- Dark Season 2 explained! Finally took me a little while to watch Dark season 2 so I could grasp the concept of the show. Let me know if I missed anything. Dark is the most complex netflix show on Netflix.
could tell within two minutes that this is the only dark recap worth a damn. at least for me. all these videos just trying to state each event that's happened don't actually help anything more than a surface level viewing.

I think Adam is an ALTERNATE version of future Jonas. He needs to destroy OUR dimension to save/right his own.

Agreed. Would make sense of Claudia saying she'd seen the future without Jonas and it isn't what he thinks i.e. it's her own dimension where Adam has travelled away to our dimension, and she has followed him...

I was thinking something similar with a little difference. I think it is the same Jonas but he wants to destroy world 1 to save the alternate world 2. Maybe bc of Martha 2, maybe because Claudia 1 hurt him or sometime or something in world 2. Adam says she took something from him, of I remember correctly

Yes, I didn't understand it myself on the other side of this conversation. But in time you will. Everything must happen the way it always has.
I really liked season 1, which is the main reason why I was kinda afraid to watch season 2, since it's super easy to fuck this whole thing up, since it's quite the complex concept. But they actually didn't, and season 2 was even better than season 1 imo. Can't wait for season 3.

They just didnt dare to publish it because they thoght its too complicated for mainstream media. It was Netflix who literally said to them: "Give us your most crazy ideas you hide in your drawer."

I kinda feel like Adam isn't actually future Jonas, not quite sure who he would be though. Maybe Hannah has another kid in 1953 since she said she's looking to for a fresh start last we saw her.
Also didn't buy he is future Jonas. I think Adam is Bartosz. :) Thats why he kills Martha. And even disfigured, shape of his face is more similar to Bartosz.

Have you considered that Adam's face being messed up, and the killing of Martha, may be indications that Adam is in fact NOT Jonas, or perhaps an other-dimension Jonas like Martha 2.0 that sprang forth from wherever/whenever/whatever?
I need season 3 to get here quick, season 2 has my mind racing. I imagine I'll be binging seasons 1+2 again a week before the release of season 3.

Anyone else think that the guy that young Noah killed in the first episode of this season was actually an older version of bartosz? He really looked like what I imagine an older bartosz to look like.

I think that Adam/Jonas is the ancester of the 4 families, thats why he calls himself Adam "The first" . So maybe he is the father of Noah and Agnes the "Nielsens" so does the whole family come from them Mikkel-Martha-Charlotte-Elisabeth-Magnus-Franziska-Regina-Bartosz.... except for Claudia thats why Claudia is the white devil. Martha 2.0 is the first or second try where they changed something. He starts everything with martha 2.0 (eve) Adam says in the last scene of episode 3 that all familes are connected with a red bond. In the scene you see claudia looking at regina. He also says that you would protect your family no matter what. Sic mundus knows that! If jonas dies, everyone dies. Thats why sic mundus needs to stick together.

Noah cant kill adam because of the grandfather Paradoxon that means adam hasnt born Noah right now wich means that an Adam of the future brings Noah and Agnes as baby to a past Adam. That fits with the dialog between noah and bartosz in S2 E1 where bartosz says "ask him why he picked you up an why he did named you noah" Adam brings every piece in position so our jonas can break the cycle. our Jonas and Martha2.0 getting Noah and Agnes and our Adam takes the children from them of the multiverse(double loop) and brings them in Position for our Jonas. He finaly breaks the cycle because our Jonas is the final work off all infinite Jonas's/Adams where the wheel comes before the car. Every invention loses his origin after a loop! our jonas is the last invention of that. Adam engineers jonas to finaly end everything and fullfill his only wish. That finally everything stops.
Thats why Magnus maybe said "You could have told him what his purpose is" Adam also says it took him 66years to figure it out.

Wow, amazing explanation video!!! I’d like to add my two cents, and also ask you guys for opinions/theories on some points:
At 7:29 - I don’t think Noah was trying to create a time machine to stop Adam at all. He was attempting to create this machine at the orders of Adam. First, because he was very devoted to Adam’s vision right up to the Apocalypse days / killing Claudia, when he realized that Adam had been hiding his daughter’s identity the whole time and decides to kill him. And second, because Adam himself mentions the bunker when he’s talking about technological developments to young Jonas. He basically says that without the bunker and the other intermediate time-machines, the more advanced ones couldn’t have been created. Thus part of Noah’s tasks for Adam would’ve been to make sure that he creates the first-ever time machine (mentioned to be so in the first season, when young Jonas has the conversation with older Jonas while locked up inside it), thus making sure that the more advanced ones can be developed - so, again, the bunker is part of Adam’s plan. This means that Claudia and her development of the God Particle are also essential steps for the more advanced time-machines Adam is creating. Meaning, to what extent is Claudia a pawn and to what extent a big-player?
At 4:33 you say older Jonas wants to stop time altogether, and stop the apocalypse, but does he? I feel like I didn't quite get what older Jonas was trying to do this season except try to save Martha from the apocalypse... I didn’t see him trying to stop anyone else from dying or taking them to the bunker, or trying to stop the events in the power plant… And at some point he said he can't stop himself from becoming Adam, but he can stop the older Adam, this means his plan was to kill older Adam... until young Noah shows up at the end and shows him the letter written by Martha, which shocks him and he says it’s not possible… So I feel whatever is in that letter changes his mind about killing Adam because he realizes he needs to save his friends plus Agnes and Noah in the future, meaning the founders of Sic Mundus… So a big question for season 3: what was in that letter?
Something that has me a bit puzzled is, how come young Jonas says to young Claudia that he’s already been mentored by old Claudia for months? Aren’t they in the time-travel-cycles, meaning they can only travel to the same day 33 years to the past or future? Or does this mean that old Claudia and young Jonas are at this point regularly using a time-machine like the one in Adam’s church - that allows you to go to any time and day? Because obviously the briefcase time-machines that older Jonas and Bartosz have, are still part of the 33-year cycle…
Another point about Jonas/Adam and Claudia - The “mentored” young Jonas that talks with young Claudia, tells her that it took him a while to start taking part in the making of the very things he wanted to stop, so at this point young Jonas is already trying to make things happen as they were always supposed to happen, hence he goes and opens the portal in the caves. But is this the same “mentored-young-Jonas” that goes back to his house at the end and kisses Martha? If so, Claudia obviously hid from him that Martha would die, killed by Adam, so that it would happen the same way as before and he wouldn’t try to stop it… But what we also know is that older Jonas regrets ever having trusted Claudia, saying she became what she was trying to fight in the first place. This older Jonas is not following Claudia anymore, and it’s again trying to stop things from happening the way they happened before (obviously unsuccessfully). The relationship between Adam and older Claudia however, is still unclear in my opinion.
And Adam’s motivations and end-goal are obviously a big part of it all - what is this world he wants to create? This world without time? Is he an even bigger player in a “multiverse” battle? Another question for him would be, what is this last cycle? Another 33-year repetition? And if so, why? Obviously Adam has been creating “something” with every new “cycle”, and according to him, the next would be the last, the “end of the chain”. Is the machine that Martha2 has at the “end of the chain” in time-travel technological development that Adam mentions to young Jonas? But of course, how can it be the “last” if everything keeps repeating itself? (if this Adam already got told the exact same thing by the Adam of this youth when he was still young Jonas?) There MUST be a way to break out of the repetition, and there MUST be something that IS changing from cycle to cycle, otherwise Adam is just stupid :D
The big question is (and I feel like this will play a big role in the direction season 3 will take) Is Martha2’s appearance at the end part of the time loop? Or is that a new development that has only happened in this cycle? Because if it is part of the time loop (meaning both Adam and older Jonas have already met that Martha, gone to the other world, seen whatever she wants to show young Jonas, etc.) then nothing will have changed by her appearance, and by extension nothing is changed by the existence of the multiverse, because everything is simply leading Jonas further into becoming Adam in the time loop.
Then there’s the fact that Martha2 says “I’m not who you think I am” - does this mean, she has not had the experiences with young Jonas that Martha1 had? Is there a Jonas in her world at all? Or is this the no-Jonas world old Claudia mentioned? But if so - why would she care about Jonas at all? Is Martha2 from a world without a loop, where everything from the past CAN be changed by traveling back in time and thus creating new alternate universes which branch out into different futures, every time a change is made in the past?
Martha 2 could be a distant descendant of Martha.

How it should have ended:
Jonas is so sad after Marthas death that he kills himself (uncreating future Adam, if Adam really is future Jonas, that is) The end
Yo , i think martha 2 will have his own fucked up world with same fucked up family tree in her world and jonas will be just there for another lie outcome and will eventually break out and become adam after he stops believing in martha

Ulrich isn't nothing but a loving Father. He has his flaws and issues as well but that's what makes him so interesting. There are no good guys or bad guys in this show.

So I’m confused as to Claudia’s and Adam’s goals. What I took away from the season was Adam wants the apocalypse to happen so the world can be restarted fresh, and Claudia wants to control time herself by harnessing the God particle, saving Regina and Egon, and being some kind of time goddess. So I guess both of them are technically villains in their own right

Nafisa Newaz No, nurse Ines Kahnwald is inspector Kahnwald’s daughter, he is the 1953 collegue of young Egon Tiedemann, so she couldn’t be the daughter of Hannah starting a new life. We see young Ines entering the shop of young Tannhaus together with young Jana, Ulrich’s mother, just after Ulrich travelled to 1953 in season 1, and he recognizes his own mother. Ines tells Tannhaus about the two children found dead on the new-to-build power plant. Nurse Ines is sweet but also kind of strange, and let’s say Ines was born in the early 40s, then she looks very young in 1986 for a 40+ year old, although it’s not impossible.

And we also know that Hannah traveled to 1954 to start a new life and maybe she will meet young Ines and who knows what will happen.. : )

Guys, I might have a theory. Remember the scene where Hannah traveled back to 1953 to visit Ulrich. There is an after scene where Egon (of 1953) and Hannah are in their office and Hannah might be showing love/sexual interest to Egon of 1953 (as evidenced by him voluntarily lightning Hannah's cigarette) and they might have a relationship afterwards, which is the very reason why Claudia has become aloof or emotionally distant to his father, aside from the fact that Egon prioritizes his work, losing time for family and knowing that his father might be performing adultery although it was never shown in the series. I just think Claudia would have known it eventually since she's a time traveller.

Everyone else is talking about Adam, Martha 2 and the multiverse but i’m trying to understand why Noah killed the missing children Mads, Yasin and Erik. Were they just pawns to be used so that certain things can happen. I ONLY HAVE THREE brain cells left, help me.

I don't know exactly either. The only thing I know is that Noah especially picked Yassin as victim so he can't make out with is future wife anymore xDDDD
This is the third breakdown video I’ve watched for this show and I still don’t know what’s going on.
Everybody realised that the sic mundus notebook was giving to Noah, by Peter!. Think about it. In the first season, Noah gave the book to Bartozs. So bartozs had it when he, Magnus, Franziska and adult Jonas travel. Before, young noah travel to 2020, and Noah told him some stuff, but it did not reveal his mission, or the mother of his future wife. This means Noah now about his wife and who will be. Going back to the book. In the first scenes of the first episode of S2, Noah was remembering the time he killed Bartozs, Noah still has the book. When Adam asked Noah about the lost pages from the book, Noah still had it. This might means that these scenes happened before the last scene from the last episode of S1. So the book is another paradoxe. Cause Jonas knows about the book cause Bartozs gave it to him, and not even Adam Knows about the lost pages. So maybe Claudia wrote it as she as Jonas have the only ones who have travelled in time and space. So, I believe Claudiae was the one behind everything. She took Noah's baby and gave it to tanhaus, that's why Noah hate her so much. Claudia knows about Noah and his sister Agnes and told Adult Jonas about it. In one scene Young Noah asked Adult Noah why Adam (Jonas) welcomed Agnes and him, this make me think that they were rise by Adult Jonas who eventually became Adam. I think what makes Jonas Adam was his experience in the other world. Although, some inside me told me that maybe, theres a remote chance (1-5%) that Adam and the stranger as the series is always name it in the credits (weird that they never have revealed the real name of the character in the credits as in other cases), is not Jonas. If that happend we will be shock as fuck in the last season...Definitely, in my opinion, the best original series from Netflix
Also another thing that makes me think the stranger isn't Jonas is the fact that both he and Adam has brown eyes whereas Jonas has blur eyes. All older version or younger versions in the show had to wear contacts to match the eye color. Why not older Jonas and adam. Unless it's Jonas from another universe.

What was weird to me was that charlottes mother aka Elisabeth looks different than the post apocalypse Elisabeth so maybe Noah met the Elisabeth from another universe ? The ending indicates multiverses anyways

One mind blowing twist after another! Love that they're exploring alternate universes now! My theory alternate Martha has been going through a journey similar to Jonas but that device she has can travel through space. Sad next season is the last but a story has a beginning and an end.
I enjoy the fact that the show has an end. Because they will give a great story and a more precise one.

I think what adam meant by "you can save her or you can stop me" I dont think he meant in that moment. I think it's when older jonas forces her to the bunker to save her yet she leaves anyway(later to die).. so young jonas still has the opportunity to change that in the future

The twists in this show are amazing. I liked the Tiederman arc a lot this season, with Egon and Claudia getting fleshed out and closure in some cases. There's also Ulrich Nielsen. I was surprised they showed a 1987 version of himself and I really hope he plays a major role in season 3 somehow.

Really great review of S2. I think the series is a bit of a sleeper as I have no friends who have mentioned it. I am now super pumped for S3. I have yet to formulate any real theory on motive for any character. Hats off to the actors and the creators for developing a complex mind-bending story that gets more involved with each step. I really like your camera presence. And I am glad to see this video has picked up traction for you. Thanks for providing an in depth well thought out explanation. It's a head scratcher and am glad to see others are interested in this show too.
A cycle is the 33 years so now young Jonas will take on the role of older Jonas for this cycles Jonas, and older Jonas becomes adam in these 33 years. Also I think Aleksanders story will have more to it than him just being a criminal who stole an identity. Somehow he is linked in this thing and considering every character we follow is from Winden except for him, I think it may have to do with future Martha

Ulrich goes to 1953, Mikkel goes to 1986. After 6 months of these events happening an old Ulrich meets mikkel.Mikkel did not age but Ulrich is probably in his 70s? Do you see an explanation to this?

The city of Wenden is the closed loop. Anything happening in Wenden is not making any effect on the other parts of the world, and Wenden is not being effected by other parts of the world. To make everything "OK", Wenden must stop existing. That's why the there will be a world without Wenden in the end (like Ulrich ard Hannah said). And there were talks in the series where someone was wondering why nobody leaves Wenden - which is very unusual for such a large city. Adam is "Adam" because he is the founder of the city and somehow the granddad of everyone in Wenden.
Hannah killed herself in the original timeline. Middle aged Jonas showing up just as she put the gun to her head was no coincidence. So her traveling back to the 1920’s is a new occurrence which resulted into the formation of a new world....the world that Martha travelled from when she saved Jonas.
You mean 1950`s. And no it's not a new occurrence due to the causal determinism. Just like the missing of mikkel isnt a new occurrence because Jonas was created this way, Hannah traveling to 1950's isn't changing something in 2020 or creating a parallel universe.

Adam needs the apocalypse to happen so the God Particle is created and he has what he needs to create the God particle he uses in 1921 to go to any time point. I’m really curious to see when Adam and His Secmundus group actually formed and aged. Did they form post apocalypse and just went back to 1921 once they were older or much farther back and lived until 1921? When did older Jonas get older?
That’s what I want to know. When they age. And I want to know exactly what is Adams plan.
We will have to wait and see what happens in 1887 and 2085.

Since jonas formed sic mundus with the guys he traveld with (Franziska, Magnus, Bartosz) I think they travelled to 1888 founded sic mundus and aged to 1921. That would also explain why Adam is older than Franziska, Magnus and Bartosz. Because he was already grown up when they travelled at the apocalypse while the others were still teenagers.

i am not sure of anyone answered this question. i just finished watching this couple a hours ago (6/26/2019 1:56 PM EST) and the thing that is racking my brain. i noticed that middle adam new that younger adam was coming back, but to me it seemed that middle adam is not aware of his version 2 of his girlfriend. because if he did. why try to save version 1 by forcing her into the bunker. that got me thinking, is middle adam not the 3rd adam, meaning his memories are not the same yet, so the 3rd adam, had to create an event that would make use young and middle adam, to create the 3rd adam. if thats also true, is the 3rd adam the end of the loop but to be a loop in the 1st place, 3rd adam has to use people and his 2 versions of him self to create to loop in the 1st place. (you guys get what i am saying) I Think this whole event, is about actually the 3rd adam and what he had to do to break the loop, by making changes withing the creating of the loop, and thats the story we are being told in Season 2. i came to this conclusion because of the 2 different calendars, middle adam did not know about girlfriend verison 2, the old (3rd) adam is the only one that knows it all. (i came to this conclusion after dreaming about this dam movie, by taking a nap 4 hr nap after watching this movie on Netflix)
I think that Hannah is the one who gave the detective the info about Regina's husband. And that she rode out this whole apocalypse thing in the 50's. Im curious to see tho what becomes of Claudia's Father and Regina.
As the season 2 unwrapped, we saw “Novikov Self-Consistency Principle” rising out in the show logic slowly. The only problem is this principle doesn’t allow coexistence of different worlds.

You lot are not realising that the end is the beginning. This all has happened already just we have not seen it. Martha from another world meeting Jonas has happened already. The show is showing us how the cycle started and ends. Jonas meeting Martha from another world is how “Adam” is created and survived. Season 3 is how Adams journey is going to be about and nothing with how the cycle is going to end.
Nope. Because older Jonas still doesn't identify as Adam as we see in season 2. And the older Jonas already went through the parallel universe or whatever with Martha. I think what causes the transformation from Jonas to Adam is the content of the letter from Martha to the older Jonas which he got handed out by the young Noah.

In S2E1 at the 46.46 of the show we can see the list of the people that went missing, but if you look closely of the date 5/11/19 you can see that someone by the name of Tote Vogel went missing also. I do not remember that anyone mention that person. Can someone tell me who is that person?

I had to get the premise by watching your Season 1 explanation and watch Season 2 first to understand Season 1.
Two persons being the mother and the daughter of each other is not a paradox, is a nonsense and an impossibility even within time traveling and multiverse sci-fi stories, because even these type of fictions have rules. If you don't think a little bit, this show will fool you and led you to believe anything is possible but it's not.

Adam is an all-knowing-dick. Always one step ahead. Young Jonas is very vulnerable and easy to manipulate. Now, middle age Jonas is just clueless, he took the others to start sic mundus because of a letter from Martha delivered by Noah, a character middle age Jonas has no reason to trust. I think Claudia is so over her fucking head, she has to know that nothing she does with young Jonas would ever be a secret from Adam, in a way she's making him even more powerful. She did say she saw a future without Jonas and that wasn't right either. It makes me wonder if only her has traveled through space, cause Adam never mentions other worlds, only time. With every action they take I feel they're only furthering Adam's game, unless the loop is broken, and young Jonas is now in a different timeline or world from which Adam cannot learn. This show gives anxiety. Trust no one but baby Jonas.
If the past is unchangeable, doesn’t this also mean the future is also unchangeable, because the future is simply the past relative to it’s future, doesn’t this create an endless loop which there is no point in trying to disrupt? And how did Claudia end up being such a strong force to resist or fight against the travelers? And didn’t Jonas technically change the past when he ended up getting Martha dead? When in the last cycle she ended up getting with Bartosz???????????
Baby Charlotte was adopted bij Noah and future Elizabeth. Future Elizabeth didn’t give birth to Charlotte. Elizabeth is the real birth daughter of Charlotte though. They presumably adopted Charlotte to ensure she will grow up to be woman she is ment to be and be with Peter Doppler. Otherwise Elizabeth will never be born.
Nope. The series hints that Elizabeth gives birth to Charlotte. They travel back in time to give young Charlotte to Tannhaus. Later she gives birth to Elizabeth. And this is possible due to the bootstrap paradox.

Hard to swallow some things in this series: take the case of Elizabeth being daughter and mother of Charlotte . There is difficulty to accept this as fact with cientific possibility since we would obtain two different genetic charges for Chalotte!!

You see, the slight almost dificult way of evaluating a science fiction plot is to check the "science" part, ti be believable and the fiction part almost posible within the future, otherwise you would have fantasy instead. Its like the attitude of watching 2001 a Space Odyssey vs Star Wars. So it seems I will change my initial attitude in the case. I have also my doubts in the case of Mikkel, its a case of mixing the B-theory of time with the common one of time flux.

I know people use lightly words like perfect, flawless, masterpiece..ect. When in fact they are comparing it to their version of the words. This show is those and I honestly don't think nothing in my lifetime will even come close.
This show is gonna ruin TV, series, binge watching for me. This sets the bar so high. There are so many tiny, little details, probably in the thousands I'm sure. Like anyone who thinks they know everything like don't. For example I may find a few details most won't. I mean every single line has meaning. I'll just name two right now I bet most didn't catch. I said "most". When Jonas went back to 1921, when the German folks seen him, they said he was limping from the war, and asked him how he got injured. He said Eastern front. German history in the tiny details as he was referring to Germany's front in the east with Russia in World War 2. They were referring to of course, since they were in 1921, to World War 1. They of course lost that war and most Germans believe they got bamboozled into losing.
Another one I found interesting was the rich 80's details. I was a heavy metal thrash dude in that day and lived thru the 80's, one of my bands that got heavy cassette play was Kreator. It was played and I immediately recognized it in season one and two when Ulrich listened and ugh ...just mind blowing.
Only fear i have is if they show ending scenes of S3 same as beginning scenes of S1. Then i will have to watch this over and over again.

You got some stuff wrong about the book and the prophesy. We dont know who wrote the book, but old claudia has it and gives it to peter and tronte in s1 but removes the last pages. the rest of the book somehow ends up with sic mundus and noah specifically who follows its instructions when building the time chair which is necessary in the "evolution" of the time machine. The tunnel comes first, after that the chair, then the tannhaus device, then adams god particle. Each builds on the previous one and the more advanced time machines cant exist if noah doesnt construct the chair first.
The "prophesy" states that the passage will reopen in the postapocalyptic future and bring the believers of sic mundus, led by elisabeth, into the paradise. This is why noah supports adam at all. He kills the kids because its needed to eventually create a machine that can save his wife (he probably thought it would save his daughter as well). When he finds the last pages, he sees that the people in the duture wont be saved and that adam lied to him, using what he loved most to get him to do what he wants. This is why noah in the end tries to kill adam.
