Wow, I caught myself with my mouth open as I was watching him make those hats! It is such a pleasure watching a true craftsman do their work. Always surprised at the skill of people. Amazing. I am really jealous for one of those hat! You both look great in them and they were good choices for each of you. I can't wait to visit.
I like that this is only 20 minutes away from Manta; I’ll take the tour just to watch him make the hats (and buy one of course 😊). Definitely on my list to visit!!
Amelia, I am planning to go to Manta very soon for a 1 month. Would like to stay not in the hotel. I'll have 2 tiny very good trained dogs. What I need to do to go this vacation smoothly?
I was on a tour group in 2016. to Panama and of course the tour group was taken to a hat maker in Panama that sold “Panama” hats, of course the tour guide told us the whole story about where they had originated…..in Ecuador…..I didn’t buy a hat though, I’m not a hat person, but seeing you with those hats…..I want one now! :-)
I love this place! Loved seeing the hats being made. I love Fidoras. You two seem to be doing well. Thanks for sharing your adventures. What a great life!❤
You can totally use chevere here is Ecuador 🤗 next time you go to Montecristi you should try the restaurant Trattoria da Gabriele! Delicious food if you like Italian 🙂👍
Good memories of Montecristi. When we went we also checked out the hat shop and purchased a couple of hats. The museum was great also. We also went to the huge fish market and walked the trail at Pacoche lodge and reserve. Where they have the worlds small frogs. About the size of a finger nail. Manta is a wonderful place. Hopefully in a few years we will move from Quito to Manta. Nice video...😊👍👍
Love your adventure. Lying you know that because of you we ended up going to Olon and rented a villa. While at the beach we were looking for you at the beach no luck.
Thank you for the tour of such a beautiful little city. I love your hats, ! I had a few different ones years ago . They hold up well. I noticed the mercado areas are very similar the the ones here in Peru , and also the artesenias. Thanks again !
Que divertido ver a una Estadounidense hablar en español pero con modismos ecuatorianos jeje les queda como anillo al dedo esos sombreros, perfectos son como un lujo para la gente extranjera, hechos con cariño por mis compatriotas ecuatorianos.
Those hats look so good on yall thanks for making this video .I jus got my optimo two months ago it was made in montecristi they look great they'll last a lifetime.
After watching your video we went to Modesto Hats yesterday (we’re visiting Manta from Cuenca). We got the whole tour as well and wound up with a couple of great hats. It is so cool having hats that we actually watched being made!
Not sure if you know this guys, it is not information from the video but sometimes money is called "plata" here in Ecuador. Great video and beautiful hats!
Really enjoyed watching JP's hat being made, quite interesting, also liked when he showed how to tell a quality hat. Modesto Mero is quite skilled! Weird that just because they were purchased in Panama they became Panama hats, regardless of where they were made.
I arrived in Ecuador a week ago. You might want to warn people about phone theft. My cellphone was stolen a few days after I arrived in Quito. I have had an enjoyable time in Ecuador other than the problem with the phone theft.
Not only in Ecuador ,the problem persists in SA. I live in Peru and my wife and friends have had them stolen. You need to be aware of who is around you. Sometimes they will follow you.Just be cautious and aware and you'll be fine. Take care
You guys are amazing!!...really enjoy all you're videos!!...thanks for staying in one of the cultural and history places like Montecristi, all you need is Ecuador!!...the bacansísimo place as you say🤣🤣👍!!...very good spanish!!.. Congrats😊😊👍👍
There has been always positive exchange between USA and good ecuadorians I like how progressive Alfaro brought a Filadelphia train. Now Americans enjoy Montecristi in peace.
In 1906, U.S. president Theodore Roosevelt shows off a gorgeous Montecristi hat at the inauguration of the Panama Canal, and from that moment the hat becomes known and appreciated in the whole world.
El sombrero de paja Toquilla, (Panama hat) is a very curious thing. The thinner the fiber the more expensive but beautiful they are. They are made in Montecristi but also on Cuenca. There is also the "Centro de formación artesanal de Pile" in the town of Pile where they teach people about the hats and how they make them.
Ja ja ja ja ja ja ja ja ja ja ja bacansisimo.. It looks divine on you.. Amelia..congrats both of you... Gracias por mostrar nuestro país al mundo.. The true panamá hat are Ecuadorian.. That's is the point.. A hug.. 😜👌
Amelia and JP, both are amazing. A Great educative video. I admire the ex- president Alfaro and the manual dexterity of our talented and skillful artisans, also with you, I'm improving the four English skills because I'm an English professor in a Public University. Warm regards.
What a coincidence it was to meet both of you in Montecristi. Yes that was me the weirdo fan yelling at ciudad Alfaro “I’m a subscriber!!!!!!!” Lol you guys so much fun and it’s contagious. Keep doing what you do! Only down side… I thought to see ourselves in the video 😢😢😢😂😂😂 next time!!! Lol -Danny and Genesis from Sarasota, FL
Thanks for sharing guys! We have a friend in Montecristi who made me a hat. I love to see the content that is informational or educational in some way. We are trying to do something similar here in Loja. But as you know shooting and editing videos is a lot of work! At any rate, keep up the good work. Thanks, Wayne.

My mother played basketball in the 1940's for the all female school in Montecristi...

Great video. I'm sure you could do an entire episode on the mausoleum alone...
I would be curious to know how much a hat like that runs in Ecuador.
Nice Hats - no more sunburn on the nose

and from that moment the hat becomes known and appreciated in the whole world.
