I love this game out of all the Remedy games for two reasons: 1) The combat is balls-out awesome. There is no feeling like throwing a fire extinguisher into a guy's face, then throwing that guy's face into another guy's face. 2) The world-building. Even without the Hiss, the Oldest House is weird and exotic and intricate, with a hundred little Night-Springs-style stories branching off through the various memos, movies, and dialogues. I am so glad you're one of those players who reads EVERYTHING and appreciates the work that went into this bizarre little game. Look forward to your continued exploration of the Oldest House!
A gem from Remedy. Still underappreciated. The start of this game threw a lot of people off from playing further, even those of us familiar with the Remedy universe found it confusing haha. The way it handles the exposition though is masterful, pacing it so it just gives you enough but opening up more questions. It's a VERY intelligent game, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did on the first playthrough. Btw: you were not cheesing Tomassi haha. Hiding from his launch and shooting between is how you handle him.
1:03:41 I played this game before ALAN WAKE 2, so I had already heard of the Oceanview Motel. When I saw the Oceanview Hotel appear in AW2, I damned near fell out of my padded cell.
Welcome in, and thanks so much! I try with the details, sometimes I miss the most obvious things though haha. Btw is your name JSandwich a reference to Resident Evil?
"Could he just hear my thoughts there for a second?" Awesome start. 🙂 You are way more perceptive than most I've seen play the game, you would not believe how many people miss this. Control is one of my top 5 games, I love the beauracratic weirdness, mixed with all the hints to much deeper and wider implications.
There are a couple of other things most people miss. After Ahti directs you to the elevator, you keep going forward only to end up back in the entrance hall somehow, except instead of his picture on the wall there's now an elevator. And once you get the service weapon (becoming the new Director), the director portraits on the walls change from Trench to Jesse.
Hey LIZZ, great first episode. The video/voice messages in the game usually have extra content if you view them through the menu (as opposed to when they play in the world). Keep up the great work.
I'm so stoked you're finally playing Control Lizz. Glad you've got the UA-cam channel because I haven't had the time to have Twitch streams on the last few months. Arseburger out 👍😁
Hey LIZZ, thanks for playing and uploading this game👍👍 I played it too on PS5 with haptic feedback on the controller when you are running through the areas. That was a cool feeling in the hands.
Hey Lizz! Excited to see this playthrough! For context, the events of Control and its DLCs take place before Alan Wake II and there is a DLC that ties directly into it. Matthew Porretta is the actor and voice of Dr. Darling. He is also the voice of Alan Wake, whereas Finnish actor Ilkka Villi portrays his physical model.
@@LIZZgame Thank you for making it. Also I'm not sure if you figured this out later on, but the Hotline videos have more details if you watch them from the menu compared to when they show up as an echo in the game. It gives you more explanations on what is going on. -Lily
One of the few games I've platinumed. Just amazing from top to bottom. Pretty sure the devs came up with this after watching _The Lost Room_ - an underappreciated miniseries on SyFy.
1:00:17 I spent so much time trying to get into places that unlock with plot progression. I actually spent an entire hour trying to break into a sealed vault that just opened up later on. I'm impatient like that.
I started this after AW2 as well, great to see your reactions were just like mine 🤣 also, you check everything out, games devs must love you for making the most of all their work 😊
This showed up on my UA-cam home (suggested videos, I guess?) probably because I'm watching UA-camr The Sun Queen do her first playthrough of Alan Wake. I immediately started watching it because Control is one of my all-time top 10 games. While I love the story in Alan Wake and especially Alan Wake 2, I don't particularly love the gameplay, but I love the story *and* gameplay in Control. (BTW, have you done the NG+ playthrough of AW2 yet? I love the new ending.) You mentioned that AW2 was your game of the year, and despite not loving the gameplay, the rest of it is awesome enough that I would probably say the same for new games that I played last year. That said, it may have been the only new game that I played last year besides Assassin's Creed Mirage (which I liked, but not as much as the Assassin's Creed open-world trilogy). My favorite game that I played last year-great enough for my tastes that it too ended up in my all-time top 10 like Control-was Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and that brings me to my reason for commenting. I did scroll through your channel and watched enough of your Mirage playthrough to hear that you'd also played Odyssey *and* I heard you say "Malaka" during this video of Control. So the question is: Are you Greek, or did you just pick up using Malaka as a curse from Odyssey?
I wish you'd played this before Alan Wake 2, but I'm so glad you're playing it now. I'm even happier that so far (I haven't watched all of it yet) it seems this is not a second-hand stream but actually recorded specially for UA-cam. Is that right? I always prefer YT videos over streams but especially so with mysterious games like this one. People can't seem to prevent themselves dropping spoilers all over any stream of this game lol. You'll probably have a better experience figuring it out for yourself. Obviously I don't know you, but I would definitely enjoy it more whether I was playing or watching your series... and I'm REALLY looking forward to watching your series! Good luck with this game. I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did on my first playthrough. You have so much wonder and head-scratching ahead of you lol
PS... I didn't know people hated the map. I love it. To me it's so clear and easy to use that it's one of my favourite in-game maps. I do have brain damage so I guess that might be the difference, but this map is perfect to my mind lol I finally found an upside to brain damage. Hurrah! 😁
No, this is from Twitch. I try to edit as much out as possible, and still working on finding a better system so neither Twitch (ignoring chat) nor UA-cam (little focus on game, annoying alerts) suffer from another. We're working on developing a system that might improve all of this.
@@LIZZgame Yes, I realised this later on... but I was still a little unsure for a while. The editing is exceptionally well done. I want anyone responsible to know their efforts are appreciated. I thoroughly enjoyed the episode and I'm eager for more. You would have definitely earned a new sub here if I wasn't already subscribed.
Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Control. In my mind it is essential to read, watch and listen to every bit of lore you come across. It will give you an idea on how good the world building is in this game and how the game fits in with the whole of the Remedyverse. ( Alan Wake 1 &2). For god sakes do not stay still when in combat you will end up dead pretty quickly. You have to be constantly moving, aggressive and use every advantage, enviromental or otherwise. This type of combat makes the gameplay very chaotic, dynamic and great fun. Ive played Control several times and never once been bored by it. Enemy types are not vast but there are enough of a variety to keep things fresh. Upgrade abilities and your service weapon as soon as you can. A lot of people who i watch playing Control get confused by the Assets tab in your inventory. 'Materials ' are exactly what it implies, they are used to construct different modes and upgrade your Service weapon. Looking forward to your next episode. By the way alternate between your abilities and your gun. Whilst your waiting for your gun to rechage use Launch and visa versa.
I finished the base game today. I read everything I could find, watched all videos I found, but I didn't go into the menu to listen to Trenchs hotline stuff. It was too confusing.
About the map (a bit of a backseaty tip): forget it. It’s completely unnecessary. There is navigational signage everywhere. It’s more than enough to get you where you need to be.
@@LIZZgame AWESOME! I do have ONE challenge for you, (If you haven't done it already). "Discover Director Northmore's fate". It can be figured out just playing the base game. All the hints/clues are there. But most never figure it out, because you really have to pay attention. The answer is truly horrifying. Most can go through the game never figuring it out. But everyone from Ahti to Trench and others make references to him in the game, or just straight up mention him, if you're paying attention. The foundation DLC has a lot of notes from Northmore that hint at things. But ultimately, even without playing the DLC, you can find the answer in the main game if you just keep exploring. GOOD LUCK!

I'm convinced this game came about because someone from Remedy had to deal with a governmental body and thought "I wish I could trash the place!"
