Another good thing to consider when hosting maps is considering what TYPE of map you're hosting. If you don't have that big of a following, hosting PMV maps is most likely better because chances are you'll find more talented artists than animators, I've accepted many people into my PMV maps and they did amazing, but I wouldn't let those people join my animation maps just yet. My point is PMV maps are superior because every animator can draw but not every artist can animate

Oh god, ive dealt with almost all of these problems and it just ugh My advice: if you're unsure of a deadline to pick, usually id say a month, but if it's a strict deadline such as a holiday map, you need to release it early and have a deadline earlier from the day its due. Ive seen so many holdiay maps get crushed like this and its kind of saddening. If it has a strict deadline, be prepared to kick more people. Usually they will realise they dont have time or an event will come up so they have to drop. Unless you have many backups, be prepared to take a few parts yourself. That's really my advice. This goes more for small animators who wouldnt have a large following and probably don't have many people joining their maps too often. Hope this helps!
I feel like this should be added to the don'ts. Again, I feel like it might fall into the "Don't advertise in the comment section" category, but I feel it needs to be said: *Don't go begging of popular artists to join your MAP, or better yet, don't threaten people to join your MAP.* Time and again, I've seen people act entitled and go to the most popular animator's they know of to join, and go as far as spamming their Twitter, their Instagram, even their own Tumblr, for crying out loud. If you really want them to join your MAP, then either be patient and let time do what it does or commission them. *Also, ask permission to use other people's designs if you're planning to use them for your MAP.* Trust me, I had one person ask me to join their Warriors MAP that was using a design made by another popular artist without their consent. I also remembered joining an MAP where it was revealed the host didn't ask permission to use their Warrior Cats designs and had to delete the server and went into hiding. I don't know where they are now, but all I know is that it should be a good example on how not to host an MAP.
I also have something that should be on the list; Try not to take extremely long to reply to your participants. It can be frustrating for the participants and yourself.
Ooooh I kicked someone out of my newest completed map, and they said I was a waste of their time, and I was being a huge b**ch. Only cause I asked for a wip about 6 times and they said ooohhh I’m almost done I’ll send one later. News flash they never did ;-;
Oh this is so good advice. Some of the tips i allready do. Like when you remind them half way throw and checking before you start a map. But its still really nice to know all this stuff!
Here’s my tip (if anyone is still watching this 3 year old video LOL) for if you have a MAP idea and really wanna do it, but you know it’s too much work for you. Make a fake map part for the song! You can pick whatever part of the song you like, and make a couple seconds long animation to it with your characters singing along or whatever you want! It can be super fun, and it’s not weird or anything, because I’ve see people do it before. Bonus: if your fake map part gets super popular by some stretch and you decide you’re up to it later, you can make the map real and even use your “fake part” in the end product. If it gets popular enough, maybe someone will be down to co-host your map! If you never end up wanting the make the map, or worse, lose interest in the idea after making your fake part, that’s great, because it means you didn’t start a whole project with a ton of other people before realizing you’re bored of the idea and scrapping it lolll
The one big dont that I have is DONT MAKE THE DESIGNS TOO COMPLEX. So many maps have just taken images off of google because its good art, without taking into account how many floating stripes or specific patches they have. It's HARD to animate or even draw that many specific patterns.
And for putting parts together: go on the video, press "share" and "copy link". Now you go to Chrome(or whatever app U use) and put it in"MP4 converter". Go on the website, put your link in and download it. Do that with every part. When every part is downloaded, go to your editing part and put them together! :)
Thank you so much for this! I’m starting to figure out what I want to do when I can finally get this channel running. I believe I’m going to start by entering thumbnail contests as example for PMV MAPS for art, then make some animation examples, and then maybe join a MAP, or even one of yours! These are really helping me plan out my animation career. Thank you once again, Northflower, for making one of these.
I remember joining an anything map. They where so happy with it (it was a low teir one, for new comers) It really did make me happy. It is good to allow newer people to join so they can also get experience, and see if it is for them. I am not too found of joining maps but it still was fun.
I have a question! How do you split songs into even parts? (Like if a map has 20 parts, how did you figure out how to split the song?) Also, do you have any tips on editing parts together?
You should do a video on character design (whether its for maps or just individual advice)! Tennelle kind of touched this subject a bit but I'm curious what else you can add to it, love these advice videos!
This is hella late but one thing I hate is when the text for parts has a transition. Like for example 'part 1' fading into 'part 2.' It makes it really difficult to guess the correct time and length of parts.
Once, I joined a map. It was a WoF Peril Demons map on Scratch. I did my part, then months later, went back and watched the MAP. I didn't see my part and got upset. Reasonably. I messaged the host, and apparently, they didn't realize my part was Part 6 so it was in a different place. Oops, no one's bad.
This is interesting to know, since I myself want to try something like this in the near future. I do have one question about it though: Any good tips or programs to use for editing a MAP?
Basically any program should suffice for putting the parts together and watermarking them, I used Windows Movie Maker at first... If you want something a little fancier then you'll probably either have to get creative or buy one of those more expensive programs (I currently use Movie Studio Platinum 13 and it's the only one I have any experience with really)

not sure if I commented when I first saw the video but *oh well* I agree with the "prepare to be frustrated" one, when I hosted my first successful map, it didn't take long to get my first participant. after they joined, things ran smooth af with participants finishing parts left and right- *until the discord server died.* I lost motivation and dropped out of MY OWN MAP, then soon a friend dropped out. Then someone cut contact and left the server for no reason. I've pinged the backups several times and, as nobody said anything, I forgot about the map for a while

Ive got one question: how do you get the music for your maps? I would love to do some pmvs and i have some music ideas i really like but i dont know how to get the music if that makes sense? Like where do you get the recording of the music.. ?
Once this person joined my MAP and made some terrible crap, so i told nicely to maybe fix bits of it up..... I also editted it a bit to show them where I wanted them to fix up..... They started being extremely mad and saying that their part was too good for my standards and that they were gonna report me to the scratch team for being unfair. O. o
Yes, its true ppl get the same ideas all the time, I had this idea for a long time about an ashfur Dynasty MAP I searched it up just in case and found one, Ill make sure to give them some credit if I ever do the Ashfur MAP
I'm trying to get into animating but I'm using a PC and I can't find any animating apps that work. Does anyone recommend an app that doesn't take two hours to download and set up and involves downloading fifteen hundred other apps?
Adding onto that: CSP has animation features, but you'll need a video editor to throw it all together. OpenToonz is a one-in-all package from what I've seen.
Thank you for the tips for the map! This will be really handy for me cuz i'm planing to host a map when i reach a lot of subscribers! (Also sorry for my terrible english-)
i actually had a really good idea for a map but i have absolutely no idea how to edit one! could you maybe make a video on the best way to host a map? that'd be epic -also if no maybe you could make the map eE-
I know a rule of hosting maps is to not be sad over kicking something out of a map, I'm really caring and kind so when I do I ask for the ones that cant get there parts done if they want to be a backup incase they want the part back if it isnt taken. I do it on all of my maps ((aka the only map I hosted QwQ))
I’m planning on hosting a running with the wolves wings of fire map and this helped a lot thanks! Oh and how do I put the parts together? Is there a app I can use to make it helpful
Yo, I don’t have any content, so I have no following, but I’ve got an idea I need help for that I know people would HOP on because of how popular the character is and how badass the song ended up being. I’ll probably just do a PMV, but oh boy.
Hosting MAPS are hard to deal with. Here are the top 3 (in my opinion) that are hard: 1. DEADLINES 2. The rules 3. Looking at others animations while checking if they have ability to do animation (when your hand hurts like hell)
I was thinking about making a warriors map about the great battle with the dark forest and the song be Hamilton:YorkTown but i didn’t know how to do it and never hosted a map before. I dont think i will be hosting this map anytime soon. But this video really cleared things up for me.
I have a question, what (preferably) free programs do MAP hosts use to edit the videos? I've seen some cool transitions and effects in various MAPs and PMVs, and I've been wondering how people do it. Thanks!
6:08 im having problems with this one I try not to, but i just have so many ideas :( I got 2 maps currently (one almost finished, the other is pretty quiet), co-hosting 2 maps (same thing as with my own maps) and im planning on a map (that im gonna cancel if it wont get finished on time (': ) I was a newbie when i made the 3 maps and now im sad Life is hard lol
Dang both parts of these are really really helpful I’ve always wanted to host or join a map one day so these are very good notes to take. ((I know I’m late by a year xD but I’ll keep these in mind!))
i have an idea for a future map if anyone wants to host one! maybe a poppyfrost map? she's so underrated. her sister and berrynose get all the attention. poppyfrost needs love. i've only seen maybe 3 videos of her. 10 for her sister and mate. she needs love,
I was doing a part for a m.a.p, and ALOT of people wouldn't finish their parts, or just left it as a WIP, So me and some other people where doing the parts that didn't get finished. it was alot of work but we managed to get it done on time-
Do you know of a good editing software for putting the completed parts together? I have a MAP open, but I’m worried that I won’t be able to edit it myself and that I’ll have to ask someone else to Also, if you make another video like this, can you add that people should make sure they can edit the complete parts together BEFORE starting the MAP? This... is definitely something I should’ve done = =“
I have had to ask someone else edit before because my program that I had only just learned to use decided to pull some weird stunt on me. It wasn't anything that big, you could still watch the MAP but it made half the parts have this weird fade effect,,
Can you or anyone else explain the difference between a scripted map and a storyboarded map and how to host one of these pls? I want to host one with my characters and have an idea but am not really sure how I would host either one of these and the way they work.
Alright everyone, hear me out a second. I have an amazing idea for a map, but since I have no artistic ability I want someone to do this idea: Map Song: The Room Where It Happens (From Alexander Hamilton) Characters- Arron Burr: TigerClaw Alexander Hamilton: Fireheart Thomas Jefferson: Bluestar or Tallstar James Maddison: Nightstar Info: I’m basically thinking this map should be about Tigerclaw’s treachery and just show how bad he wanted to be with the other leaders and just- yeah. (BTW FOR ANYONE WHO USES THIS IDEA, PLEASE CREDIT ME OR WARN ME BEFORE CALLING IT) Thank you
This will be awesome advise cause I have to map open 1I JUST OPENED LIKE 3 DAYS AGO all parts are gone but only one person fineshed my other one all but 3 pepole fineshed
How do you put the animations together.... Like what program thing can you use to put the animations together with audio on one video? I haven’t found anyone explaining how to do that QwQ I am very clueless
U dont have to do this, but if u want to put the map parts together, i use capcut. Unlike kinemaster capcut has no water mark. Capcut also has these little transitions if u wanna fade in the beginning or ending. Something like that :,)
how do u even save the map parts? i saw some people make map parts but they go by so quick and have no clue how people save it to make it a an actual map part
Well I personally screen record the parts and then edit it from there. Most of the time map hosts have a discord where the participants can send their parts and then the host can download it from there.
I know this comment is old, but here's some input :) I personally recommend looking up "(fandom you like) open map", "open oc map" or "open anything map"! this gives you freedom to find maps that interest you or maps that let you do whatever you like for the part :)

I'm trying to get into animating but I'm using a PC and I can't find any animating apps that work. Does anyone recommend an app that doesn't take two hours to download and set up and involves downloading fifteen hundred other apps?
Krita is what I use it's pretty simple to download and use
Adding onto that: CSP has animation features, but you'll need a video editor to throw it all together. OpenToonz is a one-in-all package from what I've seen.
Very helpful!! Thank you so much for making a second part!! I'll be sure to take most of this into consideration if every hosting! 💕💕
Thank you for the tips for the map!
This will be really handy for me cuz i'm planing to host a map when i reach a lot of subscribers!
(Also sorry for my terrible english-)
i actually had a really good idea for a map but i have absolutely no idea how to edit one! could you maybe make a video on the best way to host a map? that'd be epic
-also if no maybe you could make the map eE-
I know a rule of hosting maps is to not be sad over kicking something out of a map, I'm really caring and kind so when I do I ask for the ones that cant get there parts done if they want to be a backup incase they want the part back if it isnt taken. I do it on all of my maps ((aka the only map I hosted QwQ))
I’m planning on hosting a running with the wolves wings of fire map and this helped a lot thanks! Oh and how do I put the parts together? Is there a app I can use to make it helpful
This helps a lot! I'm soon gonna be hosting a evil Ivypool au map.
Thank you. As a host, THANK YOU.
Amazing vidoe Northflower!
I really love those types of vidoes. Please make more!
Yo, I don’t have any content, so I have no following, but I’ve got an idea I need help for that I know people would HOP on because of how popular the character is and how badass the song ended up being. I’ll probably just do a PMV, but oh boy.
Thanks so much!!!! I have a MAP with 3 slots left thanks to you, and a lot are done!
I love these videos of yours, they're really helpful!
Hosting MAPS are hard to deal with. Here are the top 3 (in my opinion) that are hard:
1. DEADLINES
2. The rules
3. Looking at others animations while checking if they have ability to do animation (when your hand hurts like hell)
as for number 3,,, yes,,, like try doing that when you have 300 people to check hjfjhsfs iT TAKES HOURS
Thanks!
I DON'T KNOW WHERE MY LAST COMMENT WENT BUT-
THAT'S ME AT THE START!1
WOOOOOO
6:08 im having problems with this one
I try not to, but i just have so many ideas :(
I got 2 maps currently (one almost finished, the other is pretty quiet), co-hosting 2 maps (same thing as with my own maps) and im planning on a map (that im gonna cancel if it wont get finished on time (': )
I was a newbie when i made the 3 maps and now im sad
Life is hard lol
Thanks, this helped a lot! I’m planning to do a warriors map in the future and this had some great tips!
Dang both parts of these are really really helpful I’ve always wanted to host or join a map one day so these are very good notes to take. ((I know I’m late by a year xD but I’ll keep these in mind!))
Tysm for the advice! I was just gonna post my first map call and needed some advice
Help! I'm trying to get attention to my map but nobody's joining anymore. I don't really have any social media either. What can I do??
i have an idea for a future map if anyone wants to host one!
maybe a poppyfrost map? she's so underrated. her sister and berrynose get all the attention. poppyfrost needs love. i've only seen maybe 3 videos of her. 10 for her sister and mate. she needs love,
0:50 damn i learned this hard when this one person would not stop asking to join, even tho they didnt have discord haha
I really want to start a map someday soon, thanks for making this! It really helped
Shall I abort my MAP now 😅😅😅 I am guilty for a few of the don’ts lol
Just fix what you can
I was doing a part for a m.a.p, and ALOT of people wouldn't finish their parts, or just left it as a WIP, So me and some other people where doing the parts that didn't get finished. it was alot of work but we managed to get it done on time-
Do you know of a good editing software for putting the completed parts together? I have a MAP open, but I’m worried that I won’t be able to edit it myself and that I’ll have to ask someone else to
Also, if you make another video like this, can you add that people should make sure they can edit the complete parts together BEFORE starting the MAP? This... is definitely something I should’ve done
= =“
I have had to ask someone else edit before because my program that I had only just learned to use decided to pull some weird stunt on me. It wasn't anything that big, you could still watch the MAP but it made half the parts have this weird fade effect,,
Hey North! I was wondering if you had a discord or could give us some good videos on how to improve!
Can you or anyone else explain the difference between a scripted map and a storyboarded map and how to host one of these pls? I want to host one with my characters and have an idea but am not really sure how I would host either one of these and the way they work.
I love your voice:) you also animate very well.
can you make a remakes of those and add some more thing you learned in those 3 years?
Can I just put in "the deadline is when everyone's done"?
One question-
What do you suggest for editing a map (specifically on PC)? I'm using Canva... it's not working out lol
5:04 wow, I can’t believe you flexed on me, I’m sad now
Alright everyone, hear me out a second. I have an amazing idea for a map, but since I have no artistic ability I want someone to do this idea:
Map Song: The Room Where It Happens (From Alexander Hamilton)
Characters-
Arron Burr: TigerClaw
Alexander Hamilton: Fireheart
Thomas Jefferson: Bluestar or Tallstar
James Maddison: Nightstar
Info: I’m basically thinking this map should be about Tigerclaw’s treachery and just show how bad he wanted to be with the other leaders and just- yeah.
I would love to see a video on how to work on MAP parts more efficiently.
I knew that your channel name used to be "Northflower" I KNEW I WASN'T CRAZY. That one little letter..
Here’s a good question… how do you promote a MAP as a small channel? I need to know
How do you put the animations together....
Something like that :,)
@@aureliiaaa.9833 Thank you owo I will see if that works UwU
@@scarazme npp :Dd
I use iMovie, it also has no watermark and it has a green screen feature which can be handy to add some fancy part transitions into the map
how do u even save the map parts? i saw some people make map parts but they go by so quick and have no clue how people save it to make it a an actual map part
Well I personally screen record the parts and then edit it from there. Most of the time map hosts have a discord where the participants can send their parts and then the host can download it from there.
@@mcytfan1415 oh ty!
When I find maps I see a lot of warrior cats and wings of fire but what if u don’t know what they r cause I don’t
I know this comment is old, but here's some input :)
I personally recommend looking up "(fandom you like) open map", "open oc map" or "open anything map"! this gives you freedom to find maps that interest you or maps that let you do whatever you like for the part :)
I love your voice and when I am able to join a map I'll have this in mind.
