I love your style, your videos, your encouragement, and your humor! At 65, I’d lost my husband and was caring for my father, who was still stylish at 104. I’d long stopped caring about my appearance. Until my dad politely mentioned it - lol. Then I saw myself in a family photo. I was packing that extra 20 pounds from 2020, and yes, I was wearing a flowered dress I had no business wearing. The 20 pounds have gone, and I’m paying attention to my wardrobe. All I can say is what worked for me was omitting sugar and refined foods - if it came from a factory, I avoid it. It simply makes me feel unwell. Even my sinus issues are almost nonexistent now. I didn’t realize how bad I felt until I felt better. Now I like feeling better. I like looking good. I care again! Nobody is more surprised than I am - lol!

      Your Dad is/was 104!
      That's incredible!!
This gives me hope for the future, for my parents and other family members, who are entering mid to late eighties and early nineties.
A big part of my fears is that life is over at that point, and their time is rapidly coming to a close (which it could be, but it's nice to know that there is still hope.)
Somewhere along the way we can lose our zest for life.
Making changes to our diet can definitely help, even for a short while, while we get back on track.

I am so encouraged by your story! I am 57 with a pot belly after 2 pregnancies. I have to do a lot of speaking assignments and l am am self concious. My clothes do not fit right. I am not sure about what colors l should wear. This year, l decided that l will not be frumpy. My daughter recently cut my hair. Looks nice, but l must learn how to style. I do want to look elegant. I cut sugar many years ago and am doing intermittent fasting now for 3 years, but not losing weight as l thought l would. Have to figure my next move. So encouraged, though by your story.

I think investing in really good bra, underwear, and undergarments at our age is KEY. So much of frump is due to having droopy look under your clothes. Also update your shoes and hair. Lastly - clothes MUST be tailored or FIT you properly. Frump is born out of ill-fitting clothes and when you're older you have less wiggle room to pull it off - because baggy clothes + baggy body = frump. Get your undergarments sorted stat!

Thanks for sharing this, I am in the same boat. I live in the US but I am from Italy. I grew up just embracing a proper form, a way of respecting self and others ( fare la bella figura). Somehow, it translate to always being " overdressed" when for me it is just casual elegant comfort on a daily basis and on the proper occasion straight chic. Somehow it has become threatening to others when we are elegant ladies...I have not given in but, admittedly, it makes me feel a bit isolated.

Very sound advice. My only quibble is that I look 100% fabulous in bright Barbie pink. Barbie pink is the epitome of overly juvenile unsophisticated color. Fuchsia, hot pink, raspberry pink, light pink, soft nude pinks, any cool pinks (coral, not so much) drops ten years from my face. I wear a simple grey skirt and a pink cashmere sweater and men young enough to be my son make passes. Red is a good "also ran" and also excites male interest (I am a widow, this is important to me). So... even though I wish dearly that my best color is unsophisticated, I wear my juvenile pinks. I wear very sophisticated colours relieved by a bright splash of a pink scarf or a pink blouse peeking out of my navy blazer. 🤷🏻‍♀ Love your channel - keep up the good work!

But not anymore, and the skirts are getting longer, but the heels shorter haha! I didn t noticed much of the menopause luckily, but my body shape is changing, so my clothes as well. I do not care what the others think of me, but I do care how I look, just for myself. Never walked like a joke on street, never will do. My guilty pleasure is hard rock and heavy metal, I go to live gigs and rock clubs. And guess what, there I can still wear crazy things like leather skirt, high boots and leather jacket, panther print shirts plus some chains and leather wrist bands😆😛Just because nobody cares and everybody is dressed like that! Yep menopause, I got sick of the weight creep and decided to do something about it. Build muscle, I don't mean huge muscles but enough to protect your bones and improve your basal metabolic rate. It has taken me the better part of a year but without changing my eating habits I now have so much more energy and I can fit into all of my pre-menopause clothes. Also my BP is down, my resting heartrate is down and so is my cholesterol. If I had have been better at dieting things might have happened faster but personally, I want to enjoy a glass of wine and not cut carbs out of my diet. I agree, even though we have to get older we don't have to dress like our grandmothers did.

In my teens and twenties I wore a lot of pink in all its glorious shades and lots of scarlet. Now many years later I tend more toward deeper shades- jewel tones, I get a lot of compliments when I wear shades of wine, burgundy, plum. I love brighter colors but now wear them as accents instead of all over. Black has always been my neutral and it pairs well with so many colors. I find it more versatile than any other color.

I think the issue of bright colors is not that simple, I color bright winter and I need intense and bright colors to look good and young. When I look older and faded, it's with beige, for example. I also wear neutral, I hope I avoid completely neutral looks because it's better for me, but I'm not the only colorist who needs color. By the way, I am romantic in style (but in the most kibbe sense of romantic), with a bit of natural and a bit of classic. Fits my hourglass well too so happy

I’m 100% American 😂😂😂 But Ooooh girl!!! You make me miss my working days around the many snooty French … I mean international (saying with love & appreciation ❤️😉😂) bosses & coworkers who pushed me to be my best self. Always tell people “I grew up n Queens, NY but I was born on 5th Ave & 57th St” My blood sweat and tears are still there. 🤔 Did we work together in the 90s? Or have I ever done your hair or makeup? Lol Your voice sounds like home to me 😉☺️

Hi Frederique. I couldn’t agree more about tie dye. I didn’t like it in the ‘70’s and dislike it even more now, even for young women.
As I was watching I was thinking how gorgeous that colour is in your top. It’s so flattering to your skin tone. You even mentioned skin tone. It’s so important to wear what suits us. As I’m getting older I think I suit navy more than black. I like both though and still do wear black.
Fit is very important. I really dislike dresses that are skin tight. I don’t think having dresses hugging the backside it’s flattering but I know some people will disagree. Skimming yes, on someone with a great figure but clinging, no.
It’s very true that a lot of fashion for women over 40 is ugly. The manufacturers use cheap fabrics too, with lot of hideous prints and styles. That’s why I stick to classic style but I’d love to have a bit more femininity without looking silly.
Apparently I’m a romantic body type in the Kibbie method. I think anyway. It’s hard to judge. It would be great if you could do a video on personal styles. Thanks for the chat!

You really are my favorite French fashion blogger, you resonate positivity and sisterly vibes . You are high spirited and fun to watch. And what I like most is , that you don’t come a cross as patronizing and condescending. I’ve always had a good figure, but now and in my sixties, my figure is way better then it has ever been , I’m tall , slim with no lumps and bums to bee seen , and that’s , because when in my early phase of menopause , I started to work hard on my body through regular exercise. So , it is possible not only to keep he same figure you had in your twenties , but to have even a better one . Though, I find myself agreeing with you on almost everything, I have to disagree about your stance on the color pink , it is so refreshing , I love it and goes so well with my skin tone . I’m a grandmother of five, but on so many occasions, when I’m with my handsome son , people confuse me with his wife !! I must admit, it is such a moral booster!! The thing is , look after yourself and stay away from granny look and demeanor , and you’d be cool.

Bonjour Frédérique, since I watch your videos I have regained confidence in myself. I must say I also lost some weight and feeling thinner at the waist makes a huge difference as I can tuck in now! Yeah! Btw, for me like many, it was the "white " carbs which made me feel bloated and gain weight: no more white bread (being French it's a challenge), white pasta, or white rice either. I feel better and I look better. I always had the wardrobe staples in my closet and your many videos about how to mix and match them have been so helpful ! Each time I wear one of your suggestions, I get compliments 😉, and now it's almost every day because I finally dare to wear pieces I one thought were overdressed. They're not, they're simple and classy, yet modern and they make me feel so good! Thanks again for voicing nicely the truth, and all the hard work to put up these videos. Keep them coming, je ne m'en lasse pas!

Thank you for making this video. I am 50 and my body just suddenly has a life of its own. I realised everything i do (go gym 2-3 times a day, intermittent fasting, breathing air) will add 1 more kilo to my already ballooning weight. In my 20s, i was 49-50kilos, and during Covid i started putting on weight andd i suspected also having peri-menopause, and after Covid the weight just continue to climb and i am now 61.9kg!!Hearing you encountering all these hormones and how not to give up and stop wearing flowery night gown😅 really cheered me up. and the food part too. With age comes IBS and all sorts of gassy and bloated symptoms. It is so frustrating and demoralising. I am so glad you made this video for me who is over 50 and about to give up this fight.

There are some clothing pieces in extreme colours that look classy. I have a long hot pink tailored wool coat form Zara and it looks very chic. For me pairing a strong stand out colour with a tailored fitting is very chic. Especially if I see a woman in wiser years in a stand out colour paired nicely with neutrals I think oh this woman is a fashionista.

For part of my life, I've always had to be look stylish. I'm in the entertainment field.
I do think that wearing colors (in solids) brightens you up. Just one piece like a blouse or nice tee.
I don't know WHY "mature" women are so afraid of color. It baffles me! The right colors for your skin tones make you look younger. I'm 68 and I look so much better, even without makeup in fuschia, purples, wines, reds, royal blues, even emerald! If I wear too much black, I look tired and if i wear camel, people ask me if I'm ok, LOL!
BTW, just my opinion: Camel is for Coats. Period.
Great advice, Frederique!. I love "don't give a sh*t"!!!! I do love my statement jewelry! I'll wear a black tee or trtlneck (or navy or grey) with a statement necklace and jeans.
Videos like yours and Marie-Anne Lecour (?) have really helped me to stop being such a frump in my "regular" life too! Thanks!

Dear Frederique, merci de le dire comme ça...I think this is the translation for "thank you for saying it like it is". I absolutely agree with you on how common are poor choices with color/ patterns / shapes and how much they de- elevated . We need more direct and not politically correct messages like yours. It is not just about buying more expensive clothes, it is about learning a proper form that fits the occasion and your body type. I grew up in Italy where we learn that we should strive to " fare la bella figura" ( I am not sure if in french you have a similar expression but essentially it means to be well put together ) and it is a way to respect yourself and others. But I live now in the US ...I can tell you that nothing has changed in the 30 years that I have been here despite YT videos, fashion services, courses on elegance. Of course, there are always exceptions and I am sure your viewers are in this group. However, I do not know about Australia, my observation is that social norms ,customs and cultures are really hard to change.

Wear what makes you feel good. Color is important and can be paired with a neutral. I used to wear only black and white until i realized I looked like a waiter and when I wore a color I got more compliments. Don’t be afraid of color.

But one those two months are over, it’s back to my solids and neutrals. I’m 59.
