@science is dope: Well, if you are asking where Schrodinger's quote came from, it took less than 5 mins to find out it came from his semi-autobiographical work "what is life?". He has a chapter in it where he says the single most challenging part of his research was to develop a continuous function (solution of schrodinger's equation) for the spatial probability of discrete electrons and how to connect continuous functions with discrete results using ingenious functions like kronecker delta function. He did explicitly mention that the inspiration came from pedantic concept of all pervading (continuous) consciousness manifesting in discrete individual beings. That is a profound thought. Every same individual knows that vedanta was not talking of science but metaphysics . If anybody made a claim that vedanta is a precursor to science, you are using idiotic arguments by rank morons to discredit the profundity of thought in vedanta. Vedanta is a deeply well thought metaphysics. Metaphysics is not science and not based on evidence. It is the depth and profundity of thought within vedanta that is indeed beautiful and inspirational to great minds like Scheodinger, Oppenheimer and Schopenhauer. Why are you dismissing it? That is ludicrous.

@Science is Dope: Also, the comment on authority is misleading. What is your achievement in science? What is the number of highly cited and peer reviewed journal publications you have produced in high impact factor journals? This matters a lot in terms of whether your assertions carry weight as such achievements are a minor guarantee of your capabilities in science. So, what Scheodinger or Oppenheimer say does matter simply on the basis of their scientific achievements. This is the worst video I have found on internet in terms of exploring relationship between science and religion. I hope you dont take it down since as a professor of physics, when I teach pupils regarding this topic, i know to show this video as the worst possible example that is there so far.

@anantverma3428 Stop reading comments half way and reacting. I already answered your question. Any Tom Dick and Harry can make any nonsense claim they want. It has zero impact unless it goes through a peer review process in a decently reputed journal. That is the authority and that is how science works. Incapable people who have zero contributions in the field of science making illogical arguments like the speaker in the video here (read the comment I made on the logical fallacy pranav made by connecting metaphysics and science in the wrong way) have zero impact on the actual progress of science. If Pranav has some meaningful contributions to science (decently cited papers in high impact factor journals), let him come out with it. I will write to those journals regarding this video.

Gita, Vedas and Upanishads are philisophical texts, meaning they delve into fields like existentialism, mind, reasoning, etc.
The scientists mentioned in above video come from the era when Germany and Austria were known for advancing the field of quantum mechanics. This field of physics at that time required thought experiments and thinking deeply into tiny world of matter.
Also during that time, Sanskrit and Hindu texts were being researched by the German philosophical society, so it is evident that the scientists got hold of these texts.
I am not saying that ancient Hindu texts had any quantum field theory or physics mentioned, just that by reading the philosophy behind those texts, the scientists were capable to bring more clarity on their thought experiments and bring about their discoveries.
On the other hand, you won't hear the British and American scientists of that time mentioning much about Hinduism because research into Hindu philosophy was not the topic of discussion in their circles.

Hey, Pranav I was waiting for you to say this. These scientists did read Hindu scriptures especially the Upanishads from the Vedas and the Bhagavad Gita to know about Indian philosophy, but not for Scientific discoveries or Science. I wanted you to tell the audience that there's a huge difference between these two things - Philosophy and Science. Many discoveries in Quantum Physics like the dual nature of the particle or the presence of an electron at two points at the same time were difficult to digest for many at a time when anything that defied Classical Physics was considered incorrect. So these scientists found solace in the Upanishads, a philosophical part of the Vedas devoid of any religious practices. In Upanishads, they found echoes of their theories and a philosophical foundation to ensure they would no longer be cast adrift by the implications of Quantum Physics. No one actually tells you that these scientists were also critical of other parts of the Vedas which are full of outdated, unscientific or superstitious practices of deity appeasement. These scientists were interested in just philosophy and not religion. Basically, they were hardcore scientists at heart and believed in the scientific method of evidence-based understanding of things. But as every man needs a philosophical foundation to his life, they too wanted the best of every philosophy out there whether from East or West. So they looked at these things out of interest and curiosity for their philosophical pursuits. This has nothing to do with science or their scientific discoveries. An outstanding article on this topic of Upanishads and Scientists is on Science The Wire. Go check out that for more information on this topic.

it is quite possible that they could have given them a good description on consciousness
Schopenhauer especially was suprised to find numerous similarities between the Upanishads and his own The world as will and representation. He was also interested in Buddhism.
It think pranav included such quotes which entails idealism and consciousness centred solution and interpretation of wave function collapse in quantum mechanics

      @mithunbalaji8199 11 місяців тому

There are many interpretations of wave function collapse. People without any conclusive evidence favour some interpretations like the one centred around consciousness and affiliatied with Vedanta over others
They claim the interests of scientists into such philosophies and their beliefs
As some sort of evidence/support. Apart from it,when it comes to philosophy in west there are plato, Kant, Berkeley we have philosophers like adi Shankaracharya, Nagarjuna etc... Philosophers like Schopenhauer even tried to interpret the Upanishads on the light of his own philosophy (which he came to conclusion seperately)

This is the problem with extremists. The Hindu extreme think Oppenheimer was actually uppala Narasimha coz he read and liked Gita. Atheists think religion is useless and played no role in their lives coz they didn’t make thesis and research papers on it. It’s spirituality and science. Ramanujan said the Devi leaves the equations on his tongue. Is that rational? Is there any evidence of a goddess coming and somehow putting ideas into Ramanujan brain like in inception…or if going by your logic, since he said tongue, LITERALLY on his tongue? No. We all know it was ramanujan’s genius.
Muhammed Ali says all his strength has come from allah….do we have evidence that allah was connected to Ali through a artery and sending him his powerful blood? No. He was doing it all by his hardwork and talent all the years. But these ppl mentally derive their strength from being spiritual.
The thing is, spirituality makes humans do extraordinary things. Thats why great minds use religion for self introspection and mental health, whereas lesser men take every word literally and debate around if the words meant one thing or another.

Physicist Meghanad Saha studied and researched Vedas for 20 years, along with his physics researches, he didn't find anything similar too.
A few western scientists said those, but they never researched on Veda, Heisenberg for example, travelled in India, met Rabindranath Tagore, and Tagore told him about Veda philosophy. Heisenberg himself said this in the whole quote. So he didn't read Vedas either, he just heard a few stories from Tagore when he was in tour.

@@traderdox Meghnad Saha is a ‘he’, btw,
      1. Where does it mention? Which Veda, which shloka?
      2. Where?
      3. Navagraha (9 planets) in hinduism includes Sun and Moon and it doesn't include Earth. According to hinduism, Sun and Moon are planets, and Earth isn't a planet. Rahu and Ketu are in those 9 planet list too, which causes solar and lunar eclipses according to hinduism. But in reality, other planets can't cause lunar eclipses on Earth. Btw, there are 8 planets, if you include Pluto, you have to include other dwarf planets too, which will cause the number go up. So even the number 9 isn't correct according to modern science. So it's scientifically inaccurate.
      4. Where?
      5. In my Gita, it is mentioned that Krishna comes to this Earth every 8.6 billion years, but Earth's age is between 4 to 5 billion years, so it's again another scientific inaccuracy in Veda.
I read Vedas, Mahabharata, and Ramayana, starting my research in astrophysics in 2024, I've never found anything scientific in those books. Instead I've found many many scientific inaccuracies and wrong information about the universe in those books. This doesn't only apply to hinduism either, Bible starts with wrong information about the universe from the very first page, Quran has tons of wrong information. The scientists that were mentioned in the video actually took inspiration from Vedanta, i.e., Bhagwad Gita, Upanishads and Brahmasutras, by grasping its philosophical aspects and stay motivated into their pursuit. But the problem is when people especially hindus start saying things like "See that XYZ Nobel Prize Winner scientist quoted our religious texts, so he/she discovered their findings from our scriptures. Hence, our ancients were great scientists and we were the first ones to teach the World." So this kind of argument shows how naive and stupid you are.
In fact most hindus, themselves have not read Vedanta (as mentioned above) so they don't understand the fact that the scriptures are more of philosophical in nature than that of outer physical science.

Antoher amazing video @ScienceIsDope. As someone pursuing PhD in physics who also has a keen interest in literature, philosophy & psychology; I'd like to share my two cents on this:
    1. Our goal is to understand the nature, the universe, through scientific means & hence, all the ancient texts don't stand a chance in this endeavour.
    2. Having said that, these texts have their own place in the society. I completely agree with what Pranav said that they surely are piece of art worth cherishing, and at times give very profound insights.
    3. These texts are surely marvelous and worth exploring, simply because of the ideas and topics they discuss. As Socrates said, it's a mark of an educated mind to entertain an idea without accepting it.
    4. The problem arises when one starts reading way too much between the lines or begins mis-representing/mis-associating them in sciences.

    Video Summary
    Introduction:
In this video, the creator discusses the claims made by some individuals that Hinduism is greatly compatible with science. They specifically focus on the statements made by four scientists: Julius Robert Oppenheimer, Carl Sagan, Erwin Schrödinger, and Werner Heisenberg. The video aims to debunk these claims and highlight the misinterpretations and exaggerations made by those who associate Hinduism with science.
    Retelling of the Video:
    1. Julius Robert Oppenheimer:
Oppenheimer, known as the father of the atomic bomb, famously quoted a line from the Bhagavad Gita when witnessing the testing of the first atomic bomb. Some people interpret this quote as evidence of Hinduism's compatibility with science. However, the creator argues that Oppenheimer was simply using a religious metaphor to describe the awe he felt during the explosion. The claim that ancient Hindu texts mention nuclear weapons is baseless, as there is no scientific evidence to support it.
    2. Carl Sagan:
Carl Sagan, a renowned science communicator, is often quoted by those claiming that he regarded Hinduism as the greatest among religions. However, this claim is taken out of context. In a video discussing how ancient civilizations viewed the universe, Sagan mentions that Hindu myths have time scales comparable to modern scientific cosmology. He states that this correspondence is likely a coincidence, and there is no scientific evidence to confirm the claims made in Hindu mythology.
    3. Erwin Schrödinger:
Schrödinger, a Nobel Prize-winning physicist, is also cited by Hindu nationalist blogs to support their claims. However, the creator couldn't find any scientific significance in the quote attributed to Schrödinger. It appears that these blogs are more interested in finding famous scientists who mention Hinduism rather than seeking genuine scientific evidence.
    4. Werner Heisenberg:
The creator mentions a quote by Werner Heisenberg, but no elaboration or context could be found. It seems that this quote is also being used to associate Hinduism with science without any scientific basis.
    Conclusion:
The video concludes that these claims of Hinduism's compatibility with science are often exaggerated and misinterpreted. Quoting individual scientists or cherry-picking quotes does not provide scientific evidence or consensus. It is important to critically examine the context and consensus within the scientific community before making any claims about the compatibility of religion and science.

Appreciate your work brother, i personally am a hindu and got nothing against religious people but its very important to think rational so we do not get fooled by these people like sadguru, i think hinduism is beautiful as it is and does not need any validation from any scientist, its very unlikely that our mythological stories like mahabharat and ramayan are real, but they teach us alot of moral values about how we should live our lives which makes it lovely as it is.

When it comes to Upanishads its interpretation of the nature of consciousness was a great achievement in philosophy.
When it comes to its implications on science, by the very nature of their studies are limited to the domain of neurophilosophy and possible little neuroscience.
I think we have to see such texts more as a philosophical one than as a religious thing, just like how we see the works of Kant, Schopenhauer, Spinoza etc..
It is also possible that they could influence various positions within the philosophy of science especially the philosophical interpretation of fundamental laws in quantum mechanics.

My objection to the dialogue on here is not to claim that religion validates science ( thats not a sustainable argument in the main ) but rather that you cant be a scientist and hold private religious views . We can quote various religious people ( like Lemaitre - BBT , or sir Bernard Lovell ) who had an impact on science but people like Dawkins wouldnt be totally mocking if their religious views . That is wrong in my opinion .
I also agree that it is wrong to conflate Hindu nationalism and science .
The bit about Oppenheimer lacks any rigour . Most people in the west would know about the Bhagavad Gita through George Harrison's relationship with ISKCON ( watch Henri Jolicoeur's videos about ISKCON before joining guys ) .. What the heck was a physicist - Oppenheimer - doing studying Sanskrit in the 1930's ??? We know Vivekananda' made an impact in the USA a hundred years ago , but doesn't it invoke some curiosity that Oppenheimer could quote from the Gita ??? Not only does he quote that verse but before that he gives a broad synopsis of the purport of the Gita .
Now for myself as someone who has had a great interest in advaita vedanta ( despite being Christian born ) and an interest in quantum physics , you cant help noticing some broad similarities between the two - particularly with regard to the idea that the observer and the observed are highly connected . Of course Einstein couldnt handle Bohr showing him that things dont exist till you perceive them ( pure advaita ) and Einstein said ' this must be wrong . Thwre must be hidden variables we dont know about ' . We ll its been about a hundred years to show these hidden variables but in 2022 a Nobel Prize for Physics was awarded for showing that there were no hidden variables. Of course rigid thinking scientists ( should be an oxymoron) cant handle this and are still objecting to that Nobel prize .
If anyone is interested ( and i would suspect they are not ) they might want to look at the work if Bernardo Kastrup PhD PhD who gives many arguments for Idealism based on FMRI studies . His book ( available on UA-cam) ' Materialism is Baloney , i find to be particularly impressive .
Ps i think Sadguru ( like so many other self labelled gurus ) is bogus but he dies say good things about degradation of the soil by industrialised agriculture.
Here in the UK the MSM and virtually all the scientists they give voice to , are osessed with clinate change and not the wider issues of ecological disaster eg soil degradation, water shortages .
The basic dialogue is ' change your car to an EV and all will be well ' .
    Peace everbody 🕊️.

Since you have been debunking the myths around Hinduism,
It is also your responsibility to acknowledge and bring limelight on "empirical" contributions that the so-called Hindus gave to Mathematics and Sciences.
    Some of them are:
"Infinite Series Proportion" was first developed by a mathematician named "Madhava" in Kerala and was transported to Europe through Jesuits in the Malabar coast
"Modern base 10 numbers" were first used by hindus and was translated to Arabia and Europe
"The Pascal's triangle" 's concept was first discovered by a Hindu named "Pingala" in around 200 BC (consensus date but it can be stretched further back) , despite this he is not given the credit that he deserves. Wikipedia does not even mention his name in the article related to pascal's triangle.
These are some, if you dive deep, you will find plenty of contributions by our scientists/mathematicians.
You talked about Aryabhata which I really appreciate for.

Example: science says we are made up of cells. Single cell cannot be seen through naked eyes, we are visible because trillions of cells made us multicellurar & we became physical. But a bird's egg is not a muticellular, according to scientists it's a single cell but we can see through naked eyes & it has a physical presence.
Nature is abundant with such examples to grant you science & develope your scientific temprament.

Our definition of religion is primarily constructed by Abrahamic- Western understanding of God and Religion. So you will never be able to see Hinduism from Indic lens.
The concept of God in Hinduism is different from Western Abrahamic faiths. Hindu view of God is the inner one, of pure consciousness, of the state of mind where fear evaporates, where you control your sense and you achieve the peace, equality within. You realise a that Atman (pure consciousness) is indeed Brahman (the infinite, eternal consciousness)..
And Who developed Yoga? Today Yoga is world wide recognised, if you think Hinduism is false and superstitious, therefore yoga is automatically a superstitious too

Alright whatever it might be. Whatever you might want to call it. But it is a religion related text. Hindus created this book alright? It's associated with Hinduism right?
By your logic, Islam people will say that Quran is not their religious text it is a way of life.
And Christians will say that Bible is the way of life.
Everyone can then have their own opinion and you cannot disagree then.
Take one stance and stand by it. Either accept that bhagwat geeta is a religious text, or accept that other religions also have the freedom to call their religious books as philosophical texts and the ultimate truth, while painfully manipulating brain-dead humans and luring them into their religion

@@godson200 Bro, you have to read the Geeta first to classify what kind of text it is !! Geeta does not talk about God; Geeta does not talk about how to reach heaven or hell; not talk about how to follow rituals; Geeta is not a rule book, in the same way, as Manusmriti or Sharia is !! Quran or Bible contain all these topics and hence they are religious book; the Puranas are mythological books and fictional pieces of literature; the Geeta and Upanishads are merely philosophical texts !! They may have certain cultural and traditional references, used as examples to explain concepts, but the context of the book does not elaborate them; it elaborates philosophy and psychology (using whatever level and style, present at that time)!! Read atleast a single chapter of Geeta before making such claims!
