    Always loved the banjo. You've reignited my love for it again over the past year or so.
    My wife's 92 year old grandfather lived with us. I'd come home after work and he'd be sitting in the living room watching your Old Leather Stockings videos on the TV LOL!
    About to buy my first banjo and start learning. Had no idea you had a course until reading through these comments. No brainer to get it.

      My great grandfather, Clifton, great-great-great-grandfather John, and great-great-great-great...grandfather Adoniram were all Baptist preachers. Adoniram, I'm told, was a WILD man who was deported from Yorkshire, England, for vagrancy.

      Don’t look for them, they may not exist. But one common trick is the deceivers, envious and scoffers will mock my brother when he begins to do well. Were it thrust in your face take it as a sign that the tempters are angry they let one get away! All is forgiven by the Most High, men can’t hold anything against you when He is for you.

    Hi Clifton, I was drawn here somehow, and I heard Old Leatherstocking tune "Death and the Lady" and I'm blown away by the look and sound of You're performance, Wow, just Wow, I'm now a loyal Fan, God has called me to finally use my Ministerial Credential in these dark times and you're tunes are an Inspiration to me, I like many types of music from Jazz & Classical to Metal, still learning Guitar after playing for fifty years now, I need a mask similar to yours, but I'd just scare the Cat, Thank you kindly, God Bless you and yours Clifton. Mr Hicks my man I'm here because of the algorithm because I listen to a few banjo players. I've done the simpleton thing and a brief Google upon yourself and contravesy is what I find. My brother it is the hardest thing to be like Jesus in our human form, in the God given nature that we are falible, but I promise you brother, I struggle with what I have seen, but we must love. Your music is beautiful. How we gain the insight to love regardless I do not know. It's why we pray. I hate evrey day I pray for forgiveness, because only love is true intelligence and saviour, and I'm bitter because I'm not my saviour and I could so much more intellectual and engaging and compassionate, and actually help people so much more. Keep singing I pray and I dance to your music, in dance we connect to God. Bless you. AHMEN XXX

    Every time I've asked a pastor what "son of man" meant, they've told me, you wouldn't get it.
    I get it. The pharisees never did 😊
    Bless you human. Be what God made you, son of man.

    • @CliftonHicksbanjo
      @CliftonHicksbanjo  10 днів тому

      Apparently it literally translates to, "son of Adam," and was a common expression at the time. I guess Jesus put a different spin on it, calling himself _The_ Son of Adam. There is also a double meaning in his title, "the Nazarene," as _nazar_ (or notzir) translates to "branch." So not only does it reference the town of Nazareth, but also suggests a branch/creek/spring (where baptisms are practiced) as well as a branch of the lineage of David.

    Wow thanks a lot for the information about the bridges, Clifton! 🪕
    I finally got another banjo 🪕 after my previous one and my resonator guitar got stolen out of my van last summer.
    I got this new one almost 2 months ago, but I hadn’t had a bridge for it or the first string until a couple days ago… thought that I’d have to start over from scratch
    but it was so much easier to play overhand style this time starting out! 🪕
    it took me a while to get it down last year… but your UA-cam video helped a ton
    📺
    I’ve been wanting to try nylon strings, that was the first thing I thought when I got my new banjo! Never knew that you needed a different bridge for the nylon strings, but that makes sense…
    I’ve never played a banjo w ‘em or even seen them in person. Only on UA-cam and on records
    but it makes complete and perfect. Perfect sense. I’ve been looking at old banjos myself lately and I noticed that the bridges were different and I didn’t even think about how that would affect the sound or tone and the narrow or spaces seen does seem like it would increase velocity…
    seems back then that each banjo model had their own Spacing size or just however the different luthiers felt was the best.
    I like the name and the look at the website to banjo trim. It’s kind of funny!
    looks pretty authentic but modern. 🤠🪕

    • @blakebutler1671
      @blakebutler1671 16 днів тому

      Hey! So your site for banjo Heritage is awesome!
      I love the logos; the stickers and stuff🪕they’re great. 🪕🪕
      I wish I had some money!lol, I’d buy them in a heartbeat…
      In fact, the membership to your site is probably the next big purchase I’ll make…!
      …but am I not mistaken that once you’ve paid off the $197 then you are a member for life?
      Or is there yearly dues or continued monthly payments? 💳💸
      Because if not, then that’s pretty f***ing awesome!🎉
      if it is just a one time payment or even if your pay monthly because say you can’t afford the one time payment amount .
      But either way you’re done once you’ve paid off that 200 bucks?
      if not, then I understand..
      pretty cool tho especially at 57 a month is pretty steep but if you don’t have to pay every month the rest of Time or whatever…
      💵pretty cheap in the long run !!
      planning on playing this instrument for a while so that pay for itself many times over! 🪕

    • @CliftonHicksbanjo
      @CliftonHicksbanjo  16 днів тому

      I definitely prefer a wider spacing on my bridges, and it's probably easier for beginners to learn on wide spacing. But I also know a lot of people, mostly three finger pickers, who do prefer standard or even narrow spacing.

    • @CliftonHicksbanjo
      @CliftonHicksbanjo  16 днів тому +1

      Yes, BanjoHeritage.com is a just the one time payment for life. There's about 8 to 10 hours of course material there, and I do encourage you to join the Discord group. A lot of people are put-off by Discord (it's owned by lefty gamer geek types) but our private forum there is really special. Very active, very helpful, and it's staunchly FREE SPEECH, which exists nowhere else in the music world. You will find all types in there from city slickers who like to drink, cuss, and party, to Bible thumping wilderness preachers, and plenty of normies in between. It's a great group and yes they do meet up in person all over the world.

    • @CliftonHicksbanjo
      @CliftonHicksbanjo  8 днів тому +1

      Yes, BanjoHeritage.com is my beginners course. I designed it like a college “survey” class, which is meant to be introductory while also diving deeply into a few core areas of study. In other words, much of the material will also be new to intermediate and advanced players, but it was created with beginner banjo players as its focus.

    Great performance. Love the sound of the banjo. What strings do you use? I've been wanting to fit some nylon strings to an old vega, currently has steel. Though think I may need to change the tailpiece?

    • @CliftonHicksbanjo
      @CliftonHicksbanjo  16 днів тому +8

      Those are Aquila NEW Nylgut. I'm not a fan of the old Nylgut, but they're OK too. These NEW Nylgut strings are also called "1892" because they were copied from a pack of original gut strings from 1892 that were provided by Joel Hooks. When you switch to nylon strings, you'll want to switch to a traditional two-legged bridge as well. These can be ordered from Mr. Hooks (when in stock) at his website: BanjoThimble.com

    • @oldtimetunesandsongs

      @CliftonHicksbanjo Thanks, I'll definitely grab a set. Many thanks for the bridge advice too, hadn't even crossed my mind. I'll try it on a fretless banjo I have too, as currently has a 3 foot bridge. Hoping it might make it sound abit better as I'm not overly happy with it at the moment. Cheers again

    • @CliftonHicksbanjo
      @CliftonHicksbanjo  5 днів тому +2

      You can play this out of a G chord on guitar, I'm pretty sure. If my banjo was twisted up to standard pitch it'd be gDGBD (open G tuning); however, I tune to my natural singing voice which is considerably lower, so here I'm dropped down to eBEG♯B.

      I can't use that stuff anymore! It's a chemical salt that I think is extracted from petroleum. It burns my hands when I throw it to the soil; I don't think it's good. It sure does make beans and corn grow tall, though. I just worry that it's harming the land over time.
      "The whole land will be covered with brimstone, salt, and burning debris; it will not be planted nor will it sprout or produce grass." - Deuteronomy 29:23
      "They will be like a shrub in the arid rift valley. They will not experience good things even when they happen. It will be as though they were growing in the stony wastes in the wilderness, in a salt land where no one can live." - Jeremiah 17:6
      "Be certain that Moab will become like Sodom and the Ammonites like Gomorrah. They will be overrun by weeds, filled with salt pits, and permanently desolate. Those of my people who are left will plunder their belongings; those who are left in Judah will take possession of their land.” Zephaniah 2:9
