Don't worry about being hurtful when critiquing. An artist is his own worst critic. Look at it as being a teacher, helpful. I love how your voice carries into your work. Soft and flowing. Thank you for assisting with tips to make our drawings more realistic as what is in our mind's eye.
Me seeing the title of the video: I should definitely send some of my drawings for critics. Me after seeing the first drawing: Never mind. Maybe 30 years down the line. 🙂
Thank you so much for the critique of my drawing of the lion. It was extremely helpful and I could fully get what you meant. Once again it is great how you constantly give us valuable content week after week.
Your critiques are precisely how we were taught to critique in Fine Arts: you are KIND but honest, complimenting first the strengths of each piece, then tactfully and succinctly offering not just VERBAL comments (which was the sole component of a critique available in the early 80's) but it's so HELPFUL to see you ALTER the image using modern tech. A picture is truly worth a thousand words, and whereas formerly, one would seek to understand precisely what the person offering constructive criticism OFFERED, the changes you make to the image give a far more precise demonstration of what you are saying. I have heard MANY "critiques" throughout the decades and whereas some were exploited as an opportunity to be hurtful (wherein another student would NOT post their own work and use the opportunity to be very cruel), more often than not, others provided genuine help, as a new eye can see things one sometimes cannot when working on a piece. YOUR TONE and INTENT are VERY KIND and respectful of the works, the artists and the critique itself. THIS IS PRECISELY HOW to give a "critique" or "constructive criticism" and the world is a better place with such help to others. Well done.
Your voice is so chill I listen to your videos when I'm stressed and I calm down almost instantly. If you ever want to branch into voice acting, all of us will love it.
There seems to a common theme in all the work that is sent in. Jono always darkens it and it pops so much more. The biggest thing I have learnt from watching these is to go darker than you think in the shadows
Cheers mate, thank you for pointing out my hands and apple “rotten apple”.. will keep that in mind, thanks, only took up drawing about 18 months ago as I learned alots from you. Thank you again

Jono this was really helpful. I especially appreciate the segments when you illustrate your advice by drawing on the submission. It is incredibly informative and instructional. Just in this short video I gained two really important tidbits which will help my art improve. 1) pushing the contrast with deeper shadows and intentional, precise highlights can dramatically improve a piece. 2) Pushing myself to go just a bit further with attention to detail can also pay incredible dividends in moving my artwork forward. Have noticed you stepping up the content game. Appreciate you trying new types of content. This one was a definite winner for me and would love to see regular critique vids. (Oh, and I like multiple critiques across a variety of subjects like you did. Really cool)
Thank YOU so much for all you do...especially taking the time out to teach us. I love and have watched the majority of your videos and started to implement the drawing techniques you have suggested. You are so talented 💖.
Thank you Jono for the critique of the dog. You got my name correct - Meaghan (Megan):) I had started with that ear and realized as i went along it was too detailed but did not know how to fix. Getting the blurred areas is almost harder than the fine details. Much appreciated:)

Watching this video, hoping that he might've chosen mine art to critique, but no luck. :) I reckon all the artist that saw their work being critiqued in this video by Jono felt great, and appreciated his words. Thanks Jono for taking time to do this for us as well, besides everything else.
Even though you were critiquing other peoples art I am learning so much from this. And as far as I'm concerned you don't need to fast forward anything. It's more of value to me when I see you draw in "real time". Thanks for being such a great artist and teacher!
I would love if at the end of every critique, for a few seconds, you put a side by side comparison of the before and after. That way I could pause the screen and have a clear view of the differences made. Nevertheless, excellent content! I admire your artistic ability and knowledge.
Hyper realism is tremendous but, my thought is that, as long as it's applied to a piece like what you accomplish where apply an unrealistic composition. A piece doesn't always has to be hyper real when drawing an everyday real life composition. You're tremendous and I watch to see how you work. My osteoarthritis of the thumb has ended my hobby but, I really enjoy your work!!!!!
I am an artist, and I'm always learning new techniques. Your helping me so much. My main problem is pricing my art. I feel I don't sell much because the hardest part is asking what I deserve verses being scared of losing potential clients, because I ask to much or ask to little. I find my confidence plays a big part also. I sometimes don't see my worthy was. And yet I'll look back on my progress and see a piece I created and say wow I did that. I'm not a pro just self taught, but finding your tips I am going to try to see if it will improve my work. Thank your. Your so talented.
The part worthy was was supposed to say worthiness. almost feel my work isn't good enough. I think I work on a piece for so long because I'm looking to be perfect. And while I feel it's not finished or good enough, others see it as great
Hi Jono! I was wondering if you could make a video about your opinions on going to art school. I am trying to decide whether it is worth it or not and would really appreciate your thoughts. loved this video btw.
Hi Jono.. I always look forward to watching your critique videos, it's quite amazing how you see 👀 and what your recommendations are, we get so much value from these so greatly appreciated. I have a little question & please forgive my ignorance, the second piece you critique, where the image gives the illusion of ripped pieces of paper... you mention the technique and called it something but I didn't quite catch it as never heard of it before and would love to know more. I obviously don't expect you to explain, perhaps you could write the name & I'll investigate. As always, thank you so much for all your wonderful advice and help. Blessings Manos ✍
