You can't take her too literally, she uses a lot of metaphors. She also creates characters, example: the media says she's a serial dater, collecting men, etc. So she created that character in Blank Space and may be part of this character as well. Again, the Netflix special can help with understanding her.

My husband and I were at this tour as well as the Eras Tour. We’ve been in nosebleed both times, but I 100% believe there’s not a bad seat at a Taylor Swift show. The experience is amazing!

Regarding turning her back - Tay uses every inch of the stage. She wants everyone in the stadium to feel like she is singing to them. She is very aware of the cameras and that is why it often feels like she is looking directly at you/the audience/the viewer at home. And her productions are like a film or a Broadway show there nothing is left to chance - she maps everything out years in advance and is involved in every aspect of the recordings and stage shows.

I like that, for a person new to Taylor Swift's music, you bring a lot of insight and personal references. Not knowing that she dated Joe Alwyn for 6 years, including Reputation and Lover album and tours, its insightful that you picked up on it may be a toxic relationship. Like a drug sometimes people fall in love with people that aren't the best for them. Great catch.

New here, loved this reaction! One thing you'll notice about Taylor's discography is that it is a rabbit hole of different sounds, lyric styles, and genres. She really has SUCH a variety of different music. She is also NOTORIOUS for leaving Easter eggs in her songs, sometimes tying songs that were released several years apart to each other. For example, "Dear John" is a song that she wrote about John Mayer when she was 19. It's definitely got more of that "storyteller" country-Taylor vibe... but then she wrote "Would've, Could've, Should've" when she was in her 30's, which is her perspective on the same relationship as a fully-grown woman. It's crazy to listen to those two songs and realize how much she has grown over the years, both personally and and as a songwriter. "Would've, Could've, Should've" uses a LOT of religious imagery to tell the story of the song. But when you get around to listening to those songs, I would recommend listening to them back-to-back, so you get the full context in one sitting.
Ps - I also recommend listening to "Betty", "Cardigan", and "August" back to back to back. Three separate songs that tell the story of a teenage love-triangle, each from the perspective of the 3 central characters. ❤

My 23yo daughter saw her last summer at Levi Stadium. She has liked her since she first around in 2006 (my daughter was 6). Her ticket was $306. And no, they weren't crappy seats either. Also, the majority of her band has been with her since the beginning. For abouf 20 years. Amazing actually

10 minutes in - yes, she had two of those relationships when she was really young and inexperienced. She dated John Mayer (who pursued her then messed with her head). Her song Dear John is about him. Then she dated Jake Gyllenhaal who was also 10 years older than her. Jake tried to hide the relationship. All Too Well is about him. The original released version was a regular length song, but she revealed in an interview that the song was originally 10 minutes long and she finally released that version and a short film video of it years later.
Some of her songs, as others mentioned are not autobiographical, but they are based on the media or fan perception of her. She never confirms or denies if the theories are correct.

Taylor turned her back to _that_ camera . She produces all her tour films, it is intentional. The stage has two extensions into the audience, and she uses all of the stage. With all the screens and rigging, the stage is bigger than a Boeing 767. The venue for the tour film is the AT&T stadium, Arlington, TX.

Not _all_ older guys; Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner, Harry Styles, and Joe Alwyn are her age or younger; John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Tom Hiddleston were about a decade older (and she would have been the age of a college undergrad for Mayer and Gyllenhaal). Calvin Harris was a few years older, but she was mid-twenties at that point. Kelce is about her age now.

When you said church, I chuckled, this song is referred to as the take me to church song by some, including myself. There were only 2 really older guys, and they broke her heart, John Mayer, Taylor was 19, and with Jake Gyllenhaal, Taylor was 20/21, both guys are still dating younger women. You just repeated old media lies, Taylor, to date has dated around 13 guys in 18-plus years. Taylor is a diehard romantic and passionate person. She has never written sh!t about guys, unless they really deserved it, the song Dear John describes their relationship, he was definitely toxic, other young women, some of them famous has said the same about him. The song "All Too Well" is the song about Jake Gyllenhaal, the 10-minute version song and the short film will clarify everything. But Taylor does not breakup with guys for the sake of a song. For the duration of Reputation, Lover, folklore, evermore, Midnights (Midnights is when she and her boyfriend broke up) Joe Alwyn a British actor had been her boyfriend. So for 6 years, she was with 1 boyfriend, and they broke up early last year. One more thing, in case it comes up, the media portrays Taylor's fans as young girls, but actually Taylor's primary fan base are her age, 34, but she has fans of all ages (65 here) female and male and of all races. dude, this is the Reputation album; what the media sorts are getting wrong about her. This song is depicting a persona the media/gossip rags made about her (love crazy bimbo). For her description of that persona, see her 2015 solo performance of Blank Space at the Grammy museum ( ua-cam.com/video/p1Zt47V3pPw/v-deo.html ) A lot of the first part of the album (co-written with Max Martin and Johann Shellback, as was most of her 1989 album) resurrects the satire she brought up in the earlier album. Whenever a lyric suggests a rumor or people talking about her, it is almost always a parody. / "They say she's gone too far this time" / Underneath a lot of the songs, though, is her real life love for Joe Alwyn (a relationship that lasted for 6 years, ending in 2023). Alwyn is the love interest for Reputation, Lover, folklore, Evermore, and Midnights. I think the aliens/ bug people are her anxieties ---- she's talked about her personal insecurities in interviews for a couple decades now. Or, maybe they represent the critics?

Mayer wasn’t a good outcome but idk if she’s alluding that guy. Sometimes it’s just a common thing.. she’s dated a good amount but it’s not worked out until Travis. She’s never used anyone bc she’s just too kind. She is always the one that’s been hurt. She and Harry Styles are still cool with each other.
Taylor takes the critiques by the media and owns and sings about them. She turns the tables. She's only dated 2 older guys. At a time when she was 18-21. Both were in their 30's at the time. Unfortunately i couldn’t go to the reputation tour but i did just recently see her eras tour (she does this song there too) and let me tell you it is mpre epic when you’re there.
Concert isn’t that expensive for original tickets but the resale ones go up a lot because of scalpers, Especially in america! (I’m swedish and saw her in Stockholm) and it’s sad that it’s like that. I bought vip tickets here in sweden for around 350 dollars and regular ones on top of the bleachers for like 70 dollars. But for now it’s only resale tickets available in america. So you gotta get lucky to not get to expensive tickets.
I met a lot of americans in Stockholm because it was cheaper for them to fly to europe then buy resale tickets in the us.

I have never understood the dancers' costumes so if anyone can comment I would love you forever! 😘😘 And for the cost of a ticket to her US tour, you can literally buy a plane ticket, hotel, food and tickets for a show anywhere in Europe. They have price controls on ticket sales/resells.

You got me with the “Another day another drama drama” lyric being stuck in your head as it’s so true! And you comparing this to Dirty Diana by MJ blew me away. I’ve listened to this song so many times and that never occurred to me but you’re so right!! The epic-ness of it all. As for the meaning of this song, I always took it as she’s been with other guys but suddenly found one that she becomes addicted to like you said: the dopamine becomes addictive. People shake and pace when they need a fix. It’s like using drugs as a metaphor for being intoxicated by someone. Whether or not this person is good for her is a theme….sounds thrilling but kinda toxic too.

Loving your reactions. Everyone is giving you suggestions how to approach this! lol. I think you should start with Reputation, it is the beginning of meeting and falling in love with Joe, the media cancellation, Kanye and Kim. A lot of these themes and the story continue like chapters starting with Reputation, then lover, then folklore/evermore, midnights, then finally ttpd. If you want to understand the context of the songs, then you kinda have to go back in order to go forward. She references older songs or incidents in her music. It’s not necessary to know ahead of time but it helps to know her headspace when she wrote it. TTPD is about the breakup with Joe (starting with reputation) and then falling briefly and stupidly for an old flame who seemed to love bomb her while her relationship with Joe was breaking down. All the phases of depression and finally acceptance & moving on is the anthology.

Someday, if you watch the Reputation Stadium Tour movie, you will see the official footage of this song. I'm not certain, but I believe that this video might be intermixed with some fan footage (in order to allow the video to stay up for years without being taken down (?)) In any case, it is the best video I'm aware of for this song, and it is the one that fans generally recommend (so far as I've seen). Unfortunately, I don't know how to find the full movie. It was on Netflix for many years but is no longer. Hopefully it is, or soon will be, available to stream and/or purchase somewhere. The Reputation album is one of the two that do not yet have official Taylor's Versions. Most people are expecting Rep TV to be released in the fall (but Taylor is always full of surprises, so predictions are always sketchy). Also, when you watch the Eras Tour movie, you will see the newest version of this song, which is utterly awesome. There are Eras Tour videos of the song on UA-cam but since you are probably going to watch the movie, you might as well wait until then to see that version. (The movie is 3.5 hours, so it's a bit of a commitment.)
BTW: Taylor's music is often described as "diaristic" and "confessional" but there are also a lot of metaphors and liberal use of poetic license, so, personally, I try to ignore most speculations about "who's this or that song about?" Taylor never says (although she did leave clues in her first couple of albums before she grew up enough to realize it's a bad idea). Lots of swifties, however, have created a whole industry centered on speculating and providing their evidence. Not my cup of tea.
In the Stadium Tour intro leading into "Ready For It", you will get some insights into the media frenzy that accompanied her social cancellation and Reputation Tour comeback. The Miss Americana doc will give a bunch more insights into that. (The intro was seen on screen by fans at the Rep concert.)

She specifically learned choreography for this tour to clap back, essentially, at the repeated criticism that she can't dance. As amazing as the Eras Tour is, Reputation is where she rose from the ashes, not to be trifled with.

I’d suggest songs from folklore, this is my fav album of hers. There is a love traingle in the songs cardigan,august,betty and each song is from a different perspective. Cardigan is from betty’s pov, august is from augistine pov(the girl who james cheated with) and betty from james pov. It is really interesting. Some ofher good songs are my tears ricochet, exile, this is me trying. Evermore is second fav album and some good songs are champagne problems, tolerate it, no body no crime(fun storytelling)
