Boiled peanuts in south Georgia are to hot dogs in New York city.
Sweet tea = the only thing they got right.
Not one mention of collard greens and ham hocks, fried green tomatoes, grits, or fried catfish. What kind of southern food montage it this?
Exactly right!
I'd even throw in a chicken fried steak as big as the plate.
NAILED it!!!
I'm a home grown Bama girl from Mobile. Moon Pies are my entire childhood. I just wish they brought them BlueBell.
So true I'm a bama girl I though the whole world new about moon pies
man I was thinking the same thing
This should have been called “people who were born in California and lived there their whole life try recipes from people who are also from California who have a great great cousin from North Carolina”
Lol
As someone from North Carolina we want nothing to do with California. Don’t even use North Carolina and California in the same sentence.
So true
@@cynthiayvonne6834I concur lol
they’re making southerners sound like a whole different species😂
Ikr
Right? This should be called “Californians try Southern Food for the first time” 😂
Where in the hell are the grits?
Right???
TrenchcoatNinja3 Oh my God, yes. And the collards.
TrenchcoatNinja3 bruh, grits are like oatmeal but more sloppy and are made with rice (or something like that)
you're welcome for the help : )
Corn, grits are made from corn, and DELICIOUS. Unless you put sugar in them, then you are a monster!
omg, you have to try some. go get an instant package, and add salt, pepper, and some cheese!
No fried okra!?! Fried green tomatoes?!? Deep fried pickles!?! You are missing out on good southern food.
Hell yeah we fry everything in the south. Fired green tomatoes are the best
As much as I love southern food I was never fond of the fried green stuff.
I love fried pickels I'm with yall
Montana Palmer yEs
Again Buzzfeed
"Californians are like...How can we add Kale to that?"
And Avacado
1:24 In other part of the country it's "*shrug* ham."
In the South it is "*in a voice so serious it makes your soul shiver* Ham."
Born and raised in Georgia and I haven't eaten half that shit!! They should've had Sweet tea, fried okra, fried green tomatoes, fried chicken, bbq, fried pickles(I know a lot of fried foods) buttermilk biscuits with sausage gravy, grits, potato salad, and sweet potato pie. Just a few of my favorite foods I've grown up on. (:
And how could I forget bbq pulled pork!!
STEAK
The north has steak too bud....
I know right!!!! I live in north Alabama and the food they gave them is not authentic. It is like Mexican s and taco bell. Real authentic southern food will make you never go back to the fancy stuff that costs 20 times more that you get up north. I hold nothing against northerners though. I love my doritos!
Kristi Hall We need BuzzFeed to make a remake with authentic recipes for everything mentioned above. Ya can't forget the smoked BBQ bacon!
"sugar ham"
Woah honey, try actual country ham. Its so salty it will actually dry your blood out.
Ikr xD Thing is we don't call it country ham its just regular ham
It's ham steak right? 😂 Yeah it's pretty salty but it's amazing
Eriplane yes
Ikr my family always cooks it with pineapple and such and it's still so salty
Eriplane yess!!! country ham is my favorite though!!
The way her neck went out and tightened when she said sweet tea and ladies 😂😂😂
I love boiled peanuts! They’re so good and smell great.
y'all aren't supposed to pickle okra! okra needs to be fried!
YES
Lived in the south all my live. Never even heard of "liver mush".
+Duncan Garrrett I'm from Texas, I've heard of everything on this list but scrapple and liver mush, myself...
I actually like it better pickled as opposed to fried. That's how I eat it in NC.
you can pickle literally anything & most of it taste good.
Southern comfort food is the fuckin best
Sergio Gutierrez you should rethink your entire life from now on
Exactly who would turn down all those amazing delicacies?
Thats why Southerners are so fat. Yet they aren't happy cause most of them are racist
Bruh....Bruh you don't even want to know
Lenny. It's a fact, sorry bro.
“southern food”
should’ve thrown some south louisiana cajun food in there 😉
damn right i was waiting to see crawfish on there not even catfish was shown on here tho....wtf
Cajun cuisine is different than your typical southern food.
Louisiana is it's own world.
Young Money Matt 03 they would go to heaven and back if they tried some good ass jambalaya or gumbo! Omgggggg! 😩
Suga_Kookie 219 yes ma’am they would be in another world
This makes my southern heart happy. Nothing like some good southern soul food on a holiday
you don't know disgust until you've had "southern" barbeque at a restaurant in new york
awful
exactly
My understanding is that you're hard-pressed to find restaurants in New York and Boston that cater to the average consumer that can successfully pull off such simple things as bbq, steak, etc., that we can sleepwalk through in the middle 90% of the country.
knifiac I've never had it but it's prolly not good then
cwimberley76 absolutely awful
Two words, CHEESE GRITS ! My favorite comfort food. I have introduced many yankees to my love-filled southern food. Spicy chicken livers, fried chicken, turnip greens, cornbread, fried green tomatoes,...my sweet tea is legendary becuse of 2 secret ingredients. That is why a LOT of southerners are "fluffy". LOL
lmao I love being "fluffy"!
Damn, wish you would tell the secret. I'm from the south and there is this one restaurant and also the tea at the Hilton in Louisiana in Cajun country has this really special taste. I ask them what it is and they just say it's Lipton. But there is some kind of special "umph" to it that I have wished for years to figure out. I usually drink unsweetened and use stevia these days but the taste is still there. What could it be?
A yankee lol
Leigh Knight Yankees kinda offends me (I'm from new jersey) sorry but we don't call you rebels or something btw sorry if I said it wring but we call you guys southerns so ya Yankees kinda offends me its just Me dude ok.
***** Hellllllll yes
I never felt the need to say this before but, what in TARNATION is goin on here?? Lmao!!! Born and raised in Alabama and this is an insulting representation of true southern food. Sweet corn bread? Fried pork chops? Sweet tea? Fried catfish with hot sauce, mustard and a touch of ketchup? Potato salad? FRIED okra? Oven baked Mac and cheese? Sweet potato pie? Yams? Collard and turnip greens? Butter beans and pig tails? Shrimp and grits? BBQ ribs? Red hots? Come on now!?! Ugh 😑 I’ve been southern since buck was a calf and this ain’t where it’s at! Lol 😂
What about gumbo??? lol
I get your point but you need to stop my mouth is watering! 😂
They want a southern butt whooping
Southern apple pie? Cornbread casserole? Salmon stew? Lima beans flavored with butter and green snap peas with bacon, collard greens with fat back? No hash and rice or pulled pork BBQ?? What?
Raised in South Carolina 😁 good soul food 😋
Y'all need to do another one of these!
I love how the title say's "Americans try Southern food" when the south is is not a foreign country lol
livelove laugh i thought the same 😂
It's really just that the US is so big. If you grow up in one region, traveling to another region can still come with some culture shock.
livelove laugh I was like are we not American?
I dunno, where *I* live, it sometimes feels like a foreign planet. And I don't mean that in a good way.
I thought the same and then I realized America is a lot of things.
>New England
>mid west
>south west
>west coast
>cascadia
>Texas
>Dixieland (includes Virginia)
>Hawaii
>Alaska
Americans aren’t just the exact same wherever you go. Being honest, it’s a shock in culture to go from like NYC to Virginia, going from towering buildings to country roads and rebel flags
All of us southerners make our food with *love*

what about the chicken fried steak?? Mashed potatoes and gravy, ranch style beans, tex-mex, cajun food, fried seafood?? The list goes on.
Erik Coreas OH PECAN PIE AS WELL
Erik Coreas don't make me hungry XD
OMG pecan pie is so GOOD
Erik Coreas I'm going to have to stand by the statement "chicken should not be used as an adjective." :P
Heather Tulip have you ever tried chicken fried steak?
I’m from New England and moved to the south for my husbands job. We’ve talked about someday moving back home but honestly I can’t imagine not having easy access to all of the amazing food down here! Haha it’s SO good!
Fun fact: in Mobile, AL, we throw moon pies during Mardi Gras and drop a moon pie for New Years 🎉
Yep southern people love moon pies and
Boiled peanuts but y'all missed out on a lot big ones. Like fried chicken, sausage gravy with biscuits, bacon, grits, fried fish, creamed corn, collard greens, corn bread, black eye peas, fried liver, baked macaroni with lots of cheese, pork rinds, cracklings, chitterlings, pickled pigs feet and more. Oh yeah and creole seasoning/seasoning salt is our go to seasoning. I don't know about other southern states but a lot of these things are staples in Alabama,Mississippi, and Louisiana.
Yep she hit it right on the head....who made the food choices in this video? Smh
They could do 2 or more sequels to this. Southern food is amazing.
Im sorry but I don't know why a read this with a hillbilly accent.
Im from Louisiana (HELL YEAH) and HELL YEAH to all of this
yep, I live there but I'm from the north orginally and I was just thinking the same, Kudos to you.
"It's like a hug from the Lord." THAT my friends is how you describe Southern food. Butter my biscuit anytime Buzzfeedvideo, Froyo from South Carolina
I live in Texas.
I lived in Charlotte, North Carolina and liver mush was the highlight of everyone's breakfast!
well the product he refer will saying that came from europe originally so not really southern food more mountain food ;-p
SC here too but umm I've never heard of pickled okra or liver mush. Which i mean I don't eat okra or liver soo.. Yea lol.
Can I join the high five?
There are some classic old school Buzzfeed people in this vid and I love it: Gabby and Alison, Zack Evans
I love boiled peanuts! When I visited my maw maw and paw paw in South Carolina, my aunt bought me some boiled peanuts, and they were delicious. Especially because they had salt and pepper on them too
why no hushpuppies
I was thinking that too haha
Yes! Hush puppies are the freaking best
Or fried catfish
+Emma Henderson I know right
Because they have them in the north too
We fry our okra friend.
Ikr it's a lot better
right
yup
Yes
Where are you from?
This video should’ve been titled Californians instead of Americans.
Californians have the most boring, basic cuisine. They don't know good food.
@@holzkatz1 Yeah, they don’t know what good food is at all.
It’s sad how far California has fallen
It used to be the gold state
"It's like a hug from the Lord" I love Curly!!! ❤️🤣
Where's the biscuits and gravy? Also, where did they get those biscuits? REAL southern biscuits are made from scratch, or with biscuick if you're being lazy about it.
Avery Baker yep
THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT OKRA IS LORD? OMG My Granny puts okra in everything beans, neckbones, sometimes greens like ugh omg y'all that's soooo saddd 😭😭😭
She'Myia Malone right my mom puts okra in everythingg lmao.
She'Myia Malone man I love neckbones alot of folks are grossed out by them. I think they never tried them tho.
That Guy Rightt I love em boiled with potatoes people just don't understand how good they are 😭😭😭😭
She'Myia Malone I'm in California and I had no idea what okra is lol
SweetIvory 1203 😭😭😭😭
Some times I forget that some of the food we have and make others are missing out on.. like cookout, and sweet tea, and cheerwine, for those of you who live around NC you know what I’m talking abt..
I’m from a small village in the UK and even I knew that there’d be some angry southerners in the comments section.
A few southern foods were omitted, but maybe they didn't know exactly how to prepare them: grits, white gravy, sausage gravy, chicken fried steak, fried okra (it's not slimy that way & good with 50/50 sriracha/ketchup), cornbread, greens, chitterlings (I can't go near them, but to many, it's a southern tradition) I'm in Memphis, TN, BTW.
I know! I was expecting Grits,Fried Okra! But sadly nope:(
Fried Okra is the best 😍😍😍
they should've had grits man
corn bread is best a few days after it's made, and eat it in a bowl with milk
Wait, what kind of greens? Collard greens?
Pickles, sweet tea, biscuits and gravy, low country boil, boiled peanuts (salted), black eyed peas and rice, ham, ribs on the grill.... Ahhhh the joys of living in South Georgia. ❤️
And you can't forget the occasional squirrel and deer, although I never really like squirrel.
Omg I live in Georgia. I Feel the same way. Im born in NY though but sayin "Yall" is stuck on me forever
Yesss!!! Georgians rule!!!!
+ItsSara ayyy i live in georgia too!
I love living in Georgia because I live in a small town and I love this food 😋🍗
I grew up in TX and have never heard of liver mush...never even seen it on a menu in OK or TX. I did grow up eating liver and onions and it was soooo good.
Bless their hearts
Horrible depiction of the south. It's more like SWEET tea, Grits, fried everything mainly meat & seafood. Lowcountry cuisine, soul food(collared greens, yams, fried chicken, macaroni) barbecue, buttery biscuits...really everything drowned in butter. 😋
Yep
J G Truth
J G yup 👏🏻👏🏻
EXACTLY! We need a part two with REAL SOUTHERN FOOD!!!
They forgot the crawfish! Louisiana is known for our crawfish!
how come biscuits & gravy wasn't in the video??
Because it's a common food in the North as well. They wanted to give them something different.
but it's a classic
I know right. gravy and biscuits is like an all-day Staple in the south it's breakfast lunch and dinner nothing like a freaking gravy and biscuit. go figure. I went to a Hardee's up north once when my dad was on business and they didn't know what gravy and biscuits was I was shocked because that's pretty much Hardee's staple.
Glo'dak Black Boudain actually originated from Canada up North.
Pets Place It's nasty!
Americans try southern food? Southerners are Americans you know that right?
@CAPTAIN CRUNCHy fr cuh
@CAPTAIN CRUNCHy not all liberals believe that

I'm from Louisiana so most of the southern food I eat is influenced by new Orleans food culture so maybe it's just me but jesus christ this is not how southern foods work. If it isnt made in the south then it isnt southern, its southern inspired. Cause otherwise it isnt the same.
My Gramma was a southern cook from Appalachia. She made the best meals like green beans, ham, and potatoes. Homemade root beer and wine as well as the hard stuff! I remember new years 1976 kinda!!! She made homemade saurkraut, butter, jams and jellys. She was amazing. God i miss her so much she taught me so much about southern depression era cooking. Love you Gram!
should be called Californians try southern food.
Some Of Them Are From Nyc and Chicago
They're from the midwest
Well there from New York so it should be New Yorker try southern food
This Southerner agrees.
Nah industrial people try Deep South southern food ( country style )
I've lived in Georgia all my life. What on earth is liver mush and pickled okra?? Fried okra is the best and fried livers are just heaven on earth. Also, where is their reaction for the sweet tea? There is such a thing as 'too northern sweet tea'. That's when the tea is no where sweet enough. Come on Buzzfeed. Consult more southerners about this and do it again.
I've never heard of it in my life and I've worked on a farm. I don't doubt it's good, but in my home town there isn't a pickled okra to be seen.
Now those pickled eggs that are pink in a big 'ol jar? Those little freaks are everywhere.
You don't know what pickled okra is?!!!
In TEXAS, hot (as in spicy) pickled okra is everywhere.... and awesome.
But then, Texas is NOT "the South." Texas is TEXAS!!
I'm from Tennessee (still there actually) I've heard of all of this stuff. I won't touch liver mush cause I don't like liver, but pickled okra's good. The pickled okra's more in Louisiana, but it's around. I've also had pickled green beans when I went there. The funniest thing is they didn't touch chitlins or pigs feet.
My favorite meal
-fried chicken
-biscuits and gravy
-fried okra
-Kraft mac n cheese
-Toast
- and lastly either Kool-aid or Sweet Tea
I love how that moon pie is tiny to us but they think it is so big. That just shows that we know how to eat
I'm from Georgia and some of this stuff I've never seen before.....I'm talking about you pickled okra.
Pickled okra usually hides somewhere on the salad bar. Southerners are more likely to be familiar with fried okra or okra in a soup (like gumbo) not pickled okra. Idk what they were thinking. But, you know a northerner prolly put this list together so, you know. Their sweet tea also didn't have any ice that I could see.
dwoollery must live in government housing. Everything was pickled before refrigeration. I’m from ga too and see picketed everything.
I LOVE pickled okra. I also love it fried and in gumbo. Okra is just delicious.
I used to eat it by the jar
It exists. Heard it was disgusting.
Ok so I'm Southern, raised in GA. First of all, I have never in my life heard of liver mush. What part of the South is that from? Secondly, real country ham is not sugary. It's incredibly salty and definitely an acquired taste. I don't think these people got a proper taste of the South. Why no biscuits and gravy? No fried green tomatoes?
Or grits! Can't believe they left that off.
Exactly I was like wtf is this lol
Or some barbecue!
Exactly, where's all the good stuff! I mean, why pickled okra, fried okra is where it's at.
***** yeah grits is like everything down where i live.
I used to eat boiled peanuts when I went to car races! They are the best. Their reactions are hilarious!😂
Peanuts are a bean. Bless yalls hearts. Y’all needed some hush puppies, North Carolina barbecue, collards, a seafood boil, some cornbread, a little homemade whiskey, and ice in the sweet tea. -from southeastern coastal NC. But I appreciate that they tried.
Yeah, okra is definitely fried in the south. Yall need to try some Cheerwine next, it'll change your life.
Cheerwine.. love that drink.
God yes
You know why our food is so awesome? Because it's too damn hot to do anything else.
Sincerely-Lifetime Mississippian
Yea it will give you straight up diabetes life changing shots in your gut every day.
Nothing in moderation is that bad for you, calm down
It hurts to watch this no one eats pickled okra. We eat fried okra
true
Little Panic Attacks ur user name is life
Um... what? I love fried okra, but if you only eat orka fried, you ain't southern.
True. The only person I have ever met that eats pickled okra is my dad. And he's the one that has tricked me into eating cow tongue.
I hate fried okra but I love okra boiled in purple-hull pink eye peas.
I love country ham biscuits! Especially when we cured the ham by ourselves and made the biscuits homemade
banana pudding. Brunswick stew. biscuits and gravy. fried chicken. collard greens with relish. Ambrosia. Carolina BBQ. hush puppies. grits. Corn bread ...THAT is Southern food, and it is amazing.
I'm from south Louisiana from a Cajun family..... can't say this video did our food justice😂
yesssss
+Audrey Fontenot Where's the barbecue at!
+Audrey Fontenot im from north Louisiana and there is plenty of great southern food that wasn't represented in this video at all
They didn't have red beans and rice or crawfish either
I'm from central Louisiana
Like seriously, wtf where did they get their food
They need boudin, gumbo, and crawfish!!!!
"What's okra?"
Oh my goodness, we're off to a bad start.
I live in North Carolina so all this is completely normal to me. I eat this stuff on a normal basis.
And yes, all southern food is prepared especially with lots of love.
Im from nc too and i still dont know half of this
its not a meal unless you got okra.
I also live in NC, I def. knew everything they showed lol but I never tried pickled okra (only fried) or the liver meat bc i hate liver! xp
where at in nc :0 lmao
I live in the Midwest, I eat Okra all the time and Californians have never heard of Okra?...Makes me think somethings going on over there.
Thanks a lot, now I've drooled all over my keyboard!
Sweet tea sometimes is needed but we also like cheer wine and lots of beer

theres chicken fried chicken in the north tho
the main thing I picture on 4th of July is fireworks, bbq, potato salad, and coca cola
I'm from NC, correct me if I wrong but that counts as me as a Southerner, right?
+Caley Ranson Nc as in New York? New York is in the top(ish) right(ish) corner of the US which is North not South
+CrazyAlpaca4 no, as in North Carolina
+CrazyAlpaca4 how do you get new york from nc
+Dante0986 i loled so hard
I'm a Southerner who loves all these foods! And liver mush is the real deal. I live in the home of liver mush! It is NOT the same as liver pudding. We even have a liver mush festival here!
True. My wife is from around Wilson, NC, and they eat "liver mush". My family is from Sumter, SC and we eat "liver puddin". The textures are very different, plus "puddin" usually has rice in it. Kinda like Louisiana boudin, but a lot more liver. I like taking Neeses liver mush and mixing it in a bowl of grits with some Texas Pete. Liver puddin on a honey bun is another great Southern classic.
"It feels like a bean." That's because it is a bean.
some of the "southerners" in the comments seem to be just as sheltered as these west coast kids lol. some of these you have to go in the deep country like cities to try liver mush (liver pudding) or pickled Okra. remember people just because its not popular in your town doesn't mean its not anywhere else there are more communities than just yours... and if you're from the city part of your Southern State you probably have never heard of these lol.
thank you
yes! someone else gets it! one of my pet peeves is when people try to speak for everyone based on what they grew up doing.
Destiny DelRio omgsh southern style crawfish is amazing! i now want some lol
was bout to make a similar comment
I'm from Argo, Alabama. My grandparents raised me and we grew up playing in a swamp behind our house, picking fresh veggies out of the garden and stringing beans, and riding our bikes down our long gravel driveway. Big Sunday dinners usually consisted of baked macaroni and cheese, baby Lima beans, collard greens, mashed potatoes or hashbrown casserole, Texas toast, and some sort of chicken. And once I came back to Tennessee to live with my parents, every time I visited my Grandma and Grandpa, my Precious Grandma would always cook at least on of everyone's favorite. My Grandpa always makes one pitcher of unsweet and one of super sweet tea. I was taught to be kind to others, always wash my hands, put love into my cooking, and we were huge on respect. I am proud of my good, honest, hospitable southern upbringing. But I sure have never heard of liver mush and will never eat pickled okra. ;)
oh bless your hearts. liver mush? nope. pickled okra? thats some fake crap you get at the grocery store. im talking going into the woods, making a tent, finding and big hog, shooting it, bringing it home, cooking it, and eating it with FRIED okra and gravy. im talking fresh hand made biscuits from scratch with lots of homemade gravy. desert? home made icecream and getting some rubarb from your garden and making a pie and putting home made whipped cream and home grown strawberries. That's southern. and thats just the food. y'all got it all wrong.
you're the definition of southern and I love you 😂
Amen! You hit it right on the nail sir. Straight up the only things actually southern they ate on here were the biscuits, ham, and gravy. The moonpie maybe. But I understand where you're coming from and you described hardcore southern food perfectly
A real southerner will pickle anything, also rhubarb, and okra don't come in at the same time, thus proving that you are fake crap. You probably have cream of wheat in your pantry you goddamn spy.
Logan Wolf
Both grandparents born on reservations then migrated (back?) to Atlanta, grandpa worked on the railroad. About as southern as it gets.
like I'm not even from the south and cringe at all this
I’ve lived in Georgia for my whole life and I have never heard of liver mush also where are the grits and fried chicken. Also southerners are Americans
As a southerner, I enjoyed this very much.
You forgot the catfish, Texas BBQ, cast iron cornbread, fried green tomatoes, and the biscuits and gravy.
No, NC BBQ. The most famous and BBQ is in NC
Chris Aden Ever heard of buddy's BBQ?
fatalrob0t The greens, fried chicken, real homemade mac and cheese(no Kraft), cornbread, bake beans, potato salad, and way more sweet tea
fatalrob0t hello I am a South Carolinian and to be fair and honest ( as I am a bit of a BBQ enthusiast) I like alot of BBQ I've tried even mustard based (although I do not recommend Maurice's BBQ in Columbia SC it is nasty) and the only prepackaged store bought cornbread I'll eat is Jiffy cornbread mix ( there may be an exception to that one day but not for the last 40 odd years) Homemade cornbread IS THE BEST (with some homemade pepper jelly and butter MMm mMM).
Oh my gosh! Yes! Yum!
My favorite food of all time cheese grits and sweet tea I live in South Georgia on a farm and we grow all the veggies they ate
Avery Green yassssssss!!! I freaking love cheese grits

Living in Mississippi:
"Would you like a beverage?"
"A coke, please."
"What kind?"
"Dr. Pepper."
Gamma TheOddGod: I live in Biloxi and I've heard a couple people refer soda as coke.
It's soda or "pop" in Oklahoma
We call it "soda" in Texas. Dr Pepper is the best. We went to California once and they didn't serve Dr Pepper anywhere. It was crazy! Lol
We've always said soft drink
I’m from Deep South MS and everything carbonated is a coke to us
