I first saw Corey play about 7 or 8 years ago, playing for Christian Scott, when he was only 21 years old and he completely blew me away. I’ve seen him play dozens of times since, with Christian Scott, Nicholas Payton, and his own band Butcher Brown, and I have many albums that he plays on, by Christian Scott, Butcher Brown, Justin Kauflin, and Javier Santiago. He just gets better and better every time I see him. What is particularly gratifying is that I remember asking him, way back when I first met him, who his favourite players playing today were and the first name he mentioned was Karriem Riggins, and now here he is sharing equal billing with him. What sets Corey apart is that he has extraordinary technique; there is an emotional directness and transparency to his playing, it’s very expressive; and he has an incredibly deep sense of groove. He once said something along the lines of “No matter what time signature a song is in, I always feel it in 4”, and I sort of understand what he means -- even when he is playing an odd meter the groove is so strong that you don’t even notice. He is an incredibly nice bloke too.
I was also introduced to him via Christian Scott. Dude is like a hybrid between Steve Jordan and Tony Williams. I’m so glad to see this man is finally getting some recognition I used to watch UA-cam videos of Butcher Brown jam sessions in a bedroom studio and even back then his groove was immaculate.
This series is so inspiring!!! I will always be a Zildjian player but I really appreciate that they’re highlighting the drummers who love Zildjian, but are kinda slept on. Thank you Zildjian
I wish Karriem Riggins or one of those guys would release a new and improved version of Yum Yum. I love Dilla, but I prefer this take of 'Yum Yum'. The Dilla/Slum Village joint keeps the sample way low, this is nice and clean in the mix, with those drums...it's something else.
Bass is barely audible in the mix. I know this is supposed to be "about the drums", but I don't see why the mix can't be a little more balanced. Thanks for the quality content though.
Goodness gracious!!!!! My boy is amazing as always smh. It's about time he getting all the love he deserves, Special talent
The best part of this video is the bassist and the drummer bouncing and smiling at each other.
That's how it is.

For me Jojo is more into eletrônic/drumnbass. But i guet the Idea, more Groove orientes songs. This vídeo is more like Chris Dave vibes.

Wack a o wack a o o o o
That spiral cymbal looks like a nightmare to transport. Also sounds terrible. Not as terrible as the rapper but pretty terrible.
gigdrummer not....not really. It folds and fits into a cymbal bag nicely.
Shhhhh gig shhh
Collapses like a slinky into a flat disk like your other cymbals. Fits right in the bag. More an effect than a cymbal for sound...
you just dont have good taste and javier is fire so stfu
Stfu dawg
Such an annoying sample.
