I have a really funny story relating to similar MAPs ideas. Me and other host made a call for Wings of Fire to the song Two Birds by Regina Specktor, focusing on the same two characters, with similar art direction, and we posted them 1 WEEK apart from each other. Oh and they were both our first MAPs. We worked everything out as they're different projects focusing on different themes and story elements, and they're both now finished! I just think it's funny that there are so many similarities despite being pure coincidence.
I remember a couple of WoF wikians and I got together to try to make a Darkstalker We Dont Talk About Bruno, with me naturally gravitating to being the lead co-host (I usually take the leader role in any group project I join, even if I can’t handle it, and it’s been like that since elementary school). Anyways, i spent roughly a week or two making a colored storyboard for the MAP. I would spend multiple hours each day working on it. People were rushing me and asking why I wasn’t done already because it turns out there were already two maps with the same, or near exact same, plot and characters to the same song being made, as well as someone uploaded an ‘animation meme’ (bro it was just one picture) to the song we don’t talk about Bruno about Darkstalker. THAT video got over 10k views I believe. I was rushing and wanted to let people know that yes, I was working on it, so I uploaded a WIP storyboard. You wanna know what happened? I got 700 views until youtube deleted my video for it having the song we don’t talk about Bruno. I’m sorry, but EXCUSE ME UA-cam WHAT what about all of those OTHER animations? Heh it’s been almost a year now and I’m still sour about it- Anyways when that happened I lost the video. Annnnnndd that’s why I just enter maps, and not host them.
I had posted a map call 2 months before both of those but noone joined so I cancelled it, it was scripted and had all the designs. I forgot to say that it was Darkstalker and Clearsight with the two birds song
@@Kiturnip I tried to make a Halloween map about my favorite song in Anastasia and no one joined it :( only one person did and they didn’t even finish there part despite being it posted in august
I have definitely had at least one mildly antagonistic host... This was a beginner's friendly MAP, but it was more of a AMV than regular animation, and I didn't really (and still don't) know how to do smooth slides and transitions in my program of choice, and mine were clearly hand tweaned. The host didn't care for it and asked me to change it, and I asked if they knew how to do it either in my program or another free program, and they just straight up never answered me. Eventually I literally took the art to Windows Movie Maker, put it in one of those awful stock slide animations, took THAT video and cut it down to the part I needed and spliced it into the animation as if it were all made in the same program. The MAP never got posted, and I believe a few others were having similar issues, and I know a couple people dropped out AFTER having finished their parts because the quality wasn't good or they didn't know how to do what was being asked of them. ---- So MY addition to the Do's and Don'ts: If you're going to host a beginner-friendly MAP - DO make sure the participants you choose are capable of what you're planning on asking them, or if you can't be too picky about participants, DON'T be surprised/upset if the parts are not perfect. It's beginner-friendly. Please, not everyone knows everything yet. Beginner-friendly isn't just a term to throw in there so you get more applicants.
In a situation like that, if I was the host then I would ask for the participant to send the assets and then do the editing myself, if it really needed to be changed.
Piece of advice: Ask your participants to add some extra frames at the beginning and end of the parts, just in case they/you cut their audio wrong! Crop it to make the audio flow. (Also, don’t upload the parts into ur editing software with the audio. Add the high quality audio over it and crop the parts to match the flow!)
I know that it's been a year but I've got a question. How do you download videos from UA-cam without needing to pay for them? It's been saying that when I tried to and I came to this video to see if there was a solution.
You forgot to add one of the most important things or maybe the most important thing of hosting a map, if you don't have passion for it, it can fall or even worse, it can be really stressful doing something you don't like. It can feel like a burden on you or even in the end the results of the map may look awful. For experience, I made a map of SpongeBob SquarePants (luckily I managed to make it really good) but just because I thought it will be easy and cool do it, I wanted to do it because others did it and I wanted to have one too and I wanted to do it for views and compliments, And in the end, I got to the point where I feel like it's a burden on me and I shouldn't give it up because a lot of people spent months participating in my map and in the end after a lot of pain, I finished it. But did I enjoy the process? No. So remember, only if you have a desire to see the final result in its entirety, if you know you will enjoy the process and you know it will be difficult but fun, go for it. Don't do it just for views or to impress someone. Do it for a purpose strong enough that you know you can stand it without feeling bad about it. Choose a map that you know you are willing to give everything for. If you chose a map that you end up not wanting to do because you have no real passion for it, it will just be a waste of time for you to work on it.
For my first map that i hosted, i surprisingly followed most of these despite it being impulsive and made right on the spit without any planning or reasearch. Its been about 10 months since i hosted it and only 2 parts left to finish! :D
@@crystal7965 you have about a similar following to me, i assume it was because i was using a more nostalgic song that no one was currently hosting at the time
@@Candy-8448 fair haha, maybe bc we have diff target audiences, j don't rlly have many animators following me rn, i was thinking of doing a co-host w someone but I don't wanna sp in someones dms
@@Candy-8448 Please teach me your ways, I try everything I can and still struggle to find any participants. (Granted it’s a fakemon map instead of a warriors map so I might’ve shot myself in the foot just a little bit)
@@scootermcpeanuts6699 i think with mine it was a one off cuz ive hosted 2 more maps since then that have them become discontinued because no one joined (not even backups from my viva map) Im currently hosting one but that one has no luck either =_=
My first MAP was a MASSIVE mistake... Here are some of the mistakes I found I made that I changed in my newest one: I only posted on UA-cam instead of UA-cam, Facebook, AND Instagram I didn't add tags I didn't set ANY rules I didn't set a script I didn't post character designs I built it off of impulse instead of wanting to do it In my newer MAP, I: Shared it on Facebook as well as UA-cam I added plenty of tags I set rules I set a script (pretty detailed to ensure there's no confusion) I posted character designs I WANTED to do it I currently have 7/30 parts filled in under a month! Pretty happy for my first (successful) MAP
Know that pain my first MAP was too even when it had rules people didn't finish their parts The sucessfull one was the fourth one but fifth one was finished before :_)
20:03 This happened to me when I was participating in a MAP: watched it, didn't see my part where I knew it should be, got upset, commented, then realised later "oh wait the host just out my part in the wrong place"
Ok I have ONCE put the parts in the "wrong" order, but it was on purpose. I has a section that was basically a montage with a very loose script, all the parts were same length and had very similar music as well. When I was editing, I switched around some parts to make the montage flow better. This was intentional but as this was pre-Discord era and communication was a bit harder, I spooked at least one participant in a similar manner as your experience :,D
PLEASE, I wish more people regarded this! I've joined a bundle of MAP's when I was younger, and through doing so *THREE out of FOUR* projects were ghosted. It was really unfair to the artists and myself who've joined, and despite working so hard on our parts we've had to end up dealing with the Host's abandonment, or cancelling it all together. It can be a very hard thing, and it can be stressful dealing with submissions and drawbacks, but with that being said, DON'T BITE OFF MORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW. Please think ahead and regard that this is a project that multiple people are working hard on, regardless of how many submissions there maybe. Some of these Host's did put out these works more obscurely, which is why they ended up being left off. As a past MAP attendee, the one thing that always dooms a MAP is impulsiveness and lack of communication. This was long, but I can't stress enough how stressful it was having it be a reoccuring thing. I heavily appreciate the animations that I've made, but I'd just wish better for the works it was hosted by.
OMG this is so useful T_T. Hosting MAPs has always been so challenging for me because I will like... spend months developing one and making sure it all okay... Post it... AND THEN SUDDENLY EVERYTHING IS GOING WRONG. T_T. I remember for one of my MAPs my entire script got deleted somehow out of nowhere and I had to put it on pause because I had 0 backups and to be quiet frank I could hardly remember it OOPS. Even years later I still dream of bringing that MAP back... It was my pride and joy
Also honestly the communities jump to discord server usage is still something I cannot get used to HELP... I can set a server up but after years of not being a host the jump from communicating over youtube exclusively to needing 50 different websites just to keep up with the modern process is crazy to me. I'm still an old fashioned "combs through comments to pick participants" host
Something that the MAP hostess did that pulled a project I was on was back up and do a recall! A successful MAP that I was in didn't have too many people submitting when it initially came out, but the Host was really kind and openly aware about this! Even past 2 years, they Re-announced the project to a bigger audience, and brought more people in then it did before! Next thing you know it saved the project, and it was such an exciting thing to see come together! :D Another thing that I saw from another UA-camr was by Ms1Sharklee, where they didn't have enough people joining in so they edited and spliced parts together in fill in space that couldn't make it! It was super creative, and something I think more people should pick up on when saving a project! Please, again! I know I've said a lot but I'm just really compassionate about this stuff-
i don’t animate anymore but i used to animate around 4 years ago, i joined a MAP which seemed pretty amateur but at the time, i liked the song and my part so i took a spot near the very end. There were about like 30 spots which is really hopeful in hindsight. My part didn’t take me too long if i remember correctly and there were already around 10 people in the MAP when i started. I sent in my part and by that time there were only a few other people who were finished and there were still some open spots. I remember checking it around a year after i sent in the video and it still wasn’t finished, still with open spots, i left a comment looking for a follow up but i don’t know if anyone responded. It’s been 4 years since i finished my part and i can’t find the video anymore i have no clue what happened to it, i just remembered this because of a project for school.
ohhh that last bit about sending participants nice comments that were left on the finished map is a great idea actually. definitely doing that in the future!
this video was the saving grace for a project idea ive had in my mind for almost a year now. the mega-map im currently drowning in (affectionate) had been in the backburner all the way up until october when i decided to give this video a rewwatch for the funny. timing worked out scarily well since the month before i posted the call, the entire community it was for revived itself with a sequel album being release by a guy who had his music featured in the source material and a whole ass manga being announced based on said source. first saw this remake when it came out and didnt think much of it. when i saw this video again in late 2023 in i took the advice to heart, ditched the youtube comment section, and speedran all the assets for the call so i could finally make my dream come true. the call itself is still new and little progress compared to the rest of the map has been made, but the pace the participants are going at are motivating me to continue pushing and are givig me high hopes for the project. theyre all very nice and they have been the best people ive worked with so far. just wanted to say that about them also shameless plugin omori fans go join my map or else you get the pizza /nsrs /lh
I'm really grateful for this video. It helped me figure out that I wanted my first MAP to be none other than It's Over, Isn't It? to celebrate Steven Universe's 10th anniversary. It's from a popular show that's celebrating an anniversary this year AND a 2-ish minute song that I can split into ~20 scenes (which isn't a lot compared to other MAPs), so to me it's a great choice!
This is honestly really helpful for me, I used to (and still do sometimes) start maps just completely out of impulse, which resulted in me having about 7 different maps all running and only 1 being finished. This time after WANTING to make it and working on it for a few months with friends, I finally released a map I actually care about, I made sure to set all the rules, a server, colour palettes, everything. I’m happy with how it’s coming along so far, the only issue it the sheer amount of parts the map has in general (it’s an 8 minute long song so there’s 58 parts total) and with my following it might take a while to get people to join, but other than that, I’m glad I could learn and grow as a map host and I hope I can improve more in the future! If anybody is interested, it’s an anything colour palette map using the song “Take Me Back To Eden” by Sleep Token, there’s still many parts open to take if any of you are interested :]
Oh boy, I made an obscure concept for a MAP and I thought it wouldn't work out for a little while even though it was far from my first hosted MAP. It's a deity OC MAP, with a lax color palette. Tbh the saving grace was Draikinator joining the MAP and tons of people coming when they posted their part. Anyways, it was purely down to luck that that MAP worked out, I wouldn't recommed trying it if you have less than like 1k subs, which is my situation. Go for something more general but still creative!
Out of curiosity, where would a fakemon map lie on the obscurity scale? I figured that it wouldn’t be too bad since pokemon is a massive franchise and the fakemon segment of the fanbase has a thriving community of artists, but I’ve really been struggling to find participants.
@@scootermcpeanuts6699 i would say it's pretty obscure since most people who know pokemon (aka the general artists) know only the normal ones, but if i were you, i'd join pokemon discord servers that have fakemon channels and see if they have promo channels. at least that would be a way i would use to promote it, but use whichever social media or chatroom you're most famous on or have the most experience with! reddit, amino, etc all work out. amino would be especially helpful, because they definitely have chatrooms or whatever based specifically on fakemon. i checked your channel, though, and i think you're doing well for less than 400 subscribers with an "obscure" map concept. good luck on your endeavors!! map-making can be hard but it pays off especially if it's something your passionate about, even if it takes months to fill up (as it was with my deity oc map lol).
I had this idea for a map about dogewing to the song ‘turn it down’, after thinking about it for a while I started to storyboard it, a few days into storyboarding it I got recommended a map call for the exact same idea that had come out 1 day beforehand 😢, I am just turning it into an animatic now 😊
loved this video! As a map host myself who has hosted a good amount of (successful??) maps all of these informations were extremely useful, THANKFULLY I figured most of them out myself but I think it’s wonderful for less experienced people to have this guide! Great video!
As someone who has hosted several maps, i agree with all your points. One thing I'd like to say is, if you lose motivation for a map, it isn't the end of the world! You're always welcome to ask for someone to rehost (if you have co-hosts, you could ask one of them!). I've had this happen to me personally on several occasions XD
I remember I joined a beginner friendly map one time. My part had lip sync. I spent a LONG time carefully matching it up and getting the timing perfect- the when the map was published there was an editing mistake and my part looked completely out of time. Most frustrated and embarrassed I’ve ever felt.
I already commented but I have something else to say. Even though many of my MAPs don't have deadlines until the very end, they have strict WIP checks, which is a way of getting around that whilst still giving participants their own time.
this is so helpful! despite actually somehow already followed most of the rules this just makes me more confident in myself. although my Map iv hosted is taking over a year to be filled(still hasent), i have plenty of patience. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE TIPS!
I feel like the rules one also depends on your intended audience, like if its aimed at beginners try and include even things that might be obvious to you because it might not be to everyone
Okay, I needed so see this because I want to do a “legs” rainworld MAP for the long legs, and I have no idea how to do that lol. I’m way too nervous, so if you see this comment please help me
I want to host a map and I'm 99.9% sure I can do dis. But my main fear is not being able to put it all together with the editing process. Do you have any sites I could check out which would make my editing process not so scary? Btw this really helped!
I’m planning on editing the map I’m hosting in InShot, I’m not sure if it’s free or not since my mom bought it for me but it is a great editing app in my opinion, I’ve been using it for about 2 years ago
Man, I love your art style, it's so pretty I'm not hosting any maps or a animator, I just like to know this kind of information. Plus I have nothing else to watch and your my favorite warrior cats youtuber lol
This video is very useful! i already hosted MAPs in the past but you gave me a lot of infos on how to do it better in the future ^^. But i have a question, do you have any tips on how to organize a discord server for a MAP? like what channels should the server have and how many?, what would be very useful and important to have there?
This is kind of up to personal preference, but I usually like to have: - announcements - introductions - general - rules/references/resources etc. - questions - wips - finished parts - part list - backups - advertising - off-topic If any of these are not obvious I can further explain what they're for
@@Northflowo ohh i See that helps a lot thanks! Could you maybe explain Backups then? I mean yes i know what Backups are for but how do you manage them in the MAP and discord
@@KorosuMegami Some people don't have a seperate backups channel, but I prefer to have one; it's simply the channel where I ask if any backup would like to pick up a part that's opened. This is useful if you have a lot of backups and want to wait a while to them apply, so you can have all their messages neatly in the same place rather than get mixed with messages from other channels
I know I’m late but here is another don’t that happened to one of my friend’s map, Don’t forget to say the code word if there is one Some maps contain something like a code word and there was this one person who joined the discord server of the map and then asked for a part and said something like this: “I don’t need to say the code word because I’m asking for part (something)” But dw they were banned from the server
Haven't hosted but have joined before, I think once I kinda had a ghost host. :'D I took too long on my part and missed the deadline even after posting a WIP so that's completely on me, they did remove me from the project and I don't blame them for it a bit. What was weird though was that I didn't find out I was removed until I had an "oh crap" moment randomly one day, went and looked at the MAP call, and found out that I had been removed without any kind of notice. Like they didn't even reply to my application comment saying I was removed or anything, which I did check just to see if i missed a notif. So that wasn't great, even if it was understandable. x'D (Especially since half of the parts were still open when I was removed; it wasn't a super popular call and nobody else had taken my part by the time I checked. Again still my fault for not making the deadline and forgetting to communicate as well, but it was still weird.) So yeah don't ghost people, hosts *or* joiners!! xD Thank you for taking the time to share your wisdoms with the masses 🙌
@@Zeruk It's not weird that they kicked me. It's weird that I had to find that out myself after the fact when there wasn't even a "you've been dropped for missing the deadline" note anywhere. No check in whatsoever. They aren't obligated to say "hay are you still there or dropping??" and see if I reply within a day or two before kicking me (which they didn't do either), it's still my responsibility to keep track of deadlines, but it would be nice of them not to go completely radio silent or just assume that their participants wouldn't respond if they reached out to check in before or at the deadline. It's definitely not Unusual for hosts and participants to just Not talk to each other, but it still doesn't feel great for the host or participants. There's a tip in this video that talking to your participants (and I'm sure there's a tip in the other video about how participants should communicate with their hosts) is a good thing, and this kind of thing is why. Both sides of the equation are human, and while it doesn't make anyone a Bad host if they don't give a million reminders, if nobody ever talks to anyone ever then it makes for some pretty robotic transactions during something that's supposed to be fun and artistic lmao There's definitely more contact between hosts and joiners these days than there used to be, though, and that's a good thing.
Quick question, I've always wondered, and never heard it mentioned, h o w do you edit a map together? Do you put all the parts together and overlay the music on top or something?? Always wondered, I waited for this video to come out to ask
I’ve edited three maps together (but haven’t posted them yet). I put the original map call into the software, then overlay all the parts on top of the call video. To make sure all the parts are synced up, I keep the sound on for both the parts and the base audio. If it has an echo, it’s not synced right. For any parts that are too long or too short, ask your participants what they would like to do about it. Typically you can cut, add, and slow down/speed up parts to make them fit- BUT CHECK WITH THE PARTICIPANT FIRST! In these situations, it helps to have an exact time stamp of how long the part should be. I mute all the audio, then add the original audio file that I used for the map call over top of it to keep everything crisp and uniform. Then you can add watermarks and any finishing touches! You can also add in your ending sequence (if you have one) and you’re good to go. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR EDITING SOFTWARE BEFORE PUTTING YOUR MAP TOGETHER . I’ve found it helps SO much!! I use CapCut and it works great, it’s free, and doesn’t have any watermarks. I’m really sorry if this is a bit difficult to understand, I’m not very good at explaining ^^’
CrimsonCoyote's explanation is decent. Video editing is not rocket science and MAPs aren't really hard at all to edit together, as long as you have some basic experience with video editing.
@@maracuya84 I’m so glad that helped!! Northflower is right, you really just need to have basic knowledge of how to put things together. Find a method that works for you and everything should turn out great! :]
Me who hasn't hosted or joined a map since I was a kid, seeing this video and clicking on it despite not making maps anymore: Well.. don't mind if I do!
So I do read wings of fire! I think most people who read warrior cats would also like the series but doesn’t matter right now. We use code words and the warrior cats community some probably do use code words but it’s a could words hidden in there and they have to say it when they ask for the part.
I made my first map impulsively and didn't think about it for more then a day at max. Right now I been thinking of a map idea for more than 5+ months. I been checking if people have done it.
Asking map hosts abt the google documents most of the map hosts have a document with scripts and rules and designs on google documents so how do i do that? 😶
Me watching this and casually posting 18 maps within 4 months: Idk what your talking bout Edit: it kinda worked? 7 are currently completed, 2 are temporarily cancelled, most are closed.
I once tried to host a Halloween map and it failed miserably because almost no one joined and that one person who joined, didn’t even finish there part. I POSTED THE VIDEO IN AUGUST!!!
11:29 I DON'T WANT TO INSTALL DISCORD, TWITTER OR SOMETHING ELSE, this rule of MAPs has always annoyed me, and I don't want to be the next one I think I prefer Gmail
As someone who is planing and is going to do a M.A.P call soon in there channel this helps me to see if what i know (from seeing other M.A.P calls) if im doing this right also just one question: for the map im making i'm letting the people that will work on there parts have a 2 week deadline (if they need more time i can extend it but they need to ask first) what im saying is that is my deadline too short or do i need to make it a bit longer (sorry this is my first map im working on :")
2 weeks is not a very long time to make a MAP part, although that depends on the type of map, how long the parts are etc. If you're having a deadline that is this short then you might want to include something like "2 week map" in the title.
I’m thinking of hosting a MAP, I haven’t watched the full video yet as I am in school but I am not much of an artist let alone an animator. Does it matter if I am an artist/animator? Can I still host a map even if I am not strong in those sections? I am not thinking of animating for the MAP, I’ve just seen a lot of MAPS hosted by other animators/artists and IDK. Also, for character designs/refs what should I do if I don’t draw?
Ok so 1. You can, although it's usually good to be an animator yourself so you'll be able to take the animator experience into account while planning, so that you'll be able to attract participants easier AND so that you can make parts for the project too. I've seen non-animators successfully host maps before but they've usually been internet famous to begin with 2. Hmm. Use a base maybe? Although the character designs for my earlier maps were definitely pretty unappealing, artistically - that doesn't matter as long as the participants can still read them
Gonna make a map to the song kiss me (kill me) in a relatively new community called dandys world. There are many many experienced and good animators and the parts range from 4-13 seconds each depending on music. It’s semi-beginner friendly, do you think this will work out?
Anyone have tips for finishing parts then dropping out cause the host is a bad person? That happened to me.. The host has informed me that they screen recorded it and downloaded it. I really don't want my art in their map ;_; they support geuse (straight Boyz map host) so I dropped out. Im really panicked right now and tips would help.
Does anyone have tips on what to do for finding participants for a semi-obscure MAP? I wanted to host a fakemon map for a while, which isn’t the most well known topic, but I really want to complete it considering there hadn’t been any fakemon maps before despite the community around them being so large. Problem is my channel is extremely small despite the fact that I’ve been animating here for over 3 years now. What should I do?
my first map idea is based on my oc but also has many familiar charaters (its an undertale oc) i think undertale fandom members would be able to understand since 95% of the fandom is all fan made and ocs do you think it would work
I really wish I could join your map if you ever do another one or just any map but I don’t think I can. I love animating, and I dreamed of being in a map part but I don’t know. ( this was a year ago and I’m literally about to host a map XD )
I wanna make a map, but I personally can't animate. I can draw pretty well, but if I needed to animate a part as replacement I'd have to ask my dad who animates to teach me. Would this still be okay?
People who don't animate do host maps from time to time, but that's really hard to pull off if you don't already know that you have enough participants to fill the parts
If I do not know how to animate myself, can I still host a map? I can draw still images for designs and whatnot but I do not have the skill to animate.
I'm no north-flower but I have hosted a few maps before. I say yes, you can as long as you have a solid understanding of how animation works despite not having the skillset to actually do it, although it may be better to start off with a PMV map for a first map if your skills reside with still-images.
I'M CRYING I FUMBLED SO BAD CUZ OF SOCIAL ANXIETY- i couldn't find their discord (it wasn't linked in the desc) so now I'm just over here panicking if I made a bad impression for asking questions aughhh I feel so embarassed for being a newbie
I joined a MAP btw its called GOD-ish if anyone else is interested, its been dead for a year till someone I subbed to posted video part of it. By AceJascent btw :'D
There's no specific server - if you have joined a map before that had a discord server attached, then those often have a channel specifically reserved for advertising
Hi! So like I've never taken part of a map, as many unfinished maps are not beginner friendly or pmvs, I try to find them but can't, so I'm trying to make my own map or pmv. This is a alt account as I am not very popular and don't wanna show my identity so bye! Edit: I forgot to ask if it will still work if I never was in a map😨 Edit2: honestly i forgot if pmv was the one with only pictures- so uhhh... correct me if wrong
I was in a map and I have to tell the host that I had to delete my channel one I did they asked me too re uploud it so they could save / download it in like bro its gone 😐
I’ve never hosted a map before but I would say you should definitely try to post some of your animations on your channel and gain some subscribers (which isn’t always easy) before hosting a map, that way there is some people that will see your map call and want to join. if you post a map call out of the blue it’s likely it will not get much attention and people might not join
How do we know whether or not a song will be completely blocked worldwide? I saw that mentioned in the video and wondered. I don't plan on monetizing the MAP, but I want to make sure it won't get yeeted to the void.
@@Northflowo Perfect idea, thank you! I can see from my past videos that the "Copyrighted" label is different than the "Partially Blocked" label on UA-cam.
hi people! I’m hosting a map myself currently and I’d love people to check it out.. I have a small channel and I really don’t have much hope in the algorithm, so I’ve been trying to comment and post about it, thanks! Good luck to everyone who is hosting a map!
I know youtube tries very hard to convince you otherwise, but if you don't care about making money (for which it would be kind to notify participants), it's usually ok for your map to get copyright claimed.
Might be a good idea to upload a test video with the same audio in advance. Most copyright claims simply stop the host from earning revenue, but sometimes they might restrict the video in other ways.
Heh it’s been almost a year now and I’m still sour about it-
Anyways when that happened I lost the video. Annnnnndd that’s why I just enter maps, and not host them.
I'm just glad that you two aren't, like, at each other's throats about it. I watched and enjoyed both maps :>
@@izzyxvibes that’s so sad! Maps really be like that sometimes :/
----
So MY addition to the Do's and Don'ts:
If you're going to host a beginner-friendly MAP -
DO make sure the participants you choose are capable of what you're planning on asking them, or if you can't be too picky about participants,
DON'T be surprised/upset if the parts are not perfect.
I struggle with that one as well. My old MAPs were off timed although the actual animations in their parts were perfectly in sync with the audio
Thank you I nearly forgot o add that to the description I added it now though
I know that it's been a year but I've got a question. How do you download videos from UA-cam without needing to pay for them? It's been saying that when I tried to and I came to this video to see if there was a solution.
@@CreatureCreations- I use a vpn/adblock and look up a UA-cam to mp3 converter!
@@CreatureCreations-I'm a little late, but, you can screenrecord the video and then edit it in, if you don't have UA-cam Premium!
You should know "commenteetus deletus" and" Blocked from channel yeetus" are now becoming regular parts of my vocabulary
For my first map that i hosted, i surprisingly followed most of these despite it being impulsive and made right on the spit without any planning or reasearch.

Agreed! ^^
My first MAP was a MASSIVE mistake...
Here are some of the mistakes I found I made that I changed in my newest one:
I only posted on UA-cam instead of UA-cam, Facebook, AND Instagram
I didn't add tags
I didn't set ANY rules
I didn't set a script
I didn't post character designs
I built it off of impulse instead of wanting to do it
In my newer MAP, I:
Shared it on Facebook as well as UA-cam
I added plenty of tags
I set rules
I set a script (pretty detailed to ensure there's no confusion)
I posted character designs
I WANTED to do it
I currently have 7/30 parts filled in under a month! Pretty happy for my first (successful) MAP
Know that pain my first MAP was too even when it had rules people didn't finish their parts
The sucessfull one was the fourth one but fifth one was finished before :_)
@@Northflowo how can I find your discord server?
@@EnterJester I don't have one! I only make one if I'm hosting a map, and even then it's for the participants and backups only
@@Northflowo oh ok thanks
As someone who is...honestly scared to host a Multi Animation Project...
This is very helpful. Thank-you for it.
Three?
*rookie numbers, my friend. Rookie numbers*
yeah, the first map I was in got abandoned as well. Too many people left and there weren’t enough backups. It was cancelled before I could finish.
Another thing that I saw from another UA-camr was by Ms1Sharklee, where they didn't have enough people joining in so they edited and spliced parts together in fill in space that couldn't make it!
It’s been 4 years since i finished my part and i can’t find the video anymore i have no clue what happened to it, i just remembered this because of a project for school.
ohhh that last bit about sending participants nice comments that were left on the finished map is a great idea actually. definitely doing that in the future!
this video was the saving grace for a project idea ive had in my mind for almost a year now. the mega-map im currently drowning in (affectionate) had been in the backburner all the way up until october when i decided to give this video a rewwatch for the funny. timing worked out scarily well since the month before i posted the call, the entire community it was for revived itself with a sequel album being release by a guy who had his music featured in the source material and a whole ass manga being announced based on said source.
first saw this remake when it came out and didnt think much of it. when i saw this video again in late 2023 in i took the advice to heart, ditched the youtube comment section, and speedran all the assets for the call so i could finally make my dream come true. the call itself is still new and little progress compared to the rest of the map has been made, but the pace the participants are going at are motivating me to continue pushing and are givig me high hopes for the project. theyre all very nice and they have been the best people ive worked with so far. just wanted to say that about them
also shameless plugin omori fans go join my map or else you get the pizza /nsrs /lh
1:15 my mind immediately went to the we are warriors map that went through 3 host changes 💀
As someone who is thinking about hosting a MAP of my own, this video was very helpful. Thank you for explaining everything clearly and simply.
If you make a map I would love to join
Thank you for this! As someone who's been wanting to host MAPs before I even had a youtube channel, this was very helpful!
I’m not even planning of ever hosting a map but I watched this and thoroughly enjoyed it
This is honestly really helpful for me, I used to (and still do sometimes) start maps just completely out of impulse, which resulted in me having about 7 different maps all running and only 1 being finished.

This video was so helpful! I am currently hosting a map and this made it so much easier.
I already commented but I have something else to say. Even though many of my MAPs don't have deadlines until the very end, they have strict WIP checks, which is a way of getting around that whilst still giving participants their own time.

- announcements
- introductions
- general
- rules/references/resources etc.
- questions
- wips
- finished parts
- part list
- backups
- advertising
- off-topic

Oh! This is just what I needed!
Again still my fault for not making the deadline and forgetting to communicate as well, but it was still weird.) So yeah don't ghost people, hosts *or* joiners!! xD
Thank you for taking the time to share your wisdoms with the masses 🙌
i mean if u miss the deadline and dont respond the host is allowed to kick u lol its not weird tbh
Both sides of the equation are human, and while it doesn't make anyone a Bad host if they don't give a million reminders, if nobody ever talks to anyone ever then it makes for some pretty robotic transactions during something that's supposed to be fun and artistic lmao
There's definitely more contact between hosts and joiners these days than there used to be, though, and that's a good thing.
4:14 this is one of the most fucking irritating things about MAPs omfg
Depending on the MAP I'm making
I either do applications in the discord server or in the comment section
Thanks for the tips tho

Ok so
1. You can, although it's usually good to be an animator yourself so you'll be able to take the animator experience into account while planning, so that you'll be able to attract participants easier AND so that you can make parts for the project too. I've seen non-animators successfully host maps before but they've usually been internet famous to begin with
Have hashtags in video and MOST IMPORTANT THING have in tittle ,, open map" animators search that to join some MAP
@@rednightanimations I included both of those things, so far my best bet has just been to incessantly self-advertise.
@@scootermcpeanuts6699 well that's sad :_)
Oh cool, i was thinking to join one in the near future.
my first map idea is based on my oc but also has many familiar charaters (its an undertale oc) i think undertale fandom members would be able to understand since 95% of the fandom is all fan made and ocs do you think it would work
I really wish I could join your map if you ever do another one or just any map but I don’t think I can.
Yeah I've seen people succesfully pull that off. Having experience with animation yourself is something that's probably good to have though
By AceJascent btw :'D
how do you make a google form?
Can you do a video on how to actually make a MAP?
11:43 So, there’s a Discord Server where I can advertise my MAP project. What’s the name of it? Can I get a link to it? Please?
There's no specific server - if you have joined a map before that had a discord server attached, then those often have a channel specifically reserved for advertising
Hi! So like I've never taken part of a map, as many unfinished maps are not beginner friendly or pmvs, I try to find them but can't, so I'm trying to make my own map or pmv. This is a alt account as I am not very popular and don't wanna show my identity so bye!
Edit: I forgot to ask if it will still work if I never was in a map😨
Edit2: honestly i forgot if pmv was the one with only pictures- so uhhh... correct me if wrong
I was in a map and I have to tell the host that I had to delete my channel one I did they asked me too re uploud it so they could save / download it in like bro its gone 😐
just as i was planning on making a couple maps lmao
me too!
@@door_made_of_wood gl with them :) !
@Rowan•Draws gl with that :D
Random question but what do you use to animate 😂
I have a question: to be a map host do you need to have videos of your animations or you can just create a map call easy?
I’ve never hosted a map before but I would say you should definitely try to post some of your animations on your channel and gain some subscribers (which isn’t always easy) before hosting a map, that way there is some people that will see your map call and want to join. if you post a map call out of the blue it’s likely it will not get much attention and people might not join
How do we know whether or not a song will be completely blocked worldwide? I saw that mentioned in the video and wondered. I don't plan on monetizing the MAP, but I want to make sure it won't get yeeted to the void.
Upload an unlisted video with the song. see if it gets blocked
I used to host two maps on scratch and nobody joined. Even if i use a good quality thumbnail and use good rules
Now the only question that remains is:
How to not get nuked by copyrighted music
I know youtube tries very hard to convince you otherwise, but if you don't care about making money (for which it would be kind to notify participants), it's usually ok for your map to get copyright claimed.
Do you have to worry about copyright for the music inside the map? And is it only for some songs you wont be copyrighted?
Might be a good idea to upload a test video with the same audio in advance. Most copyright claims simply stop the host from earning revenue, but sometimes they might restrict the video in other ways.
@@Northflowo thank you!
Wait I have a question how much should my animation pop up like how much should I animate and how many should I put in the video if you understand
4:20 # relatable
Nice vid! 1 Question, what software program do you put all the finished participant parts in?
I use movie studio platinum 13, but you can use pretty much any program. I edited some of my earliest maps together in windows movie maker
