Basically if u want a nice aggressive and good handling set up to daily street, get an 18x9.5 +40 off set. It is the most common specs for this platform. As for tires, depends if u want some rim poking out or not. Most common tire set up for 18x9.5 wheels is 255/35/18. Keep in mind different tire brands are wider and shorter in terms of side wall. For ex, Michelin pilot sport 4s will look slimmer than hankook evo 2’s even tho they’re both 35 side wall. 255 is the width, 35 is the side wall and 18 means it’s for an 18 inch wheel. Make sure u change to coilovers if ur gonna run this set up. Or it will rub on the stock strut.
Also be mindful that not all wheels will clear bbk on these cars and if u ever need some references fitment industry has a gallery of wheel and tire setups for our vehicles that helped me out alot for my search for wheels
Great that you're explaining this to the masses because so many get it wrong. I see it all the time, they choose a nice looking wheel with the right stud pattern but then the offset is wrong requiring them to run narrower tyres that are stretched and a stupid amount of negative camber. Other than just having to roll the guard lip, that's just silly.
What does it rub on ? Shocks ? I am asking because i have Sachs oem ones, currently running on 18x8 +35 with 215/40r18 as my winter setup. I was thinking about getting some 18x9.5 et38 with 245/35r18 for a summer setup.
@@jakubkujawa695 It rubs on the sprung perch on the shock. I also have the Sach's, with the TRD lowering springs and FT86SF camber plates and it seems like I still need spacers. I'll come back here once I figure it out.
If you want aggressive without messing up a lease, I was running 17x9.5 +20 Stretched the stock 215 tires over it. ZERO RUBBING Dropped on PBM comp coilovers, add camber as needed up front, rear did not require camber adjustment. super legit setup for street/daily.
I have a Lancer. I'm from Australia so it's called the VRX (in the US I believe you guys call it the gts). Front wheel drive only. I'm after rpf1's with a functional fitment and some suggestions I get would be to run 18×8/8.5 with a +35/38 offset for a functional fitment. After confirmation or other ideas. The aftermarket car industry isn't huge in Australia, not like in America anyway. Very hard to get decent and decisive information. Hoping to get some more knowledgeable insight.
Question here.... Thinking about doing 17x8 +35 with 225 45 tires. Would there be any issues? I'm on stock suspensions. My street are so huge that I barely make it over the bump with stock height and a lip kit. Would the wheel poke out? Would the wheels stick in? Help?
That should fit fine with stock suspension and it shouldn't poke much if at all. You could bring in the top with a little negative camber if you're not running any if need be.
I accidentally bought a set of 255/45 18 tires for my 18 9.5 35 wheels a few years ago and they rubbed pretty bad on the front but do you think I could run them in the back if I dont lower my brz as much?

What do you recommend? I want some gramlights 57DR but have a leased brz. I was looking around and liked 18x9.5 +22 offset but idk if that’s gonna come with any issues or if It’s even the best combo . Can someone help ?

@@jahazielfuentes5103 Amazing car, I also have a TRD myself. I daily drive mine, unfortunately because of pandemic mine has only under 2000km on odometer. Hopefully I could drive it more often in the future. It is also fun to drive it in snow with proper winter tires 😉.
@@jakubkujawa695 oh for real! That’s nice! U right they are amazing cars, I love mine too. They are really fun to drive, I just got few months with mine, but yeah, they are great! A master piece for car enthusiasts. A pretty good platform for mods too, not a super fast car, but a really nice style and dynamic chasis, rear wheel drive, that’s what I really like about them
It is quite tough for me to chose which rims are my favourite. I really like Volk TE37 Saga, Gram lights 57CR, Work Cr kiwami’s. I also have to give a credit to my current rims Enkei sc24 Yamato. I got them as my winter setup, nevertheless I will probably run them on my summer tires (before I get proper summer setup) since they look so good with slight stretch (18x8 +35 215/40).
You may have to run a little bit more, I have a similar setup on my car running an 18x8.5 +35 with a 245/40 and I have around -2° of camber for a flush fitment in the rear, but I think it also depends on how low you are
Wouldn't it be nice if if bolt patterns, bore, etc would be standardized across every manufacturer. Would make wheel manufacturers easy and us consumers easy to shop for wheels!
Because of the stock spring perches on your shocks, I would go with 18x8 wheels so they don't impact the perches. going with 9 inch or wider may cause them to impact. if you want wide wheels you most likely want to go with coilovers.
In terms of wheel, it’s all up to your preference. The main thing you’re looking for, at least from what I’ve seen on FT86 forums, is something with a +38 offset for flush fitment. I’d personally go 17” to reduce weight from an 18” wheel, and maybe 8.5” to 9.5” wheel width. For tires, I’m biased towards Toyo (blame Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift for that being plastered on the back of my favorite car - Sean’s EVO IX) so I may go with their Proxes R1R or R888R, but it’s up to you. You got quite a few options, but I’m personally leaning towards Motegi Racing’s MR116 in black/red. Common choices for this platform are Enkei’s RPF1 (the satin bronze wheel featured in the video), Work’s CR Emotion Kiwami, Volk Racing’s TE37, some flavors by Option Lab, and maybe some options from BBS if you’re looking for fender flares or wide body. Good luck in your search! 😊
Really glad we got an updated version! You're doing great Kevin 👍
