Owners of Filipino Cuisine in Angier Retired: We Take a Look Back
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 кві 2015
- This iconic restaurant and market off Highway 55 in Angier, North Carolina, has permanently closed after the owners have retired. Join Bob Garner has he takes a look back on the diverse, delicious cuisine of the Philippines.
When I got married to a young Filipina 45 years ago I thought, Oh now what do I do... she doesn't' know how to cook American food. I agreed to eat Filipino cooking for a few months to see if I would like it. Still eating it 45 years later as we celebrated our anniversary last week. Much of it is so delicious that tasting it for the first time will catch you by surprise.
Rick Schwartz when you embrace their food and culture, you will never have a hard time dealing with it. Filipinos are really good in adjusting (all aspects) wherever they are!
I know how you feel. My Filipino husband didn't like my American style cooking so after he retired he did all the cooking for us.
@@nancyreyes5677 We have pretty much shared the cooking over the decades. She got her degree in Home Economics after we were married so she is formally trained in cooking. We've lived in many places and have tried to absorb a lot of cultures in our meals. Makes for some wonderfully varied dinners for us.
wow you old and was probably married to a filipina cuz you were a military deployed to philippimes
@Kotol Tokol We also have a Filipino style chicken curry but it we put peanut butter in it
My favorite Filipino food is kare, kare pinakbit ,etc especially letchon pig cebu ?
ni hao im filipino and lechon or letchon is both correct pig/baboy Cebu the best lechon
Visayas and Mindanao are has a very good lechon.
Salamat. Kailan ka Bisita ka sa pilipinas? (ask your filipino friend to translate) ☺
that old white dude makes me have hope in humanity, I just want to give him a hug
U heard after he ate crispy pata he ended up in ER lmao j/k
I hope that old white dude you are talking about is still alive after he consume that crispy pata.
I married a japanese navy we've been married for 14 years now and after a long mission he still requests for adobo when he comes home lol.
haha
I'm sure that's not the only request he wants after being so long away from you.
@@newbiechu7024 Dirty HAHAHAHA mind :p
a japanese navy ? wow thats alot of mouths feed
@@KaRampaNyo Haha are we thinking the same thing? :P
God gave us filipina women and Filipino food
Mahal ko Pilipinas
@@franklyanthony1786
You're a pain in the A.. you know that right?
@@franklyanthony1786 ...Ang bastos mo po nanay !!!
*Mahal kaba?*
Filipino men are good too, wanna try?
markbrave thank you.
I love when foreigners saying that our food here in the PH tastes good.
It because they don't season their food enough.
Stand up for the national anthem.
Darren Walsh why’d you marry pinay? Too ugly/old or low value to find someone in your own country. Had to travel to a poor country to find someone to marry you? Your wife doesn’t even love you! Lol. Really pathetic.
Eliezer Logronio of course, compared to what they ( Americans) git used to, anything tastes good
Equally, i hope you will not be offended if they don't like our food 😊. Cos some of us filipinos are very volcanic reactive 😂. My husband eat pancit canton, bistek tagalog ( im from manila) and menudo. The rest, he will just taste a little bit here and there to please the hosts. 😊 He cook me adobo when i feel want to eat it, sure UA-cam is one thumb away 😁
Knocking out another food in another country is a bit offensive so stop comparing cos you'll get any kind of replies.
America needs more Filipino restaurants and grocery stores..filipino food is underrated
unfortunately too many Filipino restos are not really aimed at the American crowd. The turo turo may be acceptable to Pinoys but Americans unfamiliar with the foods and styles generally are not as comfortable there.
jayr122001. The non Filipinos find the food greasy, too much fats. But they love sinigang, adobo chicken, nilaga and lumpia the little ones you dip in sweet and sour sauce.
Rick Schwartz. True
@@bb89670 yeah its greasy unhealthy its almost gross and im filipino
Mostly naman kasi pinoy food is not healthy...So if your in the healthy side your not gonna eat it.
Glad they're promoting Filipino food there! So happy for the Pinay owner and the man who enjoyed the dishes.
Love you and miss you guys Angela! Great video and missing the food now.
The host/field reporter's voice is so soothing. It reminded me of that classic 40's 60's documentary and ads narrator.
the crunch ._. It sounded so good.
It is. Filipinos are masters in making animal products crunchy but delicious. Crispy Pata, Lechon, Chicharon - all great.
yeah that crunch.. sounds of a few days left on earth if you always eat that meal 😂
2:52 I am crying while drooling, uh boy....thinking about home and listening to that crunch sound... :(
before i hate Kare-kare as a child. but when i grown up i used to love it. the best kare-kare i ever tasted is in Max's Restaurant where they use Beef Shank. i love it.
Maxs pretty good food though
Always crowded here in somewhere in pasig
I was the same, now i love it. The oxtail is my fav but my new one is lechon kawali kare kare from Goldilocks in National City
that's awesome! now i can refer this place to my friends who live in that area!
Food is similar all over the world. You just have to be open to trying new things.
Yep, Crispy Pata is basically German/Bavarian Schweinshaxe. Even a Filipino restaurant in Berlin states it as such.
Not really different techniques, flavor profiles, tastes, ingredients, and history...
I loved all these food!!! Filipina vlogger here
Ang sarap, you know. Very authentic, you know. Good job, you know.
Ohhhh that CRUNCH was perfect 🤤
his voice is so soothing
MOnMon298 awesome voice isn't it? he can be like Morgan Freeman narrating documentaries.
maharlika17 true. his voice sounds like home
I remember eating an entire Crispy Pata at 12 years old. The crispy skin, the glorious fat, the succulent meat...sweet Mother Mary the Blessed Virgin Mother of God. The fried rice was just an afterthought at that point. The restaurant is named Kamayan and is still around. Thank God for being born and raised Filipino. An incredible culinary heritage.
I love Philippine food
From Qatar
Qatarantaduhan
I love philipinos. They have great food.
Love from Samoa.
Sa moa arena

My wife makes all these things. But sometimes I just want a casserole to change it up lol. Still it is all super tasty.

ofw shits
Thank for appreciating pilipino food ser!🤗🤗🇵🇭also pinoy promote abroad...😍🙏
Wow! I'm going to share this good info to my cousin... Thank you!
We Filipino's they said are not very popular to other countries regarding foods, but on our own opinion we are extremely happy and prefer our own foods.Filipinos love eating especially when we serve our own foods. And if only other countries know we have so many ways of cooking differently that the world don't yet know like pakbet, dinendeng,sisig,pinapaetan,dinuguan,sinigang,kare-kare,paksiw na isda with ampalaya and okra ,adobong kangkong or sitaw ,burong isda or talangka and many many more aside from numerous foods that are served on our special occassions.
Good to know that this cuisine is finally making its way to North Carolina. I agree that the flavor profile is not too unfamiliar with this part of the country. Great presentation!
I’m so sad to find out that this place is closed. Got my taste buds ready for some Filipino food!
did they transfer to another location? or the owner is somewhere
High time for filipino cuisine to be acknowledged internationally..the bistek with bitter melon would also be a feast(for the ampalaya lovers).
Bistek with bittermelon sounds sooooo good!
Wow, good to see there r more Filipinos in NC, myself n an aunt visited Raleigh in 1986 did not see any Filipinos, there r more chinese.
Bob smile tells it all what a sweet man
I've been there nice people and good food.
i love filipino's food ^_^ especially Adobong baboy
Hahahahah ako din..
Even living in the Bay Area/California, where there are tons of Filipino grocery markets and restaurants, there are still a lot of Non-Filipinos who have never tried these dishes. I’m glad to see that Filipino cuisine is starting to go mainstream. Even though Jolliebee isn’t traditional Filipino food, I’m starting to see a lot of Mukbangers exploring their curiosity with these types of food.
Wow...naiggit ako sa iyong ulam. Ito ang pinakapaborito ko sa lahat.
Man I want to try that someday.
Wooow.. kahit saan talaga ang filipino napaka talented.....
who's watching this in 2020?😊
The reporter/food taster has a good take. Some are afraid of what the food was named not necessarily the taste.
It is cosmopolitan to be open to internatinal cuisine. When we went to Cambodia, we ate Cambodian food. Likewise, when we went to Spain, we ordered Spanish food, etc. Then one experiences not just the sight and sound of a country but most especially their yummy food.
thank you for sharing! on my way to that restaurant! haha!
Great review of Filipino cuisine.
That man should voiceover documentaries!
Wow... just wow... gutom na gutom na ako dahil dito (this video made me really hungry)
ooh man!! that crunch made my mouth drooling yummy!!!
Some people ask me if I'm filipino and they'll alway say that they like pansit lumpia and adobo...It's really nice that Philippine food is already popular in the US.
Gosh! Makes me hungry at 4am lol
Tomorrow I'll cook sisig ❤️
I love kare-kare!
Wow galing naman at ang laki. Can always get pinoy stuff.
Proud Filipino here... mabuhay
Good job Bob and goodluck and have fun eating.
Beef ox tail and tripes in peanut sauce sounds like a winner

lived one year in the philippines and that looks like real Filipino food. only thing i didnt see much in Phils is the pork skewers as shown in video. i saw more chicken skewers made with intestines, necks, butts, feet etc but the rest is all the food you will find there plus other stuff. Pork ,chicken, red onions, vinegar, soy sauce, garlic and white rice are the main ingredients of filipino food, i find
Filipino foods is the best.. Hmmm yummy
