@@PRubin-rh4sr the fact that he was extremely disgusted and dejected with how they wrote Varys in the later seasons showed how committed he was to the character. D&D really let A LOT of people down.
One other point about his sitting there is that he's putting himself in opposition to both Tywin and Cersei. That was the furthermost place from Tywin at the table, and Tyrion sits there right after Cersei makes a point of sitting just beside their dad. There is a little shot that conveys this really well (1:44): we see Tyrion as the closest character to the camera and on the right side of the screen, in double opposition with Tywin (the furthermost character from the camera) and Cersei (the left-most character on the screen), with a lot of literal distance between them. I really love this scene.
Cersei's desire to break the rules (wanting to rule as a man) yet doing nothing but huff and mock people once she has done so is very telling of her character. Tyrion only wants to be seen as an equal, Varys 'keeps on rowing' while Littlefinger tries to be the second biggest fish, and Pycelle just takes whatevers left. Wonderful writing
IMHO you overcomplicate. It was a game of chairs beside Tywin. LF rushed to the nearest, other 2 sat in order. So Cersei naturally seeing herself as the second in charge without any thoughts of "why not?" grabed the closest to destination chair and put it closer to Tywin; if both closest sides were taken she'd probably took one anyway. This is one of my favorite scenes of whole show. The first minute and a half with the chairs is an entire wordless story in itself that perfectly showcases the personalities of all the characters involved: Tywin the power and authority around which everyone moves. Littlefinger cuts everyone off to get to the front. Pycelle is pretending to be old and slow. Cersei is so petty as to completely rearrange to chairs to what suits her best. Tyrion is cleverly finds a way to get a good spot even though it appears as though there isnt one. Its a shame that fun and nuanced moments like this were sacrificed in leu of whatever the hell season 8 was. It was these scenes that got me to fall in love with the show.

So I think he is more upset with the position because in feudalistic context a treasurer was a VERY unpopular position. This is a martial society where advancement is through heroic deeds. Finances were seen as beneath nobility. It’s a position that rarely has much social mobility. It’s the reason Baelish when promoted was lord of harrenhal and destroyed castle that is impossible to garrison
There's no dialogue from any till Tyrion starts about a minute & three quarters in, but we can see how they're all cuddling up to Tywin with Baelish & Varys hurrying for the nearest seats to him. Then Cersei drags her seat next to her father; then Tyrion pulls his seat to the opposite head of the table. These kind of scenes, with no dialogue but you can still tell what is going on by the character's actions, are a rarity.
Varys wasn't hurrying for the nearest seat, he wants to "keep on paddling while the big fish eat the little fish". He's in the middle because it's a good "hiding" position and because Pycelle will always be last due to his weak old man act.
Littlefingers acting is just soo good, his smiling, him throwing a gag a Varys and revealing his power. He gets more arrogant as it goes on, and satisfied. Varys said the most dangerous man in Westeros is Littlefings and for good reason, he fucking brilliant and effective.
One thing I like about this scene is that despite his hatred for Tyrion Tywin assigns him a position that he is absolutely perfect for. He has the temperament mind and strength to be Master of coin and he is smart enough to know how to manage it even if he has no experience.
I LOVE Conleth Hill lmao his wtf face when Cersei grabs the chair, then the little smirk when he sees what she was doing, THEN TYRION ONE UPPING HER, priceless lmao
It's been years since I've first watched this scene and I still keep coming back to rewatch it every now and then. Can't say that for any scene of seasons 7 and 8.
I love how this is basically one big classroom Tywin: The teacher Littlefinger: Teacher’s pet Varys: The smart kid Cersei: The favorite student Pycell: Senior who doesn’t care anymore Tyrion: Class Clown
Tyrion made the most noise and made the biggest scene and still ended up with more power at the table because he himself decided he should be there. If Tyrion hadn't killed Tywin's wife in birth, he would have loved him far more than either of the twins the depths of this series is amazing
It wudnt have been as bad for sure if the wife survived ...but in these times a man like tywin wud always be disappointed to have a dwarf as a son ..especially when the other son is a handsome elite swordsmen
I think the most ironic part of this is if Tyrion had been the monster everyone believed him to be ue could have easily stolen the entire kingdoms wealth and easily betrayed them all. The fact that he actually does care about the kingdom and his family really was always his biggest weakness
Don't forget the other "power move" right after that little tiny scoot. Tyrion is the first one to speak, breaking the long silence. In formal meetings like this, the first to speak is often trying to take control of the meeting, set the agenda, be seen as a power player... none of the others dared to break Tywin's silence, but Tyrion does his little scoot of the chair and then breaks the silence becoming the first speaker... power move piled up on power move. Pretty much saying to Tywin "I have so little respect for you that I'm going to start your meeting for you."
@@DrTopologist yeah GoT used to be awesome i miss tyrion what ever happened to him he disappeared after Jaime helped him escape death row only to be replaced by some bearded look alike strange

This might be the most quality acting scene among the whole GoT episodes. Still laughing out loud when Tywin takes a glance at Tyrion after Cersei takes her seat wondering how Tyrion will act. Top class acting, utterly excellent! Grand Maester's surprised look at the very beginning is of another elite acting. Lord Baelish's eye rolling when Cersei carries the chair made me get into laughing crisis. Varys's look at Tyrion when Baelish talks about the relationship with Lysa Arryn just hit the spot. A perfectly shot scene in all senses. Even Cersei could manage to be funny with her dull temperament. This is the only scene in which she looked pretty to me. Miss the old days guys, the days when GoT was a legend. It then turned out to be shit.
I first watched this when I was 15. im now 22 and can actually understand not just the dialogue but the reasons of the chair dragging/ power dynamic going on. brilliant
Littlefinger trying to show boldness, varys just wanting to be done, the old guy just nervous and trying to not do anything, cercei telling little finger to go duck himself and Tyrion mocking them all. Absolutely amazing
I wonder if we'll ever be able to enjoy a comment section just praising the good acting, without immediately ranting about season 8. Season 8 happened, it's part of the story and there's nothing you can do about it. Shitting on the entire show will not help.
Did Tyrion move his chair to: - Piss everyone off? - Ridicule Cersei's behaviour? - As a sign that he wants to sit as far away from Cersei as possible? - To prove something by sitting opposite from Tywin? GODS THE SCENES WERE STRONG THEN
This is why we needed more episodes. I was always driven crazy by how slowly the show went because there were such a finite number of minutes and I wanted the plot to progress. But at the same time, this moment is absolutely golden, even though it eats up a ton of time and nothing happens. If we’d have just had more episodes, we could have moved the plot and had these moments.
they were offered 10 seasons, but noooo they wanted to be done so they made the shit that effectively killed any and all interest i had in game of thrones.
Interesting scene Little finger: sits closes to tywin to feel like he is at the same level and has some influence the others don't over tywin. Varys: sits close but let's his enemy make the first move so he can observe, study and then react Pycell: sits far seeing that he knows tywin is on to him and his disguise and occasionally put in his opinion but not overstepping his boundaries. Cersei: sits as tywins "right hand" wanting to feel important and putting herself on tywins level wanting to emulate tywins behavior Tyrion: put himself on the opposite side of tywin. Rarely agreeing or understanding each other but still respecting each other and their opinion tyrion knows who he is and that's not tywin nor does he wish to be him.
Triumphant, superb acting, execution and exposition. The plot development within this short scene lays the foundation for so many future plots. Excellent dialogue, wit, humour and scorn in abundance with each character adding some flair. Twyin commanding the meeting, serious as ever and utterly ignoring the flattery of the council, whilst Cersie claims the exalted seat at the right hand of the father and Tyrion places himself in direct opposition. Masterful!

Knowing Tywin, he would definitely want littlefinger close. He doesn't miss a beat and I'm sure he definitely knew how duplicitous Baelish was.
And yet he still underestimated Baelish nonetheless.
Hard to tell what he thinks of him in the show, but at least in the books Tywin doesn't suspect anything.
It's been years since I've first watched this scene and I still keep coming back to rewatch it every now and then. Can't say that for any scene of seasons 7 and 8.
La escena de daenerys quemando el ejército de Jaime fue bastante buena
Pure class acting without any words !
Even they are not any words , they are actualul saying something about every character in this scene. Amazing !
Cersei’s and Varys’ expressions 🔥
Just this scene is better than whole season 8...
So much is said without words in the first 2 minutes.
I love how this is basically one big classroom
Tywin: The teacher
Littlefinger: Teacher’s pet
Varys: The smart kid
Cersei: The favorite student
Pycell: Senior who doesn’t care anymore
Tyrion: Class Clown
Slight change: Cersei wannabe favorite student
Cersei is just another teacher’s pet
Varys' facial expressions fucking KILL me. omg i love him
1:42 that little grin Varys gives Tyrion is priceless!😆
Almost 2 minutes of sitting down and moving chairs, and it is so enjoyable to watch.
"Titles do seem to breed titles" is a magical phrase
It is isn't.
I love how Varys respects Cersei’s “Gordon’s Knot” approach to the seating arrangement
Gordian
@@worldemperor2735 autocorrect 🤣🤣🤣
@@worldemperor2735 Gordon’s Knot is an old Sesame Street episode 🤣
Tyrion made the most noise and made the biggest scene and still ended up with more power at the table because he himself decided he should be there.
If Tyrion hadn't killed Tywin's wife in birth, he would have loved him far more than either of the twins
the depths of this series is amazing
It wudnt have been as bad for sure if the wife survived ...but in these times a man like tywin wud always be disappointed to have a dwarf as a son ..especially when the other son is a handsome elite swordsmen
Back when game of thrones was still a legendary show
The only Hand that this trio actually feared.
I think the most ironic part of this is if Tyrion had been the monster everyone believed him to be ue could have easily stolen the entire kingdoms wealth and easily betrayed them all. The fact that he actually does care about the kingdom and his family really was always his biggest weakness
The beginning of this scene makes me laugh every time. So much being said and all without a single word.
That chair bit shows off everyone’s character so well lol
I love that last little tiny scoot Tyrion does at the very end of his musical chairs. real power move
Oh man, it's just delicious to come back to moments like this, and remember how simply fucking amazing this show was.
3:02 my favorite moment from the entire series.
Varys' faces are priceless.
I love their faces when one person does things it is so funny especially after cersei moved her chair and seated next to him in 1:14 you can see in tywin's eyes 'your move' and then at 1:27 when tyrion moved the chair cross tywin varys' face like 'OHHH BEAT THOSE BALLS!!'
The last two seasons are stupid, yes.
I like S6 though, great moments, especially in Episode 9 and 10.
Tywin: Tyrion you are now Master of Coin
Tyrion: Price of the Brick is going Up.
The writing in this scene is better than the entirety of Season 8.
Varys would have a fantastic reaction channel on UA-cam with all his facial expressions.
Nails on a chalk board! Totally awesome response. His father should be proud.
Who ever thought that a bunch of people entering a room, saying nothing, dragging chairs and staring at each other could be so funny :))))
wow... when I see scenes alone like this instead of whole series or whole episode, I understand the hidden humor🤣
The way everyone acted in this scene shows all their personalities.
The writing was so good they didn't even need to speak for half of it 😭 one of my favorite scenes
Verys facial expressions had me laughing right through this video 😂😂😂😂😂
I first watched this when I was 15. im now 22 and can actually understand not just the dialogue but the reasons of the chair dragging/ power dynamic going on. brilliant
''Living a life speding money didn't taugh me how to manage it''
Wise words
Littlefinger trying to show boldness, varys just wanting to be done, the old guy just nervous and trying to not do anything, cercei telling little finger to go duck himself and Tyrion mocking them all. Absolutely amazing
2:33 Varys takes a not-so-subtle swipe at Littlefinger.
One of the most subtle and yet brilliant power moves of the series!
I just love the way Tywin face looks when his son starts moving the chair to the other end of the table haha
Watching great scenes like this makes me so sad about how poorly the show ended.
Varys face while Tyrion pulls the chair & while he describes the room are so funny to me 😂
The part where Tyrion moves his chair opposite his father is comedy gold
"conveniently located close to your quarters...." hahahaha
I wonder if we'll ever be able to enjoy a comment section just praising the good acting, without immediately ranting about season 8.
Season 8 happened, it's part of the story and there's nothing you can do about it. Shitting on the entire show will not help.
@Bob Shingles no
The look on Tywin's face when Tyrion starts moving the chair is hilarious to me.
"Why he always gotta-...?"
The way Varys looks at Bailish when tywin mentions Herrenhall and Riverrun, almost taunting him in a way that he got tricked my a dwarf.
This happened 7 years ago?... Damn... I'm getting old
Did Tyrion move his chair to:
- Piss everyone off?
- Ridicule Cersei's behaviour?
- As a sign that he wants to sit as far away from Cersei as possible?
- To prove something by sitting opposite from Tywin?
GODS THE SCENES WERE STRONG THEN
They've some very creative foley going on. It's always good when they do Tywin (so crisp and precise.)
I hate these clips popping up in my algorithm cause it's reminding me how damn good this show was and I miss it so
This is why we needed more episodes.
They had Star Wars to do, speaking of...how's that going, anyways? 💀
The season when GOT was still golden.
The first 2 minutes of this scene say everything about each character in this scene. One of the greatest character moments of the series.
I love how for the first 1 minute 50 seconds, not a single word was spoken. It's all about the actors body language and facial expressions. Amazing!
Interesting scene
Little finger: sits closes to tywin to feel like he is at the same level and has some influence the others don't over tywin.
Varys: sits close but let's his enemy make the first move so he can observe, study and then react
Pycell: sits far seeing that he knows tywin is on to him and his disguise and occasionally put in his opinion but not overstepping his boundaries.
Cersei: sits as tywins "right hand" wanting to feel important and putting herself on tywins level wanting to emulate tywins behavior
Tyrion: put himself on the opposite side of tywin. Rarely agreeing or understanding each other but still respecting each other and their opinion tyrion knows who he is and that's not tywin nor does he wish to be him.
Two minutes of no Dialogue and yet still have better storytelling than Season 8
Triumphant, superb acting, execution and exposition. The plot development within this short scene lays the foundation for so many future plots. Excellent dialogue, wit, humour and scorn in abundance with each character adding some flair. Twyin commanding the meeting, serious as ever and utterly ignoring the flattery of the council, whilst Cersie claims the exalted seat at the right hand of the father and Tyrion places himself in direct opposition. Masterful!
These little scenes make this show so much fun to watch love it
Awwww! The famous Pissing contest at the small council meeting! I would love to know how many takes it took to get this down? OR if it was only one take, how did they stay so composed.
And at 3:33, Cersei’s ‘high speed wobble’…..it looks like the little body shake you would do while urinating if you held it too long!!! 😂🤣
