There are so many examples of how to do this on here and I have to say this is the best one of the lot for its clear and concise approach. Big thumbs up 👍
I have been a machinist for 15+ years, I have worked on fadal, haas, and fanuc controls. I like your video... but for me there are alot of steps you have that could be done in fewer steps. I rarely ever zero the relative table. In fanuc controls I would simply touch the tool off on selected axis go into my offet enter the radius valve and hit measure. From there manual enter my shift for excess and press input. Haas controls are vary similar in nature, fadal has a utility feature that shifts everything for you. It saves hand jogging the machine up and over to position, inputting into the relative origin, re jogging back to center, re jogging to accommodate for stock material. I typically use a rotating offset indicator because with your electrical contact indicator, how would you indicate on plastics?? But yes your way is a vary practical explanation for a beginner:)
Jacob S. Do you think he will continue making videos? He has a great talent in both machining and teaching! I have learned so much and its added to my career greatly!
I am new to the industry my question is when I make a program offset adjustment how do I know whether to put a positive value or a negative value in the offset X or Y
Like the video Tom . I have to say myself that I usually pick up my X and Y Axis and input my offsets directly into the work offsets screen ( G54 , G55 , G56 ) etc... instead of using the realitive position screen . That eliminates having to input the numbers twice . Just quicker that way . Now I'm not using a electric edge finder . Because of you using a electric edge finder do you have to do it in that sequence ? I'm not sure you do .
Thank you for your job weldone,I'm always impressed with your work.I'm a machinist developing my interest on CNC machines.how will i write a program for threading? Thank you sir.
I've been typing X0 input and isn't working on my old fanuc O-M control, have to see if it has a measure option on the soft input keys tomorrow. Thanks for your help.
Hi Tom Once again thanks for the great videos . If it will be at all possible could you please up load a video setting up a 4th Axis. xyz=0 and an explanation of what to watch out for when running a 4th axis thanks
you could touch off X axis and input x-.3 then set for the offset being used and it calculates automatically. Then touch off Y axis and set to y.3 and it calculates for the y automatically. I used .3 for half of the ball on the edge finder (.2) plus .1 for the material.
Hello Gump2155, Thanks for the feedback. I have a course on basic cnc lathe programming on Udemy. The videos and all other documents are downloadable. Use this code to get the course free. www.udemy.com/cnc-lathe-programming-for-beginners/?couponCode=BASICCNCLATHEGCODE I'd like you to leave feedback Thanks. Tom
I have some runnout in my edge finder so I always rotate the spindle around 80rpm. Of course I need to calculate the virtual diameter of the ball which includes the contribution from the runnout. Do you not pick up any runout in your edge finder? And if not, what brand and model do you have?
Hello Tom.. @ 3:57, you moved the edge finder into the + direction, isnt it suppose to be in the - direction. cus i saw from your machine that moving inwards is "-X" and moving outwards is "+X"...and you moved the edge finder inwards (to keep the center line of the ball over the edge), so i was thinking it should be -0.2 (not sure)... enlighten me on it, i think i am missing something
When he uses the handle to go +X direction, the pallet moves left and the spindle stays in place so now the center of the ball Is on that edge. You have to think of the spindle moving in the +X direction even though its the pallet that's moving.
If your using an edge finder why have the part offset to the left hand side in the jaws.....should be in the middle and you should set a stop up if it’s a batch run
Hello I have a bit of a problem I hope you can help. Help either with info or where to go for info. I was hired as a part time instructor, at Aiken Tech. I am trying to resurrect a 2000 Bridgeport VMC 3020. The controlling unit is a Fanuc 21i series. My problem is the machine will not always go to machine home x 0 y0 z 0 the unit is an ONG unit. I set the machine to jog and press the home and nothing. Any thought would be helpful.
hello from colombia!!! we have a problem with us DOOSAN. i set the offset with 2 different tools but when i test the first tool this goes to zero offset perfectly. but when i change to the secound tool this dosen't go to the Z possition that i had set. please help me!!

I informed to you that I have a chinese CNC milling machine Model No : WN-A850Z Fanuc controller. To changeAPC Battery of machine . referance point shifted. as a result of machine moment towerds X , Y axis is half reduced . So we can't operate the machine for full size towerds X , Y axis. There fore please send a valuable suggestion to solve the problem' Thanking you.
The videos and the study you convey are useful in a good and correct way, I thank you very much for your patience 🙏🏿

Clocking up that vice when you got it perfect is so satisfying
HI Tom I love all your tutorial videos, I have learned a lot . Thank you for making such tutorial. more power
THANK YOU SO MUCH TOM. God bless you!!
Tom thank you so much! Merry Christmas!
Dead simple, super useful.
Thank you.

This is a good refresher for me!!
Omg this is so helpful to a haas baby
Love your videos Tom. Ive watched them all. You got me going in Mastercam. Hope everything is alright. Really hope you get going again. - Jacob S.

Very good 😊
Well done sir ,very useful thanks
I love all your videos are excellent and thank you for doing this
THANK YOU SIR.
hello Tom, i am from VietNam, thank you , have a nice day
I am new to the industry my question is when I make a program offset adjustment how do I know whether to put a positive value or a negative value in the offset X or Y
thank you so much sir!

Yes much faster, imput in direct and input you shift for stock. Save alot of extra hand jogging and manual inputs.
Super sir ,thank you 🙏🙏
What brand of electronic edge finder are you using?
Thanks much appreciated!I am hoping to figure out how to get the z coordinate? please!
I'm always amazed that machinists are so precise in their work, yet insist on using a crescent wrench for just about everything.

Look into thread milling cycles

tom, what mastercam should i install in my computer to start learning?
how to make a hole of the hexagon ?
Hello Tom the machine is a DOOSAN DNM500?
Thanks. Tom

Nice machine! What if you don't have a touch probe - edge finder?
Yup!

how to centre from edge by dial indicator please provide video
Hey... Can any one tell me whats the difference between position page and relative page in control?

if the tool overhang is not same, you'll have to reset the z offset (tool offset) every time you change a tool
Thanks. I fixed the problem using G43 H~
Is Tom still alive? No videos in a long time
yo logro entender gracias a que tiene subtitulo y puedo traducir a español :D
Anyway I could possibly email you a quick question?
No problem. tstikkelman@gmail.com
