One of my deepest regrets is that I never saw Wicked with the original cast. Don't get me wrong, the version I saw in March was absolutely incredible, and a Christmas present well worth waiting for! But I dunno, there's something about the chemistry between Idina and Kristin, you can see it when they're smiling at each other over the piano. They helped make the musical what is was and it shows on stage...
Bookworm0485 I've seen it too - the camera probably isn't spot on (and in some places is completely dark) because the camera person had to make sure security didn't see them or something, since it's not allowed.
+Olivia McDonagh I didn't see it with the original cast either. The cast I saw was awesome, but I agree with you on the smiling at each other at the piano thing. It definitely made the musical what it is on and off stage.
5:20 - Its amazing how much a facial expression can make you think. Kristin's facial expression is really powerful because it shows her state of shock, and pain. The realization that this big part of her life, who has had a massive influence on her life if going to be taken away from her. She really is one of the best glinda's from both an acting and singing perspective. She really knows how to portray the more hurt, and serious Glinda, as well as the funny, bubbly, crazy Glinda that we know her as. You can tell Kristin and Idina absolutely adored eachother, Kristins last show is a shining example or their love for one another not just as characters, but best friends outside of the elphaba and glinda frame of mind. She really is an amazing glinda.. Bravo, Kristen!
The one Glinda actress' that makes me cry every time is Megan Hilty. Especially if you watch the clip of her last performance singing this song with Eden and you can see in her face she's not only saying the words to Elphaba but to Eden as well and she actually is holding back from crying so much you can barely make out what she is singing until Eden comes in and they sing together and then when they hug she just breaks down.
This is such a powerful song. Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel are the two most talented actress that I know. Their chemistry between them is amazing. I wish they would make this into a movie because nobody else could do it. I can't wait to see this show! It is truly amazing!!!
Awe, I love the look Kristin gives Idina when she starts singing in rehearsal. I love this song, I've sang it so many times, heard it done so many times, but no one tops Idina and Kristin singing it
When I saw this play on Broadway, I could not stop balling! Even my kids were looking at me like I was crazy. There was not a dry eye in the house. Very moving. Great performance!
i was honored to see Wicked with the original cast. Joel Grey receieved a standing ovation upon his entrance. And though I have not seen any other casts live, this was a highlight of my Broadway experiences. Growing up in New York, Broadway was one of the benefits.
Wow these two never cease to amaze me. The emotion that they put into this... Kristin's look when idina was singing in rehearsal, the way it seems like idina is about to cry at 4:06 when she says "I ask forgiveness for the things I've done you blame me for" and Kristin at 5:20 she looks so real and sad like this is truly goodbye. I love them!
*crying* I sang this song with my best friend from high school for my very last performance at the spring concert. It was emotionally wracking on us both and we cried at the end... But God, we would never be able to sing or have such wonderful chemistry as Kristin and Idina!
Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel looks younger in this video. They are so talented and no one can take their place of playing Glinda and Elphaba in Wicked.
The true beauty in the play comes from this very song, the true beauty of the song comes in their friendship, and the true beauty of their friendship comes from their desire to change ... for good : ) Two of the most talented actors on stage and one of the most connected performances on stage. There really is nothing quite like Wicked :D
Totally agree! I mean, I live in Germany and the german version is not half as good! There is one of Cats, The Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables. So why not Wicked?!
Jana HK They usually only get a DVD release of the showing to mark a milestone. Phantom got a 25th anniversary, Les Mis got a 10th anniversary concert and 25th anniversary concert. Rent got a live recording because the show was being retired.....It'll happen. I will say all you have to do is type in Wicked full show and you will find the entire show on here. I have downloaded them from here and have like 4 different versions including kristin/idina, megan/eden and many more lol Great way to see the show if you can't make it to NY
Oh My God! That was beautiful! When Kristin started crying in the practice and then Idina did onstage...and then at the end when they both tried not to... It must have been the most magical Broadway experience EVER to have seen these two. To anyone who did, you are VERY lucky! LOVE Idina!
in the 8 times I've seen the show I've only cried twice during this song. at the closing night performance in San Francisco in 2010 (although THAT paled in comparison to the other time) the other time was actually not at a performance of the show but rather when I was in the hospital in 2010. I brought my laptop with me to keep me occupied and was listening to thew Broadway channel on Live365, this song came on and I "toto"ally LOST it.
Danny Eyheralde Really?? I've seen it thousands of times, my dad's been on the lighting crew since Gershwin still played Riverdance and he was taken onto the Wicked team, where he's remained since. Watching from the wings, the back of the orchestra seating, the side of he mezzanine, or the cameras in the Pit practically every night I was allowed to was practically my entire childhood. I remember crying nearly every time I saw it, or at least coming close. I think the only times I wasn't very emotional were during all of Ana's or Kassandra's Eras
It really hurts my feelings that, if I actually ever get to see Wicked, these two won't be a part of it. The way they look at each other just melts your heart!
I can't even fudging watch this without crying like an infant. I had the honor of meeting Idina after her concert in Boone, NC back in July..... BEST DAY OF MY LIFE.
From 4:50 towards the end, I’m left with tears in my eyes. Gosh. Had to rewind and watch that bit quite a few times. I love this musical and the talent these two amazing people have.
These two are definite professionals.....I pretty much get chocked up every time I hear this song....I don't know how they got through it night after night
I watch this all the time.. and it still just makes me smile and fall in love with this musical all over again.. For those who have never seen the musical but have heard it's music, please go see it! It will mean SO much more!
I sang this with my best friend at our last choir showcase our senior year in high school and the very next year we got into a huge fight and are now no longer friends. I listen to this all the time and think of the great times we had and how much we cried at the end of this song.
This song means the world to me. This story basically is the fairy-tale version of my best friend and I. When I graduated in May, we sang this song after the ceremony. Thanks to everyone involved in Wicked for making a song and a show that means so much to my life.
My sentiments exactly! And I LOVE how well this song works out of the context of a musical. I have a few friends who I love like sisters, and this song fits the lot of us very well. First time I heard it, I thought of them.
Now that I have seen part 1 of the movie, what I have been thinking immediately after I came back to my senses at the end, is how emotional I will be by the end of part 2 because of this song. It will break many people's hearts for sure, once again.
Kristin is so adorable, her little face when Idina is singing in the rehearsals. I love them so much- also adore the way she touches Idina's hat in the show during this song.
'I had to take a breath, where do I take I breath in there?' So Cute and also how Kristin smiles at Idina across the Piano. I love them both, they sing so beautifully together x
How can they sing this duet without tearing up? It gets me every time I hear the song. *sniff* So true that this song, like so many of the Wicked songs, can apply to so many different people and relationships.
I was blessed enough to have a grandma who took me to see Wicked when I was visiting her in San Francisco when I was 13, so with its original (pre-Broadway) cast. That night is burned into my memory, for good. Thank you grandma. Now it's my turn to help expose the kids in my life to great art.
My sister got married in fiji last september and at the reception she sang this song but changed the "I knew you" to "I loved you" it was beautiful because my sister is really talented but it was overwhelming because of the feelings that came from it as its a very powerful song and you could really see how much in love she is...These two rock and their voices are amazing loved Idina in Rent
I just saw Idina in NJ when she was promoting her new CD. What an amazing voice! And to hear her sing in person, I can't even discribe it. Come back to Jersey Idina!!!!
The best Glinda and Elphie! No Competition. Their chemistry is amazing. I love the look Idina is giving Kristin at 1:04 to 1:10. It so adoring. Then at 3:22 to 3:25 when Kristin is looking back at Idina. Their amazing!
it definetly shows how good of an actor they are by what they can do with there eyes... it make all the songs sound and look so much more emotional for the audience and such
i really loved this musical. seeing the practice is awesome because it shows that even Broadway musicals start with a couple of people and a piano rehearsing
I do believe I have been changed for the better...I don't know why I can get through the whole song without a tear, but when that line comes, I just break down. The harmony is beautiful.
I love this song! I was crying when i saw it for the first time!!! Idina and Kristin are a great pair!! To great artists!!! I wish i could sing like them! :P

This clip belongs in a museum to be preserved for the rest of time. Arguably the best Broadway show of all time
Hopefully the Narrative Museum in Los Angeles!
Idina's "where do I take a breath" just made me love her even more
Kristen's adorable smile when Idina is singing just melted my heart
*kristin
Alicia Lambert yeah whoops.

This will go down as one of the best musical theater duets of all time.

who here agrees that Kristen and Idina are the perfect Elphaba and Glinda? Their Chemistry is just Golden

who else is bawling their eyes just watching the rehearsal, let alone the actual scene?
December 2024. Cant wait for Wicked Part Two next year! 🩷💚

They have undeniable and beautiful chemistry, musically and emotionally. Nobody can live up to what they've done and achieved.
This was always our song. Miss you, my friend. Always do, but a little more keenly this time of year ♡
😔😪 May all your precious memories bring happiness in the void that continues

Well, it *has* been over 10 years, as of 2013, so... I'll just continue to twiddle my thumbs in anticipation, I guess. :P
Phantom didn't get a 10 year so its not for every show. They are in the process of casting the movie version though
Really? Ooh, that should be fantastic!

I can't even fudging watch this without crying like an infant. I had the honor of meeting Idina after her concert in Boone, NC back in July..... BEST DAY OF MY LIFE.
tears tears so many tears
Tears flowing down my face so naturally ....
I miss early 2000s much better times
Yeah. Tell me about it.
Ummmmmm 9/11? Iraq war? Afghan war? Tsunami that killed 240,000 people?
Maybe for some people.
From 4:50 towards the end, I’m left with tears in my eyes. Gosh. Had to rewind and watch that bit quite a few times. I love this musical and the talent these two amazing people have.

i always get goosebumps when those harmonies come in.. kristin and idina are amazing, i wish i could have seen them when they were still on broadway.

Kristen looks so much younger without all that black eyeliner and orangy tan..she is beautiful anyway, but she looks way younger in her natural way.
Bridgit D I agree, but in her defense, most people look much younger 12 years in the past ;)
I don't think I could ever tire of this.....I love seeing these two together soooo much!

i love when kristin touches Idina's hat !!!.
Not even ashamed to say I very nearly cried at this.
It gets me as emotional as seeing it live and I always say NOTHING compares to seeing it live.
I love this song! I was crying when i saw it for the first time!!! Idina and Kristin are a great pair!! To great artists!!! I wish i could sing like them! :P

I am from NY and have seen Wicked a couple times. This is "my song" with my sister. My sister moved to Melbourne this year and when I visited her we saw it there. We too had tears in our eyes. It is so great that this play can bring so much emotion through connection. :)
Idina and Kristen are by far the best, too.
