It's very nice to let people see how much work goes into restauration or repairing stuff, people underestimate it vastly. Cheap and great work, don't go together.

I get a feeling restoring a Minor Traveller is closer to building furniture than ordinary cars...

Excellent video, plenty of detail and I like the easy presentation that gives me time to take it in. Thanks a lot.

Having purchased an identical Traveller after lockdown from someone who replaced all the wood as a lockdown project, I then found it leaked like a sieve the first time it rained. The leaks are all now cured except for the one from the rubber sealing strip on the cab roof. Eagerly awaiting the next instalment to see how to do the job properly. Great series so far.

Ah. We've not, as yet, filmed anything regarding that seal. I'll try to remember to discuss when we're filming next week.

Tim does incredible work. That car is going to be better than new when he is done. Fantastic job.

Lovely - a bit like a mobile Morris sideboard. Thanks for this peaceful little bit of vehicular rejuvenation.

Tim is doing a right fine job. Great point you brought up about the door size and fitting in. As a large individual, it is annoying when you try to get in a car and it's a struggle to get in and out. I love that Morris, but the only way I would be able to travel in it is in the back like a piece of luggage. Wonderful Job on that lovely car!

Totally amazing work from Tim. It must take hundreds of hours to develop those skills. This is a great series!

Nice to see a craftsman at work. Most joiners would struggle to achieve that level of expertise, very impressive.

There's an unrestored Minor van which lives in Fitzrovia, the bit of London west of Tottenham Court Road. I think I've got a photo of it somewhere. I'm not sure whether it's black or really really really really dark blue, like socks made for non-priests. I assume it's used by a local shop or business.

Fascinating series I had no idea so much work was involved, the standard of work carried out by Tim is quite superb too.

a traveller is basically built from a 2 door car. longer doors to access rear seats.

My mate was given one of these back in the eighties, (same colour). It was basically falling apart and all the wood was rotten. Came out one day to discover it on his parent’s driveway completely stripped of engine, gearbox, wheels etc. The insurance payout paid for a complete restoration, it ended up as a beautiful car!

It'll have far straighter woodwork than my shed, that's a given, and more watertight too... :P

My dad fancied getting a Traveller for us to restore between us. Dad was a coachbuilder by trade and he really knew his stuff but I'm still glad we didn't bother in the end! Mission.
With that said, I'd love a Traveller. Useful little vehicle and they look awesome. I'd prefer someone else to restore the rear bodywork though...

It's starting to look like they did when brand new. Lovely looking small cars that often attracted admiring glances. I was rather sad when they stopped making them. The other popular car of the 1960's and 70's with exterior wooden trim was the Mini Clubman.
Both cars must have been a bit of a nightmare to manufacture whilst trying to keep costs down.

    • @HubNut
      @HubNut  2 роки тому

The Mini woodies had one key difference - the wood was entirely cosmetic.

How on earth did BMC (or the Nuffield Group or whoever it was at the time) see a wooden wagon construction as an economical way to build a cheap wagon? Its so fiddly…. Brilliant restoration!

So glad the timber on my Morris Mini Traveller is only cosmetic and not structural as it is on the Minor. Still a pretty tedious job to replace.
Shameless plug to my channel where you can follow my adventures and modifying of my now “Cooper S” Traveller 😎

McAffee web advisor does not appear to like the Cambrian Classics web site, it has a big ? against it as a possible insecure/unknown site. All your's have a ✔against them as safe sites.

So when these cars where built in factory it must have cost a fortune in Labour. I wonder if they made any money?
