    Hi my loves! This video is for those of you out there who have hooded eyes! I know first hand how awkward they are to work with! In this video i'll show you how to do makeup on your hooded eyes, and how NOT to do makeup on your hooded eyes! I hope this video will show you a few good makeup techniques to bring out the best of your hooded eyes, and make them look a little less... hooded. On my right eye i've shown what not to do with hooded lids, and on my left eye (which is actually my most hooded eye) i've shown you what to do with hooded lids! Like i said numerous times in the video, there are varying degrees of hooded lids, however these tips and tricks will work for every hooded lid - no matter how slight, or how severe.

      Oh preach!!! I have seen comments on really long vids that complain about the rambling and in more than one instance the UA-camr responds "you realize there is an option to skip forward." But we aren't psychic, we don't know what you are going to say or which parts to skip! So frustrating. I also appreciate Stephanie's brevity and conciseness. More info, less chatting.

    Thank you so much for your videos. I'm (nearly) 25 and gave up on makeup for years as my skin is genetically not very good and I'd always end up just feeling like a failure, leading to further depression/anxiety. I haven't tried anything just yet but you make very reasonable points as to why certain techniques don't work - many of them I used to do, so I already feel motivated to try once again.
    I honestly thought hooded eyes were just in my family. Goes to show how powerful makeup is - many people must just be concealing it like you have shown. I don't feel as alone in that anymore.
    Finally I have a rather vital question. A big part of why I quit makeup was because, even in my teens i.e. my prime years, my eye skin pulled so easily. I see makeup tutorials and the eyeliner will just glide on the lids effortlessly. If I try that, no matter what the eyeliner, my lid skin pulls leading to a black mess instead of that clean line. It's severely depressing when you're in your best years and this happens. I'd very much appreciate any advice you might have for this.

      Hi! I have hooded eyes also and also have felt alone. Sorry you struggle with anxiety/depression, and if there's any way I can help, please let me know! I've also had an issue with those. But anyway, I learned a tip for applying eyeliner somewhere along the way. When you apply the eyeliner, try taking your other hand and stretching your skin out to the side a bit, to make your eyelid more smooth and easier to apply the eyeliner on. It's a tip I never thought of myself, but it seems to help.

  • @lizzieting
    @lizzieting 9 років тому +85

    There's so much restrictions omg Dx I can respect that you know what you're talking about but honestly everyone, do what looks best for you. If both matte and shimmery eyeshadows look good on your hooded eyelid then do it. If a thick liner makes you happy then do it. Don't feel that just because you have hooded eyes doesn't mean you should feel restricted to using certain kinds of makeup in a certain kind of way.

      Lickety split I have either extremely hooded eyelids or monolids there's no in between for me. I use lots of shimmer and pigments on a daily basis. Just because they don't look good on her doesn't mean you can't make it look good on you.

      There is no right and wrong way. She's just trying to show how to make the mobile lid look bigger with the matte shadows. It makes sense to me. There is no correct way but she subscribes to the idea that having as much of a mobile lid showing is beautiful. In kpop makeup girls with monolids don't even bother with all the shading of crease and whatnot but just does a gradient eyeshadow instead. I avoid shimmers to because I have to take a lot longer to make it look good.

    I stopped wearing makeup altogether about fifteen years ago because I never liked the way it came out because of my hooded eyes. I saw this video, and my son just gave me the Kat Von D Shade and Light pallette because his girlfriend doesn't like it. I gave it a shot, practiced a few times, and OMG, you are a miracle worker!!! I seriously cannot thank you enough!! ❤ xoxo

    • @m8272m
      @m8272m 8 років тому

      Since you mentioned stopping makeup, plus the fifteen years passing, I just thought I'd ask if you use a primer?
      I had no interest in eyeshadow whatsoever, in part, due to my hooded lids. The muted colors, combined with creasing and poor lasting ability meant I often went mono-lid (which happens to look excellent on certain hooded eye shapes IMO). Eyeshadow primer changed everyything for me. Just thought I'd mention it in case, as eyeshadow primer being available everywhere is relatively new. That, and good brushes. The _insert hyperbole_ soft synthetic brushes they make now make eyeshadow much more enjoyable for me, and made my makeup look

    Thank you soo much for this. I've been looking for ages for a UA-cam guru who has hooded eyes and this comparison was so useful. I've seen a few youtubers without hooded eyes try to demonstrate what to do and it just doesn't help because.. yep, they don't have hooded eyes. Mine are small and hooded and it's so frustrating the years I spent following tutorials of girls without hooded eyes (never knew hooded eyes were a thing until about 2 years ago!) Only to open my eyes and not be able to see any shadow, or I would make my eyes look so small.. especially in my 'emo' goth phase with all the eyeliner lol. Oh dear. Do you have any eyebrow tips for hooded eyes please? Xx

    • @stephanielange
      @stephanielange  9 років тому +4

      Fer0cityInDesire I had the emo phase too! lol My tip for brows would be to keep them nice and full, keep the arch neat. Do you have full brows or are they like mine, sparse and over plucked? lol xo

    • @Fer0cityInDesire
      @Fer0cityInDesire 9 років тому +7

      Stephanie Lange thanks so much for your reply! I have very sparse brows,the hairs are kind of thin and long and it's so annoying because there are so few hairs I can't be too choosy lol, the hairs always try and go out of place at the arch and both arches are so different! One is rounded the other quite tilted lol, I'm not even sure they're related let alone sisters :p your brows look great. I will try and do them like yours in the future using your tutorial and see how they look :) I just bought the Anastasia brow wiz but unfortunately I got brunette and it is way too dark for me, I have medium light brown hair with a slight chestnut red hue, but I didn't particularly want my eyebrows red too! Will have to try a different shade I reckon. xx

    • @illusionsfan1
      @illusionsfan1 9 років тому +1

      Fer0cityInDesire One is rounded the other quite tilted lol, I'm not even sure they're related let alone sisters :p your brows look great.
      ^ This made me laugh my eyebrows are EXACTLY THE SAME IT'S INFURIATING! Maybe we should trade an eyebrow? lol. Also my right eye tends to be perfect with lashes and stuff but I think the eyebrow is a little long and perhaps too angular yet my left eye refuses to look good in makeup but the eyebrow is a perfect little kind of smooth flowing cutie pie.

    • @palexisboyle
      @palexisboyle 9 років тому +1

      Fer0cityInDesire I have the exact same issue with my brows. You may have to mix two pencils to achieve a fuller but realistic look. I like the MAC Eyebrows pencil in Spiked for the fullest part of my brow, up to right beyond the arch, and I use a darker pencil (Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Brow Pencil in Medium Brown) to shade randomly throughout the brow for dimension and the tail. You may want to try the same technique MAC Eyebrows in Strut and Lingering.

    What makes this video so well done and informative is that you genuinely have hooded eyes and you show at the same time, side by side, what to do and what not to do. When MUA's just demonstrate on themselves or models over and over to demonstrate technique but they don't have this problem, it's much harder to "get" the point. Thank you!

    I looked all over the internet, and there is no one whose eyes relate to mine. I am part Irish, Scottish, Korean, and Native American, which makes for very unique facial features. I have severely hooded eyelids that are kind of swollen, and on the out corners of my eyes, I kind of have some sort of natural shading that made a lot of people ask me or my parents if I wear eye make up when I was not old enough to. It's like this valley, kind of. My upper lid keeps pushing down my lashes, which wouldn't be a problem if my lashes were long enough to curve over it, but they aren't. Also, if I cry before bed I wake up with extremely swollen eyes that have a new crease which is higher up and looks weird. Later, it gets better but has another crease branching out of the first one. Sounds crazy? Yes it is. MAKEUP TUTORIALS NEVER WORK OUT WITH ME BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS HAVE A DIFFERENT EYE SHAPE.

      I think ive got the same eye, you can try to wing the outer corner of your eye, with a fine almost horizontal line. Do not line your upper lashline, else it will smudge on to your hood and it will be a mess. This lifts my eye alot. Also, you can apply white shimmery eyeshadow on your inner corners. I always try to avoid heavy eye makeup as much as possible. Now, my eyelashes are rather long but i always use an enlongating brown mascara because else I'd look like a hamster. Maybe this could help you?

    One of my favourite makeup artists uses shimmery eye shadow on hooded eyes, but only on the inner parts of the mobile lids if they're visible with the eyes open (and not on the hood itself, that's the most important part). That's a way to get a little shimmer onto your eyes without it looking strange. That's what I do now if I want to use something with a little shimmer in it. Good job with this tutorial. :)

    It's taken me about 5 years to perfect a look for my hooded eyes and it's pretty much exactly what you've just done on the "do" side, right down to the choice of eyeshadow colours! If I'd found this video a few years back it would've saved me soo much time and effort because it was basically just trial and error till I found something that looks good. I always tried to copy other UA-camrs but because my eye shape is so different from theirs it never quite worked. And don't get me started on winged liner! When putting on your eyeshadow, spray a tiny bit of Mac fix plus on your brush before putting the shadow on, then put shadow on, then put more shadow on the brush and spray that with Mac fix plus and apply. It works for me.

      +acacm12 I tried several primers and none was quite satisfying. Now I use a tiny bit of milk of magnesia as a primer and it works really good.

    Ha! I did it! I finally did it! I was simultaneously following all your steps as I watched the video and I finally managed to get my eyeshadow look decent and nice! After watching so many videos and failing at all those past attempts mainly because they didn't give out this advice, I was ending up with such a cringy result in my eyeshadow, basically it would look like your right eye, the incorrect one. All this time I was thinking it was my fault for never learning how to apply makeup and that by now it was hopeless but it was all that I was following the wrong advice and doing the wrong steps. But now, I've finally got it. This is seriously the best eyeshadow tutorial in all of youtube! Thank you so much!

    I have hooded eyes but I don't have a defined socket. Also, my eyes and eyebrows are pretty close together so if i add eye shadow above my crease line, it goes nearly up to my brows. I don't have a defined brow bone as well. I am half asian half white btw. Lol I have all the bad parts of being white and all the bad parts of being asian

      Hi! Not asian, but I have the same small and hooded eyes issue you seem to be frustrated by. Here is what I've learned: 1) Apply with your fingers. Just because your browbone is hidden doesn't mean it isnt there. Also, for other turtorials, anytime they say "apply to crease", think browbone instead. 2) Well groomed eyebrowa make all the difference. Mine were overgrown for years and highlighting was near impossible. 3) Embrace the cat eye shadow (not liner!) This allowa you to have fun blending multiple colors out when you can't go up, and looks especially good on smaller, almond shaped eyes. 4) Curl your lashes. Every time.
