      @@nickkalrfirst They weren't actually bred to be pets, the reason there's so little of them in the wild is because of trends and demands for them to be pets. People catch them and hunt them to the point of extinction. Wild axolotls i mean. There are axolotls that are bred by humans to be pets, but those are often the minority that you see in pet stores. (the other reason its hard for them to survive is because of pollution ^^)

    • @kevingold1091
      @kevingold1091 2 роки тому

      @@nickkalrfirst No, they are almost extinct in the wild because their habitat has been ruined by pollution from the expansion of Mexico City and the introduction of predator species (carp and tilapia), which prey on Axolotls.
      That said, there are estimated to be millions being kept in captivity, both for research and as pets. I pity the ones being kept for research, and hope the ones being kept as pets are given good homes where they can live a happy and healthy life.

    Beautiful specimen. Glad you finally put it back in water. They aren't survivors, they are pretty much extinct in the wild. It's a shame that they lay so many eggs yet the water quality must be so poor. Now wonder when that man had waaaaaaaay too many picked ones. I'm happy to maintain them well in captivity even if they are captive bread. It's a shame there are not breeding programs in Mexico.
