Fun fact: This is based on a WW2 German concept called the Ratte. Basically a ridiculously large tank with naval guns on top. The idea was scrapped for number of reasons. Large engine means it consumes more fuel and due to its size, it’ll be an easy target for enemy bombers.
Pretty sure the Ratte was only ever conceived as a way for the weapon design teams to stave off being handed Panzerfausts and sent to the rapidly collapsing Eastern Front.

It's usually referred to as a bracketing, when using the big guns to confirm the range. You have rangefinders on the ship, but they can't be exactly perfect. When you can bracket a ship, you then fire for effect. And a big mess happens. I am glad to learn the terms that other nations and languages learn. Kanteki. I will have to remember that.
I remember this thing looking hella vulnerable in the older DC/PS2 era games compared to something like the Big Tray or the Gallop. It never did any serious bombardment like in the video, it just mostly stood there and maybe occasionally got shot off if you’re positioned in just the right spot.
So fun and ridiculous concept of the tank the same as Soviet TG, German Ratte and land battleships from many sci-fi books for example, Bolo series. The tank from this movie has no forcefield, no anti-gravity engines, no high speed mode, no lasers, missles, drones to defend itself. One huge vulnerable target especially in gandam series cartoons where high-energy weapon and missles are common things.
This reminds me of the USN's unluckiest destroyer in WW2. Essentially, she shot down the Kamikaze fighter that was aiming for her. But the crew was oblivious about the danger of the explosive onboard that Zero as it was sinking. They sailed over the Zero and it exploded, sinking the destroyer. Luckily, almost (maybe) all crew members escaped.
I'll be honest and you all can call me stupid for saying this. But I still prefer MS Igloo over Requiem. One feels like a genuine passion project while the ladder doesn't. I remember far more scenes from Igloo while I can hardly remember anything about Requiem, other than the questionable ending.
WELL goef with gatling shield scenes were awesome , and yeah characters were a bit wokish especially that tatoo girl but then again , mercs have those tatoos , but overfocus on women doing all was what kept the series on backfoot , a balanced approach would have been much more welcome by the audience.

The series as a whole has always been woke and had always have women in high positions and taking apart in massive events. Go outside. Touch grass.

@solaireofastora5999 it's not federation design, the federation tends to a more angular design philosophy whereas zeon more tends towards a more rounded design. Remember Zeon also built the Gaw and jukon class subs. The zeon started building earthside forces after they made successful planetfall which makes sense, to build and transport equipment to earth from side 3 would be a logistical nightmare.

This doesn't show that but in the entire battle, The Dobday was basically a Artillery Platform that kept hindering the Assault located far behind enemy line. The Dobday has more firepower in terms of artillery than the Big Tray but it's Slow moving and is moreso used as artillery platforms compared to Big trays that can be used to move into the enemy while firing. 3 suicide Guntanks were sent it as a suicide units to close in on the enemy line and destroy the Dobday.
Pratically it was an Ogre-like tank, but an orbital strike from the orbit should suffice to deal with it . There was an old anime with a similar concept, Heavy Object, it was very ironic that these "invincible" weapons were eliminated by....humble infantrymen!😀
So, is there a reason we couldn't use all the pre-existing artillery that would have invalidated mobile suits without tacking them onto a giant Glorified toy concept first? Because this thing's existence seems to invalidate the idea that long range combat can't work due to esoteric particles making targeting impossible.
@@Xenostriker_jg4300 Ironically, I think the problem isn't even the Minovsky Particles. I just don't think there's enough space left on it for point defense. It does have space on it's back, but that space is apparently used either as a landing pad or to carry mobile suits. And even if it did mount point defense there, I don't think it would be able to cover the important areas, mainly the front arc.
So...if whatever powers those tank mechs is so incredibly powerful, why isn't there a weapon that uses that power source as a warhead? Gorgeous animation, utterly stupid story lines. One air plane? Really? A field full of giant targets and one airplane shows up? Spent the entire budget on mechs, no money left for aerospace?
In the story, the battle is divided into several battlefields. In the clip, it is the 7th battlefield, if I remember correctly. The main forces and most of the air force were sent to the first 3 battlefields. The reason why there were few planes in this battlefield is probably because they had already sent them to other battlefields. And the enemy's planes were not enough to fight, so they were only sent to the most important battlefields.

The big tray looks more like the Ratte than this. I feel like they based the zeon Landship more off of an imperial Japanese warship

基本、「挟叉」したら次弾は当たると思って間違いないので斉射に移行して問題ない。
海軍及び海戦要素がほぼ無い重力戦線に置いてダブデ級陸戦艇やビッグトレーらがある種、古来の洋上戦艦的な描かれ方をしている本作ならではの演出。
なお「観的弾(?)」なる砲撃は少なくとも自衛隊用語には無い(観測弾はある)ので、実在する用語を元にした造語と思われる。
元弓道部ですが、矢が的に的中するか見るポジション、行為を「看的」と呼びます。関係あるか分かりませんがご参考に
追記:調べてみたら射撃においても看的という用語があったので、やはり看的弾なんですかね

この主砲の口径が気になる
調べたけど出てこないですね。ソースは忘れましたが、サラミスの機関砲でも150ミリとかなので、460ミリ以上はあると思われます。

It's an artillery platform.
イグルーシリーズはこの時代にしてモデリングは素晴らしい。静止モデルを作ったスタッフは良い腕をしてる。
が、とにかく質量感が皆無で、プラモデルのように軽快に動き、飛び回り、外力を受けると簡単に移動する。
近くに落ちた砲弾の爆風の風圧で吹き飛ぶのは生身の人間だけだ。
キャタピラで走行するガンタンクのボディがコトコト細かく振動しすぎる。
めちゃくちゃトップヘビーな車両なのにスラローム走行が機敏過ぎる。
宇宙世紀ものをリアルな画像でやりたかったのなら、実際に動きを作ったスタッフはあまりにも知識と教養が少なすぎだった。
アニメでスパロボガンダムの世界観だったらこういうアラは目立たなかっただろうが。

That was a scout plane, watch the show before speaking dumbass. Not every piece of fiction has to be "muh realistic" to be enjoyable.
