Going down to 1% at the end there and then back to max in the blink of an eye was a seriously clenchy moment

Since this map relies so heavily on teleporter ambushes it can be utterly trivialised by not shooting. One of Ribbiks' few demos on the archive is an 11:32 pacifist where he just wanders around pressing switches, encountering exactly 11 out of the 1455 monsters lol

This 2009 map feels like it deserves a few moments of appreciation.
That 1% -> 200% -> 5% at the end was rough! Well done surviving that!
Shows how fast health can drain in Doom. Doomguy in the best circumstances is only as durable as a Caco, which is hardly a middle-weight in the enemy roster.
That final fight was a rollercoaster! Those two near death moments were nuts, what a clutch run!

Does that building lock up with you in it? I didn't notice. If not, pinkies definitely can't walk stairs if Imps can't, so maybe a quick backpedal and then use those stairs leading toward that 1st Supercharge?

Man, the final fight of this map is a real ball buster. Even with quicksaves I struggled to beat it.

I really love the look of this map. The red sky, the dark structures with the torches in the cages. Kind of makes me think of Morgoth’s fortress of Angband from The Silmarillion. Awesome stuff. ^-^

That final fight was nervewrecking! When you jumped (or maybe blown up by an Archvile) over the invulnerability and the screen turned red, I couldn't see how you'd make it. 🙈

Doom over Gym lmao -- nice work man, this makes me want to attempt the map. The cacodemon spawn situation was pretty weird, like enemies were forgotten for that perfectly good arena.
Visually, this map is fantastic. You really catch a glimpse of what post 2019 Sunder would become.
Gameplay wise, well... I'm not particularly fond of fighting hordes of monsters in spaces the size of sardine cans.
That jump over invul got me stunned. Great job and best wished for upcoming map.
Holy fucking shit. That final fight was a FIGHT. Even knowing it was a successful run, that was incredibly tense. That recovery tho.
This is one of the most aesthetic maps of old Sunder, right up there with Pale Monument and Precarious. And it's equally as merciless.
The music pick is awesome, brings Paul Judd to the limelight. The man can compose just as well as he can code.
What if Hell said "Here's a super shotgun." but the baron said "But you hated sigil so you're going run out of rockets and slow roll 25+ barons with it."
You don't need the gym. You're trigger finger is doing enough of a workout to compensate.
At least you don't have to kill them with the normal shotgun. I think that would qualify as cruel and unusual punishment

Continuing my thoughts on sunder maps
Map 09
Not only is this my favourite sunder map, it’s my second favourite map in the history of doom (only being beaten by Plutonia’s map 12). The entire level is just incredible, the music is some of the best I’ve heard in my life, the structure and visuals are just immaculate. Nearly every fight is one I can remember off the top of my head. The final one is such a intense fight, even having teleports. Other fights such as the double cyber and pinky hallway are super memorable, my fav map out of old sunder for sure (however I’ll have to play the new levels to see if it remains my fav sunder level). While it isn’t that difficult, especially in comparison to the last map, it’s still not one you can breeze through

Amazing run! I believe the jank of this level comes from the fact that Insane Gazebo designed a lot of Sunder (or at least this level) with freelook in mind and didn't expect people to play without it, I imagine this level is a lot easier without the autoaim and being able to look where you're jumping lol
Given that Spider Masterminds are used so well in Sunder... you should do an Enemies Tier List exclusively for Sunder. See which enemies are the most dangerous. :v

That double clutch at the end holy shit indeed you actually went down to 1hp before getting that invom for like 2 frames just for the spider mastermind to take it mostly away again nicely saved!

actually, decino's strat of playing really hard maps before gym is genius because he pumps himself with natural adrenaline before a workout

decino's palms were sweaty, knees weak, arms were heavy from slaughtering all of these monsters with his bombs, forget he ever attempted anything 'cause he's calm and steady
I believe that final cheek-clenching fight would count as what Alex Ferguson called 'squeaky bum time'
one of my favorites maps in Og 2009 Sunder the good old mighty The Cage and you might ask why I love this map for one is map level design it is claustrophobic like a true cage which remids of plutoinia second the difficulty is challenging but fair with a good planing a great strategy no problemes at all with bit a pratices you can beat this map and I really like the music it's calm and yet atmosferic becuse of the claustrophobic nature of the map. Once again amazing playthrough as Always.
JEEESUS!!!! I had no idea it was possible to jump over an item like with the invuln at 37:58! Was that an archvile jump? That was such a horribly clutch fight!!
Edit: looking back at it on slow motion I see that you even went to 1% at some point the exact instant you grabbed the mega! Literally one tick later and it was game over! Dear Lord!!
Don't have time to watch this right now, but ill say this much. It took me 14 attempts to beat this map. About four of those were the beginning. Nearly every other death was because I fell off. I played this map slowly and was successful. The music is so somber but calming to listen to. I could easily listen for hours. Elevation and different sized floors can also mess with your perception of your surroundings.

I recently went through Hell Revealed in Brutal Doom and I'm currently going through Speed of Doom. I was planning on doing Sunder in Brutal Doom sometime but after watching this I'm having second thoughts. These maps are insane.
I'd love to see you doing Speed of Doom sometime, some of the maps are incredibly fun, especially the secret levels.

I feel like this is the map where Sunder turns into a chore to play as a mapset.
This map was the start for 9 or so year old me into custom doom maps/wads. Not many people like it but I LOVE this map and have remembered it dearly, the atmosphere, the music, and that traumatizing last fight. Glad to see decino take it down

Seems to be 18 revenants shared between those three cages. Probably meant to be 6 revenants per cage if they didn't share a teleporter. 6-6-6 is the kind of reference I expect in a Doom WAD.

The way I got myself to stay on track with going to the gym was to start going early in the morning before work. It was miserable at first, waking up at 5am every day, but before long, I was automatically waking up at that time anyway. Since I don't just want to sit at home and wait to go to work, I just go out of habit now

The Cage is probably unironically my favorite map in Sunder. All the maps are good and the new maps are their own flavor of great (Archives of the Technomancer is pretty amazing most of the time) but The Cage just has that extra atmospheric factor for me. From the first impression, the claustrophobic catwalks, the more spacious causeways, I think it comes out swinging then paces itself perfectly
@decino did you notice around 37:55 or 38:00 mark you dropped to 1% health before picking up the megasphere and more chip damage ensued?! Lol what a crazy final fight! Props to you!
