  • 2014 Scion FRS / Subaru BRZ with 18x8.5 rims with +35 offset (all 4). Tires are 225/45/R18
    They are overall bigger than stock. I wanted to avoid lowering it and tried to cheat, but didn't work (I suppose some 19s would work lol), but I will still have to drop her down an inch.
    The bigger tires do give a softer ride, so that is nice.
    YES the speedometer will be 4 MPH under at 100, but I don't mind.
    I don't know too much about wheels or what will happen when I lower it (camber etc), but I'll keep you posted.
    The one thing I'm still confused about is if "DECREASING THE OFFSET NUMBER PUSHES THE WHEELS OUT AND INCREASING THE OFFSET SUCKS THE WHEELS IN." then why is the +35 in the front sticking out if +32 should be flush? Oh well, hope this helps someone!

    Not sure who said 35 would be flush on 8.5 inch rims but 35 would be expected to stick out about half an inch. For 8.5 inch wheels you need a front offset of 40-43. 40 to be flush with the top of the fender, 43 to be flush half way down the fender. It still would look a bit weird imo, and you'd be scary close to suspension parts. And for the rear 37-40 offset, again it would look weird imo. Wheel math is fun.

    Sup bro just bought a white BRZ, this video is very helpful in seeing what this width/offset looks like on stock height. i myself am probably going to lower my car 1-1.5" front and rear and plan on going 18x8.5 +35 up front and 18x9.5 +35 in the rear. Just FYI, you may have learned since this video is a year old, but in cars lower off set pushes wheels out (poke fit) and higher offset tucks them in (tuck fit) so +40 offset is going to be more inside the well than a +35 which will poke out more. You should watch fitment industries videos very helpful. Anyway thanks for showing this. have you lowered your car yet?

  • @chandy4ever
    @chandy4ever 4 роки тому

    @TravelingDirector, very useful video info and discussion. So to confirm, your new wheels compared to the stock setup, has filled up your wheel well by another 17mm (radius). And then you lowered it by an inch? Is it rubbing after the lowering? Are you on stock shocks?
    I was researching a similar move with just bigger sidewall from 215/45 to 215/55 on stock 17”, but I feel the extra 21mm wheelwell space may rub when my stock shocks absorb a pothole.

    • @TravelingDirector
      @TravelingDirector  4 роки тому +1

      Close, but the car has not been lowered, so what you see is the car on stock height, but with the larger rims

    • @chandy4ever
      @chandy4ever 4 роки тому

      TravelingDirector. how's it been on gutters / pot holes?
      Increasing total wheel diameter makes a negative scrub radius, which on a rwd car makes more tow-in that is supposed to increase stability at the expense of cornering. So you feeling any noticeable change in the handling/cornering? :)

The width of the springs was too much and upgrading to coilovers really gave me that clearance. No rubbing and no issues 👌🏼I also had to buy camber bolts for the front because of the coilovers. Without the camber bolts, I had too much positive camber which made the tires go inward like a V in the front. Got it aligned after and I was good to go 100%
