I got one about 3 years ago. It's another one of my favorite pieces of camping gear (we seem to have a lot of the same shtuff). Perfect rice every time without babysitting it. Added bonus: it takes 15-20 minutes to cook rice in this pot...which is almost exactly as long as a Trangia burns a bit over 1 oz. of fuel = no chance of burning your rice. It also steams really well, for anything you would want that for at camp (buns, dumplings, pasta, eggs, veggies...) and is slow, but works as a strainer. Take care, Ernie.

We hackers in Asia love this product as rice is the main component of our food. I cooked many rice dishes with this (plus a pan) such as fried Chinese rice and Indian biryanies.

I am considering one of these, and I love to cook Arroz Con Pollo with the Sazzon and Peas! Don’t know if this would work with this setup, but try putting a “dime” coin in the bottom (between the pot and liner) and as the water simmers you should hear the coin rattle. As the water gets close to empty or gone, it will stop making the noise and you know your done. I do this when I steam tamales. Thanks for the great video.

BIG THANK YOU! I'm a Filipino and rice is staple to us even in the outdoors and I have to admit that its a challenge to cook rice using a titanium pot. This definitely changes things.

Thanks for this step by step recipe with the Ti6300. I just ot mine. I try to eat as much paleo as possible, but love rice and discovered sprouted brown rice when I lived in Japan. It is both more nutritious as well as easier to digest than white rice. Slightly sweet, nutty flavor.

Cooking rice ( real rice ) on the trail was always a pain. So I used a Bakepacker for several years as a steamer / cooker. Then a couple of years go Mass Drop ( now Drop ) had this cooked on there web site at a reduced cost. I got one and it was one of the smarter moves I have made. The nice thing is that it's not just for rice , it's truly multi function.

I put a couple of ounces of water into the outer pot, just enough to reach the bottom of the inner pot. This speeds up the process so you don't have wait for the water to drain through the tiny holes in the steamer pot.

Thanks for the demonstration - really nice piece of gear even though I think it is a nice to have more than a must have. Rice dishes can be nicely cooked in whatever simple pot without burning in or other hassles on the trail as well as at home, but for having little bit more comfort one can use such a thing. Still it needs sometimes some attention, as you nicely demonstrated, so it is comfort wise still quite behind an electric rice cooker or your high end Thermomix 😁
I really love rice dishes on trails and travels and prefer rice over pasta due to the small packaging volume and because rice doesn't need so much water for preparing as spaghetti & co. But, as said, rice can be cooked in any pot, no special equipment required. Same with pasta, couscous or whatever else.

What a great cooker it looks like. I just ordered the Keith Titanium Ti6300 Multifunctional Cooker. I will be doing my testing soon. I love your recipe and will be trying it out. I would love to see if soup would do grat in this. I think also if you have your rice and spice with a can of salmon pored on top cook it and make a great meal. Thanks for all you share and do.

For a good low summer I use an alcohol stove with a simmer ring. It can go really low with no trouble. With gas stoves, I’ve seen warnings against running them at low for too long, probably because it’s first stage of burning becomes more or less its only stage, making thin parts inside the top of the burner go really hot.

That pot and your demo are a great team up. I would think it would be perfect for Spicy Italian Rice with Sprimp and Onions, stuffed into a Green Pepper with Crushed Tomatoes as the liquids. Those who eat meats it would be wonderful for Spicy Italian Meatloaf stuffed Green Peppers. That would be so cool on the trail say the first night after a fresh resupply.

  • @msilverhammer
    @msilverhammer 4 роки тому

    Ernie,
I have a few comments and questions...
I notice that you wrote that rice, or arroz is not a good carbohydrate conscious choice, and probably the beans, or peas too.
I would agree, as my research shows that most people who are eating "Keto Friendly" foods, try to avoid, or at least limit any consumption of white rice, or any high glycemic index foods, in an effort to avoid spiking their insulin levels.
    1. My research shows that brown or wild rice may be more "Keto Friendly", but what do you think, and would those types of rice work in the recipe? I guess one would have to experiment.
Living in Florida, I have a ton of Latin or Caribbean markets and foods available to purchase, and I typically use Jasmine Rice, but again, try to limit my consumption of rice, white potatoes, white bread, and try to instead eat greens, and cruciferous vegetables like spinach, kale, broccoli, brussels sprouts, and cauliflower, along with foods that are mainly fat and protein.
    2. Since your channel name has the word "Paleo" in the title, what would you say is the difference, or similarity between "Paleo" or "Keto Friendly" foods?
    3. Since "Keto" based diets rely on fats or ketones for energy, rather than carbohydrates, or glycogen, what foods do you recommend for arduous or strenuous backpacking trips?
It seems that the current science is telling us that "carbo" loading is not the way to go,
    Thanks!

What's the diameter of the inner pot, will a small 110g gas canister fit inside? A trangia spirit burner, probably will, as it's quite a bit narrower, right?
I have an Evernew knockoff burner that fits inside my 450ml cup, that fits inside my other 900ml pot with locking lid (the titanium version of the Stanley Adventure Camp cookset) from Lixada with a cross pot stand, windshield & folding spork. 2oz alcohol fuel bottle & lighter all fit inside. Bushbox titanium folding stove knockoff fits inside the bag. Sweet piece of kit.
Tho if I put the small fuel canister inside, my cup doesn't fit, but I have a larger 900ml cup/pot to rehydrate my meals in - no plastic touching my food when hot. BPA-FREE? What is BPA for, what did they replace it with? BPF, BPS...?

I understand that’s not feasible for campers that go very light, as for me I will stick with regular pots for cooking rice or Can Cooker.
