Actually, the scaling differences between Wii and 8 Deluxe are too big to get a good representation of how good the karts are. Take for example, if you compared Wii Moo Moo Meadows and 8 Deluxe Moo Moo Meadows, the wr on the Wii version is 7-8 seconds faster. However, the scaling on Koopa Cape causes the Wii wr to be a full 21 seconds slower than the 8 deluxe wr.
Best looking karts are the B Dasher, Sprinter, Circuit Special, P Wing Shame that the best karts stat wise are the goofy looking ones like Biddybuggy or whatever
nice!! that's a fun lil video :) im not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but did you do SMK and MK64 in time trials? in those two games, time trials mode is 100cc instead of 150cc, so it might have messed with the results regardless i think MKSC would come out on top, but it would certainly be closer, keep it up!!
I like the video, but for Wii specifically, Coconut Mall and Moonview Highway were truncated in 8 DX, you can see that by comparing the minimaps from the 2 games, most likely explaining why Coconut Mall won by over 6 seconds and Moonview Highway by almost 2.
This feels... off. The B-Roll of each game shows different karts and different characters. I would've expected a more standard combination of kart and character, something like Mario in a standard kart (of course, with the stock wheels and glider in 7 and 8). Now whether he did this for the tests but didn't show that as B-Roll, idk, but if he did, I think it's weird.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe retro tracks in MKWii (and possibly MK8) are scaled up compared to their original counterparts to accommodate for 12 players, specifically GameCube to Wii, and probably DS to Wii too. I'm not sure if MK8 scales Wii tracks down/has smaller scales for retro tracks that were also in Wii or not
Ive been subbed to this guy for some time now, and when I say I was shocked when watching some of his newer videos, I was. Bro sounds completely different and I had to go back to an old video and make sure I wasn’t crazy. Sounds totally different but content is just as good, if not better.
The problem is 8 deluxe courses are shrunk down when compared to the Wii ones. So moonview highway is for sure going to be faster on the 8 deluxe , same as how koopa cape would be faster on 8 deluxe
While doing the tests yourself is good, I hope you also checked the glitchless speedrun lap records to confirm your rankings fit, to eliminate any possible skill issues.
I think putting the metas from all of the games would be a better indication of which game has the fastest vehicles instead of random combos. Also, some tracks are scaled bigger in MKWii and MK8DX to accommodate for 12 players along with some other tweaks. Mario Circuit 3 on MK8DX and MKWii is bigger and wider than Mario Circuit 3 on the SNES and GBA, so it's not a true apples to apples comparison there. When a track is remade, there's always something Nintendo changed, and while they maybe 95% the same, it's not 100% the same.
I would love a longer video that tries to give some sort of stats to these, like figuring out how fast the carts actually are, how quickly they accelerate, etc.
I thought of doing this, but this method is WAY more flawed than what I ended up using Firstly, The most used and most reliable website for getting leaderboard times (mkwrs.com) doesn’t have any flap times (fastest lap) for most of the games, and while there are some websites focused around individual games, I can’t be very certain about their reliability. I explain why we need flap times instead of full course runs in the video, but it basically boils down to different games having different amounts of laps Setting aside the fact that its basically impossible to get accurate times, there are more issues with this method. Different games give you different amounts of mushrooms for time trials (see ds), which obviously is a difference with the game rather than the karts themselves. This is especially impactful because some games have shortcuts that simply don’t exist in other games (Yoshi Circuit piranha nisc)
@Jopes those are fair points. My idea to solve this would be to take the first or last lap from any individual 3 lap record. I know it wouldn't give the fastest lap for that track, but it'd be close enough. This still has the problem of item usage and shortcut variability, but I think it'd be more objective because I'd assume you're not equally good at each game. Depending on how even your skill level is between games, this could or couldn't be drastic enough to change which method is the most optimal. But, I was more thinking about if I did this challenge and I suck ass at some mario karts (any of the ones pre ds tbh) so just me playing all the game wouldn't give some a fair chance. If you play all of them enough doing it with one person is fine Also I had no clue that flaps weren't recorded for most games I just assumed they had them lmao Honestly I always like to watch these kinds of videos and think of the most optimal way to get the answer, no matter how unfeasable it is. My best idea at the moment would be to have multiple top players race all the retro tracks, and the same with the originals top players, both with no items. Then, have those people race with the best overall kart/character for each game (like funky kong flame runner). OR if you wanna be really insane have at least 2 players race each kart combo possible with the same character in each game.
Been watching you for a long time, and I just want to congratulate you for getting this far on UA-cam! I hope to see you more in the future, whether it’s just keeping on mariokart, or trying on something new! ❤
8DX would wipe the floor with Super Circuit. Most of the tracks in SC got cut down significantly in 8DX (because Tour is a great game with no issues whatsoever.)
I think that it would be interesting to compare with each games best combo because that could make a big difference. For example not taking the flameruner or the mach bike on wii with the ability to whelee makes a big difference
probably because speedrunners use glitches to the point where it would be very hard to discern anytthing useful, not to mention the fact that in wii bikes are preferred, meaning that there is almost no data for the standard kart at top-level play
@@BigGhoul53425 I definitely considered it, but since different versions of the courses have different shortcuts that you can take (among other factors) it would become more about the courses than the karts. Also, the best kart in each game isn’t necessarily representative of all of them
Yes, the tracks are recreated in newer games but the layouts change, the frame rates are different, the physics and rules of the game are different each time. I think the only comparable karts are those in the games that are happening in a 3d world if you can find one single track that is the same across the games. I am aware that this is close to impossible but it is what it is. Also, I didn't hear a single thing about acceleration, speed and mini-turbo stats
with your way of comparison and assuming mk8 lost to mkds, what would happen if double dash won against mkds, but mkwii (previously ruled out) would have won against double dash if measured?
When you were wondering when it was Possible to create an impossible balloon just so you know, I have some strategies that you can use. Even if you don't play balloon world anymore. These will be good strategies that you could've used.
Also because Tour would get absolutely stomped even by 7. The game's just a lot slower because it's not actually focused on going fast anyway but rather scoring points.
I feel like this has more to do with the lengths of the courses in each game combined with each game's respective physics than it has to do with just kart speed. Maybe Super Circuit has the shortest lap times, but for pure sense of speed, Double Dash blows all other games out of the water imo.
Comparing WR times in each game also supports the claim that MKSC has the fastest karts. ...Or does it? Looking at the size of the characters compared to the course, a track in MKSC looks to be about 8 kart widths across a lane. Taking MKDS as a comparison, it looks to be about 10 kart widths across, if not more. And modern games are scaled even higher, due to needing to accommodate 12 player races. Scaling between games means a direct time comparison is insufficient to draw any hard conclusions.
Karts are the main vehicles in the Mario Kart series. They can come in various sizes and colors for each character. While early Mario Kart games only depicted one kart, the Go-Kart, subsequent games have introduced newer karts with their own distinct appearances and stats such as speed, acceleration and handling. Usually, the kart that is closest to average in terms of stats in each game is defined as the Standard Kart.
