We both share a common ancestor which both chimps and humans evolved from. But we don’t know who that common ancestor is. Though we share many genes with the chimpanzee, we evolved in different environmental conditions. Where chimps have adaptations which allows greater mobility in trees- but we evolved to communicate. I believe it’s called the Cognitive Trade-off Hypothesis.

Times have always been bad. It's just that today we got TV, we got 24 hour newscasts, we got news feds on the internet. Everyday we hear about bad things all around. So of course it looks like we're living in the worse of times. But it really isn't any worse than in previous decades. For example, in the 1950s the world was probably just as worse as today, but it seemed peaceful because most people only had one TV with 5 channel and news broadcasts that only lasted half an hour. To the people who were alive in the 1950s the world was peaceful because at least for them, the world seemed peaceful. They weren't accustomed to the constant negative news we're so used to today.
According to the differences in the Mayan Calendar and our own the end of the Mayan Calendar is actually around 2026~2027 so maybe it will still happen🤷♂️🤯

It no more predicted the end of the world than your 2023 calendar ending on December 31 predicts the end of the world. It actually means you need a new calendar.
It’s like if the Gregorian calendar could only have 4 digits because of the way it was set up when it was created, that wouldn’t predict the end of the world at the end of 9999, it would just predict you would need to buy a new 10,000 year calendar.

The "Beast" wasn't actually a person. The apocalyptic style pretty much always used beasts to represent nations or other powerful organizations, with heads representing individual rulers.
As for the idea of the Catholic church as the antichrist, I'm not sure what total ideas led to it, but there certainly were times when it fit, and I could see "standing in the temple of God and declaring himself to be God" could be interpreted as something like giving too much power to a priest, to the point that in effect people came to the priest rather than to God for aid, forgiveness and salvation. At the least, I'm pretty sure that line wasn't meant to refer to someone standing in the Temple in Jerusalem but rather just a warning of evil people within the church itself.

Most Christians don't read their bibles enough to work out the true meaning of revelation so they just believe whatever is popular in the media / whatever sells the most books etc. To be honest it is a little hard for the lame person to figure it out. How I got up to speed was that I watched Bruce Core's: '10. The Preterist Approach to Revelation'. It is highly condensed down. Understanding revelation and prophecy has really changed my worldview. Where we are in history, gives you that broader view. It makes the bible make more sense, especially when it comes to Jesus's kingdom on earth and pushing the devil back. It's really good to kind of like theory craft on where the world is heading, future trends etc.
