In my opinion its not the matter of quality.. every company exceeded in the expectation with their products.. but bharat forge usked their knowledge and experience to come up with their own systems wich were world class, that's where it gained edge over other two..

On howitzers, they have done the right thing - which is to act in a way that promotes an eco-system of builders in India. In fact, they should buy multiple guns to support multiple manufacturers. The diversity will come in handy in times of crisis. I wish they would do this with other programs too.

Indian Army's artillery aims at having 155/52 caliber gun for all its regiments. Acquisition of M777 guns was meant for very special purpose for which 145 gun that is about seven regiments (two artillery brigades or may be three brigades) . M77 is titanium guns of short barrels that 155 / 39 caliber only and is light gun that can be used in mountains and airborne ops. It has a cost of $ 3.7 m per gun. Vajra T-9 again is a special purpose Gun system which were initially meant to be produced only 100 (5 Regts) but due to Ladakh sector becoming active another 100 have been ordered. Vajra T-9 cost $ 4.5 m per system. ATAGS is the standard 155/52 Gun that will be the mainstay of Indian Army artillery. It cost about $3.8 m per gun. Dhanus is 155 /45 gun primarily meant to replace Bofors which in due course will be replaced by ATAGS. Dhanus costs about $3.12m per gun. Thus ATAGS will be the main gun of artillery. M777 and Vajra will be special purpose system. Besides these IA may opt for some motorized 155mm guns. IA does not need any further M777 Guns except for replacement subsequently. All that crap is a sellu propaganda.

Titanium parts cannot be repaired in battlezone and that is a huge factor.
Maybe I am wrong. But now a days I often see people talk about aquisition by keeping parts commonality at the center of discussion which is not always possible. Regarding Titanium makeup, the same thing I heard from an engineer working at Bharat Forge that Titanium will increase cost, hence to manage pricing they also make steel variant. Don't know about the life cycle cost of a titanium variant over steel variant.
It's difficult to maintain in battlefield

I HAVE ALREADY WORKED WITH DEFENSE PSU AND CAN TELL THAT ALL DRAWINGS OF BOFORS WERE AVAILABLE SINCE 1986 BUT SOME PARTS OF PROCESS SHEETS WERE UNAVAILABLE. TILL 1996-98 NO EFFORTS WERE MADE FOR MFGR OF REPLACEMENT PARTS OF BOFORS...

One thing that normal defence and biased defence experts are missing is that the technology of artillery gun in the form of Bofors gun(because of technology transfer Claus agreement) was there with India for so many years...... but they have not utilise its date due to the(DALLALS) export lobby,( who were interested in importing guns)....... that date, they are using now ...... ..... both public sector as well as private sector.....
Otherwise we might have been building artillery guns long back.....
One can not be right on everything.
Hope AIM watch these videos in positive way and learn from it.
And one cannot be forgiven for being repeatedly wrong as well. AIM has not started saying these things now, he has been doing it for years. He wants India become a colony of the US.

main problem in Indian artillery gun is it's range. both Chaina and Pak has artilleries with longer range than us. We should take care of it.
Totally agree with you and Thanks for reminding. Even we purchased bofors shell from SA firm Danell bcoz Swedes doesn't sell the bofors shell during war and had sign this when bofors were purchased.
I remember a shell cost 20000rs per shell in 1999.

ATAGS should be IA's main gun. And this can be used for a base for future development including tracked variants because there is enough experience in manufacturing tracks for tanks

Sir it is not liking L&T or Bharat Forge involved in manufacturing defence equipments to safe guard the sovereignty of the nation.The defence personnel must give more weightage for the quality of equipments instead of who is manufacturing because if it fails in battle field,we will not only loose our territory but also innocent forefront warriors who sacrifice everything for the nation.Every private organisations in this country must work with understanding and hand and gloves with DRDO for achieving extra results in safeguarding the nation from rogue neighboring country like Pakistan & China.Jai hind.
In the past, our defense procurements were largely done badly due to poor political leadership. Now its changing for good. Hopefully ATAGS, K9 and few other new arrivals would change our artillery to be more powerful.

Army is Making a Mistake and that isnt related to logistics but related to aquisition and to not setting the priorities/requirements right....at current warfare with success of Kamikaze Drones we need more shoot and scoot guns and tracked howitzers are required like K9 Vajra...Garuda 105 V2, TC-20 MArG, Dhanush based Wheeled Howitzer, and MGS based on ATAGS are just floating around as concepts and Army doesn't seem to want to Induct them and waste their potential...just 2-3 years of long trials....Only Induction in the list is the K9 but we all know that 300 wont make a cut....even these 300 would take 2030 to be inducted at the current rate since the second batch of 100 is still undergoing paper work and order is not placed....

This is why i always say that blacklisting of a compaby isnt the solution. Instaef they should br made to pay fines, around 10 to 25 percent of thr contract, won through scams or corruption. This will allow us to satisfy the requirements of the defence forces in a better manner and more efficiently.
Remember how the world got to know about US made and SOVIET made weapons? The Second World War. Before that nobody knew about the industrial prowess of these two countries especially in military sector. The Lend Lease policy helped the Allies to get a hand on each other's technology and learn and develop.
Learning - We need a war to get to showcase our weapons tech. If not directly then indirectly.
Support opposing factions in the African countries and also rebels from other countries. Sell the weapons. Let them test verify them. Covert and overt wars are necessary for ramping up productions. It will create jobs in the home country as the demand increases for both self use and export. Innovation will follow. More money will be made. Engineered wars are more profitable.

Must be made in India all these guns; otherwise, in time of war you will not be able to sustain supplies of new guns plus ammunition ( made in India). Especially for long term 3 years or more continuous war like ww2. Same true for Tejas, LCH , etc…

The Gunners are good at IT and they pack a punch from each of their Gun Systems and don't need accolades from a Think Tanker who has never attended a live fire exercise....would end up shitting bricks. This is National Defence and if someone does not like the decision makers verdict which has come about after field testing in Indian conditions to meet Indian requirements then so be it. We still have a system for selecting defence systems....and not a single window clearing mechanism where only armchair think tankers are at the helm of affairs. God Bless our country.
