Fantastic, it’s like being in college taking music lessons, the best tuitions and explanations of all the teachers on the internet, thank you so much 🎸🎶.
I cannot believe the coincidence! Today I managed to 2 hours playing over a E minor slow backtrack and I just discovered the Bb King Box by chance, my brain told me to try the shape and I kept using it once in a while in various places. Thanks for the full explanation and now I also remembered to have seen it use by many players in Rock music!!! After 40 years I am finally playing FAR better thanks to your channel mainly! ❤ ... Addition : I just remember there is a Jeff Beck song that starts with it and it is the main feature!
Yes sir Ricky. You have a gift of teaching guitar. Going where no other you tube teacher seems to want to go in such a methodical approach to learning that fretboard and the why behind each note. Thanks for demystifying the guitar.
Boom! I just realized why I play guitar. Because it let me be in the "now". and why I would spend 5-8 hours every night all by myself in my room. I was soothing my soul, grounding myself in the sound, connecting my mind and body on the fretboard, and expressing myself. I thought I was writing songs, but really I was pouring my heart out. In the "now". Now now
I know this video is 3 years old but I am very glad that I found it.I’ve learned more from this than I did after almost a year with Fender lessons. After your explanation of how this works I’ve had my aahh haa moment.I am finally making real music.Thank you.
Another excellent video, Ricky! A great teacher is someone who can simplify the complicated, provide "memory hooks", and inspire students. You do it all with good humour and humility. Thank you.
I’ve been using this shape from my knowledge of the major pentatonic , finding the relative Maj of any blues root that I’m on. I really appreciate learning that this is what BB did. I know it will now inform how I use that box. And the breakdown of the color tones in the scale is so helpful. 3rd the defining color, 5th transparent, 7th more color, 2nd and 6th really nice sophisticated color, the 4th tricky more complicated, the flat 3 can be bent up almost to the maj 3 and the root resolve, the octave backward slide can close a phrase. This is great! Thanks Ricky!
God Bless you for this... tell your family thank you for helping make the video happen and putting the vacuuming on hold for the video... i feel this video helped me understand how to play guitar more. like making my way through the plateau that im at.
This was brilliant, because it's all about how to fulfill any bluesy kind of expression wanted on which places on the fretboard. That is, what you have to achieve, when you try to express a certain feeling musically. I firgured out some of those different feelings by myself, but for me there was always something missing, some other variations. Those i found here wonderfully explained by deconstructing parts of chords i was missing.
Dankjewel from the Netherlands 🤯 another mindblowing lesson ...was already using the house of blues but now i know what i'm doing ( or should be doing )
Ricky is so great! Utterly chaotic about a third of the time, but, it works. I learn more from Ricky than from any guitar teacher on YT. I think Ricky strategically plans the chaos to keep us focused. I love it!!
If It's a live video then yes...expect chaos as I battle technology, (especially in my older videos). I appreciate you watching despite the chaos and stoked you learn stuff from my vids Michael :)
@@rickysguitar It's not a criticism. I think you're a genius. Seriously you have made things clear for me that I've heard for years but never fully comprehended. Love your videos and appreciate the work that you do. Cheers!!
Ricky I've learned more from you in 5 days since I've found your videos than 2 years here. Sure I know a lot but the repetitive note naming you do is outstanding for knowing these scale degrees.. I hope you keep posting these amazing lessons.
i know most of this but this was a good study to go back over, i feel like i learnt new stuff too, or new ways of viewing old info maybe, regardless your a great teacher mate, your passion and enthusiasm show, thanks for the inspiration and tips, ha the hoovering bit is funny! got me there!
I have subscribed your video two day's ago and have already found so many stuffs that needed for a beginners. Yours video's have been a guide to find my lost way on guitar journey. I appreciate your time!!! Lots of love fromLA.
Excellent lesson! Just one suggestion is on your chalkboard, label just one fret on each diagram...sometimes one can get lost to exactly where we are. Thanks!
Hi Ricky, excellent lesson! Thank you sir! My question is the BB box shape, to move from minor to major, is the same shape moved back 3 frets. Is this correct? In the key of A, moving on the G string from 9th fret back to the 6th fret? Thanks!
Thank you, sir, for this video. I have seen the "house" shapes before, and usually it shows the root and whether it is major or minor, but it is nice to see what intervals the other notes are. I think something is finally getting through my skull!
Thanks m8. Great lesson 👍 Can I just ask , where u say its movable. Do u mean I could play a g minor chord then use the minor shape box starting from the g root note position ( or 3rd) And keeping that shape ? And that could be done with any chord ? Also the same with the 7th dominant or major e barre shape with the major box shape 🤔
Great stuff again Ricky, keep them coming, just wondering Ricky with the 5 shapes of the minor pentatonic, starting with the first position when you change from minor to mayor, first finger for minor and pinky for mayor can you do the same with the rest of the pentatonic shapes going from minor to major with the changing of the first finger to the pinky, thanks Alan.
BB King stayed inside those cord shapes alot inside the triangle you can play The Thrill is gone 11 fret G string. B & E on the 10 ,B on the 12. 4 strings inside the triangle
Hey John! Hope you caught the live lesson! Say hi next time if you did :) thank you for commenting. It goes to show you don't need much to speak your heart on the guitar :)
A complete train crash of a lesson, ads galore.and almost unwatchable. Totally frustrating but brilliant content 😂🎅 this hairy biker has ALL of the elements of blues nailed for beginners like myself....just need to sort the meat from the potatoes. 😎😂
Once again, another HOME RUN guitar lesson! Huge thanks from Cleveland Ohio... Cant wait to see what you got coming next! Cheers.

Hi Ricky, excellent lesson! Thank you sir! My question is the BB box shape, to move from minor to major, is the same shape moved back 3 frets. Is this correct? In the key of A, moving on the G string from 9th fret back to the 6th fret? Thanks!
Great lesson, very clearly explained. Thank you!!

Thanks!
Thanks Drew, very much appreciated.
Outstanding! Great job mate!!!!!!
Hiya Dwayne. Thanks for tuning in. I didn't mention in the lesson that there's another box BB King loved to play. See you next time I guess lol?
@@rickysguitar Thank you Ricky...I will do just that, and I will see you next time.
That's a sub if I've ever seen one.🤔❤
American. 🇺🇸🎸💯👍👍.
I'm confused, that looks like the bottom part of position 4, major pentatonic. The 1st position skips 2 frets on the 1st string
Had Harriet started vacuuming while Ricky was trying to teach the major pentatonic formula, it might have knocked him back into a minor tonality.
Box 4
Great from Adrian
