Another thing to point out about the rhythm and arrangement of this song is that during the chorus (where they say ‘rock you’) there’s a driving electronic 1/16 note pattern (sounds like a picked guitar ala Nile Rodgers, or an electronic clavinet/clave) that gets layered into the mix. It really kicks the syncopation into overdrive and makes the groove incredibly infectious. It’s also takes a lot of pressure off the bass and drums to carry that 16th note feel, and allows them to simplify a bit and take some personal liberties with their parts. It’s very well produced.
Check out the Songs for Lovers project. It's four instrumentals by the bassist and drummer (the lead vocalist is on one of them on keys). You'll enjoy those.
