Now this is the true Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine experience I would like to have, and I see you fixed the name there from DR R to ARMS, I think the other characters will have their names in it like the OG Puyo Puyo game.
In Puyo Puyo, the code loads the required 4 letters on what the Stage # is. MBM just always made it load "DR R". Just reusing the same code from Puyo Puyo means each name can be different (which is what I did in the Mean Bean Machine DX Edition).
@@RadioTails my only issue with the “DX edition” is that it’s too meta. Like, Sonic Boom levels of meta; the type of meta that thinks it’s smart, but it just feels dumb.
To be honest, if you can hack the Arle sprites back into the cutscenes, it would be cool to see some custom Sonic sprites and dialogue. (Plus changing Carbunkle into Sonic. Recommend using E-122-Psi's sprites with permission of course.)
It's not impossible, but you would have to modify a lot of the code to function the same say as Puyo Puyo 1, plus tile space would be the issue (MBM uses more details sprites for the intro dialog). Even for that to happen, the disassembler would need improving to make that easier. I'm hoping next year to start working on it.
@@RadioTails It would be pretty cool if Mean Bean Machine had Sonic on it, while also replacing Carbunkle with Sonic (similar to Kirby's Avalanche doing it).
The background looks awesome! I do have some questions: - For the plane mapping, did you use any tools? (I asked MainMemory about adding it to their tool, but I got no response) - Did you figure out how the falling tiles worked when the beans fall? (I know where the data is) - Is this using the same CUBE sound engine, or a custom one?
Thanks! And to answer your questions: - The mappings had to be coded in by hand. A bit time consuming but we managed to get it too look pretty good. - Unfortunately not yet, I was trying to look into it, but I kept running into snags. - This is still using the CUBE Sound Driver
Having Sonic as a secret final boss with this song playing would've been perfect.
This is legitimately one of the neatest mods I’ve seen for MBM

The remix of Green Hill Zone sounds very SiIvagunner-esque.

I would love to hear the full song
Nice remix of Green Hill Zone! Will you be entering this hack in the hacking contest this year?
At the current stage, I don't think we'll be able to have a playable demo ready by SHC, but if things go well, maybe next year is a possibility
Man. If you only were to continue showing us your skills... more importantly, are you going to continue posting us your stuff? 🥺
Yeah, I'll continue to showcase any progress I make with this, along with other stuff whenever I get around to them
how did you make mean bean machine custom music?
It requires you to be able to learn how to code music into the hack via asm
