Description:
The first UV-Max of this level, because the only other person to do this level ignored a cyberdemon even though they frequently fall down and are easily dealt with in such cases.
Lost two attempts at the final fight. The first one I took 6 mancubi fireballs in about 1-2 seconds trying to push through that did 336 damage before I got killed by a 7th hit. I could have taken between 48-384 damage from those 6 hits, so a bit unlucky with 336. I didn't feel bad about it, forgot to pick up some health vials anyways, not that they are necessary of course.. Then the second attempt which I did on the same day as this successful run some similar stuff happened, but I had enough health to grab the last megasphere. But max health doesn't really last long when you take a completely random cyberdemon rocket. I couldn't see the rocket past all the corpses so I didn't even notice it before it hit me. I guess after the luck I had an hour into map 15 I had to pay for it here.
Sunder map16 route is mostly done, the map is really long and a completed run should take somewhere around 2 hours, hopefully just under it. It's not looking as bad as I thought it would be, I think the last sections are easier than the final fight of map32, but on average it's more difficult and it's significantly longer. I've had ammo issues in practice so I'm afraid of running low near the end as well.
Comments about the run:
Went mostly as expected with exception of the final fight.
For the final fight I took a lot of damage again trying to get through the mancubi.
Then I nearly died when I had to push through the cacodemons, didn't have much choice as my ammo was running low and I didn't want to take damage going for cells on the left side.
Nearly died at the very end to a surprise cyberdemon, somehow I just didn't see him and I had to just go for it as I was afraid I'd get hit by something else or bump into a wall if I backtracked.

I honestly find a map like this more impressive than most new games that come out these days. What talent and creative vision to come up with something like this that has its basis with an engine from an old sequel that came out in 1994!
With WADs like Sunder and Eviternity(and more) plus mods for this 1994 game will never get stale.
With this rate, Zero Master is going to do a UV-Max run of Sunder MAP30, even before it's designed

Zero Master is always so incredibly calm even when he is at critical health
I LOVE the design of this map. It looks like somewhere that actually could exist in real life, but with thousands of demons! Sure, Sunder's incredible abstract designs are gorgeous, but this less abstract map really takes the cake, IMO.
My only complaint at all is that it is slightly too dark for me. I had a tough time seeing what was going on in the plaza outside of the mansion.
@@sgtcoffman Fair point. I've played a few WADs that I had to tinker with them to be able to see correctly. Usually, you can change the brightness and/or contrast settings within the game to fix it. I'd also check your monitor's color and brightness settings to see if that helps.

Best way to start my Saturday morning. Wake up, brush teeth, look at my phone, notice new Zero Master Sunder video --> Grab my coffee and enjoy the next hour+
Ingenuously clever strategies. Especially in the maze. The routing is pretty linear overall based on the map design, but many of the line-def skips and fight tactics I haven't seen anyone else execute/implement. Wouldn't expect anything less from you. 👍
My all-time favorite Sunder map. It's so good to finally see a full Demo of this monster of a map. If anyone can do it it's definitely you. This will be very fun to watch. Congrats on the run!
It's really weird watching ZM do these. I associate him more with iwad speedruns, so just seeing him burn through new Sunder is surreal. How many linedefs will be skipped in 19?

The midi is called "aorta", and it was originally for some kind of doom project called "panophobia". It's yet another standout pairing in sunder. The hearbeat effect (when the soundfont works properly) is amazing.
Oh and the run was good too.
Anymore awesome midis from that project? This is one of my favorites I've seen in doom.

A 2 hour UV max for a single map is just crazy! For comparison that's as long as it took Starduster to complete all of Scythe!

Yeah it helps that I can do attempts for one level while I work on the route for the next level which is a different experience, so it's easy to keep motviation up which means I get things done :D

That last fight was god dang terrifying to watch. I knew he would make it, but still was flinching and squirming the whole time!
Fantastic run man, I was really looking forward to this one! You dispatched those archies and cybers in the hedge maze like a BOSS!! Very methodical and precise! The final platforming area was extremely impressive -- so many people choke in that area.
Also, I love the music in this level...
1. because it was written specifically FOR this level and
2. because it's one of the longest midi's I've ever heard in a doom wad before it repeats.
EDIT: I stand corrected, the music wasn't written for this level but is awesome none the less.
This map is still the first one to use this Midi as the project it was originally composed for was never released.

The layout of this map really reminds me of some old Invasion maps, humourously not all that different in gameplay either - with all the constant monster-teleporters. : - )

This map is really masterpiece of level design! And the gameplay is really impressive. I can't imagine that anyone can play doom 2 like this without TAS.

Seriously this guy makes me wish i was good at games. Ever since i saw doom 1 on release ive loved it. Wish ID spent more time with modding scene but thank the all powerfull mind of our time John Carmack for releasing source code

The design and arquitecture of this level is honestly off the charts! I wonder how much time did it take for the mappers to finish it, it's so complex and full of detail.

everything except for the start and the end is no problem, but because of those parts it's more difficult than map 15 and 31 at least, so the garden part is a walk in the park :)

Serious question for Zero Master: Are there any Doom maps you actually can't beat? (Like legit maps, not silly joke maps or whatever)
At around 28:50 you did a linedef skip right by hugging the wall in the maze to hit the first switch, so that hellknights, revenants and demons don't teleport in but only the archviles and cyberdemons? I noticed that and when you return to that switch you cross that linedef so all the monsters teleport but not have to worry about archviles and cybers because they are already dead. Great strategy 👊
I wonder if it's worth putting in multiple triggers or oddly angled triggers, to force sequence. It's not like gazebo isn't watching.
Nah... more fun watching Zero's crazy routes and setups. :D
@@T3sl4 It is lol. same as map 16 Whispers of the Gnarled King. The final battle there can be made much easier. When riding up the elevator just don't step of onto the final room but instead jump back on the stairs that also go to the same room, but jump high enough so you will be above the linedef on the stairs and also when stepping of the elevator into the room that will trigger the final fight. When doing that you will have a better chance to win.
I only play casually, and the garden is easily the most frustrating fight in the whole map for me. The next big fight after that is a close second. Once I found a good killing route (pretty much the same as yours), the final fight isn't that bad.

Yeah, low ammo will quite an issue in latter Sunder levels, and especially in MAP19 (Highly likely that you will leave Cathedral arena with little to no ammo)
I beg to differ ;D. Ammo isn't super tight in that map as long as you don't waste much and rely on infighting more often than not.
@@kinetic03 In general around map, yes. In cathedral arena - no. In this arena ammo is very tight even if you relay on infighting.
Or maybe it's mine flashbacks how I savescumed my way through Sunlust, entered this arena with almost full backpack of ammo and left it with barely any ammo at all
@@HmmHmm-ve7ou I happen to be running the map, there's more than enough ammo for the fight, can exit the fight easily with full ammo across the board. I assume we're talking about the cathedral fight with the switches you can hit to spawn bees and cybers in
What is this source port DSDA-Doom? Why aren't you using GZDoom or PrBoom+? I mean, the color scheme and render style is awkward here: pinkies do not look right unless they are really close to you. Can you explain it?
