I've seen people using Gloom rangee with Theif Rouge and hiding every turn with the bonus action to re stealth. 😮 Seemed a bit 🧀 to ne so I'm going Ranger Assasian 😊
Your channel has always been great! I love making multi-class builds myself more than anything in dnd. Putting out a baldur's gate video for release was a high intelligence move.
Found your channel thanks to the algorithm. Looks good, highly knowledgable, admits mistakes, is humble about it and releases a follow up video to clarify things. What an absolute chad of a human being. Subscribed.
This is it! Youre gonna pass 100k subs for sure! Dude I’ve been watching since like 24-30k subs and this is by far my favorite UA-cam channel, I really hope this bauldergate content continues to rocket the channel where it deserves to be
As someone who has no idea about D&D i havn't found another youtuber who can exxplain this stuff as simple as you. I hope you do more specific build guides which people can just follow along while explaining what the character is meant to do in combat with his toolkit. Great work so far!
While I understand why ya gave us the heads up (the whole "I might have this wrong"), I truly appreciate the fact you take responsibility to it and try to accommodate the in accuracies. Thank you Kobe. P.s. respect for stepping out of your comfort zone and talking about video games. I don't mind the video game is a reflection of our beloved 5e, doesn't matter. Good job bud. Keep it up. Oh and I have disadvantage on my initiative roll :( clearly I'm at the bottom of order 😂
For future builds I think everyone should know if you take 1 lvl of wizard you can learn any wizard spell you have spell slots for, so if your like 11 lvls cleric 1 lvl wizard you can u cast 6th lvl spells you have learned as a wizard
So the problem with dipping into 1 level of Wizard for access to the entire Wizard spellbook is you only get a certain number of Wizard spellslots depending on your INT. You can prepare any Wizard spell and cast a Wizard spell of any level you have access to from your other class, but you're limited to those small amount of Wizard spell slots and all the Wizard spells will be based off INT. So it's best for just Utility if you want to do it (Buffs or movement abilities basically) Though it does work well with Bard as they both get Wizard spell slots, the wizard spells will still use INT though so you'll need both INT + Charisma. A fun Build I use is combining Divination Magic Wizard with a Lucky Lore Bard. You can basically just constantly mess with rolls and buff your party's rolls while nerfing the enemy rolls. Keep in mind though, it's best to make an NPC party member the Bard as you can't inspire yourself. (That's unlocked at level 14 but 12 is the max) The divination ability Portent allows you to straight up replace rolls, so you can make sure a spell hits and force the enemy to be unable to save. It's very "IMportent"
I've never played D&D before. I found your channel because I was looking for build advice before BG3 release and your channel is perfect! I loved using your builds in the game and I love how thorough and passionate you are about making them. I would love to see you do more BG3 builds!
Adding gameplay that plays while he's explaining the build would probably really improve video quality, especially for people new to the whole system of BG3 and the base of it that is 5e. Instead of having to listen, process, understand and then visualise it all in sequence, the video would help you do multiple things at the same time by showing you, that way it's easier to visualise and also to process it, since you see what he's talking about.
Your Ultimate Skill Monkey build has been SO FUN. Especially since there's SO much reactivity, particularly for Bards in this game, and I pretty much never fail dice rolls on ANYTHING. Also, the damage is still surprisingly good! I'm actually the hardest hitter of all my companions, so I should probably multiclass my companions as well so we can all hit like trucks.
Think my favorite thing about bg3 coming out is all the d&d creators it’s introduced me to, including you! I’ve been leveling Druid and barbarian for my bearbarian and I’ve got you to thank for it! Bummer about the wild shape limitations (and primal strike bug) and so far with my testing ive found the only feat that seems to half work while in wild shape is tavern brawler (increases chance to hit in wild shape, doesnt increase damage tho) and that kinda sucks but the increased accuracy and single attribute point make it SUPER worth it imo, makes my sabre tooth tiger form never miss (95% has been the lowest chance to hit ive seen him have on an attack since its wild)
Funny that i get the notification for D4 liking my comment and immediately i see everything i complained about has since been fixed by larian, i dont think ive ever known a dev team so kind tbh
Oath of Devotion Paladin can use Sacred Weapon to add his Charisma modifier to attack rolls. Combining it with Reckless Attack it could help mitigate the Frenzy penalty and make Berserker still viable.
I have been using your fighter/warlock/sorc build on bg3 main playtrough. I am still chapter one but its super fun and efective! My dnd senior shit on the fighter part but little did he know! XD cant wait be able to pick the sorc levels later on!
If you take tavern brawler as a berserker, your strength bonus is added TWICE to your chance to hit and your damage with your bonus action throw attack. Grab some javelines. It's brutal.
There’s also an early magic “fling ring” item that adds 1d4 to your thrown attacks. My Berserker is doing so much damage from throwing enemies into enemies.
If you are in Frenzy, the Enraged throw actually uses the damage dice of whatever weapon you throw as well. So you can just yeet great axes. My favorite will always just to Yeet the goblin you’re fighting at another goblin killing them both though
Colby, I want to thank you so much for your positivity and your insight into making incredibly fun characters! I've never played DnD, but I've always been interested in it and with BG3, its blown me away at how incredible this fantasy world is. Thanks for sharing the class build information because starting new and not wanting to mess up my character was incredibly daunting, and you took away a lot of that stress, which has increased my enjoyment and has made the accessibility of this game easier. I can't wait to see what builds you cook up next!
A video on interesting party combinations would also be a good idea. Maybe split it up into early, mid and late game combos. Since in this game we build an adventuring party rather than a single character.
You can never go wrong with faith&steel as a party concept. Just add a cleric and paladin for the auras and buffs and fill the rest with something you’d like. Preferably someones with also decent AC, or at least in half-plate to fit the aestethic.
I tried out that ultimate blaster build and it was *chef's kiss* so good. Now I'm trying out multiclassing in 5e and BG3 for the first time because of you.
Important caveat for Thief Rogue/Monk; while you can use multiple Flurry of Blows on a turn, as of August 10th you **can't** make two Martial Arts bonus action attacks--it just won't let you. So you can't make two "free" bonus action attacks each turn with this build (though you can Martial Arts + use a weapon's Flourish or Pommel Strike potentially).
You sure? I just tested it the other day and, fair enough, if you do your extra attack straight away, you only have the option to bonus action attack once. But it worked doing it in this order: main weapon attack, bonus action attack, extra main weapon attack, second bonus action attack.
@@Xisoah today is august 10, though. more to the point I don't think either of the two hotfixes since release have included balance changes, mostly just bugfixes
@@life-destiny1196 bug changes can cause other bugs my man. It happens all the time especially on games like league of legends. And yes the OP said on august 10 the guy in correcting said he experienced something a couple days ago when the poster said as of today. Some bug fix could have caused another bug. As there have been multiple hot fixes and it’s a big game to discover new bugs
its says something about larian. I went in knowing nothing about dnd but just yoinked your sorlock spec. And it absolutely blasting in game is a testament to how faithful they tried to be to the tabletop. nice work!
For any caster class dipping one level Storm Sorcerer has been super impactful/tempting. Any leveled spell cast giving you bonus action fly for the turn makes you basically immune to opportunity attacks if anyone ever does make it up to you, and high ground bonuses are so nice that being able to freely (or bonusly?) fly up to high points mid-combat is very handy. Bonus points if you're a warlock that has an invocation for casting a 1st level (or higher) spell at will, because each of those will trigger the flight. Speak with Animals -> fly across a gap is my main way to get my warlock across large gaps.
I'm a long time D&D veteran and my current obsession is with "how big can I make these numbers go", so I've got a build you might want to think about. In my D&D experience, Hand Crossbows are easily the best weapon in the game. They also got a big buff in bg3 because you no longer need crossbow expert. So the build is this: begin with 5 levels of Gloomstalker Ranger (take Archery fighting style, Sharpshooter, and Hunter's mark). Then take 4 levels of Battle Master Fighter (take two-weapon-fighting fighting style and some damaging maneuver, plus ability score increase to dex to give yourself better odds to hit). Finish with 3 levels of Thief Rogue (extra bonus action attack). You won't end up using sneak attack unless an ally is in melee because using a bonus action to hide simply isn't worth it in the DPR calculation (with no magic items, you deal 2d6 + 14 per attack). You open combat by making 7 attacks (action surge for 2 actions to make 4, 2 bonus action attacks, and Gloomstalker attack). You can increase this damage by sacrificing an attack to use Hunter's Mark (which, by the way, is the second best way to get damage in D&D and in bg3. Just make as many attacks as possible). The build is super buffable and does kind of rely on them, since Bless and Faerie Fire are really huge for increasing accuracy (though the Archery fighting style is still crazy good). If you're looking for a complete party comp, I recommend: have a cleric that casts bless, have a wizard that casts enlarge (bonus 1d4 damage per attack when you make 4/turn is a lot), have a Bard or someone with the Mage Initiate: Bard feat cast Faerie Fire (can also use a Light Cleric, but you would then need 2 clerics), you cast Hunter's Mark and also carry around a candle (you can find certain candles to pick up) and dip your weapons in one at the start of combat (once again, 1d4/attack comes out to a lot). There might be a feat that is better than ability score improvement, but honestly the +1 (5%) chance to hit is pretty huge when it comes to this build, since that's your biggest restriction. A few things are bugged at the moment concerning the bonus action attack: They don't take the penalty from Sharpshooter but still apply the damage. They also automatically add your dexterity modifier to damage, so I took defense as my second fighting style and will respec to get the correct one once a patch comes through. Another build that I'll go into less detail on I call the "martial versatility build" and it works like this: start with 3 levels of Warlock for Pact of the Blade (also take Hex), then go into 5 levels of Battle Master Fighter then finish out with 3 levels of College of Swords Bard and a final level into any class to get that 2nd feat. There's also an argument (a strong one) to go Warlock (3) Fighter (3) and Bard (6) to get the upgraded inspiration die, but just note that this path only gets 1 feat. You get to use Flourishes and Maneuvers, making you really versatile in combat. Not to mention invocations are really versatile and you get to use your Charisma for all your attacks AND have some spellcasting built in. Seems interesting to me!
Awwwee, yeah. Keep these vids coming, and let's get you to 100k!! I remember the early days celebrating 5k subs and look at this amazing channel now! Much love, much respect, and lort willing, I'll be around when you hit 200k!! Let's go!
a few other things to note about thief: that extra bonus action can be "converted" into an action with the ilithid ability Mind Sanctuary, that allows actions and bonus actions to be interchangeable. the ultimate support: a level of wizard is broken right now because you can scribe any wizard spell you have slots for, so you don't even need level 10 bard anymore, you go 8 bard 2 wizard, grab the headband of intellect, and you can take 5 support wizard spells, like misty step, dimension door, Longstrider. if you go Divination (which you should) , you can take things like dominate person and hold monster and force them to fail, sure they may only last a round, but that might be long enough to turn the tide. hell, you could even grab disintegrate and wall of fire and become a blaster as well, forcing them to fail disintegrate saves. adding these two together, a strong support could honestly be wizard 2, bard 5 thief 4 cleric 1 . you lose access to higher level spells but theres honestly no really good support spells that high up, and you can use the extra bonus action to set up more buffs or heals, and with Mind Sanctuary, you don't even lose an action really, because you'll still have 2 bonus actions to interchange
Hey man, your suggestion is super helpful! Do you think cleric 1, bard 1, bard 2, wizard 1, and then bard 10 for lore bard would work? For magical secrets? Or is it obselete from wizard being able to learn spells? I'm new so sorry if this is a dumb question
@@Greeksilversheep i would rush lore bard 6 IF theres something specific you want from it, the big ones would be counterspell, mass healing word, and warden of vitality. if you don't need those spells, you can stop at bard 5, and then multiclass. cutting words is so strong and getting it back on a short rest is worth the rush IMO. the wizard multiclass comes in last because by that point it's when you get access to the higher level spells, but that does mean you'll need the Intellect helmet from A1
Heyyo ^^ New Viewer here! I found your channel through the original Top 5 Multiclass Builds Video and just wantd to say thank you for these videos ^^ I am a complete novice to DnD and these videos really helped me to get a first grasp on multiclassing ^^ I really like your videos ^^
My biggest disappointment with this whole game is that they nerfed enchantment wizards by making Hypnotic Gaze once per long rest. Love the content and thanks for the update Colby! You're the man!
Hahaha, ok so an explanation: Every time I level up I think "oh I better pull that build video up again to see what to do at this level", so I've watched it 7 times now since I'm at level 7. I wouldn't be surprised if there are others like me. Great content though! I love the way you explain things and you have a very calming voice.
Thanks for mentioning some of the current issues/glitches in implementation for some of these. I have also heard of some BENEFICIAL glitches, such as some of the glitches for throwing barbarians, and the way some of the sparks stuff works with sneak attack and other multiple-damages-per-action activities (the sparks are erroneously hitting multiple times when multiple damage calculations are happening, such as sneak attack or agonizing blast EB).
You have a lot of knowledge and present it better than most guides and tier list videos for BG3, keep it up, would love to see some more BG3 stuff, but I understand if you eventually run out of content.
Have been waiting for this video. Literally refreshing your youtube page every other day to see if a new baldurs gate 3 update came out. Amazing builds, and even with the small errors very easy to get around them. It felt nice to have a good multiclass build foundation from which i can divert later on into the game and add my own touch.
I would love to see you and Treantmonk. Do a video together going over lessons that wizards of the coast could learn from Baldurs Gate 3 that they could add to the 2024 rules revision. BG3 content is huge right now as is the game itself, so I think this would definitely hit an audience on two fronts.
One thing you have not realized with thieves (I think), is that you can dual wield hand crossbows. So everyone can automatically attack with their bonus action, without the Crossbow Expert feat. Furthermore, unlike with melee dual wield builds, you DO add your dex to the damage without needing a fighting style. Thief rogues with hand crossbows basically have 3 attacks, from the start. The only reason fighters etc are still better, is because haste (and potions of speed) does not give another bonus action. But otherwise, Rogues have the same number of attacks as fighters do, especially if you multiclass into a class with extra attack. And you get sneak attack. And you can hold a shield in your offhand in your melee set, to still get the AC bonus so you will have 20+ AC
@@TheMateuszNH Don't do it. i tried on my paladin char with his build, you are a barbarian with smites, gets tiring, quick. If you wanna hulk smash sure go ahead, but just go full barbarian, is even better at attracking enemy attacks ( Reckless Attack ) than paladin the "holy protector warrior" of the party...
An important mechanic one can build their party around is the wet condition. Wet doubles damage from lightning and cold damage. This can be increased even further with the channel divinity from tempest clerics. Wizards can also still learn 6th level spells, even if you invest 2 levels into cleric, because of the way scrolls were implemented (which is also why wizard 1 dips are insanely good!). You just need a spell slot to cast the spell and you can learn the scroll. So a wizard 10/ tempest 2 could still learn chain lightning, with double damage on wet targets, and maxed out damage (so no rolling!) if you use the channel divinity
The Wildshape options at higher levels are so cool. Owlbear, Sabretooth, the elementals. I think the Ultimate Tank is actually just 12 levels of Moon Druid, no joke. Maybe Druid 11/Barb 1. I can't wait for the next Baldur's Gate video. I really want to see a Colby Swords Bard build 🤩
I don't know if this is happening to anyone else but, when I tried to build the druid/barb, my spellcasting ability changed to charisma. I tested this at character level 3 and as soon as I got my first level in barbarian the spell casting ability changed to charisma and went from being 13 (with my +3 in WIS) to 9 (My charisma is 8). Also, when you wild shape into a bear your base ac becomes 12, but if you have unarmored defense with +3 to constitution it should become 15 since a bear has 10 dex. What is actually happening is: unarmored defense is reducing my ac by 2 while at the same time increasing it by 3 so I end up with 13 ac. I tested this with monk's unarmored defense and the same thing happens.
I've figured out the AC part. Unarmored defense sets your ac to 10+Dex+con/Wis it never stacked with natural defense in 5e. ( Like if you were to build a monk tortle for example you can't just add your wisdom on top of your she'll ac)
Your last video was amazing! I'm running your Sorlock build on my character, the cleric/ bard on Shadowheart, and Astarion is running the rogue/ monk build! Keep up the build videos!
Regarding your sorlock build: Warlock spell levels are a bit unintuitive/bugged at the moment. When you reach sorcerer 3 and gain 2nd level spell slots, the game forces you to upcast your warlock spells to 2nd even though your warlock slots remain at 1st level. Love to see the BG3 content from you btw (tavern brawler build when? ;))
@@tobiasschaffler1498 hey, thank you so much for the tip! Tried it by going great old one instead and problem is fixed! Guess it’s just an issue with the arch fey subclass
you are my new favorite find on UA-cam, honestly BG3 Definitive Edition should make a character based off you. Your videos are so on point and professional, thanks mate. Great content here.
Berserker barbarian doesn't feel that bad, btw. Bonus action attacks do hit quite reliably. 5 lvls in, hits like a truck, refuses to die, very fun to play :)
Yeah I feel the same. But I didn't found the changes for the berserker bonus attack in the changelog and there is no source for the information. Sounds like a bug to me.
@@svensonsen1572 I had no idea it existed, I cant find any tooltip for it ingame and honestly I was very surprised to hear about it because Karlach is one of my strongest members just wrecking everything.
@@svensonsen1572 You actually have to inspect the Frenzied Strike action, then inspect the Frenzied Strain on that tooltip to see the details where it stated that it adds a stacking penalty until the end of your Frenzy.
I picked up the Cleric/Bard as main character and it is amazing, and I also multiclassed all my companions based on your ideas! Thank yo so much for that video, that was the most valuable content on BG3 I have seen on youtube.
There's a Halberd in Act 2 that synergyses super well with Polearm Master. Also, if you're doing a nova build (i've done this with a gloomstalker/assassin astarion), there's a elixir that gives you a action and 5 temp hit points every time you kill something. Pop a potion of speed and you can destroy most of a group. Especially if you're using the right gear, like a helmet that gives you higher critical hit range while obscured, a ring that makes your next attack a critical after you kill something per long rest, and hand crossbows with bonuses while hiding.
@@brendanmystery Nova is maximum damage in a single round bny burning any resource you have (including those that requires long rest to be replenished, for example), while the opposite of that is DPR (Damage per round) where you spend as little as possible resources, or the resources that are readily available and are abundant to output a consistent damage pressure.
Ultimate blaster player here. Absolutely amazing build. Finished my first playthrough last night with it and it was just wrecking the whole way. My favorite magic item for the build was a set of gloves that removed disadvantage from melee spell casting. Between those, storm sorc fly, and having a 24 AC in the endgame thanks to the fighter start, this was a caster who couldn't care less if a "scary melee" target tried to "lock me down". Thanks for the build Colby!
Could you elaborate on the build in the mid to late game? Warlock slots are bugged - they can't be used to create sorcery points while you still have sorcerer slots of higher level. Does that mess up the whole build?
Used your videos heavily to build my party thank you for the great content and adding to the amazing experience that is BG3! Excited for your next vid!
Hi Colby! I'm new to your channel and I've been WAITING for an update from you about your last multiclass builds video. It's been so helpful to beginners like me. I'm very new to D&D and BG3 is kinda my gateway into that, so I had no idea what class or build to go for. I stumbled upon your video by accident and decided to follow your sorlock/fighter build for my first playthrough. I'm already 50hrs into the game and currently at level 5 and my character is so strong thanks to you! I hope you make more BG3 guides. Cheers :D
Colby I really appreciate your builds they are amazing , my wife started out making the build the Holy Warrior you recommended but since it has changed, she does not understand from this video how to respec the Holy Warrior. Last time you told us exactly what to take in step by step form. Would you be able to lay it out again for the revised edition step by step? What do we exactly take from Level 1 through 12 ? We are both a little confused since the change. Thanks alot for all you do.
that's why i personally prefer written guides in general, it's much easier to look up or change. short summary of original build: race/background PYF class barbarian 16 str 14 con 14 dex 2h weapon, med armor lvl 2: always use reckless attack lvl 3: berserker (because no penalties for reckless attack) lvl 4: great weapon master lvl 5: barbarian lvl 6: go to wither and respec for 100g, so you get 16 str 14 con 14 cha, 12 dex. repeat berserker build, now skill paladin, pyf subclass. lvl 7: paladin divine smite + out of combat spells like cure wounds, get great weapon fighting. lvl 8: respec again, keep barb at lvl 3 now and put the rest in paladin changed build: class barbarian 16 str 14 con 14 dex 2h weapon, med armor lvl 2: use reckless attack [when you miss, the game asks if you want to and generally, you do; no point in activating it manually, though, as you don't need advantage for other things, like a rogue does] lvl 3: wildheart [because there are penalties for reckless attack after all] lvl 4: polearm master [or just keep great weapon master; the sussur greatsword's silence-on-hit makes up for all the benefits of using any of the mediocre polearms at this point in the game, imo] lvl 5: wildheart lvl 5 lvl 6: paladin lvl 1, pyf subclass lvl 7: respec: 16 str, 14 con, 14 cha, 12 dex, 2 levels barbarian, rest paladin; divine smite + out of combat spells like cure wounds, great weapon fighting. lvl 8: either barbarian wildheart or stick to paladin lvl9+: more paladin
My D&D group fizzled as quickly as it started, but I’ve been enjoying BG3! I’m glad you’re doing BG3 videos so I have more to be invested in, always loved your build videos since finding them.
Been here for the dnd content but also appreciating the BG3 content - must take a bunch of unseen work to actually get in and research and test this stuff! Your dedication is much appreciated
I wish he shared the build info on the updated builds so we know exactly when to throw levels into where. Especially the ninja update. That's very important considering you change both subclasses
Agreed. Would love to see a more details revisit to Rogue-based multi-classing builds Rogue-Thief/Open-Palm-Monk & Rogue-Assassin/Gloomstalker-Ranger maybe??? Love to see you dive into that more. Rogue's def my fav!
I love your intricate knowledge of 5e. And as someone new to dnd and being really excited about BG3, I would love to learn more from you in the form of BG3 content. I know that is a bit of a departure from your regular content so of course do what’s in your heart, but I hope you are able to ride the BG3 train for a little bit at least. The multi class builds you gave are phenomenal, and I would love to see more builds from you even if they’re not “OP X build” and just “RP X” builds that are pretty strong or neat that can take advantage of BG3 mechanics that differ slightly from 5e. Anyway I know this is an essay but good luck to you, and you are awesome!
I love this channel and your approach to builds, and I'm really glad you got more viewers now that BG3 is out. Hopefully they will stay for the rest of it too. Stay awesome =)
I'm so glad you made this video! Congrats on the previous one being so popular (RIP Bladesinger 2.0 video) and I for one would love to see an occasionally shorter video or even a Short on any new build ideas you may have for BG3. Great job as always, my brother in Bladesinging!
Moon Druid being pretty much unable to benefit from any other class feature is a huge bummer, but it is still a powerhouse of a class, especially when you unlock multiattack and Owlbear form. Owlbear form is like a flying wrecking ball or AOE and CCs it's jsut insane fun.
Unfortunately very few feats or tadpole power work with wildshapes, and I haven't found a single item so far that buffs wildshapes. Hope they make some changes for it since it's so fun to play.
Always wanted to try D&D but never have, I'm in love with BG3 and love the fact that it allowed me to discover your channel, the way you explain and if I'm honest your tone of voice (good god) is so helpful, thank you and keep them coming!
I found that the ultimate blaster could be altered to add 2 levels in to warlock to snag the extra feat instead of the action surge and shield dip. The reason being that the bg3 campaign has been fairly generous and supportive of unarmoured options. Meaning that you don’t really fall that far behind for staying without any armor or shield proficiencies. You do however miss out on quite a bit of utility and even damage when using medium armor as fewer of those have passives that help casters but you also can’t make use of the defense fighting style unless using armor. So it just felt a little weird wasting so much equipment potential for just action surge.
For me the problem is my sorlock doesn't get hit that much. I am at mid Act 2 and my fighter sorlock has 23 AC without buff. Even the toughest enemy at Act2 can't kill it. (I put him against a lvl9 mini boss to test, it took the boss 5 turns to kill him with me not healing at all). So I think it is a bit overkill for having such high def, on the other hand I think I could use more accuracy on my EB.
@@tarotaro6933 I ended up at around 19 armor class in act 2 using cloth gear. And while that’s clearly not as high as could be achieved with medium armor and a shield it came with a chest piece that granted me plus 2 to spell save Dc and it had a free action that granted me mage armor (which was how I was sitting at 19). This granted me the flexibility of having an extra spell slot per long rest and could now take a different spell where I would have needed to take mage armor. Things like that were why I made the aforementioned adjustment. Also pact weapon ended up being a small but good utility. Since it made it so my quarter staff was no longer decorative and attack of opportunity from my caster (no matter how rare they happened) were legitimately deadly now.
what really (positivly) suprised me in this game is the fact how much classes/races matter. I was afraid that I would not be optimising well enough by not picking a dialog focused skill monkey but other skills come up as well and the amount of time I could steamroll intimidation (barb often gets advantage and lower DC) and con checks because I picked karlach (the barbarian) is mindblowing also I've seen checks have 10dc because I'm a thiefling where other characters would have a 20 DC or just skiping rolls outright because of it and I'm sure there is similar situations for other classes/races. point being you are not disadvanted for not picking a charisma class but still advantaged if you do (my bard for multiplayer can talk circles around anything) beautiful gamedesign
Hands down the best way to build Monk is to take 1 Level in Fighter for Heavy armor + Shield, then take 6 into monk grabbing Tavern Brawler as the first Feat. This lets you do your Str Modifier x2 to your unarmed attacks. so 5+5 at 20 Str, and also adds this to your chance to hit giving you +10 to landing the hit. Then grabbing atleast 3 into rogue for the bonus action. So you're incredibly tanky with 20 AC minimum, competitive damage with 3 normal punches per round or 6 if you blow Ki for flurrys. Could even take 2 into fighter for action surge and have even more.
I am running a modified version of your original Barbadin. I did a Bearbarbadin and its working great. super tanky great damage tons of movement...so much fun
Sorlocks are quite good in BG3, under certain conditions. With lightning charges, if you are a draconic sorcerer, because it is lightning damage, you can add your charisma again to every beam. Currently, it is also bugged so that agonizing blast gets added to lightning charge damage. And the potent robe lets you, again, add your charisma to all cantrip damage. With haste (potion of speed is cheap) and quicken, that is 9 attacks, so 9*(1d10+5+1d6+1+5+5+5) = 270 damage And unlike with GWM builds, you are likely to hit all those attacks too!
You should look at the changes to the Tavern Brawler feat. It now gives +5 to attack roll and +5 to damage rolls with unarmed attacks, improvised weapons, and throws. It also still is a half feat! It works great with Berserkers (bonus action throw) and monks.
And you can hold a shield in your offhand in your melee set, to still get the AC bonus so you will have 20+ AC
TWO THINGS that are just INSANE in BG3 that you didn't mention: 1) Just a 1-level dip in Wizard gives you access to every wizard spell regardless of what type of caster you want to be and can even learn all scroll spells! 2) Pact of the blade warlock gives you an extra attack at level 5 that STACKS with standard extra attack. 7 Paladin/5 Warlock gets 3 attacks with high level smites that refresh on short rest.
How does the 1 level dip into wizard actually work? let's say I would wanna take it for the fighter sorlock, when would you take it? Do you still have access to newer and stronger wizard spells if say you're a sorcerer 2 wizard 1 and keep takeing levels in wizard or do you have to take wizard as your last level?
I played D&D first when it came in a red cardboard box. So... I can honestly say your multiclass video was amazing. I generally avoid multiclassing but your suggestions really change how the build plays, in video or table top. Great stuff Mr. Homelander lookalike. Really oozing that henrycavillism in nerdism.
A bad thing with Sorlock in this game, is that you can't use your Warlock's spell slots for creating metamagic. In my case it always uses my Sorcerer's spell slots first, so I can't go "infinite"
Yes it uses them first, but it does get to the warlock's slots afterwards. The bigger problem imo is that warlock spells can't be cast with lower level slots, meaning that if you have a higher level slot available from Sorc, you can't use your warlock slots for warlock spells.
Sorlock spells are just not working correctly. You cant use your Warlock spell slots until you burn through your Sorc slots. Also your Warlock spells always use the highist Sorc spell slots
Really love the builds. Unfortunately warlock spell slots are bugged currently. You cannot use warlock spell slots to cast other class spells until the slots from the other class are used up. Really hampers the effectiveness of the sorlock, and made me abandon mine. Hope Larian fixes this soon!
What patron did you choose? I originally chose archfey and it was exactly as you describe here. The fix is to use the fiend as patron. Now it works perfectly fine for me.
I literally just spent several hundred gold respeccing companions after finding your previous video so already noticed some differences now the game has launched. Thanks very much for clarifying the changes and I look forward to your next multiclasses for BG3 video!
Things I learned just from watching a bit of the game: Druid (wild shape into a spider) and ranger (beastmaster spider companion) can spam web all day! Longstrider, Feather fall, and Jump are rituals. YOU CAN HAVE ALL 3 ON THE PARTY ALL THE TIME! Such mobility! Much bounce! Very good! 😍
I was testing the Longstrider, Feather fall, Jump combo yesterday (August 9th, 2023). Yes you can have them all up at the same time but Feather Fall and Enhanced Leap have a duration of 10 turns and the buff disappears if you take them off your prepared spell list. So, it'll be cumbersome to have them all up at the same time all the time. Probably be better to just use them all before initiating combat and then use turn-based mode to get into proper position. On the other hand, spells that last until a long rest like Longstrider and Aid are very useful as you can have someone in camp be your designated buffer and apply those spells to whoever you want then go out with your preferred party while the buffer stays in camp.
I just wish longstrider was an AOE or could multi target when in ritual form 😭 so tedious having to buff my whole party and summons (or resummons if any die) after every long rest, meanwhile feather fall be hitting everyone in the zip code 😂
Tremendous, After sifting through nearly every single nearly one of your videos for a dnd game I’ll be starting soon, I also got the game this morning, and while its downloading I get to watch this.
I like this a lot. There are a lot of interesting combinations you can do. Some of them are enough to use as the foundation for a build for some amount of time.
D4, it must be a total hoot to be in your play group! Many, many koodos go out to your DM to be able to consistantly handle the exceedingly amazing builds that you come up with. I don't know how he/she would be able to do it but apparently they are able to keep the story line going in your group, just blows my mind. It's too bad that Baldur's doesn't allow a spell then a cantrip or two cantrips to be used in a single round, in order to reflect how you do some of your builds, and 5e RAW. But regardless, keep it up you're quite the genius in my eyes!! I spent decades running single class characters, and if I did multiclass it was just to one other class and never have I ever realized the potential that they could have reached had I been more fluid in my designs.
Since respecing is so cheap in BG3, it would be cool to see a series of builds that are strong in the early levels and when you reach a certain level, respec into even stronger builds for that specific level.
@@MrStoffzor I'm thinking of respeccing to completely different builds for each level. So like Warrior Domain Cleric for level 1, to get the bonus action attack. 2 lvls of Fighter for level 2, for action surge instead. Lvl 3 might be all Warlock to get the Eldritch blast modifiers, etc. etc.
Yeah, how dare he make a living for the hours he spends testing, writing scripts, recording, editing, etc. *Eye roll*. His subscription is also one of the lowest cost of any UA-camr I've ever watched, so he's not evening trying to rip people off. So, since we're on the topic, what UA-cam content and perks do you provide for free?
just stumbled upon your channel last night, very informative and good explaining of things that even i understood most of it :) I purposely did not go for any multiclass builds for my first run (still going strong), but I now understand that i made a serious mistake. Will test out the respec later tonight. all my companions are lvl 6 atm, but i dont allways feel like they have improved that much, yeah the HP is higher and maybe a spell or two that is nice, but overall the dmg isnt that much better. I will go over my character and my followers and see what i can change, (don`t even know if i can respec them or not). i will also multiclass every single one of them! i havent played any dnd since Neverwinter nights, which i absolutely loved!
Something I found out through reading threads about the wild heart barb, to take advantage of the diving strike 2m above deal, you can carry 2 crates or what have you with your barb at all times, drop one on the ground and then place the other one on top, then you can climb on top and diving strike off of that. Helped me so much when I couldn't find "high" places to jump off of. Little cheesy, but also I found it to be very clever use of game mechanics. I just wish there was a way to know if you are above a person by 2m or not, bc it takes at least 2 boxes on top of each other to reach that 2m mark.
Hey bro your vid’s I’ve watched over the past 6 months of discovering your channel have given me the knowledge of 5e so that I could make my skald build I wanted as well as trying new builds on different companions with enough know how to be pretty effective!! Been playing on normal and passing most skill checks with ease! Can’t thank you enough for the work you’ve put in to 5e content!
Nice Colby!! I'm doing a Bardadin (oath of Vengeance & Swords Bard) these explanations are invaluable!! Love how Larian lets us unshackle from certain limiting rules and let us experiment!!
For the Ninja build going Way of The Open Hand up to 6th seems like the way to go. Not only do your unarmed strikes become magical but you also passives that add 1d4+WIS to every attack (necrotic, psychic, or radiant) *and* you get Wholeness of Body once per LR that gives you Ki back (half+3) and an extra bonus attack. That would really up the burst if you pop that just before attacking. That’ll up your burst by a *lot*.
I wuf your videos they were so articulate and complete. I was amazed how much you guessed correctly before launch. Can't wait for the next video on tuesday! Take all your time lol ;)
I've been playing the Holy Warrior build as you released in the other video and has been very smooth, I've GWM and Sentinel, using a Halberd that gives me +2 str, for a total 20 str, and the -1 cumulative from the Frenzied Attacks rarely matter, but even then, you have SO many things to do with your bonus action (i've been making good use of enraged throw in clutch moments too).
Please keep making BG3 videos, I’m absolutely loving all content I can consume of it even besides playing myself
I concur this loving the optimized baldurs content.
I hope he makes a crazy lv 12 multiclass on all 12 classes build, because there's an achievement for doing it on a playthrough without respec'ing
Please, so much this!!!
THIS
I've seen people using Gloom rangee with Theif Rouge and hiding every turn with the bonus action to re stealth. 😮
Seemed a bit 🧀 to ne so I'm going Ranger Assasian 😊
Your Fighter/Warlock/Sorcerer multiclass brought my Wyll to life! Thank you, He was okay before but now he absolutely destroys from a range.
Same here. And with act 3 gear he is an #absolute beast!
I absolutely love this build I tried it and I have lesser afk time now on the game and wants to fight fight fight more enemies instead
I took this build for my main, I didn't quite get it until level 4 i think, but after that it just became awesome. Now on level 5 and blasting
Im doing the same thing! Im also making karlach a barb/pal and shadowheart a cleric/bard
But all of you agree that the warlock spell slots are useless right after you get lvl 2 sorcerer spell slots?
Your channel has always been great! I love making multi-class builds myself more than anything in dnd. Putting out a baldur's gate video for release was a high intelligence move.
Found your channel thanks to the algorithm. Looks good, highly knowledgable, admits mistakes, is humble about it and releases a follow up video to clarify things. What an absolute chad of a human being. Subscribed.
This is it! Youre gonna pass 100k subs for sure! Dude I’ve been watching since like 24-30k subs and this is by far my favorite UA-cam channel, I really hope this bauldergate content continues to rocket the channel where it deserves to be
Gonna (action) surge past 100k faster than a monk can run
Aren't you going to need int for those though?
@@PhilipeS79viNot if you use the warped headband of intellect
(That's unlocked at level 14 but 12 is the max)
The divination ability Portent allows you to straight up replace rolls, so you can make sure a spell hits and force the enemy to be unable to save. It's very "IMportent"
It didn't work for me that way I took druid but had only druid level 1 spells available
That's because they're not wizard spells, or you didn't learn any level 2+ wizard spells.
I've never played D&D before. I found your channel because I was looking for build advice before BG3 release and your channel is perfect! I loved using your builds in the game and I love how thorough and passionate you are about making them. I would love to see you do more BG3 builds!
Love seeing you cover bg3. Series idea for you: some of your favorite builds you’ve made so far brought to life in bg3 and showcased with gameplay.
I second this
x3
You're teaching me so much more about the rules of the game than some channels that directly address the rules/mechanics.
Understanding a system that you've constrained yourself in & then looking at where you can thrive? You can't get more human than this. Great job GGs
Oath of Devotion Paladin can use Sacred Weapon to add his Charisma modifier to attack rolls. Combining it with Reckless Attack it could help mitigate the Frenzy penalty and make Berserker still viable.
I still think you're better off just doing Bear or Wolf barb. That stacking negative really adds up especially in longer/harder fights.
I have a karlach berserk barbarian with a pike that comes back when you throw it and with that feat the damage is just to much, and is pretty fun too
There’s also an early magic “fling ring” item that adds 1d4 to your thrown attacks.
Someone should make a video on a throwing barbarian for bg3
I'm so tempted to go frenzy barbarian and beastmaster ranger to occasionally toss my wolf at enemies
Just use the warlock mid to late game that fightersorcwoc is insane
@@marcuss4697right before his bolder word he litteraly said AS OF AUGUST 10 so if what you experienced something has changed since
@@Xisoah today is august 10, though. more to the point I don't think either of the two hotfixes since release have included balance changes, mostly just bugfixes
@@Xisoah Possibly changed. But I commented the order specifically to suggest that there may be a way to do it that the OP hadn't tested beforehand
its says something about larian.
Seems extremely strong with Fiendish Vigour.
Great update, really been having a blast with your first vid and this update. Thanks!
Let's go!
Best build video I've seen for any game. Your presentation style is fantastic, you're a born teacher.
excited to see your videos hitting the masses. always been a treat to see Captain America talking about themed power-gaming builds
a few other things to note about thief: that extra bonus action can be "converted" into an action with the ilithid ability Mind Sanctuary, that allows actions and bonus actions to be interchangeable.
the ultimate support: a level of wizard is broken right now because you can scribe any wizard spell you have slots for, so you don't even need level 10 bard anymore, you go 8 bard 2 wizard, grab the headband of intellect, and you can take 5 support wizard spells, like misty step, dimension door, Longstrider. if you go Divination (which you should) , you can take things like dominate person and hold monster and force them to fail, sure they may only last a round, but that might be long enough to turn the tide. hell, you could even grab disintegrate and wall of fire and become a blaster as well, forcing them to fail disintegrate saves.
adding these two together, a strong support could honestly be wizard 2, bard 5 thief 4 cleric 1 . you lose access to higher level spells but theres honestly no really good support spells that high up, and you can use the extra bonus action to set up more buffs or heals, and with Mind Sanctuary, you don't even lose an action really, because you'll still have 2 bonus actions to interchange
I found your channel through the original Top 5 Multiclass Builds Video and just wantd to say thank you for these videos ^^ I am a complete novice to DnD and these videos really helped me to get a first grasp on multiclassing ^^
I really like your videos ^^
Thanks for your content man, not only are your build ideas nice but I honestly could listen to you ramble on about peanuts or something for an hour.
I've been playing open hand monk. It feels super powerful and I'm really enjoying it
You've been training for this moment for so long! Time to capitalize on all your hard work :)
I'd like to see more BG3 content from you too.
That fighter warlock sorcerer build, even though its was theory crafted in terms of the game, is an absolute monster
I saw someone else say this too I’ll have to try it for sure
@@calinmihulet8899 It's monstrous, i'm kinda confused with paladin build though, have no idea how to do it.
@@Ryudoz26 okay i'll stay with my original pal ;)
build 3 and 4 are strong though
The Wet Bandits strike again!
Wait, sabertooth???? Damn gotta do a run as druid now 😂
@@R4G34D0N Yes! And it's quite good.
Raven form is really fun, flying is op.
Stuck on console so I can't play yet, but can't wait to try your support build when I get this game! Will be the best friend of my entire party. :)
Hmmm… first I’ve heard of this. Lame!
I've figured out the AC part. Unarmored defense sets your ac to 10+Dex+con/Wis it never stacked with natural defense in 5e. ( Like if you were to build a monk tortle for example you can't just add your wisdom on top of your she'll ac)
But I would love if someone could Respec a character and test the charisma bug. It happened to me as soon as I got my first level of barbarian
Love to see the BG3 content from you btw (tavern brawler build when? ;))
Yeah, this has been majorly frustrating me. I feel like by the time it’s fixed I will have finished the game
I had the same problem as you. I originally chose archfey, but respeccing and taking the fiend fixed it for me and it works as intended now.
The most impressive part of this is that you didn't kill Astarion on sight or when he tries to drink you.
Theres also a helmet that just always gives you +1 crit range, it drops from spoiler
Quick question what does nova build mean? New to dnd and the bg3 community
@@EvgGaar I see thanks for the info
Thanks alot for all you do.
that's why i personally prefer written guides in general, it's much easier to look up or change.
short summary of original build:
race/background PYF
class barbarian
16 str 14 con 14 dex
2h weapon, med armor
lvl 2: always use reckless attack
lvl 3: berserker (because no penalties for reckless attack)
lvl 4: great weapon master
lvl 5: barbarian
lvl 6: go to wither and respec for 100g, so you get 16 str 14 con 14 cha, 12 dex. repeat berserker build, now skill paladin, pyf subclass.
lvl 7: paladin divine smite + out of combat spells like cure wounds, get great weapon fighting.
lvl 8: respec again, keep barb at lvl 3 now and put the rest in paladin
changed build:
class barbarian
16 str 14 con 14 dex
2h weapon, med armor
lvl 2: use reckless attack [when you miss, the game asks if you want to and generally, you do; no point in activating it manually, though, as you don't need advantage for other things, like a rogue does]
lvl 3: wildheart [because there are penalties for reckless attack after all]
lvl 4: polearm master [or just keep great weapon master; the sussur greatsword's silence-on-hit makes up for all the benefits of using any of the mediocre polearms at this point in the game, imo]
lvl 5: wildheart lvl 5
lvl 6: paladin lvl 1, pyf subclass
lvl 7: respec: 16 str, 14 con, 14 cha, 12 dex, 2 levels barbarian, rest paladin; divine smite + out of combat spells like cure wounds, great weapon fighting.
lvl 8: either barbarian wildheart or stick to paladin
lvl9+: more paladin
Thanks so much brother really appreciate it.@@chezeus1672
My D&D group fizzled as quickly as it started, but I’ve been enjoying BG3! I’m glad you’re doing BG3 videos so I have more to be invested in, always loved your build videos since finding them.
Colby, love you brother. Love your content and just the chill energy you bring to the D&d world. Keep up the great work!
BRO! I am running one of your builds in my current playthrough and it is unstoppable. Really good stuff.
Love to see you do a playthrough
Maybe Barbarian (Wildheart)could work.
Unfortunately very few feats or tadpole power work with wildshapes, and I haven't found a single item so far that buffs wildshapes. Hope they make some changes for it since it's so fun to play.
@@45axelh There's a few in act 3, and there might have been one in act 2 but that's all I've seen so far.
@@45axelh There is one item in act I, it's a ring that buffs your rolls while wildshaped or your appearance is changed through other means
It can benefit from war cleric though. Also, I think every druid gets owlbear
I actually tried this same thing but with Barbarian instead. Dude absolutely shreds.
Uhhh, Barbarians have unarmored defense and their AC is modified by their constitution. Sooo, you don't need armor.
@Barbell_Rehab Hi u mean u take fighter+Barb? What is your build like? I really wanna try out all the builds ppl like. Thanks!
With haste (potion of speed is cheap) and quicken, that is 9 attacks, so
9*(1d10+5+1d6+1+5+5+5) = 270 damage
And unlike with GWM builds, you are likely to hit all those attacks too!
You should look at the changes to the Tavern Brawler feat.
It now gives +5 to attack roll and +5 to damage rolls with unarmed attacks, improvised weapons, and throws.
It also still is a half feat!
It works great with Berserkers (bonus action throw) and monks.
TWO THINGS that are just INSANE in BG3 that you didn't mention:
1) Just a 1-level dip in Wizard gives you access to every wizard spell regardless of what type of caster you want to be and can even learn all scroll spells!
2) Pact of the blade warlock gives you an extra attack at level 5 that STACKS with standard extra attack. 7 Paladin/5 Warlock gets 3 attacks with high level smites that refresh on short rest.
I don't think he is super across the implementation of the Dnd mechanics into BG3. Just cashing in on the BG3 trend!
Wait...what? Pact of Blade and Extra Attack stack? That's insane and needs an immediate nerf!
That sounds wild
@@saintsword23Please no.. I am haveing way to much fun fucking up my enemies
Yeah I'm sad, it's annoying cuz your warlock spell slots are essentially useless
Sorlock spells are just not working correctly. You cant use your Warlock spell slots until you burn through your Sorc slots. Also your Warlock spells always use the highist Sorc spell slots
@@LastSmokeJaguar exactly, I'm not sure whether this was intended or a bug, might wanna try contacting Larian
@@eekbal2018definitely a bug. Dipping 1 into cleric then going all warlock lets me use either slots for any spell.
As one if your 5e fans, it’s kind of hilarious the diff between your forays into Pathfinder content vs BG3. Congrats on all the views!! 🎉

I literally just spent several hundred gold respeccing companions after finding your previous video so already noticed some differences now the game has launched. Thanks very much for clarifying the changes and I look forward to your next multiclasses for BG3 video!
Things I learned just from watching a bit of the game:
Druid (wild shape into a spider) and ranger (beastmaster spider companion) can spam web all day!
Were you watching Pack Tactics' video by any chance? Web spam and ritual Jump feature heavily
Tremendous, After sifting through nearly every single nearly one of your videos for a dnd game I’ll be starting soon, I also got the game this morning, and while its downloading I get to watch this.
I would love to see your builds with all the crazy magic items and their mechanics in bg3.
Isn't that exactly what leveling breakdowns do?
@@MrStoffzor I'm thinking of respeccing to completely different builds for each level. So like Warrior Domain Cleric for level 1, to get the bonus action attack. 2 lvls of Fighter for level 2, for action surge instead. Lvl 3 might be all Warlock to get the Eldritch blast modifiers, etc. etc.
I can't wait to see what you come up with man. I'm looking forward to it.

Super cool that you made a follow up vid clarifying some things in the builds. +1 mate.
just stumbled upon your channel last night, very informative and good explaining of things that even i understood most of it :)
I purposely did not go for any multiclass builds for my first run (still going strong), but I now understand that i made a serious mistake.
Just finished and the blaster made mincemeat of major bosses, thank you for tripling my dpr output :D
Hey bro your vid’s I’ve watched over the past 6 months of discovering your channel have given me the knowledge of 5e so that I could make my skald build I wanted as well as trying new builds on different companions with enough know how to be pretty effective!! been running your barb/pally and life cleric/bard with my wife duoing and its been a blast, great builds thanks man
For the Ninja build going Way of The Open Hand up to 6th seems like the way to go.
I repec’d my main sorlock with your fighter addition. Holy hell it slaps. Thanks!
Your builds have been the bane of my DM’s existence for the last year, I can’t wait to try them out in BG3!

Got to your channel from Baldurs Gate content, looking forward to the next build video. Great stuff here, thank you.
