- Jonas Kahnwald’s journey through time in Dark Seasons 1 & 2. A linear timeline of Jonas’s path time travelling to becoming The Stranger & Adam. Please subscribe! - bit.ly/PetePeppers
Netflix’s Dark is a complicated tale that involves time travel and non-linear storytelling across multiple time periods. This video follows the main character Jonas Kahnwald breaking down how he moves through time. In season 1 of Dark we learned that the stranger was an older version of Jonas. In Dark season 2 we learned there was an older version named Adam. Each of these characters are 33 years apart in age, and have very different outlooks on the world.
At the end of Dark’s second season the younger Jonas watched his older self kill his love Martha. He then travelled with a mysterious new alt-Martha character who told Jonas she was from a different world. We expect that in season 3 he will visit her world, and we hope to learn when he becomes The Stranger.
Dark Season 2 saw the middled Jonas save Magnus, Bartosz, and Franziska from the apocalypse. We guess that The Stranger will end up in 1921 eventually to form Sic Mundus and become Adam.
In the second season Jonas travels from 2053 back to 1921 before returning to the present time. We see his older self “The Stranger”, and learn that Adam is an older version as well. Dark season 1 still has some questions to answer, and we can’t wait to see how the final season ties things together.
This Dark season 2 recap covers everything that happened that you’ll want to remember before watching the next season. It explains the season 2 ending, and what Martha from the other world might mean for Jonas’ future.
Dark season 3 will be the final season of the Netflix series. We expect the showrunners to explain the answers to questions that we have had after the first two seasons. Time travel, the founding of Sic Mundus Creatus Est, Adam’s plan to destroy time, Claudia’s plan, and what will happen to Winden after the apocalypse. Will Jonas be able to break the loop, or will everything always be just how it always was.
What Dark theories are you thinking about as we head into season 3? How would you like to see the series end? Are you excited about the new show Baran Bo Odar and Jantje Frese are making on Netflix after Dark is finished?
Let us know what you think about Dark season 2 and Jonas’s journey through time in the comments, and let us know what questions you have about this Netflix Original.

Looks like we're getting close to an announcement on Dark Season 3. Let me know what you are hoping to see happen for Jonas in the final season.
psss i say trailer drops on May 25... Because that the international "lost Children day" and 33 days before the Apocalypse. ;-)
@@000jimbojones000 I hope you're right, or it comes sooner.
Thanks Pete!
Dark is the best show on TV and I was so excited to see you doing more videos on it, and I will be watching all of them multiple times before S3.
It will be fun to see how Adam/older Jonas explains his motivations because now that everyone is time travelling, the world is full of people who should not exist. I love it!
Michael is Adam......scar in Adam is due to Michael suicide......and Michael is magician......so he faked his death..... that is the truth....... Michael is the reason for all things
Michael is Adam......scar in Adam is due to Michael suicide......and Michael is magician......so he faked his death..... that is the truth....... Michael is the reason for all things
Man, I have to do a rewatch. With a notepad this time.
There's a lot to keep track of
I think a big ass whiteboard should be better hehe
Im already doing it XD
I'd really like to see a "Claudia Tiedemann's Journey Through Time" video. Thanks for your work!
Also Noah and Helge. Apart from Jonas and Claudia these two are also traveling the most through time.
So hyped for s03 but also kinda sad that it'll be the end :(
It's going to be rough the last time they play "Goodbye".
@@PetePeppers1 Yes its a great series and it will be sad to see it go but I certeanly prefer a well rounded complete story over an ever streching forced one. As sad it is to be "done with it", one has to value their decision to make it a complete experience instead of streching to who ever knows what convoluted, and maybe even inconsistent domain, just to milk the cow and make a few more season. A well written complete well roudned story with a satisfying end and without fillers is so much better experience than an ever growing endless and diluted one which slowly lose it charms over many years. The creators seems to go for a compact, complete, deep one, and I couldn't respect their decision more.
Der anfang ist die ende und der ende ist der anfang. xD
But end is the beginning
@@ramrajendra3240 and beginning is the end
One thing which I personally noticed (and was the best thing for me in the entire series), but didn't saw elsewhere is that in the season 3 when Jonas is trying to kill himself, but saved by Noah. Noah tells him that it's impossible for Jonas to die now as eventually he'll turn into Adam.
He demonstrates it by handing Jonas the gun and when he tries to shoot himself, the bullet never comes out. But when Noah points it elsewhere and pulls the trigger, the bullet is shot.
At first, it felt like a supernatural activity, but it was a beautiful rationality. When Jonas shot the gun, he pulled the trigger exactly 5 times, which means that the gun had only one bullet which got shot by Noah🤯
The timeline couldn't change and they did that very logically 👏👏
Am I the only one who thinks Adam is Mikkel? Or more specifically, Michael. Hear me out; what if Mikkel figures out time travel so well that he leads people into place in order to get to his desired place of power in the future? What if during one of the timelines he sends someone to save himself as he’s attempting to hang himself by cutting the rope down just before it kills him, thus creating the same scar Jonas has in order to convince Jonas that he’s his older self. He could have done that so Jonas would do as his “older self” commands. As a way to ensure his obedience. Maybe that’s too outlandish, but hey, this whole show kinda is and that’s why I love it. The thoughts I’ve had provoked by this show have opened my mind in ways I never could have imagined.
Lolll 🤣🤣🤣 hope u now know who Adam is
Kudos to you! I was watching your s01 and 02 family tree recap earlier today. Keep on covering Dark and delivering quality content.
Jonas - named after the Greek god of space and time Janus.
Very clever
Looking forward to Season 3!
Yeah, this post on from the showrunner on his Instagram has me excited instagram.com/p/CALpqnFpt7w/
Can't wait for s3, I'm excited
You have the best dark content, great work keep it up! I wish dark had more recognition, it is the best series that netflix has ever produced...
Thanks. New theory video tomorrow.
I'm not surprised this excellent channel does Dark commentary. Quality!
can you pls do this for every major character?
That's a great video to recap before season 3 and it would be more helpful if there is a video on Claudia tiedemann's and Noha's timelines too
this is the only show where i think binge watching is required. otherwise you will have no idea what is happening.
Good job. I learned a couple things. This show is crazy complex.
This was much needed! Thank you
This is very cool. I expect more videos like this. It is very useful to follow chronologically the journey of characters like Jonas and Claudia, and even central objects such as the time machine, the notebook, the letter etc.
Terrific job as always!
Thank you for this video. I absolutely love this show.
You and Me are very Excited for this !
I never understood why young Jonas is blue eyed but the older Jonas and Adam have dark colored eyes 🤔
Jonas's journey Is definately wild, so I don't think he's not Adam considering how everyrhing leads to it not just for little clues or stuff, but for the actual arc he crosses throughout the series. Good video👏
Glad you liked it.
Love Dark! Can’t wait for season 3!!!
When Marta was killed I was sad
Pete this is your best video yet and trust me I love all your videos. I kept hoping someone could do the whole season 1 and 2 in chronological order. You did it only for Jonas which is still great.
Please please could you do this for the whole 2 seasons? 😊 I know you did one for the whole dark but it wasn't like this telling a story. It was just starting at 1921 with no story. Just this happened in 1921, then that happened. The way you did with Jonas time-line is brilliant. Not sure if I explained myself well. Let me know if it's not clear😊
Thank you MAN🙋♂️
I love you videos Pete! Keep up the good work!
Thanks.
Such a great series!!!😍Tnx for ur clips!!!
Thanks, glad you like them.
Michael is Adam......scar in Adam is due to Michael suicide......and Michael is magician......so he faked his death..... that is the truth....... Michael is the reason for all things
very well explained.
Thanks!
So furious wen they shot martha..ughh
Will you do further journal videos from other characters oder character groups? I think it would be great to be able to catch up on individual characters!!
🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 A video about DARK!!! that's a yay!!!!!
Love Jonas 💕
Your channel such great and helpful Dark content. I am on my third watch of Dark and still had some confusion around what Jonas was doing (in a linear time sense) and this video cleared that all up. Thankyou for making these! I am in the same camp as you, believing Adam really is Jonas, and believing the man young Noah kills is a younger Bartosz. I would love to see Noah/Bartosz video outlining their relationship. Also, do you think Bartosz could potentially be Tronte’s father as a man who “lost faith”, as Agnes said. 🤔🙂
Hey.. that's a good one with Bartoz could be Tronte's father. I should've thought about that earlier
Glad you like the videos. The Bartosz as Tronte's father theory is popular and definitely possible.
Bartoz being Tronte father is what the show wants to believe, in my opinion Jonas on his journey to become Adam lost his faith and had a relation with Agnes. Ulreich Is Jonas grandfather and Jonas is Urleich grandfather, a new loop similar to Elizabeth and charlotte one but in a larger scale.
Can't wait for season 3
I know what you're saying.
Such a good show.
Great video!
Please do one of Claudia and Noah as well 😊
Cronologically, as I understand, is in that year with Jonas spends with Claudia that he understood he needed to make Mikkel disappear. I wish they showed us more than that brief flashback, like how he felt doing that, getting his father lost in time.
this was great cann you add season 3 to this please. the complete time line video is hard to follow. maybe you can make one for marta also.
When it all begun is when Jonas' Father Mikkel killed himself, it created a rip in time, to set in motion the events that needed to happen. In order to repair time, the anomally which is Jonas has to be removed from existence. The end is the beginning and the beginning is the end. Meaning there is not beginning nor end. So you have to begin, begin and end, end. When older Mikkel Commits suicide. It ends and when young Mikkel never goes into the cave it begins. Jonas is driving time mad, and in order Adam to exist without repeating, you must become time itself. The only way Jonas wins this battle is if he is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice by becoming the end and the begin which in the middle nothing exists.
wait, whutttt, i thought the same haha this could be epic
Jonas an angel from Dark 😍😍😍😍
Could you make a new video of Jonas's journey including the 3rd season? Also another similar video for Claudia?
I didn’t like the ending of season 2 with the multi-universe existence, the beauty of this show is that they kept us waiting to know how the endless loop will be broken or is it possible to brake it. 18 well crafted episodes to explain how everything is connected and how the time is an illusion then the last moment a totally new factor entered the game to change all the concept and leave for the writers endless logical possibilities to break the loop. I will really be so disappointed if a character from a parallel world interfered to break the repetitive sequence of events however i believe we are heading to much bigger loop of time/multi-universe where also everything is connected. I hope season 3 will be as good as the first 2 seasons.
German isn't my 1st language and I confess, I am rusty but I watched s1 & 2 in German, then with sub titles. Very complicated show. You do such an amazing job putting it all together. Have you done any vids on The Last Kingdom?
I haven't watched Last Kingdom yet. Glad you enjoy the Dark videos though.
Please create a video on the timeline of Claudia Tiedemann's characters as she seems to be the protagonist of the entire series ✌️
And Thank you for all the videos!!!
Noah said " Jonas tries to destroy the black hole but ends up creating it in the first place"
But I thought Nuclear explosion in the summer created it.
If Jonas Created the Black now but how was Younger Jonas travelled from 1986 during his first Time Travel, because these events are going to happen later in 1986.
Jonas better fix that shit!! Lol
This was the video I wanted to watch to connect the dots, I had to watch this video twice and my head hurts now. I'm curious to find out which year stranger returned from and missing years between young Jonas to Strange and Stranger to Adam. Also what happened to the alt Martha? why Stranger is the only one that returns? does that mean alt Marta broke the timeloop with help of stranger and stranger is only trying to retrace his steps just to break the loop too?
Kind of need the same thing for Claudia, Noah, and Helge given they travel so often.
Originally I was going to do one for Claudia, but it didn't turn out to be a popular video.
Hey, great video, do you have the thumbnail without the text?
It's from Baran Bo Odar's Instagram. instagram.com/p/B3Y5SHcIceq/?igshid=5rwyeewp3jhl
why did he traveled to 1921 instead of 2020 .... the point is that the travel machine or the time hole to back 33 Years back or forward
Never forget the throwaway line from Season One, Episode One, where Martha sarcastically questions whether her brother Mikkel (like Houdini) is adopted.... If true, she can end up "legitimately" in love and living with Jonas, her nephew, according to Western family values👍
It's foreshadowing of Mikkel being adopted by Ines. There is a number of mentions of adoption in early season 1 to foreshadow the adoption of Mikkel and put the idea in viewers head subconsciously.
Pete, can you recommend another series that is even close to as good as Dark? Great channel by the way!
Dark is good on a lot of levels so it depends on why you like it. I think Devs on Hulu was an underrated show that came out this year. That deals with the idea of determinism, and has really nice style to it.
Personally I've been really into The Expanse lately. Its definitely the best sci fi series of our time. It excels in many ways.
@@pseudonymousbeing987 I am a fan of the Expanse books and show too. I did one season 4 video and will probably do a couple more before season 5 comes out. Hope the final book will drop soon.
Not a sci fi series but watch The Handmaids Tale it is amazing
I finished season 2 today wow
Can't wait for season 3.
Michael is Adam......scar in Adam is due to Michael suicide......and Michael is magician......so he faked his death..... that is the truth....... Michael is the reason for all things
Adam doesn't lie to Jonas!
He tells Jonas that if he is able to prevent his father's suicide, then Jonas and all his other versions will be erased from existence, but Jonas doesn't prevent the suicide, so Adam is not essentially lying.
It is true that Adam knew Jonas was going to be persuaded by Claudia to let his father die and did hide this part from Jonas, but essentially he Adam was not lying at all.
Yes he told Jonas he could prevent it, but didn’t tell him how. His dad wasn’t actually considering suicide, he only thought about it because Jonas came and explained to him everything and told him not to do it, essentially giving him the idea of committing suicide, and then Claudia showing up to explain a bit more. But if he hadn’t gone to talk to him, the suicide wouldn’t have happened, because he wasn’t really considering it in the first place, and Adam knew that but didn’t tell him. More than lying to him I guess he tricked him into making the suicide happen by not telling him the full story.
I never really understood how Michael not killing himself would lead to Jonas being erased out of existence. Jonas already existed! How could he be erased out all of a sudden? That part never gets clear to me.
So.. who else thinks that Cilia might be Jonas and Martha's daughter??
I think that's a popular guess. It's Winden so she has to be related to somebody.
@@PetePeppers1 I get the feeling this whole town is one giant family
oh nice. I went with Noah and Agnes as Jonas and Marta's children
@@petergriffin818 I never thought of that... That is a really good guess, I have been wondering where Noah and Agnes come from
Great Video. Would be nice if you can do the same for Helge.
I was thinking about doing a few of these with Claudia next. This one hasn't gotten much interest though, so not sure if I will continue with them.. Not ruling it out yet.
More than 'Adam' & 'Eve' - I think it's about Light vs Dark or Good vs Bad.
Adam represents the 'Evil' side of Jonas.
The other side will be the 'Good' side which will try to lure Jonas.
Just speculations.
what if claudia is eve in the sense that SHE starts the cycles in motion??
Do you get copyright claim or strike for the video clips you use? Hoping this video is monetized.
You can use short clips under fair use if it's a part of original content. Fan videos are useful to create hype for the series.
Am I wrong or this video is kinda missing a moment when exactly Jonas takes Mikkel to the caves? It’s mentioned just not put to the chronology which made me confused for a moment :) According to the timeline it should be after the conversation with his father and Claudia, when he walks away with her? Like after a few months he has to return to 2020 for this quick quest - and only then, after some more time, go to Regina without a proper haircut and a yellow coat!
It happens in the year he spends with Claudia off screen. We only see it in a flashback.
How many version of Jonas were there through out? I think 11. Jonas, The Stranger & Adam exist in 3 realities. The Origin reality and the 2 Alternative realities. So thats 9. I believe teen Jonas was the only Jonas version to enter the split origin reality. So thats 10. And then there was the child Jonas who saw Jonas and Martha when they were on their way to stop the car accident. 11. How far off am I?
The future influences the past lmao
Man pulled eren yeager sh*t or what lmao
I have a strong feeling Adam is not really Jonas, but Bartosh instead... that's why he lies to jonas, that's why he kills martha ....as he says "some loves can't be forgotten", he does all this out of jealousy. maybe I'm wrong, but it all fits
Bartosz killed by young Noah, and Bartosz can't be Adam, just see the way how Adam/Stranger/Jonas talk, they look very calm while talking. Bartosz's way of talking is very different. Only characters who are similar in way of talking with calm are Jonas, Stranger, Adam, Noah, Charlotte and Egon (Egon is idiot).
When does Jonas lead Mikkel to the cave ? And why ? Answers anybody ?
This is the only thing I really have a problem with! Because Michael tells Jonas about this but then it's never spoken about again.
Is peter Adam?
Who was born first Charlotte or Elisabeth
Quick doubt: In season 1 did stranger Jonas kidnap Yusuf on behalf of Noah?
The Stranger doesn't work with Noah. Helge kidnaps Yasin.
We do find out that the time spent aging Jonas and his friends are in the 1800s.
Has anyone ever noticed, that when someone travels in time for the first time, the first person they come in contact with or see is either a younger or older version of their parents or their child. Go back and re-watch every time someone travels in time and see for yourself. I'm pretty sure that's how it is. I haven't heard anyone mention this
Ulrich met Helge first! so no!
@@HashimAli-lc7ty you are right i went back to check, after Helge he then meets his father tronte as a boy and his grandfather Agnes on the road
great video! I think Adam actually died in the apocalipse. He traveled to the future with the god particle, so I assume he does not have a machine to go back.
Mikkel is pronounced “meek-el”.. do you watch in English or German?
Watching it in English makes no sense at all
I can't remember from the show but did Adam know that Martha was pregnant with Jonas's child? If so why didn't Adam question this, considering Adam himself never went to Martha's world and couldn't have gotten her pregnant. Minor plot hole?
But as I understood, the Jonas having that day before his dad died, is not the same Jonas waking up after that. I thought that why he had that lame excuse. He came back to that day... No?
What's under the eyepatch?! Heterochromia??
Whose eye patch?
@@pseudonymousbeing987 woller
Did you actually play this back and listen to the insanity? How could ANYone make sense of these characters or the timelines? What are these writers thinking... although it DOES make continuity kind of a non-issue.
Are Stranger Jonas and young Bartosz, Magnus and Franziska going in 1888?
1921-33 = 1888
That's the popular idea.
get rid of all the other recap videos you made so far, they're just more confusing than the actual show, and make a video like this but for every major character.
Am I The Only Who Thinks Jonas Kahnwald Looks Kinda Like PewDiePie
