Exploring an Abandoned Nun College & Convent from 1896 - Timeless Architecture left rotting!

- Опубліковано 21 чер 2023
- Convent's are schools for Nuns, women who devote their lives to learning and teaching religion. This property was built in 1896, inside you'll see 100 year old woodwork, a sanctuary filled with stained glass imported from Europe. Also attached to the property is a Nun College, School for children, as well as a retirement home for seniors and long term nuns.
The downfall of the property started in 2014 when maintenance costs were starting to get out of control for this old building. Water damage and mold attacking this old building and seeping into its cracks.
Years later, we explore what remains on the historical and architecturally beautiful campus. Hopefully you enjoy the film, and let me know what you think!

This is one of the more architectural stunning locations that separates itself from many other buildings in this country. I'm very thankful I had the privilege to explore this location while it looks like it did. Sadly I hear, almost all of the place is destroyed by vandals by now :( gladly my video will be a reminder before those times. Thank you guys for the continuous love ❤
Let me know, which building was your favorite out of all the ones today ?
I respect your opinions, of course. But if people would choose to follow the 10 Commandments, just that, there would be so much less hate, fear, homelessness and so many other tragedies we live with daily. They are really “Rules for a Happy Life.” Just sayin’
Is this the one in Peekskill NY? I noticed u always are in NY, NJ…..I mean I’ve seen u elsewhere but mostly on LI, upstate NY, NJ although we don’t have much in NJ, we got a lil lil something!!!! I’ve always wanted to go look at old abandoned places!!!! I was born in 68 so I remember the old kitchen colors such as yellow or that ugly green, lol….The old rotary house phones, NO microwaves, those big old Zenith TV’s (that’s if u were lucky enough) or it was a small black & white TV….Thanks for bringing childhood memories back to me
Even the church with the beautiful stained windows!??😢
@JCH17 sadly yes. I've heard it's been heavily vandalized sadly. That's why I wait to post locations, to try and prevent people from knowing about it or going. But it was time to upload because it's too far gone
@@DarkExplorationa lot of trash on floor and spraypaint on walls mostly intact tho still worth a visit
Sacred ground...... Thanks for sharing......the ingratitude and vile attacks on these morally upright people is offensive.
Nuns of many orders have done more for mankind than anyone realizes.
Thanks for always be a respectful person.
God bless 🙏
I am glad you guys and the proper people were able to document this place before the vandals and thieves got there. Its in bad shape now. Very very sad. Thank you for what you do.
Such an amazing place! Good too see it's been hardly touched by vandalization. And great to see you back to doing your outros. They really add a great touch.
*EDIT* Just read about the vandals. Sad to hear that.
Thank you Brad!
I just want to thank you for taking us on these sight-seeings.
Despite the decay you, more often then not, take us to beautiful locations.
That chill spot was most likely a bellfrey where the bell was housed which would explain why it wasn't easy to access.
The senior center was most likely for retired priest and nuns initially. As priests and nuns started to die out, they would have accepted others to keep the facility going up to the time that the church decided not to invest in the upkeep any longer.
I love it! I would absolutely live there in a heartbeat! PS, that's a bidet not a urinal. I also had a thought about the room with the lock on the outside. Some autistic children are "elopers" (escape artists), so maybe the parents did that to keep the child from getting out in the middle of the night. Great video! It's such a shame it's not being saved!
I just watched The Proper People explore this place! Quite a coincidence with two different urbexes uploading their videos about the same place just over a week apart. If anything, both videos watched together gave me a more complete view of this place. Plus, it's nice to know you're both in the same area. 😃👍
Such a big complex, would have been a perfect seniors apartment building. The chapel is so gorgeous and the stained glass throughout is absolutely stunning. So glad they are saving it, but it should be saved soon, with the broken window and door allowing people inside, it won't be long before its vandalized :o( Loved the little closets you found and the fireplaces were gorgeous. This could easily be a place for movie settings. And I loved the confession!! 10 Bloody Marys!! I couldn't stop laughing :o) Great explore - lots of things to see and very enjoyable. Thanks guys and stay safe :o)
What an incredible place! So much to see. The woodwork and built-ins are absolutely beautiful. I'm so glad that the stained glass was still intact when you were there. Thank you for documenting these buildings for prosperity's sake.
Great job 👍 bro it was amazing
Fireman 🔥🔥🔥
I would have liked to see the basement of the second building. If that was originally the convent, the basement would have had a laundry and a kitchen, and possibly a dining hall and community meeting room.
That organ 🥰
We have one huge cathedral in our state that has one and at times when you go in it is being played. It's beautiful to listen too.
You finally found a place where at least part of it is slated for renovation! So few of these places are being reused and kept from demolition! Here in the Tampa area, one School board is renovating a closed school building to Apartments for Teachers to use!
Thanks for the info :) I was wondering what was going on:). Have a Great Night or Morning? Dependz. hehehe I live upstate not out.
You are so passionate with your explores. It's good to see. Thankyou for taking us along. Warm greetings from Melbourne Australia ❤
Wow that chapel is gorgeous!
This was an awesome explore. Just to add on in case anyone didn't know, overall nuns serve the church and their communities in many ways, much, much more than only learning and teaching. Charity, medicine, hospice, elder care, homeless care, and a lot more. I mean you guys sure don't know how confession works, lol.
Yes of course! Thank you for the extra information. Just gave a brief description for those who may not know. And you're 100% right, I don't know how it works lol.
Yep , I went to Catholic grade school and High School. Those grade school nuns were tough. Lol!
The big difference in the confessional booth is that the priest hearing the confession opens or closes the window doors. The one making confession waits for the window to be opened by the priest.
@@sueregan2782 Unless of course you go really old-school and do it with just a small curtain out in the open, or face to face!!!! (no thanks, I like the metal mesh screen just fine!)
"im sorry daddy, ive been a bad girl"
"for the last time Mary, its "forgive me father for I have sinned!"
Great explore Devin ❤ love it all the drone footage the backstory and narration and most of all your take on things ❤
Excellent video 🙏. Thanks for sharing this historical information.
Hopefully someone will prevent it from rotting.
God bless 🙏😇
Thanks so much for sharing this magnificent piece of architecture⛪💜
coffer (or coffering) in architecture is a series of sunken panels in the shape of a square, rectangle, or octagon in a ceiling, soffit or vault. They weren’t “skylights.”
This is really a great find. I love watching your videos. You are so respectful and soft spoken. I hope you gain many more followers.
Another great video! Love this channel! 👍’s up
There's so much here. It's like a little community.
Regarding the second auditorium, no, that's just the way ceilings were made. It was done for acoustic reasons. Both My grade school in high school had the same type of auditorium as the buildings I went to school and we're both built in the 1800s
Duuude such a stunning building they could have put to good use after they closed the Coventry!
Interesting and beautiful craftmanship in the wood work. Those stained glass windows were Gorgios!
I bet it was this was an awesome explore! So much could be salvaged and used in other places. Thank you so much for a beautiful time capsule. Sending sweet California vibes.💜😎🤗🇺🇸
There is an old seminary down the road from me that was made into a resort hotel. It's a shame that this is just allowed to rot.
Would be interesting to stay at !
Great coverage/THANK YOU!!
Very interesting exploration. It reminded me to do a search on a big mansion and convent in Western, NY. We had a cousin who was a nun there. I remember visiting her and they brought out cookies. It's cool when you're a little girl to get cookies. I couldn't find the convent when I just googled it. It was a beautiful mansion. I'll keep looking. Take care and be careful.
A lamp in the middle of the room, "Just chillin."
Very cool! The architecture is amazing!
Hope you know i not like your videos i LOVE your videos . My hat is off to you de best and getting better each time:) Thank you for the walk around with you and yes i even had a great time with your video. Peace out Keep Living the Dream Barbieann.NWP Fl. Baby USA

The Ring should have crawled out of the curtains.
How are you guys? I. Hope you're staying? Safe. Thank you for doing expirations. I like it when people do stuff like that and don't destroy stuff hope you are well
Wow all these places look so creepy and I would be afraid of stepping on unstable floor or something.
It looks like the little and younger kids went to school done stairs where the gingerbreads were and the older students had their class rooms were upstairs.
Devin as a exploer nothin intersting to you! (@ it would be nice to see for our views ,we all love details and see what else lies beyond the mind thinking over time, whats that , why did you not go there to show us. See those are asked every time someone explores and leave out many items that we might like ?. Thanks for this exciting explore? Im lost for words on this stunning hand crafted art. Have a wonderful Night Devin take care and be safe. I care Devin . We all care for you
The chapel was built in 1950. The long building with minor chapel was built originally in the 1960s whenlarge groups of postulants entered the community. The building with commercial kitchen housedSisters and infirmary.
Awesome video
Great explore as always! Are they planning to renovate into senior living or demolish and build new?
Amazing place!
I'm glad the construction group is using it for notable cause. It seems fitting
A very nice explore, but they wanna keep it they should do some roof repair b4 it is too late.
“Just tell me 10 Bloody Marys or whatever they’re called” 🤣🤣🤣 funniest part!!
Hello the small church you found up stairs is called a chapel. The nuns quarters would have been close to the church and ( if this a boarding school or orphans ) the children would have their sleeping areas well away from the nuns.
Awesome place. The swing might have been for special needs students, worked with a school, and they loved to swing calmed them down. Hopefully, they save some of those fixtures. I love those lights in chapel.
Will they save the murals and woodwork? The fireplaces are awesome as well. So much to rescue and resell or refurbish and use back into the building.
Less then a month later the place looks so different. It’s definitely been a lot more heavily explored
Thats a really neat place
Wow, depressing.. Thanks guys
Mint love to see it
So sad that it will probably be torn down, instead of something being developed within the original structure.
Unwedded Mother's back in days would usally give birth in a Nunnery, then babies were put up for adoption, being Unwedded & giving birth used to be frowned upon, hence Nurseries & sometimes schools.
The older portions of this complex are beautiful.
It’s sad that beauty is so absent in modern architecture, especially industrial architecture. There seems to be a belief that industrial architecture should be devoid of all beauty.
I hate that “modern” buildings and “modern” alterations to older buildings are often so ugly. I also hate that architecture has declined since World War II as humanity should be constantly improving, not devolving.
Traditional, pre-World War II architecture, building materials, and craftsmanship are my favorite.
I would love for more buildings today to be built using traditional architecture, building materials, and craftsmanship instead of conforming to the often ugly architecture, lackluster building materials, and mediocre craftsmanship that are prevalent today.
If you are in a position to design or build a building, consider using traditional architecture, building materials, and craftsmanship if at all possible as they are more beautiful, higher quality, and more durable than their modern counterparts.
There has been little good art or architecture since before World War II. We need a return to real, beautiful art and architecture, not ugly abstract “art” or bland, plain modern architecture.
It’s a shame that art and architecture during any given time period tends to conform to the same stylistic norms instead of being unique and it’s a shame that the current modern norms are typically low quality and ugly.
The contrast between the beautiful original chapel and the ugly “modern” probably 1960s era chapel highlights this point.
The original chapel was built in 1949 according to information that I found online, so it’s remarkably beautiful for a post World War II building.
kitchen gave off morgue vibes 😱
That gym sure is a mess.
I want that cabinet at 15.06
Bro what this fella has hit like 5 of the abandoned buildings the proper people did
Looks like the campus hosted an urbex open house this week. 😂
Syracuse?
Hope everybody in the shot is doing well
39:21 did anyone else notice that strange sound?
This is hard to watch. Really sad!
I think confession will be a while... LOL
I'm hoping they can save this specials at church before it get vandalized
Hello again, Which order of nuns dose this place belong to? I have never seen such a large number of buildings together like this belong to an order of nuns.
Sisters of St Francis in Syracuse
The community hood no longer afford upkeep. Sold to developer for only 500,000.
Nuns with guns!!😂
Our educational foundation is based on muscle memory, not actual knowledge. Learning the question and then answer doesn't show how you derived at that answer.
I have an idea. Why don't they have immigrants stay in buildings like this? All that money given to housing could be put BACK into the structure, in the community in which it sits. If they looked at places that where ONCE thriving, figure out WHAT made them thrive, and introduced an updated format, we would be benefitting the whole. It just makes no sense.
Iwould be willing to be that it was an orphanage.
It was a daycare in its last usage.Ofiginally was a girls a Catholic high school
Do some research
You would think the Holy Father would have provided the money to renovate to Convent. Another reason why I think religion sucks.
Dude just mention God, Nuns typically go to convents and colleges to learn about and how to teach about god. don't generalize it with just saying Religion. it's a tragedy that those buildings are going to waste, the chapel is beautiful.
1925 chapel.. the year my grandmother was born.
I love old convents and churches, more modern builds are boring and I don't think even have stained glass windows anymore. There is no style! I am not religious but I love crucifixes and religious statues as decoration and have an ever growing collections, along with some nun figurines.
*funding or not for the reason why this place closed down, this further proves where the world is headed.*
I wonder where the nuns went into to continue their work 🫤. Sush a shame as the building had multiple functional facilities, plus being a beautiful place ❤
The Syracuse Franciscans reunited with original spin-off communities. Now called Sisters of St Francis of the Neumann communities
The Syracuse Sisters built a retirement facility and have a 99 year lease with the corporation in Fayetteville, NY
