Kobe would have a field day getting to the rim in todays game and I think would maybe take on a game like Luka’s which is kinda similar to Harden because Harden didn’t always play how he does he adapted to analytics and the era he was playing in. To answer the question I think they would be equal in different eras
Kobe would average 40+ easy if we're talking about 06 07 Kobe. Pace of the league today is 100.8. average team takes 33 threes. And Harden would play in a league where the pace was 90.5 with about 15 threes taking by teams. Harden averaged 25ppg with the pace around 93 in 13 and 14..with 6.2 attempts at 3 vs 14 attempts this season. at worst he would average 22. Realistically around 25-28.. and a good season.. over 30 but definitely under 35
Yeah..they instantly forgot how great kobe was..coming out of high school with such intensity in the court..being the youngest player ever played in all star game while being match up with mj and being the youngest player ever played in nba history..won the 1997 slam dunk competition at the age of 18..2nd to wilt in highest score in nba history which is 81 points..I mean you can't just ignore and disrespect kobe for that kind of debate..we all know that James Harden doesn't care about the championship like Kobe was..back in the day, the standard of greatness is how many championship can you get for your team..now, the individual stats is more important than the championship..this era is too soft, players don't know how to play defense that's why they can easily put a good stats..
no he didn't. according to Jordan fans the NBA got soft as soon as Jordan retired in 02. well 3 yrs later in 05 they started saying the league was soft and there was no hand checking and no defense. everything you hear about the lebron era being weak, Jordan fans were already saying it about the Kobe era.
Kobe’s best season average in points was 35.4 per game. During this time, teams were scoring an average of 97.0 points per game. Meaning that Kobe was scoring 36.49% of a teams average points per game. Take that 36.49% and multiply it by the average team points per game of 110.4 and you would get 40.28 points per game by Kobe in today’s game. Would ya look at that.
Kobe takes more shots than Harden to average less points. No matter the pace, a player can only take certain amount of shot to maintain efficiency. Kobe would have to take 29 shots per game in order to score what Harden score this year. The calculation of converting PPG by percent of team PPG is really hilarious.
Gedi Zhou Didn’t even mention harden, so you can get his balls out of your mouth. Since you brought him up, it’s easier to get more points on less shots when you average 12 free throws a game.
@@gedizhou4775 but the difference in the rules back then was really big the rules today made offense easier because easier offense means more highlights and that's better for the nba's popularity.
Remember Kobe went against defensive teams consistently in the 2000-2010 decade. Prime duncan with his Spurs. Prime Dwight Howard with Magic. Prime Dirk with Mavs. The first Super Team in the Celtics. Hard competition.

Kobe’s never been in an offense where he just holds the ball. No matter how much you wanna call him a ball hog. The rockets are literally just stand by and watch harden dribble. Reason they’ll never win a championship like that
Gr8 1 because it’s well known that Dantoni is sort of incompetent and he couldn’t get the team firing on all cylinders

A LITTLE Finesse he sucks as a coach no doubt. But to claim Kobe didn’t have free reign over an offense is false. Especially since they played for the same coach for a time.
@ Incorrect my friend when Kobe played for Dantoni he had the ball in his hands a lot because he was pretty much their point guard it was not to score. And after some time he got sick of him and did everything his way so the team would get in the playoff. People call Kobe a ball hog and what not but he likes to play in a offense he doesn't call for the ball tell the shot clock is down unlike most people who dribble out the clock then pass he is the opposite.
I’m a Jordan guy but I was upset to hear all the talking heads ranking him so low and questioning his skills. Shaw always makes it clear Kobe was the guy.
Reality Kobe is a better perimeter defender due to athlete ability Harden is a better low post defender because of built. And Harden has been plying elite defense last two season as well as when he was in OKC. BTW Kobe as any scored was not asked to guard the other team beast player all the time is a myth even Jordan was not asked to do it that what Pipen was for. You don't risk you best player fouling out even if they capable of being an elite defender.
neirad537 stop it, Kobe has defensive accolades, harden has none. Kobe has like 12 all defensive teams, most ever by any guard. Harden has none. Stop acting like Kobe and harden are even in the same ball park defensively. Of course it’s easy for harden to explode offensively when he plays zero defence.

You’re right. They’re easily influenced by the media. They can reason for themselves. How can anyone actually believe Harden is better than Kobe in any aspect? That’s absurd.
Shaq plays like a man and gets fouled coz no one can stop him, but harden is like a soft baby girl, a soft touch and he goes down, just to get a faul. So he ain't like a shaq
Guys imagine instead of Kobe and shaq it would be Kobe and Anthony Davis. Then Lebron and Anthony Davis would switch to Lebron and shaq now these players are going to be in their prime playing which each other.Anyways, which duo would be scarier and cause more havoc?
Kobe was a VERY poor percentage shooter - he DID NOT EVEN MEET LEAGUE AVERAGE for most of his years in the league. How does that make him a superior scorer?
Brice Fleckenstein I simplify it for u but if u want to actually realize why go watch Rusty Buckets Video, Kobe was more clutch, played D and had to get through D and 3 way scorer
@@bricefleckenstein9666 You know Harden has shot 41% from the field in the playoffs right? You know that he has never shot even 45 percent in the playoffs as the starter on his team right? I'm not even sure if you know what the league average was from the field when Kobe played basketball. Matter fact league average wouldn't even a stat you could compare Kobe with because if the average player in the league were to take the amount of shots Kobe took they wouldn't have shot even close to "league average"
Defense is so lack luster nowadays. Percentages should be up. You can't even be around the player while they're shooting. Most players now pretend to have contact (aka harden) so most people don't even want to guard him. So he's free to push off and shoot threes all day or get to the basket. This video is all facts and I'm glad it's up. Harden can shoot and has talent of course but I can't stand the throwing your arms into your defender and flopping all the time in today's game. Then call that a "talent for drawing fouls". At Kobe's prime in today's game and he gets to launch as many threes? Not even close.
Brice Fleckenstein your a dumb ass they don’t even play defense no more Kobe took less three then harden and still scored all those points with out going to the free throw line like harden
I just wanna know why they be disrespecting Kobe like that. biggest fan but and I damn sure remember him going off. Geeesh! I mean they had two or three guys on him at all times.
You think Bird and Jordan DIDN'T? Also keep in mind that Kobe played long after the "Flagrant Foul" rule grew some teeth - which was almost at the END of Bird's career and near the middle of Jordans. Kobe NEVER saw actual tough defense.
@@bricefleckenstein9666 Are you kidding ofcorse Kobe saw tough defense. There weren't many great shooters to space the floor and teams were allowed to play zone defense. Which was called illegal defense in Birds and Jordans era

Brice Fleckenstein stop making it seem like players gave flagrant fouls type fouls every single play. It was a rarity players got it that hard. Ticky tack fouls were still a thing back then and players didn’t hand check every single play so stop it. In every era there were bad defensive team and players. This video is EXTREMELY NECESSARY. Thank you. They've been disrespecting and ignoring Kobe's greatness for years now. And after todays ESPN rankings this is even more relevant

@@eavontae5995 I see your point but Harden either shoots from 3 which means 1 defender on him or he drives in and tries to get a foul by throwing himself into people. Still a great scorer but that's what I see him do a lot of.
EA Vontae and? Third all time in scoring, 5th in playoffs. He was a bit more efficient than harden. If he plays the years kobe did or atleast 2 or 3 years less he will pass kobe on misses. Needless to say, the man here commented of their defense. @@Youinnerstandme Yep. MJ was one of a kind, but Kobe forced himself to be like him but with a different legacy. Thats not something you can simply achieve. Lebron is LeBron, the greatest in this era, but his story and Kobe, MJ were totally different. If the GOAT was based on stats alone, we wouldn't even see jordan in top 5 or top 3. It would be Wilt, Bill Russell, and all those in early generation. Being the greatest doesn't necessarily imply best stats. Though i won't ranked Kobe at 2nd next to anyone, i would never considered LeBron to be greater than him.

Very well put. Nobody in today's game is near Kobe in scoring. He played left handed when he fractured a bone in his shooting hand, he plays the post like a forward/ center and let's not forget his 81 point game🤯 goat in my eyes🤷♂️
@Salvador Luna they have consistently (over the decades) INTENTIONALLY made rules in favor of offense. They want the offense to be main stage. Defense isn't as pleasing to the eye to these kronies.
@Salvador Luna about the defense, I agree. Today's players are better defenders because they had to learn how to defend without fouling. They have to time their blocks, read their opponents. Take a modern great defender and put him in the 80s, and he'd be going like... wow I can do this now too? That's easy. Take a defender from the 80s and put him in today's game and he'd play just be in constant foul trouble.
@@jamesdjl4359 if you haven't noticed, there have been more offensive fouls called this year's playoffs than any other year I can recall. They are calling it both ways, so it's not just for the benefit of offense.
@Salvador Luna Well you're wrong on many things there. You assume it was harder to score back then because defence was more effective. When in fact the avg team scored 109 pts per game in the 80s, and today the avg team scores 111pts. Nearly identical number of points despite today's game has literally over 10x as many 3's as they did in the 80s. avg team makes 12x3's per game today. They made ~1 per game in the 80s. In fact the field goal percent was HIGHER in the 80s. 48-49 FG%. While the highest FG% ever in the last 10 years is just 46.1%. Defense today is played by having quicker feet, reading plays ahead of time, getting around screens, switching, picking off passes, forcing turnovers, knowing when to double team, knowing when to help, knowing who you can give more room, knowing who you can't' give more room. It's not that great players of the past didn't do that. They did. But there were also lots of "great" defenders who just camped out in the paint and relied on their size, but would be completely unplayable in today's game.

Been waiting for this, thank you so much for the upload. Mainstream media has slandered Kobe’s name too much to gain viewership and ratings. It’s insanely disrespectful. Kobe getting inducted into the Hall this year should hopefully put some respect back on his name again, but the fact that this kind of discussion needs to be said shouldn’t have occurred in the first place.
🤦🏻♂️ You clearly didn’t even watch the video. Numbers without context don’t tell the whole picture, but keep hugging your analytics since basketball can be clearly simplified on a spreadsheet.
Since you like numbers so much, how about 9 straight games of 40+ points, 4 straight 50 pieces, outscoring the Finals-bound Mavs 62-61 at the end of 3 quarters. Just a few pointers that were actually made in the video if you watched and were able to process it. 😂
Kobe hit a whopping .... *28%* ... in clutch situations, per official NBA stats. He BRICKED those shots a lot more of the time than he HIT them - at least in part because he would FORCE the bad shot.
@@cocacolabean749 I don't argue that Kobe had work ethic and will to win. I just don't agree that he was nearly as GREAT a player as some folks try to make him out to be. SHOT SELECTION was poor at best, and as a result his shooting % was barely better than NBA average all but one SEASON of his career. Also, he was NOT a good 3 point shooter. .329 career was WORSE than Jordan (who was widely considered to be an OK 3 point shooter, NOT great at it), and NOT A GOOD PERCENTAGE by today's standards - and that would have DROPPED had he been lofting more of them like most players today. Kobe would probably be a starter today - but I DOUBT he'd be a "star" much less a "superstar" in today's 3-point happy NBA. The game was moving away from him during the second half of his career, and it's gotten WORSE since then.
Kenny Green If you put Kobe with Durant, and Westbrook in OKC man, they will win multiple championship guaranteed! Kobe is a two way player with a high iq.

Ok I am in no way trying to say that Harden is a better defender than Kobe there's no argument there. But saying Harden does nothing on the defensive end just tells me you haven't watched a Rockets game since 2017 when you could actually say that. In the past two seasons he has proven to be a great post defender, slowing down guys 5 inches taller than him, being the only player back on double team fast breaks and help carry the defensive load for clint and tyson. Being top five in steals last year and finishing on the 80% percentile when it comes to defense. You simply can't say this anymore, he has worked on his game and it is better

I think people take that as a slight against Jordan and wont deal with it. But IMO Jordan had more physical tools than Kobe, more athleticism overall. KoachKrab127 yeah it did start trending down around that time but when the hand checking rule went into effect it’s been a free fall every since lol
LOL So True!
Take A Walk With Me
That was a great analysis!

Kobe’s never been in an offense where he just holds the ball. No matter how much you wanna call him a ball hog. The rockets are literally just stand by and watch harden dribble. Reason they’ll never win a championship like that
Not to the level that harden does
Gr8 1 because it’s well known that Dantoni is sort of incompetent and he couldn’t get the team firing on all cylinders
It’s funny how Kobe was known as a ball hog but Harden isn’t

Kobe is a way better scorer than Harden. These "analysts" have short term memory
Kobe was a VERY poor percentage shooter - he DID NOT EVEN MEET LEAGUE AVERAGE for most of his years in the league.
How does that make him a superior scorer?
Brice Fleckenstein
I simplify it for u but if u want to actually realize why go watch Rusty Buckets Video, Kobe was more clutch, played D and had to get through D and 3 way scorer
Honestly it’s easy to end this debate. The defense that kobe had to go against was way different then today’s game. Nobody plays defense these days.
@Salvador Luna they have consistently (over the decades) INTENTIONALLY made rules in favor of offense. They want the offense to be main stage. Defense isn't as pleasing to the eye to these kronies.
Players are scared to play defense they dont want to get fouls
Thank you for keeping the memory of Kobe alive. Outside of Jordan nobody comes close. The most complete player in NBA history.....

People yell "Kobe!" because he was a jackass that would throw it up at the end of games from just about anywhere no matter how tightly he was guarded. His wild shots are where "Kobe!" came from. And he missed 75% of those shots.
@@merlball8520 the only jackass in here is you. Who roots for a guy who needs to have 2 All Stars in the weak G - league EAST to get a chip. Oh did I mention he still managed to get 2 more chips then your weak ass favorite player with less help in a harder conference and era.

Edwin Hernandez he had a stacked laker team, the winningest coach ever, and the most dominant player since wilt. He never won a finals mvp while Shaq was there. Why was that?

Harden played against the greatest team ever and almost kicked them out if it weren’t for CP3 injury

You didn’t mention that Kobe was a true 2way player harden does nothing on the defensive end
Kobe ave 40+ at his prime in today’s league
Harden wouldn’t ave 20 back when teams played better D
harden FLOPS every chance he gets so he wouldn’t be getting half the free throws
I have and I saw the frustration on Chris Paul’s face your right nothing is harsh but he can’t be compared to Kobe when it comes to defenders
Kobe >>> James "The flop God" Harden.
Agent_WestCoast A flop god lol
that clip with JJJ laughing was a hilarious add-in. Well played Jonny Arnett, well played.

That cut to JJ in the beginning 😭😭😭😂💯
About time someone respected Kobe
It shouldn't even be a debate, Kobe is obviously the better scorer. There have been games where Harden shoots more free throws than the entire opposing team...
It doesn’t matter. What matters is how much
xSkysplitter777 that’s a sign of a great scorer though.
Jeff Samuels flopper*
this popped into my recommendations after the tragedy. RIP kobe
They can hate all they want. I seen his career from rookie to his final year. Him and Jordan are in a class of their own. A different breed of animal.

Gr8 1 true Kobe does need a post presence traditionally and I think capelas mindset would mesh with Kobe
Gr8 1 nah bruh james had a cp3 who went down but a team full of shooters. Kobe dont lose to the same team multiple times ( other than the spurs and phoniex when he had no one) in the playoffs he wouldve got over the hump atleast once. Especially if he got help and i think capela would be fine
Facts💯
Imagine if Kobe could travel to get his shot off and flopped every time he was touched.
😂😂😂 right!
He'll avg 50 easily
I think people take that as a slight against Jordan and wont deal with it. But IMO Jordan had more physical tools than Kobe, more athleticism overall. It's close, but people forget about Kobe's footwork. And he didn't have to travel to make his moves like Harden does and Lebron has. (I enjoy lebron, but we know he has travelled quite a bit.)
@@notatrollll a young Jordan in his prime was not as athletic as Kobe. I never see or hear anyine aay Kobe was even one of the best in game dunkers but he was. People loved to hate Kobe that is why he was never really given his props while playing. Just looking at the 2 MVP selections of Nash and Dirk actually both of Nash's Mvp's should have gone to Kobe. The man carried the league and was the better player for the first decade in the 2000's
And conserved his energy by not playing defense. Kobe would easily get 42 a game.
MJ or Kobe would average 40 without even blinking in today's NBA.

Incredible. I had to like the video half way through before even getting to the end which I did. The content is so good, I had to watch it twice.
Harden cannot hang with Kobe for all the reasons you mentioned..and then some. Imagine if Kobe played in a system that gives him free range to shoot every damn time, averaging 40pts would be a joke.
Kobe played with the most dominant big man in the triangle system and in an era where defense actually mattered. Harden would not be putting up the inflated numbers you see today.
Between these two, there is no contest at all- Kobe is a winner and a 5 time champion too. Show your respect 👍🏼

When it comes to scoring, it's important to take the intensity of the postseason into account. Harden has yet to play his entire career and has only scored 40+ in eight playoff games so far. But when Kobe retired in 2016:
30-point playoff games
Michael Jordan = 109
Kobe Bryant = 88
LeBron James = 83
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar = 75
Jerry West = 74

Wow Jordan is the GOAT for sure
LMAO “but Kobe did this FIVE TIMES” ahaha
This video was much needed. Thank you for this
Kobe would average 37ppg this era and harden would average 24 in Kobe's era
Significant Nobody I came up with this exact conclusion! & 24ppg was great back then if you actually played defense because his assist numbers would come way down, coaches would probably deploy him like iverson on defense playing that “free safety” role terrorizing passing lanes
Ah actually James Harden would score more points in Kobe's heyday. Due to there being no flopping and no Harden rule, James would draw more fouls and a 48 minute game would take 3 hour's. He would score more due to the physicality which would make his terrible acting today look like a Denzel Washington academy award winning performance. Kobe is a overall better scorer but James is a higher scoring player because of his style
@umar b not a kobe fan....but the defense in this era is the worst it's ever been
umar b they literally can’t touch him....🤦🏽♂️ he took a beating majority of his career and put up legendary numbers imagine him having these rules the entire time

That would be like me hating Paul Pierce or Larry Bird. It would be preposterous. If you hated Smush Parker or Kwame Brown that would make sense. But Kobe? You can't be a Lakers fan.

Interestingly timed video. Rip kobe n Gigi
the Houston Hardens ~ 25 shots ~ 14 threes plus ~ 12 FTs , so 30+ points is pretty much a must , if not he should be on the bench
Don't forget he's playing 38 minutes a game and turning the ball over 5 times a game after becoming the all time leader in turnovers in a season, last season
Heroes get remembered, but legends never die. Rest easy, king. You will be missed, Kobe.
If Kobe grew up not learning the 3 point shot was a “bad shot” and shot like 14 threes per game with the new school way of thinking he might average 40
Except that, he was a pretty bad 3 point shooter and..for most of his career, shot 3's in an era when defenses would back off from a 3. OR, at the very least, not guard them as close as they do now.
Linus Upinfukus very true, but if he grew up in this era where they would’ve taken him out of the midrange and post and he mamba mentalitied tf out of only shooting threes. Odds are he would’ve gotten really good at threes
@@XxBLKMAMBAxX I agree with that. Same thing with Jordan. If the 3 point shot was emphasized the best in the world(like those 2) would have absolutely got better. The problem I have with this video is, there are so many assumptions made that are pro Kobe and anti-Harden.(and I don't like either of them, really). I think they are both great players and if someone wants to say Kobe is a much better scorer? Great, I never really thought or cared about who was a better scorer and to me, Harden is a playoff choker until proven otherwise. I just think the rationale this guy uses is pretty idiotic. I was hoping the video would make a good argument. But, things like "Kobe scored more in a game" Or "had more 40 point games in a row"? That doesn't mean anything.
Linus Upinfukus if Jordan and Kobe drilled stepback threes instead of post fades, 100% they would’ve been the the 1 and 2 best players do those moves as well
But that’s what the newer generations get to take advantage of
In 20 years we’ll prob have another young player who takes everything from jordan + kobe + harden + kawhi + kd and make another style we’ve never seen before
@@XxBLKMAMBAxX I agree with that too. You should have made the video. I have never been a huge Kobe fan, I actually played against him*
*trasnslation= I went to Conestoga HS, he went to Lower Merion, we are the same age and I sat on the bench as he destroyed us.
I wanted to see this video for some good reasons as to why Kobe is a better scorer. You(not you specifically, far from it. I mean people in general) are an idiot if you don't have an open mind and are willing to change your opinion on things. I wanted this video to explain why Kobe is even better than I thought. But, his rationale and reasoning made very little sense to me.
This is why I'm subscribed.
