I had a Yamaha 5.1 receiver with uninterrupted service from 1998 to 2020. It stopped working and it would probably take more $ to fix than what its worth. 21 1/2 years of service, great sounding, no complaints.

I got a used RX-A3080 for $950. Worth every penny! And Andrew is right, I've had it almost a year and I'm still learning new things about it 😂. I feel like this receiver will set me up for the next decade

I've owned this receiver for 2 years and it is just phenomenal. Even after 2 years, Its the thing I couldn't stop talking about when an old friend visited me to see my new home last week! Every. Single. Time. I turn on the TV or listen to music I smile. I asked my wife for a 1080 (and said if you wanna break the bank, maybe a 2080) for my bday in 2019 and she got me this! Thing is amazing.

The Yamaha RXA-3080 paired with Klipsch RF7 III fronts, RC64 III center, RP 502 S surrounds, RF3 rear surrounds, 4 Atmos in ceilings and 2 R-115 SW,s with the 2 fronts powered by the vintage Yamaha MX-1000 power amp is simply a slice of heaven. Both music and movie performance is simply astounding!
Would love to see this setup.....This sounds wonderfully simplistic although I'm sure it sounds heavenly 💥🏁👑
I'm a separates guy. Even all the receivers I've owned over the years I used the pre outs to connect an outboard amp. Finally, Yamaha came out with their own separates which I had to have. It's my current setup: the Aventage CX-A5000 pre/pro and matching outboard MX-A5000 amp. Just spectacular audio quality.

My family had a Yamaha reciever when I was in high school in the 90s and I remember being sooo impressed with all of its DSP modes. I was just getting into jazz and found quite a few recordings were not stereo, and so the jazz club or Rock concert modes did a great job at de-mono-izing the music for my modern ears. After a while though I started using straight Pro-Logic and stereo, because the "Reverb layered upon Reverb" began to sound unnatural to me. My first receiver, the first that was mine-all-mine, was a Sony with similar modes that were even more adjustable, but I rarely used them other than for a laugh, like "Hey, sounds like the weatherman is in a cathedral!"
I don't fault anyone for using those modes if they like them. I remember browsing in a Circuit City, and a salesperson was demoing some equipment for a customer, using Star Trek: First Contact which had just come out on DVD. The customer kept wanting him to switch back to the Jazz Club mode, "That's the shit!" he would say. I wonder if to this day that gentleman is sitting in his home theater system enjoying movies sounding as if they're playing in a jazz club.
This guy is audiophile extraordinaire. He speaks of sound systems and features with exquisite deliciousness that's makes me wanna be an audiophile. But we all know that ain't gonna happen 😂.

I have very much enjoyed my RX-A3080, and have appreciated the fact that it was able to grow as I expanded my surround sound setup
I have been rocking the receiver now for almost a year now and love it now as much as the day that I bought it.
I got a Yamaha AVR about seven years ago and I found it extremely easy to use. The menus and options are laid out very logically and while I did read the manual to make sure I wasn't missing any hidden functionality, I really didn't need to. I now work at a place that sells them (we can also get Marantz and Denon, but we don't hold them in stock) and while there are more options to tweak, they're still laid out in a similarly logical fashion.
I've setup Sony, Marantz and NAD systems of various ages and I personally found Yamaha by far the most intuitive to use. Admittedly the examples I'm speaking about aren't current (and in some cases, not even recent), so things may have improved in the last five or so years (guessing at the age of the most recent example), but I'm convinced that with some of them, there's no way the average consumer would be able to set them up. Many people can't even figure out how to enable a sound bar in their TV's options, so their chances of operating some of the AVRs I've encountered are pretty slim.
Glad to see Yamaha brought the analog connections back.
I bought an RX-A2070 last year and it was the best entertainment investment I have ever made. You cannot beat Yamaha on sound/control for the price. I happened to catch Amazon at just the right moment and got mine BRAND NEW for over $500 off the original price. It was a GREAT day!

I've always been a fan of Yamaha for AV since my second receiver I purchased.
I was a broke high school student at the time and upgraded to the (then) highest end 7 channel that was out. Didn't change anything else in the system and it was night and day for what came out of the speakers. Of course this was 20 years ago so todays stuff is much better but I'm still using that receiver in the house for a couple different zones while I upgraded to a newer model Yamaha for the surround system a couple years ago.
I look for three things in an A?V receiver:
1. Aesthetics - it needs to look good since it will be front and center in stand.
2. Ease of use - needs to be easy to setup.
3. Bluetooth Transceiver - I need to be able to connect BT headphones for late night listening. I'm a Metalhead but not an
inconsiderate savage. Bluetooth 5.1 for HD or Hi-Res audio is preferable.
@Sly foxxx That's a given therefore I didn't feel a need to include that. I mean you can get a sense that sound quality is important to me if you read about having Bluetooth 5.1 for Hi-Res sound.
I have the Yamaha Z11. Bought it in 2008 and still works beautifully . It’s 35kg!!
Very good review! For those interested in this receiver I recommend also looking at the A2080, which I own. It's almost identical to the A3080 and lighter on the pockets.
Just bought a Yamaha 3080, to replace my Marantz 7013. And such a great difference: much improved dialogue and seems more powerful. And yes it's a monster

I've had it for almost 2 yrs now. It's amazing.
Have a 3080 with Klipsch Forte series 4, Klipsch RC 64 center and Klipsch 502s II surrounds. All speakers timbre match well. Excellent for home theater. I use the 2 channel "pure direct" for LP's and CD's with XLR output and it makes an incredible full range 2 channel audiophile system. The Fortes go very well as a 2 channel system with this amp.
I love mine and use it with external amps across the front soundstage. I liked the DACs and XLR hookups. The enhancer feature and AI modes work great:) I use it in a 7.2.4 setup.

I have a RX-V683BL that absolutely rocks my Klipsch reference setup. I manually setup the distance and leveling and left the eq on the "through" setting. Sounds amazing, and I'm a huge YAMAHA fan now.
Own the the RX A1080. Love it. Had an NAD t748 and upgrade to the Yamaha.
Yamaha always, always, always and another always has been the best receivers for the money. I've been with Yamaha since the early 90's and they're just rock solid all the way around. No, I didn't say they're the absolute best money can buy nor did I say they're the worst. But if you're just a beginner, just getting your feet wet and/or just want to plop down a couple grand for a top of the line stereo receiver you absolutely won't go wrong with a Yamaha . . .
Pioneer #1 then Yamaha although lately pioneer has been lacking interest in their top of the line receivers....
@@Tonyplat98 Pioneer home stereo was NEVER first above Yamaha. When I lived in Japan, you know that's where you get bleeding edge electronics, it was always and is still where Yamaha was rated #1 by everyday users/consumers. And that remains the same here in August , 2021...
Excellent review! Have lived with my rx-a2080 for a year now and have had the same experience. Absolutely love it.
I’ve had the 3080 for about half a year and love it. I had the earlier 3040 flagship iteration and became a dedicated customer so the 3080 was enough of a technological upgrade to justify it. The 3080 has a huge amount of power to drive my large Klipsch Front and Back, the B&W Center and the Martin Logan sides along with my Klipsch subs. You can’t characterize or generalize the sound because you can tailor every aspect of it from the equalization, to decoding to the speaker size to the type of venue you want to simulate. You don’t need a dedicated streamer or phono amp or of course power amps though I did have a Cambridge streamer with my 3040 and a BluSound music server which I used to rip my collection of about 600 CDs. I then backed up those files onto a thumb drive and inserted that into the unit’s USB port. I’ve had the 3040 for 6 years and it still works flawlessly while the newer 3080 is a great compromise between value for the money and current state of the art audiophile features.
I read your reply, I am sorry to say my Denon has held up a number of years. Some of my friends the same. I've had several Yamaha amp over the years, both keep shutting off, then come back on. I've talk to the Yamaha tech, they didn't know what the problem. But finally it stop. The Denon amp sound separations is whole lot better. My question to you have ever you own a Denon amp? Let me also say this, the reason why I bought a Denon amp was because my Yamaha amp was broke. I went and bought another Yamaha amp. I set it up, the amp wouldn't turn on. I took the amp back to Best Buy. I ask the sale clerk what they recommended to buy, they said since you are having so many problems with the Yamaha amp, buy the Denon amp and they also said you will not be disappointed. Well up until now I've had my Denon going on for three years. I will not go back to Yamaha.
You've had bad luck. In general Yamaha's are very reliable.
I've owned the yamaha 3080 for about 1 year after upgrading from an old Denon 710w. I wanted to have a new receiver I could add on an external amplifier or two in the future. I wanted room for growth as I knew over time I would possibly add more speakers. What sold me was even without an amplifer (running a 5.1 setup) how much more alive the amplifier was than the previous one. This was due to the SS SABRE PRO ES9026PRO Ultra DAC and SABRE ES9007S DAC's. 384 kHz/32 Bit (Denon was up to 192 kHz). I had some "handshaking/blinking" issues with certain 4k video sources (mainly a 4k player). Realizing I was only using 18gb/s HDMI cables I upgraded to 48/gb/s cables which solved this issue with the Sony 950G. I imagine this was because of the E-ARC update for the yamaha. After I was running a 7.1.2 setup I realized I had to turn up the reciever more and more to get clear sound dispersion. I eventually added two amplifiers at 125w and 200w RMS per channel to solve this issue (it is actually bad to underpower speakers). This completly changed the way everything sounded in a simply awesome way. With the external amplifiers (Monolith 7x for the main stage and an older JBL ava-7 for the surrounds little sounds came alive and surround sound actually sounded like it went around the seating area at the right times during the movie. Looking back as a consumer and depending on your needs I would invest in this as only a building block to a great movie home theater (even at that you will want to invest in an external amplifier depending on your speakers (yes its make that big of a difference). For normal use (wanting some surround) and some movies here and there I would go towards a more budget friendly receiver. But if you want a great home theater you can build on this is a great start! If you get it do not use YPAO. Measure the distances for yourself (its easy) it made a huge difference for me. You will play with the settings alot to find your sweet spot if you want to dive into it. Keep in mind this receiver is from 2018 and new stuff is already on its way in for the same or slightly higher price. However this thing can handle quite a bit. If you setup atmos its a great every once and a while engulfing sound (depends on the movie) as DTS-X and Master Audio are just fantastic. No issues with it however have good ventilation for it. Hope this helps rant over. :)
Never in my wildest audiophile dreams did I think I'd be using a HT receiver for 2 channel audio but here I am. I thoroughly enjoy my Pioneer receiver with ICE amp modules.

Good review! The Yamaha control app is the best in the industry, bar none. It was a major advantage in my mind and helped me choose the 3080 over Marantz AVRs, one of which I owned before the Yamaha.
Recently purchased , way down the product line, RX-v685 and love it. It meets my needs and then some. As far as Yamaha menus, they are not ideal but certainly not off putting. Once configured, I rely primarily on the app anyhow.
Yamaha RXV685 is a very solid receiver. I am a Yamaha man. Wish there were more reviews on them. I like their neutrality over the other popular brands.
@@andrewforsythe7240 how reliable is RX V685?. Bcos I'm not fortunate to have one, from Wi fi and bluetooth malfunction to protection mode. Its a nightmare.

I did happen to notice as you were showing the on-screen menus that Yamaha still offers their DSP modes of different venues. This started around the yesr 1990 with the introduction of the HIGHLY acclaimed DSP-1 stand alone unit, and continues as an imbedded technology in Yamaha receivers to this day.
Experiment with it if you get the opportunity, as you will be pleasantly surprised at how convincing some of it's modes are.
I've experienced it playing the movie "Closer" on my "legendary" 1998 Yamaha DSP-A1. INCREDIBLE!!!!

Always owned Yamaha receivers and mine was over 12 years old and outdated. I also have the Fluance RT-85 turntable and use Klipsch surrounds, center ch., subs, and recently added klipsh atmos speakers on top of my old (1993) Polk LS90 floorstanding speakers. Would you have any suggestions on moderately priced main speakers to replace the Polks? My price range is probably up to 4K/pr. Thanks Andrew. Love your videos.
I used to sell these a few years ago, the amp section is still the heart of the sound. If you look at these companies separates (Amps), their power disciplines are reflected somewhat in their receivers. A lot of companies add more buttons and let the amp suffer. Yamaha and Marantz have deepest bass, then NAD and Harman Kardon, Onkyo and Dennon are perceived to be clearer, but it's just a bass roll off. Sony, Technics, Kenwood, Pioneer and JVC are bass weak and should be avoided. I had an older Yamaha RX series, upgraded to Yamaha separates (w/ a DSP-1!) and then finally took the plunge to McIntosh separates (MX-130 & MC-7300N), can't afford newer. It's nice to be able to buy from a company that's in your backyard...

Yamaha is not known for this at all, and virtually no reviews find this either.
Denon almost always has deeper bass, I’ve found this in careful comparison listening for over 15 years.
But many love Yamaha’s sound
and their build quality and reliability is quite good.
@@dr.anthonyforgione4253 My tests with these brands goes back a few years. I saw the birth of linear trackTT, p-mounts,CDs & CD Players, the rise of VHS, the death of Beta, going from two piece VHS Camcorders to one unit, VHS-C, and Hi band 8mm.We also got the FIRST HT receivers, and DSP separates. All the brands I mentioned went through a double-blind A,B comparison. We used Polk RTA1 as our speaker. TCs were flat, and playback was set with a db meter to keep things even. 4 of us did the listening, 2 at a time and rotated out with different pairings.
We kept written scores and tallied them in the end. Companies may have changed, but I doubt Yamaha would slack off on their amp sections. Their rep IS music after all.

Had one for a month and sold it. Lip sync issues, HDMI pass though issue not working and sound was a tad thin with ‘my’ set up. Have the Denon AVR-X7200WA prior (and kept it) and hooked it back up again - runs rings around the Yamaha even though it’s older technology. Bought the Yammie because of the XLR inputs and outputs (I love that about that AVR) but just didn’t cut it for me. Anyway it’s horses for courses and I truly wanted to make it work, it just didn’t for me.
I couldn't agree more with your review, Andrew. I have this exact unit. I found it to be nearly "over-built" -- immensely heavy at 35 lbs, high-quality discreet dual codecs with A/B grade heavy wiring. Everything feels extremely solid. I agree the overall sound feels very neutral (compared to my previous Maratntz, which was distinctly "warm"). The Yamaha RX-A3080 channel separation is excellent -- very pronounced. The EQ customizability is over the top. Not sure if anyone needs all those presets and EQ control, but nice to have. I agree that the menus are difficult to navigate. Overall, it feels like this one was built to last. I couldn't be happier. Let us know if they send you one for your great feedback!
Not sure what you mean by channel separation and it being excellent but the last thing you want is pronounced channel separation I'd say ? You want a 3d stereo Image if playing in 2 channel and a 360 degrees sound bubble if playing in surround. the last thing you want is to be able to pinpoint where your channels truly separate, but probably I am missing your point :)
immensely heavy? dont think I'd call a 35lb reciever that although at that weight its certainly well build and heavy... ive got a denon and an onkyp that are between 50-60lbs... now Thats some serious weight!

I had finally bought this receiver last year 2020 been looking to upgrade from my old Yamaha Receiver can't even remember the model but it doesn't have many hdmi or none at all. I'm finally getting it out of the box to setup can't wait to test it out it is a beast.
I thought it was a lot fun learning how to set up the home theatre. Not only that but learning how get the best sound out of it. However, I've got to reconfigure the system when you want watch a movie and then do it again when you want to listen to music.
Great Review. I bought the a2080 and was amazed by the clean sound vs my old Onkyo boombastic THX Certified device with Max Power. The a2080 had everything I wanted (Multiple Powered Zones), decent Power & Good UI as well as we know the DSP's are the best. Yes, you do have to spend time to get the sound the way you want but that's what techy type people do (Dig in). As an FYI, it sounded good enough out of the box with a YPAO setup too... I don't have the room for the a3080 or bigger but I can tell you that it has enough power unless your extravagant. My 2 External AW6500's have enough power that I've seen some neighbors dancing several houses away (That tells you something Right?)... I think that AI is an incredible feature that is probably going to be followed by others as it makes movies more enjoyable period. If you were to ask a sond expert they would say the weight of the Receiver is important and at 37.5 lbs for the 2080 & 43.2 lbs there is allot of hardware and a good sign of a good AMP (Thats what you Pay for in my Opinion). It's Yamaha and they know sound. I did consider Dennon vs the Yamaha for weeks before my buy. Yes, you do get some features that are nice like Auro3D but who's going to use that. Go listen to a Yamaha, try the AI and take a look at the MusicCast Gui. The Advanced Features of Yamaha make Streaming Sound better too and I'm sure you can do that with anything but again it's Yamaha...
Hi I want to buy klipsch rp8000f and other klipsch speakers for dolby atmos.Thinking about 5.1.4 system right now.What do you think some sellers recomend Marantz over yamaha.
I have 2 choices Marantz 8012 or Yamaha 3080 ?
I know it is good to have 11 channels like Maratnz have so you can expand your system up to 7.2.4 but I have an inner feeling that Yamaha will be a better choice. . .What is your opinion If I can ask?

@@patrykgorecki581 I think Marantz is a great system as it was the other device I was considering as a matter of fact. I just think that the Yamaha is put together like a tank & I would say for 5.1.4 or 7.2 you can't go wrong either way. I did notice that the yamaha is 150W & the Marantz is 140W (sr8012). You can do 11 with the Yamaha you just have to use an external AMP but I don't know what kind of affect 11 Channels on 140W would be like nor 150W (Dependent on Speakers) but I have heard that you can do some amazing things with an external AMP's Segregating Channels and of course you can crank up everything with an external AMP (Personally I think the AMP is what your paying for). If your considering multi-room, zones or AI in the future it's hard to go wrong with Yamaha (The AI is actually Pretty Amazing). Also, I do know that using the DSP's and Enhancer on the Yamaha it gave my Deezer & Amazon prime music a massive pump in Quality of Playback but again were talking 2 additional features I currently use and I'm not sure if they are a consideration for you. It's worth your time to take a listen at a place where they have a proper setup as they won't sound the same even if the hardware was identical. I think Yamaha is a very clean type of sound as opposed to my older Onkyo that was a bit bassy. Maybe see who has the best external amp options for the future 11.2? I do know you can do some crazzy things like external wireless amps for the Yamaha as well so maybe a second zone might be an option for the future if you don't fall in love with 11.2 as DTS can overcome some hardware requirements requiring more speakers (I've Preferred DTS for Years when Watching Movies).
I also have the a2080. Got it March 2019. Still very happy with it. Getting ready to add an external amp for my main 5 channels for some extra power.

I think it's time to replace my old tried and true Denon AVR-4310CI with something new. I don't have a 4k TV yet (can't give up my 60" plasma until I can swing a 77" OLED) but my old Denon's network card is shot and it doesn't have any streaming capability. I think the Yamaha Aventage RX-A2080 would suit me nicely.
Finally someone reviewed this AVR and identified how good the Yamaha mobile app is! Thank you. It was a contributing factor in me picking this receiver over buying another Marantz.
I’ll stick to anthem, but Yamaha for sure is the best main brand out there. I would choose it over denon , pioneer and for sure marantz

I love it, but I would try to find a 3060 or 3070 for cheaper!! Not really any difference between them!!! I have a 3060 and love it!!! The only difference really is the surround AI, to me is no big deal !!!
I would like a receiver that does two channel music very good and allows me to use wireless speakers for the rears and height channels in a 5.1.2 system.
Hi Andrew I have a 5.1 set up not going bigger. I have an open floor plan, running Mythos 7 up front as the mains, I think Mythos 6 is center and my rears are Mythos brand in ceiling facing down. Sub is a kilpsch. Vurrrntly running a Yamaha rx v 567....looking to upgrade as I need more power I feel. What receiver you recommend to go with my set up?? What I like about Yamaha is that all my hdmis go in and one out and don’t need my receiver on to watch tv due to the bypass. Now I have been out of the game for years so not sure if anyone else does that. Thanks

I have a Yamaha RXA-1000 and can attest to the smooth sound and setup complexity you speak of. From the video, it looks like they have moved the setup game on considerably!

On the ropes as well between Anthem and Yamaha. Had 3 Yamaha receivers in the last 16 years, without a hiccup from any of them. The two subwoofer indenpendent feature is killer, which is not offered on Anthem in this price range.

I have this Reciever. I drive 9 Cerwin Vegas with a Cerwin Vega sub using both outputs. Its unbelievablely amazing.

I have that receiver , awesome I bought a 2000.00 marantz before that one , it only lasted four months ! Not you but alot of the reviews I watched said marantz was the best, that's BS I will only buy yamaha . My last yamaha receiver lasted 19 years !
Yep! My older bro has my ancient Yammy stereo receiver. Working fine. One for our media rig and another in the man cave. Very impressed with their gear.

I have a Yamaha RX AV681 and I love it. With my PSB speakers it’s amazing
I have used Sony,Denon, and some Marantz and still come back to Yamaha. You hit the nail on the head, yes it's that good. So easy to set up(just do t be overwhelmed by all the buttons/icons it is very user friendly and can do a lot. And with the EQ it does make any room sound good, the room now doesn't have to be a square room. The Yamaha has it handled.

Hmmm... so this isn’t a HDMI 2.1 receiver? Then it’s sort of dead in the water for a lot of people. 8K isn’t important but having all the other 2.1-spec features I’d imagine be standard now. Poor effort Yamaha.
Not sure you’ve tested. If you have a tv which does not have a 2.1 hdmi connection and you pass thru audio and video via the amp, will it give you 120hz for gaming and will it give you enough bandwidth for Dolby atmos ?
You don’t need 2.1 because the 2.1 is crash. The consoles haven’t that features today, they lies, I tested games in PS5 and Series X, and both haven’t 4K real and 60 FPS, or 1080p with 60 Fps or 1440p (2,5K) to 30 Fps, the consoles with 2.1 are fake, wake up
Yamaha makes great amps, my first was an integrated amp at about 30 watts per channel in college around 1978.My next was a Yamaha rx-v1070, I was a fairly early adopter, probably only a year after it cam out and I could read all the reviews. I originally used it to power two Bose Accutimass setups for surround. Three years ago I retired to Florida in a condo and concrete and steel construction was not making wall mounting my Bose very convenient, so I purchased Klipsch. I now have a 5.0 system with Klipsch RF 82 II front speakers a Klipsch center and wireless Klipsch rears. I don't need a subwoofer as the Klipsch speakers have such outstanding bass. I don't think I will ever retire this receiver, its perfect.

I have the 3070 and it can't hold up to my Denon AVR-3808Ci that is over 12 years old. Granted I don't have atmos or 4K on it but there are ways around that.
How would you compare the overall sound performance of this avr to the rx-a8a or the a6a?

I agree with his "negative" points. Yamaha has always skimped on the UI/on screen menus. They leave much to be desired in that dept. Having said that, I've been enjoying my Yamaha receivers for the past 13 years. Just last week I decided to finally sit down and spend hours researching how to fully understand and use the dang thing. Getting it to recognize an Atmos signal wasn't that easy.

My cousin has a Yamaha 2070 with some Goldenear Triton 5's up front, some Klipsch rp series surrounds, and a Klipsch sub... that system sounds absolutely amazing. Listening to surround mixes of music from SA CD was a life changing event for me. The Downward Spiral has never been so engaging, and Dark Side of the Moon is even more mesmerizing. That's not to even mention how it sounds with movies. I would love to hear a 3080, but even the 2070 was more than impressive. Yamaha continues to be extremely impressive, and for the price and feature sets, I am not sure who else really compares.

Just got a tsr 7850 and I really like that version. The Yamaha in pure direct Mode takes it up a notch imo.

Most support all the latest formats so I tend to look at hdmi connections being future proof and then make sure I have preouts for at least my left, right and center channels.
So one thing I have noticed from watching so many videos on surround sound systems is knowing which receiver to use with specific speakers. for example using the correct receiver with the ohms your speakers have. I just purchased some SP-FS52 Pioneer Stand up speakers that are at 6 ohms. Someone told me I could use any receiver and it will work, however, then I watched some videos and it was recommend not to use an 8 ohm receiver with 6 ohms speakers. This gets more confusing. I am a newbie at all of this. Does this mean that since I have these 6 ohms speakers the rest of the speakers I purchase to complete my 5.1 surround sound should also be 6 ohms speakers? Please educate me. Thanks.
Fernando S. ohms really are not an issue. Most receivers can handle down to 4 ohms without issue. The only time it may be an issue is with speakers that dip down to 2 ohm, or if you have it cranked the receiver may go into protect mode, which just means you turn it back on again.
Actually ohms DO matter! Budget receivers with less power are more problematic with this issue. If all your speakers in a five channel system are four ohm, you would be asking a small amp for huge current and you quickly overheat the amp. Heat is the enemy when long term durability is desired. If you are running four ohm speakers in two channel mode you may get away with it, especially if you purchased a mid/high quality AVR ($800+) The ohm load of a speaker changes with frequency, and the base region is where you will find the speaker dips to its lowest ohm load which is harder on the amp. If your speakers are truly six ohm, their DC resistance is going to be approximately 4.5 ohms.
In two channel, you will be fine. If you set your five channel speakers on small in the set-up menu and use a powered sub for the low end, you should be O.K. as long as you are not trying to play back at reference levels. Cheers!
You can use an 8 ohm receiver with 6 ohm speakers but when you go down to four ohm speakers that's when you might have a problem!

Last week I went with the RX-A2080. Didn't hear much difference in 10 watts per channel and pay another $400. While I want a good performing receiver for movies and TV, I am still primarily a music listener. This receiver has excellent music modes.
I know this isn't a recently released receiver, but the new lineup to marantz and Denon is quite far ahead in terms of features and specs.
8k is but a marking term atm. I have my 82" 4k Q80R setup 8-10 feet away. It's the in the sweet spot for that size and resolution.
You would have to sitting 4 feet away from an 8k tv of the same size to notice a difference.
Not worried about the 8k ,I want the 4k 120/hz. Don't really see the need to go up to anything else as it will cost double and only be a minor improvement
@@iamworthy1302 The 120hz would be nice, that is actually future proofing somewhat. Myself I'm interested in the Denon 6700 or 4700. I need 11.2 channel processing, want DTS-X Pro, Enhanced Imax, extra power. But even atm there is no 4k 120hz source available unless PS5 or new xbox provides it.
My TV only supports 60 hz thou, and I'm not about to drop another $4400 on a tv anytime soon, so it's a mute point other than future proofing my reciever purchase a bit.
@@Nirotix the ps5 and Xbox series x will support 4k 120hz at launch. A 4k 120hz tv is about $1000 so not bad actually. I have a 7.2 I can't imagine making space for 4 more speakers lol and also doing 11.2 pretty much forces you to commit to a crazy receiver. 7.2 is the sweet spot for me
@@iamworthy1302 I did 4 in wall (rear & side), 4 in ceiling (front & back), just have 2 polk audio towers and a S35 wall mounted under my tv with a sub. It's actually a 7.1.4 Atmos system I've put together, room almost complete, just mudding, painting and flooring left.
I spent some coin on the TV, was either that or a projector. It's a Samsung 82" Q80R. Probably the best picture tv next to going with the Q90R, but I didn't see much of a difference between 16 dimable zones vs the 8. My bars top/bottom are pitch black. Can't be seen at all even thou the TV puts out some of the highests nit levels for any tv on the market atm. Colors are saturated and incredible. Some like OLED better citing deeper blacks, but found the overall brightness of the display to be dim, simply doesn't "pop". Also many have reported banner/HUD burnin, so at the $6000 mark, wasn't about to risk that one.
Next display will be a 120hz 8k display once prices come down 5-6 years from now I think.
2:50 What does it actually mean when this Yamaha (and all other receivers for that matter) specifies support for HDR, Dolby Vision, etc. What is the receiver doing beyond acting like a simple switch ?
Does it mean that it has sufficient bandwidth, HDCP, EDID relay, etc to pass those video formats onto a display unaltered ?
If not unaltered does it mean that it can add a graphics overlay such as information , volume setting, etc ?
If not unaltered does it mean that it can also manipulate the video. For example, converting HD to UHD (or vice versa) ? Or converting Dolby Vision to HDR10 ?
Please feel free to educate me as I dip my toes into this brave new world of UHD (HDR).
It just means it can pass those formats through. Everything in your video chain needs to support Dolby vision or HDR. If your source supports it but your receiver doesn’t you would not get HDR or Dolby Vision on your TV.

Great review Andrew. I have been using the Yamaha RX-V1083 for about 3 years now and you hit every point exactly right on the Yamaha AV receiver experience. Steep learning curve with a brilliant control App that makes up for that crazy menu and setup experience. I had it for a year before I think I felt I knew all the customization options. Only thing I would add is the Zone 2 function which I love and has enabled me (paired with an external Mcintosh Amp) to run an upstairs stereo listening system. My audio store person keeps telling me to split the system and add a Mac preamp but it is hard to give up the awesome Yamaha app. Love the Zone 2 function!
