- Travel Vlog #76 | Black Sand Beach, Vik, Iceland
We're continuing south on our Ring Road trip in Iceland! We're currently in south Iceland, and this is the perfect place for a road trip. We've been living in a campervan to travel the ring road and have been loving it! Van life Iceland is the best way to see the country in our opinion. Our first stop is Solheimajokull, our first glacier of the trip! This glacier is surrounded by some incredible sights - waterfalls, rifts, canyons, even a small glacier lagoon! After admiring the glacier, we headed towards the southernmost point in mainland Iceland: Dyrhólaey! This is a promontory point that looks like a door in the rock, and the name even means door hill. The outlook at the top of a (slightly sketchy) hill is beautiful, with views of hills, volcanoes, and the ocean. Just a stones throw east, we reached Reynisfjara, AKA, the Black Sand Beach! This is one of Iceland's most popular sights, and for good reason. The crashing waves come right up to massive basalt columns and formations. The landscape of the region almost makes you feel like you're stepping onto another planet. But this area is extremely dangerous as well - because of sneaker waves. For our last stop of the day, we visited Vik, a popular stop on the Ring Road with a population of around 300! There's a beautiful church, as well as many gas and food stops.
We drove the rest of the way towards our campsite in Skaftafell, but of course had to stop to admire horses, the rolling hills, and of course, waterfalls. We're going to be exploring Vatnajokull National Park, one of Iceland's 3 national parks in the next video, so make sure to subscribe!
Thanks for watching :)

Great little spots of South Iceland, will be following you guys - Subscribed :)
Love your coverage on the area! Such a beautiful place. Especially loved all the gulls flying around Dryholaey!
@Matt and Rachel thank you! It's hard to not get good shots there, everything is so beautiful
You really are making me miss Iceland!
Noticed a couple of mistakes - the folklore about the trolls and the ship apply to Reynisdrangar not the basalt on Reynisfjara. Also the road up to the base of Fjaðrárgljúfur is not an F road
So glad you went back for the drone! The glacier looks so cool from above!
I’m so glad too! Completely different perspective
Wow everything is beautiful.
The first glacier you saw looked so interesting there in the mountains.
Oh my gosh the sea is so sneaky! Stealing people. That’s pretty scary.
That horse is singing I’m the king of a castle! Haha
We loved this. Thank you for sharing xx
Thank you so much! There’s so many different things to see in Iceland!
Hey Ashley and Christian, what an amazing video :) Love it a lot.
@Autour du monde Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed :)
This was such a great video! I have just got back from recording my own Iceland trip and already miss it so I've been binging other people's videos... your trip looked like so much fun. I'm glad you mentioned the danger at Reynisfjara - the black sand beach is no joke! So many horror stories of tourists getting taken out to sea and losing their life on what should have been a trip of a lifetime... Iceland is beautiful and brutal in equal measure.
Thank you!! Iceland is so incredible it’s hard to not get good footage haha
The beach looks nice, Useful info about it👍
It was a very cool experience, but don’t get too close 😬
Damn.... Some people say is the Most beautiful country on earth, would you agree?
It definitely is a contender! They really have everything there - volcanoes, mountains, beaches, fields, etc!
when (what month) did you go? I can't believe you had so many sunny days in your Iceland postings.
This was all in July! We definitely got extremely lucky.
That glacier doesn’t even look real… That black sand beach is so beautiful. Y’all getting us closer and closer to just saying screw it and book a trip to Iceland. 😂 Also, you guys need to hurry up and come home! We miss you! Lol
Haha that’s our goal, to get people to see this stuff in person 😂 we’ll be coming home super soon!
