I like the deeper dive too. Don’t be afraid to put the first reaction and the deep dive in one video. We’ll watch it! Swifties favorite thing is to watch new swifties being born 🎉
Taylor stopped saying citing exes names by the third album; and she didn't talk about them in interviews after telling the Ellen audience in 2008 that Joe Jonas broke up with her in a 25 second phone call (he later said, she hung up on _him_ , but . . . kids. 🙄🙄) She doesn't say who songs are about, or be specific --- she learned not to discuss it outside of the music itself. (She's even refused to admit Dear John is about Mayer; worth noting she also wrote Ours about him. maybe. ) Fun fact: Ed knew his wife when they were teens, but they went separate ways. He opened for Taylor's Red tour in 2013, and was at a 4th of July party at her place in RI. He called his girl, and she was in Boston! instead of London. (Driving, a bit over an hour). Ed asked Taylor if she could come to join them, and she agreed. Sheeran called her almost daily while she was isolating herself in 2016; she helped him a couple years later when his wife (pregnant) was diagnosed with cancer. The friendship is very real, and solid.
I love the deep dive video!! Great insights! Keep going and yeah like some others said we will definitely listen to a longer video if you put first take and deep dive together!! 🙃👏🏼
first string: starting players, varsity sports. A-Team has the same meaning, but _also_ is a song by Ed Sheeran, and also a TV series from the 1970s (cold war comedy, sort of a parody of Mission Impossible). Her songs deliberately layer multiple meanings; she likes poetry. Oh, it occurs to me UK soccer leagues also use letter designations for tiers. (and her friend Ryan Reynolds took an interest in a UK soccer team).
I love the deep dive! Also, as others have said, feel free to put analysis in your first reaction if you want. If you make it , we Swifties will find and watch it. 🙂🔥🔥
Awesome that you're doing a deep dive into a Taylor song - you're on point with most of your commentary. I had no idea about the E-string being first; I like the idea that it could mean "everything". Ed Sheeran did end up marrying his school sweetheart. And A-Team in his lyric references his own song - it was his first hit. I just looked it up and per Wiki, the song has a very dark side "it is a folk ballad about a sex worker addicted to crack cocaine, a Class A drug. It was written after Sheeran visited a homeless shelter and heard some of the stories of the lives people had been living. He wrote the song following a last-minute performance at an event for the homeless". As for Taylor, she has always read a LOT and consumes a lot of TV and films, so she's very current on pop culture references. You'll really see this in the Bad Blood video where you will see models, actresses, & other singers that she knows or that she is a fan of. Taylor's pen game is incredible. Most of her lyrics can be interpreted multiple ways. They are callbacks to pop culture, to her own life, and more often than not they are callbacks to other songs/lyrics of hers or they are forward looking and you will see some of the same phrases (but bent slightly) in future songs on the same album or a later album. Lastly, there are the obvious sports references - A-team, first-string, etc. - a lot of Swifties look back on some of these songs now and say she was manifesting her relationship with Travis without even knowing it. Looking forward to your next breakdown - you're doing great so far! And I'm not sure why this video doesn't have more views - could just be the algorithm not putting it in front of people???
Yeah I think that’s one of the reasons I’m enjoying her songs, there’s layers to her. Also I uploaded the video yesterday and unlisted it a few minutes after because I thought both videos would compete with each other. Looking back that probably was a mistake haha, I’m still learning this UA-cam stuff 😁 Also I appreciate the support!
I’m so glad to finally hear a man say that she writes about her exes because that’s how artists cope with their emotions because usually men just say “don’t date Taylor if you don’t want a song about you” she is quoted as saying that nobody says anything when men write about their relationships but when she does it she is judged for it. She also said “when men stop doing bad things I’ll stop writing about the bad things they did” people seem to not comment on the fact she has 2 albums full of love songs about her last long term relationship and 2 songs about her current relationship. One of her albums is literally named Lover but people don’t talk about that 🙄
i LOVE that you said she uses her art to cope because so many people say awful things about her for writing about her life and love and its so unfair. art is a form of expression and like you said it's a way to process our emotions -- so thank you! :)

I agree! I loved this format- he used it for the Exile reaction.

Yes, thank you for having the energy to explain all of it. Hard story for me to explain. I appreciate it.
I love your interpretations of her songs! I never thought about the first string being the E string! That’s such a cool thought
Thanks Amanda! glad you enjoyed it
