Hey mate, really loved your video. I dropped my camera and now with your help it is working like brand new again. Thanks a lot, sent you a tenner, I know it's small but you really helped me.
Hello, I had seen your video about replacing the display for a SONY RX 100 and started taking my camera apart when I realized I own an RX100iii. I removed the battery and had removed all of the back screws, when I got burned and seemingly shocked twice (slow learner!). Point is, I was a little into the process when I discovered that you don't need to remove all of those back screws to replace the screen. I was eager to reassemble and start that when I saw that a small (1/4" x 1/8") black plastic rectangular piece had fallen out. It is rounded on the edges with small rectangle in the middle, one side of which protrudes and the other side is recessed. Might you be able to tell me where that piece fits? Lastly, if we can shoot with the viewfinder, does that mean that the display is not broken? Regardless, I have to reassemble it and any suggestions for that piece are greatly appreciated. Thank you. Mike
Thank you for this! I just replaced lens on my RX 100 V. It's almost identical on IV but actually has one less connector on the motherboard. Word of warning that flash capacitor shocks like a #$%*!
Was it difficult to do? I have a mark V as well and the aperture at f < 4 is unreliable. If this is doable in a weekend I would definitely consider it.
Hello, Great detailed video. Quick question, is it possible to replace the sensor with another rx100 version on sensors for example place in an rx100 mark 2 with the rx100 mark 1?
Hi, I wonder is there an easy way to change control ring? I droped mine M4, and the focus ring is now bend, it still works but it's hard to turn. Thanks for your answer.
Hi, I have an m4 that I think was dropped down. It turns on the power light but nothing more. The lens seems stucked since also the focus ring doesn't slide well. Do you think could be the lens or something else? Thank you a lot
@@daves.projects I don't see any damage to the ring. It doesn't slide well so I suppose it's not perfect. I think the camera was dropped because if I turn it on the lens doesn't come out and the display remain black. Only the upped led (the one on the power botton) is turning on. I already tried to leave it there for some time without battery but didn't work. Thank you!!
@@daves.projects I have just tried again and the lens come out a little bit but I wasn't able to do anything else. I tried to connect it to the power cable but it doesn't seem it's charging so I think it could be also the motherboard.
@@daves.projects Hi, I had some time to disassemble the camera and I discovered that someone already tried to disassemble it, since part of the motherboard is broken (the connector of a flat cable). I was thinking to unsolder it and resolder it but I also noticed that the WiFi antenna is missing and I can't understand if the person that disassembled the camera before did a mess or if there are models with a different WiFi antenna. What do you think? Thank you a lot.
Linux, I bought a mark V used but soon found out that the aperture doesn't work anymore. I brought it to a repair center to ask for a cost estimate and it was over 280 pounds. Then I found this video and was like "wow, I might be able to save almost 200 pounds". But I'm a little concerned about moving the sensor from one lens unit to the other. I see you move shims as well? But these shims are there to compensate for manufacturing tolerances, right? And with a new lens unit, those tolerances can be different, right? And also, dust can accumulate on the sensor I think? Just trying to get an idea of whether I should just pay the 280 pounds to get it fixed instead. Thank you.
just move your shims to the new lens. i have done many with no problems. just do it in a clean environment much like i did. and do not blow on it with your mouth if you do see dust. you might make it worse by getting spit on it. and whatever you do, do not touch the lens glass with anything thinking you can clean it off. you will smudge the glass and it will never be any good.
Realy find your clip useful. I am in a situation where I need to change my lense, I dropped my RX-100MV and the dent in it is preventing the little doors that protect the lens to close completly when I turn off the camera (ptherwise it works just fine). Do you have a link for where you recommend to purchase one? Many thanks!
Thank you for the video. I just tried to replace my lens with an ebay purchase used but tested lens, but after i put it back together the camera will not turn on and the power button just keeps flashing on and off green. Do you think I have a bad replacement lens or did I not connect any ribbon cable correctly? Thanks in advance!
somethings not connected, did you rush it? first cable i would check is the main lens cable. the one at 12:46 , the camera is getting power but not finding the lens. I always buy new lenses. to much work for a used lens.
ok. found the cable that wasn't connected and that was resolved. but now nothing will display on the LCD but I know it's on because it's backlit. The lens i got came out of closed position but now will not close when turned off. I accidentally folded one of the flash ribbon cable connectors too much that it tore. :-| Ugh... Anyway's would a bad lens also affect the LCD not displaying? Going to have to buy a new flash part and new lens I guess. But really just want to know if LCD not displaying is due to a bad lens. Not having a good day.. Thanks!

Hi, thanks for the video. I have a question, do you know if the replacement lens for the mark 4 is the same of the one for the mark 3? In ebay some are sold for a specific model while other for mark 3, 4 and 5. Thank you!
I have an rx100 M4, for the life of me I can’t figure out what’s wrong with it. It has a prompt that mentions “unable to read card”. I inspect the ribbon cables and board and everything looks fun with no corrosion of any chips showing a short. You ever have issues needing to replace card readers or should I be hunting for the issue somewhere else?
Hi! I have the same camera, my problem is the LCD. The color in the LCD is all wacky so I ordered a replacement from Aliexpress. Also, my EVF does not work. It just shows nothing on it. Is changing the LCD on RX100 IV similar to the previous generation? Also would love a video or EVF replacement. I would send my camera to you to get it fixed but I am in Nepal. Thanks again.
Good videos. I have an original RX100 and have replaced the image sensor myself. Now the zoom has stopped working. Took lens out, can't see any issues. Camera still works, but won't zoom. Am thinking about replacing the lens (can get online for $100) but not sure that really is the problem. Any thoughts on this?
Could be. I took the lens out and checked the visible parts of the cable, but they look ok. Zoom also won't work using the control ring. This made me think it was a lens issue rather than a zoom lever issue - since both ways of controlling the zoom (lever and control ring) don't work. However, I also cannot zoom when reviewing a picture on the LCD. I'd just replace the lens but I'm not sure that's the problem. Am sending you a donation for your help.
Hi Linux, thanks for this video! I have found lens in ebay and it comes from china, do you think that its the same lens and doesen't afect the quality? thank you
Thank you so much for the vid! I have a quick question. Im looking to replace the lens cap on my IV. i dropped it and it's dented. Do i need to disassemble the whole thing to replace it?
if you're talking about the lens dust covers flaps, turn the camera on, remove the battery so the lens stays extended, put heat on the top aluminum lens ring. ( where the decal numbers are ) pull the aluminum lens ring to loosen the double sided tape. you have to work with it to get the tape to loosen. a small dent in the aluminum can make the lens flaps covers not move as they have very light springs. look in my sony camera play list for the recent repair on a sony M4, its shows the aluminum ring removed and you can see where this tape is.
Success! turns out I bought this M4 used, and the previous owner had dropped it with the lens out and dented the outermost lens ring. When I got home I noticed that the flash was stuck too. I started carefully inspecting the camera and discovered he clearly opened up the camera to get the lens since he gave me the new replacement part. There was also a screw missing, the paint was chipped on the screws, and the outer case was just a little off. So, i followed your video to see what was going on and turns out he put long screws right where you said "these are different size!". jammed the flash release mechanism. the heat on the lens cap had it come right off too. It's all fixed now! (though I have 2 side screws that don't thread) :( Anyway you're the man! thanks a bunch!
Linux you are amazing. Can you help fix my R4? I dropped it in New York. Everything works but the lens doesn't open all the way or close so I have to manually open or close it and it gets tedious :(. Please let me know.
if you're talking about the lens dust covers, they have very light spring, any dent in the aluminum lens ring will make them not open or close. or if you're talking about the lens itself this too can be caused by a dent in the aluminum lens ring. the lens ring can be removed by applying heat to the double sided tape ( you can see the tape on the lens at the beginning of this video) once warm pull up and hold to let the tape loosen. dont pull too hard, just take your time and work with it till it gets loose. they sell them lens rings on ebay. but i think you have to buy some double sided tape.
