    I was always happy with Michelin Pilot Road 4 on my bike, but after switching to a set of Road 5 I was very pleasantly surprised: the bike felt so much more neutral, more stable in a straight line as well as leaned over in the corners.

      i dont want to say anything bad about the Michelins, but i got the first tyres on my r1, the pipo 2ct, and i dont felt confident on this tyre. now i got the road attack 3 and this is a whole new Level. maybe the tyre was kinda "old" or something but the whole time felt ist wrong to go low with it.
      i will test the road 5 after the RA3... but im a Little scared and hope its the same Feeling and grip like the RA3

    • @painterboy454
      @painterboy454 6 років тому

      manhunni, I certainty can understand being a little scared with not being confident in the way a new tire is capable of performing. The best way I have learned to test capability is to slowly push more and more until you sense it's now at it's limit as opposed to suddenly finding out a tires limits the hard way...by crashing! Stay safe on your R1!

    • @manhunni
      @manhunni 6 років тому +1

      i tested a lot of tyres. first on my r6 now on the r1 but the stock tyres are the first tyres i tested from Michelin. but i dont know every time i tried to get lower than the regular turns, i felt slippery kinda wierd.. dont know if the tyre wasnt like it should be or its the Michelin way im not confident with.
      but i like the new design from the road 5. and the Slick part. so ill have to make new experience about Michelin tyres and give them a try

    Nice review. I have my 2nd set of Michelin Pilot road 2's still on my 1999 Honda CBR600F4 and I'm thinking of getting these tires. I do a lot of long rides and I like the fact these tires last a long time. I can't even remember when I put that 2nd set of road 2's on my bike.

    I bought a pair for my GSX 1250 FA and straight off I noticed the difference from my Pirellis, so much more confidence in the twisties and you can certainly feel the stiffer sidewall. Prior to this hitting a bump with the back wheel while cornering imparted a "dutch roll" type effect on the bike.. that's now gone and the bike tracks true. I can say that these tyres are a major step up from the Diablo's I was running, and prior to that the Angel GT's. As for me I ride about 25000 klm's a year and it's 80% twisties and the other 20% is getting to the twisties.

    The pilot 5 is a very sporty tyre, the contact patch on the lean is massive and the edge has a wide slick band. They will lean over a lot further than I have the courage to do

    I did a video about the PR4 and got slated by it when I said it squirmed in hot dry weather. The PR4s were a brilliant tyre in the wet and cold winter time, much better than my current Metzeler Roadtec 01's. I'll try out the new PR5's and hope they live up to tge wet performance of its predecessor.

  • @DearMajesty
    @DearMajesty 6 років тому +1

    I just want to see some thrashing action so you can comment about performance at the limit. I think Michelin took the Road 5 in a direction that I think most people wanted. The Road 3/4's were lacking in grip. Wasn't really considering them for the Versys I just picked up....but maybe now.

    URLs don't have backslashes in them, they have slashes.
    / is a slash and \ is a backslash. You'll never see the latter in a URL, although it's frequently used when referring to the location of a file on a hard drive or similar.

    Cool video. Maybe you'll get to really push them on the track. Chaparral Motorsports is an awesome company to deal with. Glad to see they're sponsoring you. I've gotten some tires through them in the past.
    Not sure what other angles you can shoot from, but the voice over while you test them is cool. That way if something happens we can watch it happen while you explain it.

    I think Mich is probably right that these will be a good "road" tire for many people, but the "Pilot Road" name has been synonymous with sport touring for a long time now. I expect silica and tread to near the edges on sport touring tires.
    Last year, I had to haul ass over Cherohala as Irma was passing over. Freezing cold, winds whipping around at 60 mph or so, leaves and limbs blown all over the road, and pouring rain. My Road Smart IIIs never missed a beat. My annual trek for fried trout will not be interrupted by a petty little level 4 hurricane!
    OTOH, I don't have a super high hp bike nor do I ride race track speeds. For people that do, this one probably makes a lot more sense.

    Hey Man how are you? That video was awesome 🤙🏾I just bought a set of those Michelin’s 5s For my 07Fjr very nice tire in rain 🌧 I rode through 3 storms on them already and absolutely perform the way a skilled rider wants I’m 46years old been riden bikes since I was 19years old and these are by far the best bike tires out right now for sport and touring riders I’m 💯 percent satisfied with them on rainy days here in the Midwest and sunny days ! I would love to break those tires in for The Michelin corporation and give my feedback thanks Michelin again for the pilot 2salso on my 03 R1🤙🏾🤙🏾!!

      Great question - I haven't ridden on the RSIII's yet so I can't give you a definitive answer. But understanding how Dunlop and Michelin currently engineer its tires, I'd presume that the Dunlop's will likely be more rigid-feeling than the Michelin's. Michelin's will also likely be superior in full rain conditions.

    • @robertvilliard6768
      @robertvilliard6768 3 роки тому

    I went with a set of Michelin Commander II and waiting for delivery. The front was or is a Dunlap and the rear a Shinko 777 which are worn out. These were put on by the previous owner. Here is a neat calculator I found on the internet that might help someone out on comparing tire sizes.

  • @denisrailey777

    Not for GT bikes. Too soft. Wore out front while rear 50% worn at 4k kms. Pirellis Angel GTs better grip & longer life.

    • @raysup

      Congrats on buying the wrong tire. The Road 5's were designed for smaller sport bikes like the Street Triple, MT-07/09 etc. The Road 5 GT's were designed for the bigger touring bikes. Classic case of user error.

      i picked up some Dainese gloves last week and I normally wear Aplinestars, but fuck me depending on what model Aplinestar glove it was depended on what size fitted, from extra large to medium and at no time did my hands leave my wrist.. but the Dianese gloves fitted perfectly, have a longer gauntlet that now fits over my jacket sleeve and a lot more feel.

      Adam Waheed Hey Adam, can I ask your opinion? I need to make a choice relatively soon for some sporty sport-touring tires for the Versys 650. I'm a big fan of the Bridgestone T30 and T30 Evo from when I've ridden on them. Highly grippy with excellent feedback and last a long time. Always thought the Michelin Road 3/4's were lacking in grip, which I need since I ride aggressively. How do the road 5's compare? Also have you tried the new T31?Any thoughts? Cost, longevity, and performance is of consideration. Bridgestone has some sweet rebates....I can get a set of T31's for $210 shipped or a set of S21's for $165, which is hard to argue with and I may just pick one of those up. What's your opinion?
