I don’t know what I would do without watching your videos! YOU ARE THE MAN! I bought an Axe Fx iii just because of you! Plus you share the wealth with us with a SUPER BIG THANK YOU Leon!
It's a wonderful thing right? What effects are you going to try in the feedback loop?
@@LeonTodd Well I’ve seen you use different delays pedals back into it? And just wondered if you ever use a preamp directly into it and use IRs and the EFXs in the Axe Fx? My biggest question is I also own a Kemper I was going to buy a good high end splitter just wondered about latency and phase issue between the two different processors? this is for live use mainly. I’m sure it can be done. But maybe this part of my question you may not be able to help me with. It seems like you can cover almost anything and do anything with the axe fx. I just thought it might be a cool video for you to explain how you go about routing different things into your ax fx. ✌🏻
The power of the Axe FX is amazing. It's like having your own "digital circuit board" with a GUI that's plug N play. Great stuff! 👍
Total sandbox!
The best channel for Axe FX for tutorials! Definitely inspiring. Thanks Leon
My pleasure!
DUDE! I've been trying to figure out how to do this ever since I got this thing. I got the effect I wanted more or less but this is such a simpler way of accomplishing it... Brilliant! And thank you again!
My pleasure!
THIS IS GENIUS! Thanks for the tips Leon! 😁👍🏼🤘🏼
Get amongst it!
Very creative use the unit. Thanks for expanding our minds. Puts all the pedal chasing into perspective yet again.
Leon, I just set this up with the USA Mid, sounds killer, I would have not known where to start in a million years, you rock!! Thankyou for you, keep ripping
It's a wild ride hey!!!
This is so cool!! I’ve been waitlisted for the AXE FX III since September 25th and I’ve been watching your vids and they are making me soooo excited to finally get it! Cheers!
Also you’re a fantastic player, it’s been inspiring me to get better at guitar.
Wow... Nice material to study and experiment 😀
Brilliant, LT! Thanks for the inspiration as always. Hope everything's groovy over in the west.
Thanks man! Lovely to see that Vic is going a bit better - hope all is well down in Mornington :)
what a cool idea, thanks for all your videos Leon!
This is some next level shit.
Thank youuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve been trying to figure this out for months! And I could never figure it out and gave up never thought of putting a send and return on the delay wow I am so stupid thank you, thank you, thank you! You truly taught me everything I know how to do on the axe fx and this one is super appreciated once again thank you man !! I would actually donate money to you if I could on UA-cam for this one video you are amazing bro thanks
My pleasure! now go fire up some wild delays :p
Mind blown
🌋
Great video! Very helpful even if you don’t have an Axe Fx. These tips can be used with ZOIA or Digit, too!
Big time! Anything with these kind of modular setups allows for some WILD possibilities.
Genius!
8:47 Instant stank face mode!
I've had an Axe III for more than a year, I genuinely had no idea this was possible. My Strymon Volante may end up being sold. Thanks, Leon.
Tried the Quad Tape delay type in the Multidelay? Volante vibes all day!
@@LeonTodd I have, and it sounds great, but there is something the Volante does on the Echorec setting that I have been unable to replicate so far. There is a character to the repeats that they have totally nailed. I reckon I might now be able to get there. I can't believe I didn't know about this feature. It is amazing.
I just bought a Dig and it sounds so good straight out of the box. Strymon make incredible stuff, in so glad to be alive in an area wren Strymon, Fractal and so many others are making the best gear ever.
@@LeonTodd ditto, we are very lucky. Strymon make amazing stuff. Can't wait to see how the Axe III develops further.
Yeah I got a volante too I’ve been trying forever to make the axe sound like it and you can’t do it lol I’m a delay whore I have a volante, time line, and chase bliss tonal recall red knob mod lol that’s why I am so excited for this video thanks Leon!
Now I know why am up at 6am!
:D
Leon, please take this as a compliment, you're a massive nerd!
Great ideas Leon, you are a genius and a legend.
Awesome stuff Leon...as always!
Too kind mate! Hope you're doing well :)
If you really want to get crazy, put a 2nd amp block with some high gain and multi band compressor in the feedback loop just on the delays.
Then have a cleanish amp for the main amp tone.
Man, that is fantastic.
freaking genius!
Man this is awesome! Thank you so much for this! :)
Leon, why do you choose to run the delay in a parallel path rather than just putting it in series with the output? Isn’t it the same if you were to run the block in series with the mix at 50%?
Hey Leon, can you make a vid on how to setup the axe-fx3 from box, wiring, initial software setup to downloading your mods from the axe change
Great video Leon!
Glad you enjoyed it! i've been having so much fun with this :)
I really hope that you receive some money from Fractal. You demo/tutorial are really wonderful. I don't have an axefx but theses videos make me want to have one !!!!
Did you sleep or 24/7 axe fx3?
Jesus fucking Christ, Leon. Unreal. My name just came up on the list yesterday, hopefully should have a Mark II in hand next week. Looking forward to diving into your suggestions.
Any chance you might explore some Holdsworth type tones in the future?
Oh man brace yourself! So many great tones headed your way.
I did a video emulating the Holdsworth UD settings as well as the intellifex 8 voice chorus. It's all in there and so much more.
@@LeonTodd Awesome! Definitely gonna dive into those ASAP. Thanks man!
Hi Leon: Another great video. Mine's an Axe FX II XL+ and I simply can't justify upgrading to the III. Have you seen Robert Baker's video on the ART SGX-2000 yet? He has challenged you to getting hold of one and breaking it down for UA-cam to see. If you decide to take up the challenge, I have a pristine, 93 ART SGX-2000 Express complete with X-15 Ultrafoot that could be for sale. It would be great to know it goes to a good home. Think about it!
Just watched it. Flick me an email and let's see if we can work something out
@@LeonTodd Done: check your email!
@LeonTodd. Once again........Great way to wake up - My favorite coffee and guitar and gear stuff!!! Question......
What is that your are playing @12:20 on the timer bar?
Little Ragdoll ditty called Heaven Above!
@@LeonTodd Gotcha. VERY NICE!!! "D"
wow, the nth degree from Fractal. Are the expanders like a noise gate or more like a decompressor?
That's a very good question regarding the gates - the default input gate is a "downward expander" but it's operation is going to be a little different to the straight up expander in the comp block.
That’s some deep research in to the Roland service manual 😂 It started getting really interesting once the diffusion was added. So in this experiment, were all the effects added post the speaker cab? At “the console”, so to speak? Thanks, take care :)
Correct, at the console! Agree about the diffusion, starts going in the Lex PCM direction when used sparingly
You need a pay raise, we’re not paying you enough. I see a lot of exploding heads around here, glad I’m not the only one.
It's all part of my plan to convince you to get one of these :p
Most of this is way beyond me and my mesa strategy 500 and ADAMP1.
That rig can level a medium size office block though :p
7:07 - Hey,! RTFM!
8:25 - that PEQ is set rather well here for mimicing natural in-air sound degradation. The echoes sound distant, like they ought....
12:27 - this effect with a controller on mix to fade out of or into the wash would make a great intro or outro....
RTFM does the trick!
Hey bro. Off the subject, but wanted your latest video to commet on. I need your help bad. I have a 6505+ and a mesa 4x12 recto cab. Absolutely love the tone. Its what i love. Problem is, im getting older and weaker and its just too heavy to move around anymore. I was thinking 2x12 cab and maybe a slo 30 or the hr25. Whats the difference? And whats you advice. Love 80s tone with a touch of pantera-ish low end palm mutes. Lots if gain, Scooped mids. Basically same tone but less weight and watts. I use a sd1 od as well to tighten things up. Please help brother🤘🏻🤘🏻👍🏻
amazing m8. would like to here what you could do with the Line 6 Helix
Wow, now I want one
It's UNREAL hey
Why do =es everyone put the delay after the cab in the signal chain? Wouldn't it be more "realistic" to put the delay after the amp but before the cab? (I know nothing... researching the Axe Fx III as a replacement to my Tube heads so go easy on me)
It means you can have stereo delays without having to use 2 amps/2 cabs. This is the way delay would be used in a mixing scenario
Regarding the feedback return - with the out cable of the flanger/peq/chorus going back into the delay, doesn't that effectively wash the incoming signal after the 1st repeat? I would've thought the mod fx out cable would have been disconnected from the delay and conected back to the main signal line to hkeep the intial delay unprocessed. I'm still learning signal flow in this beast.. Thanks for all you bring to the table for us! I have a bookmark folder full of your Axe Fx iii teaching I spend time with pretty much every day.
You can also do it that way if you like! So much control in there :)
Fantastic. Man, the music you are playing at 11:44 and at the end of the video is something so beautiful... Thanks!
Just a little ambient noodle. I did a lesson on it on the channel a while ago
Great! The reverb effect has some of the "bloom" you hear in 80's and 90's units like the MidiVerb and QuadraVerb. Any tips on how to enhance that bloom?
Play with the diffusion time and mix along with the ducking parameter
Great stuff Leon. It appears from the path that the feedback return is feeding the delay block again creating another delay layer? Kind of glossed over that part a little too quick for me.
Since i set the delay block feedback to 0, the send/return blocks (and everything in line with them) now acts as the delay feedback circuit and controls the number of repeats.
I like the way your mind works, inspiring stuff ...
Glad to hear that!
Thoughts on Axe FX iii vs the actual tube amps? Does it get 99% of the way there? IE: hard to tell the difference? On youtube they sound essentially the same, but I'd love to hear your in the room thoughts?
Was thinking Axe FX -> Fryette PS2 (used as a tube power amp) -> 4x12 Guitar cab . I had a Kemper at one point but it felt Sterile running through frfr powered monitors.
I actually prefer FRFR these days, but the Axe 6 through a matrix gt800 and a 4x12 is insanely fun. One of my students runs a Fryette with a Mesa 4x12 and they love that setup.
i dont have an Axe Fx III but you gave me inspiration thank you
This is like head exploding cool! Thank you so much for making these videos Leon!
HOW DO YOU COME UP WITH THIS STUFF?! 🤯
Another informative and inspiring video Leon. It seems like somewhere in this method is the solution to a 100% replica of a Carbon Copy delay in the Axe. I got so close, but I couldn't get the first repeat to be as washed out as the pedal. Hint for a future video?
I used to own a a CC and I loved that thing, such a tasty sounding delay.
The AF3 is absolute astonishing but my knowledge of the unit lays around 5%. Therefore vids like these are eyeopeners and fuel for more experimenting and having fun with the device. Thnx Leon!
I learn something new on it every week, so much room for inspiration
Great video!
The main reason for using compressor and expander is the non-linear response of BBD chip or vintage AD/DA. So it should be the most noticeable effect if you put some kind of overdrive or bitcrusher between them.
Now we're talking!
That was awesome, thank you for sharing. I’m new to the fractal world, still learning how to use this unit, silly question, is there a spot where you can get this preset?
Yes, visit the Axechange website!
