Damn they were such a great band, and Darren is just on another level. I feel honored to have had the opportunity to see them live several times before he split. If there is band you love, don't wait to see them live. Lightning in a bottle doesn't happen very often, or for very long
100%! I saw them open for Mae back in 2003 or 04 at The Engine Room here in Houston. I think they just had the one EP out with Reset on it at the time. I never was the biggest fan personally, but I knew I had to get footage of this while I had the chance! Thanks for watching!
@@huejass9130, true, but Darren King did the drumming, percussion and much of the programming for Play Dead. He left after the album came out, but before the tour. Which is still kind of a dick move IMO.
Same with Roy. It’s such a shame because Play Dead was getting some mainstream attention but the two best parts about their live show left for the tour.
Darren King is awesome. If you ever get to see Mutemath live and can be there to hear and feel the beat, it's a whole other level! Huge fan of these guy's sound.
Not entirely sure they use click tracks considering there live performances are so varied in sound. either way highest caliber band of our generation :) love this video and Mutemath!
SO much talent within every memeber. Watch the bassist at 1:30-that's crazy! and Paul is simply incredible. This is what God given talent and decades working at that gift look and sound like.
Darren KIng, second to no man.....the mans a marvel. Valerie Franco is chasing him like shes after his crown mind, now thats a woman who can drum....and heres the man. absolute business.....beat-master K....
Thanks, I just discovered it today. A friend turned me onto them in 2008 and I have been a fan ever since. Perhaps you could help me with something. It seems there was a song on the cd she loaned that I have not been able to find on any of the cd's I have purchased. Are you aware of this song?
Yes. I believe it was on an early EP of 5 or so songs. I first saw them perform this live in 2003-04 at The Engine Room here in Houston opening up for another great band, MAE that I was there with a friend to see. They were either giving out these EP's or gave one to us to review. We were blown away by the performance of this live. They had the bass drum up on a full stack of amps and it was insane. I never really followed them after that first EP but performed with them with my former band at the 2013 Whatever Fest and then shot this of them in 2015.
The cd I was loaned was Mutemath 2006. The song was a hidden track. I haven't been able to locate it but i also can't remember the name of the track. I bought 3 copies and its not on any of them.
Did he reference this video specifically? I did a search and I saw some clips from a podcast where he talks about seeing them but it was a few years back. Either way, love it!
Brian Lorenzen Exactly what I thought! I noticed they were gone...I thought that was his thing!? For me, it added to the insane experience that is Darren King - getting to see him walk on stage, sit down, and wrap duck-tape around his head several times so that he could go hard 110% for the WHOLE show. Anyway, I get a little carried away. I've been waiting since their 2012 tour to see them again.....Best live show ever.
+Brian Lorenzen Saw Mutemath last night for the first time...Darren most definitely taped headphones around his head as soon as he walked on stage :) One of the best shows I've ever seen, absolutely incredible.
I believe he made the change just for the sake of this vid. I could be wrong. All I know is, I'm going to miss him immensely. Hard to envision MM without him.
TODD!! I see you mention in the description seeing MM open for Mae way back in the day! That would've been SUCH a good show. Let's see if we can get that again!!! You know Mae is releasing new stuff again, i hope! it's slowly being released on Tooth and Nail's (record label) UA-cam PAGE!!!!
Daniel Carlin I know this is 2 years late but through a lot of time and research I found out what it is. It’s a 20 inch Zildjian Armand Ride. If you watch MM’s Armistice documentary you’ll hear it better then on this video.
+George B I understand that. Ive seen them live and played with them several times. I know for sure that he goes hard on other songs , but this is my favorite song so I posted it.

Just when I thought I couldn't appreciate Darren King's drumming anymore than I already did........
What a freaking beast. MuteMath isn't the same without Darren.
It's not even MuteMath anymore :( the live shows kinda suck since he left.
Play dead is still a fire album tho. Paul meany is insanely talented

Darren is one of my favorite groove drummers of all time.
Darren King is awesome. If you ever get to see Mutemath live and can be there to hear and feel the beat, it's a whole other level! Huge fan of these guy's sound.
Have you ever witnessed anybody else feel drumming like Darren does? Because I sure haven’t
I swear, the freaking click track must follow HIM.
Not entirely sure they use click tracks considering there live performances are so varied in sound. either way highest caliber band of our generation :) love this video and Mutemath!
Haha! You’re so right
No click
What a groove.... this is how a drummer must be. Great video!
+Emiliano Fantuzzi Thanks so much! Follow @toddspoth on social to see more!

Love that big grin towards the end. What a fantastic presence!
One of the absolute best of the best of the best. Miss you already, Darren.
My favorite drummer
I've seen MM live 3 times, and got to meet him recently in Athens GA. Such an awesome guy and unique drummer.
definitely my favorite MM song!!
This gave me the chills! Best song ever! We want more!
Excellent video!! Can't wait to see them in September
that drum tone. arghhhhhh.....
Just saw they playing in Knoxville - TN. Amazing song and this guy is incredible!
man this guys freaking talented.!!!
What a nice footage!
Darren KIng, second to no man.....the mans a marvel. Valerie Franco is chasing him like shes after his crown mind, now thats a woman who can drum....and heres the man. absolute business.....beat-master K....
Totally badass!
Darren King with ear monitors!? I thought I would never see the day! The taped on headphones were sorta his signature.
+Moog167 At his show last night in Minneapolis he still did it!
huge fans!
It was so cool to see this performance live. I made sure to only drink two that night so I would remember it.
It was a great performance! Glad to share it live with ya! It'll always be here if you have too many and forget what it was like!

Ah gotcha. I thought you were talking about this song, Reset. Not familiar with the rest of their catalog sadly.
My drummer Hero!!!!!
Bill Burr brought me here. One of the best rabbit holes I've been down
Did he reference this video specifically? I did a search and I saw some clips from a podcast where he talks about seeing them but it was a few years back. Either way, love it!
THEY BACK
GOAT
Now we can see his arms!
I DEMAND THE NEW ALBUM.
+Daniel Blanco Will be released in October :)
Gob, from Arrested Development.
Has he graduated from taping headphones around his skull...? Bold move.

does anyone know which rudiment he was play?
at 3:00 when someone just yells his name! yaaaaas.
How did that water bottle not spill haha
🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
god damn.
I would like to point your attention to the Lady in the pinkish top you can see at 5:15
She did not expect such escalative drumming :D

Excited for new MAE! Will definitely see them when they come through Houston again!
Awesome!! Can't wait either, I'm on the east coast. Maybe a Charlotte or ATL show. The dates are on their instagram, if you hadn't seen by now!
Feeeeeeeeeelllllll. #mrking
With authoritay.
I love this so much! Do you happen to have anymore footage from this concert?
What kind of ride is that?
Daniel Carlin I know this is 2 years late but through a lot of time and research I found out what it is. It’s a 20 inch Zildjian Armand Ride. If you watch MM’s Armistice documentary you’ll hear it better then on this video.
Paul Kellerman from Prison Break killin' it on drums.
I think one of those sticks ended up in somebody's eye.
2:28
it's so weird seeing his ears haha
Nice, Keith Moon's old trick of pouring water over the drum skins
Theospeak1 what does that do other than spray and look cool?
this song doesnt even show half his skill, watch blood pressure or typical live if u want his full 'craziness'
what are those toms he has? hadn't seen those yet on his kit
Remo Rototom. No shell, tunable.
2:50 inhuman....
Nice Fill.. played with a single pedal
this song doesnt even show half his skill, watch blood pressure or typical live if u want his full 'craziness'
+George B I understand that. Ive seen them live and played with them several times. I know for sure that he goes hard on other songs , but this is my favorite song so I posted it.
yea alright fair enough :))
this song doesnt even show half his skill, watch blood pressure or typical live if u want his full 'craziness'
+George B I agree this was pretty basic for past Darren King
