  • Explore Dyrholaey on the south coast of Iceland. It is formerly known by seamen as Cape Portland. Dyrhólaey is the southernmost point in mainland Iceland.
The hike to Dyrhólaey Lighthouse can take up to 45 minutes or so from the viewing platform on the other side. The hike is scenic. However, you can drive directly to Dyrhólaey Lighthouse. The viewing platform that sits on the other side offers a view of the black lava columns of the Reynisdrangar. This video will help you explore both locations.

Beautiful!! Can’t wait to enjoy your next video of the black sand beach. I saw a video recently that made my jaw drop. Beautiful but dangerous. Depending on the tide. You mentioned having the beautiful country of Israel in your bucket list. It was on mine as well, and was blessed with visiting in 2018. I truly hope you go and when you do that you enjoy it as I did. Walking,, driving around Israel the Bible came to life. It was an experience at a different level. Hoping things improve and that it will be safe for all who long to visit, can do it.

You're spot on about the importance of mentioning parking, restrooms, and food.

It is so beautiful and I felt that 3 weeks was not enough to explore the entire island. I am tempted it to visit it again.

That spot at the 20:00 mark IS the spot! It is sort of an underrated sight, since it appears a lot on IG, yet I feel Dyrhólaey is not as popular as many other spots in Iceland.

Glad to hear from you. You are right. This site is not as popular as the other sites. I spent a lot of time reading posts on the tripadvisor forum before my visit and a few travelers brought it up to my attention. Tripadvisor forum and reddit forum are sometimes great sources to find off-the-beaten-path places.

Hello, dear Wanderer Bell, discovered your videos about Iceland. Very well done for me, because I can exactly understand the routes and hikes and plan them for myself. Already scheduled your Thorsmork hike for our Iceland route in August. We also want to go to Dyrholaey from lookout point over there to lighthouse over there along the coastal path. You said about 45 minutes. Is this for one way or return? Thank you Rene

Thank you very much. I am glad you found my Iceland videos. The hike might take up to 45 minutes one way, but you do not have to hike if you don't have enough time. You can drive directly to the lighthouse to save time if the road is open. I hiked there because the road to the lighthouse was closed for construction at the time.

I am sorry to hear that. You need to take it easy. Take a day to rest and recover. Try hiking sticks to give you support and balance when hiking and walking.
