I tend to use graphite and charcoal together, and yes it is very messy, but if you want to achieve realism you have to work hard for it. Thankyou for this video, I enjoyed it.
Your problem solving, patience and trust of your eyes interpretation of value, light and dark contrast and form are simply jaw-dropping! I’m practicing. Thank you for your videos and classes. I’m an returning to the easel after not have seriously drawn for years, so you are an inspiration. I’m a fan!
What a wonderful comment, Alvin! I love to hear someone started to draw or is coming back because was inspired by me. It makes me motivated to create more content. Have fun!
Thanks for the video really good but Please I have a question it is normal to apply graphite powder as base layer and Dem do the final process with charcoal powder is it gonna come out smooth and realistic
Thank you! Well, you should try it yourself, but I don't think charcoal is going to attach to the paper after applying graphite. However, the contrary definitely works, that is, applying charcoal first and graphite later
I am also confused whether start with Charcoal or Graphite. I also most use graphite. How can we get more black in the shading?. Which one is best for shading to get the result of more black and smooth?
If you are more used to draw with graphite, you could try some carbon pencils. My favorite is the Staedtler Mars Lumpograph Black. Charcoal can be tricky and requires a different approach ;)
Hello, sorry for taking so long to answer... I suggest you use a matte fixative spray after you finish your drawing. It will dial down the graphite shine and that's what I use ;)
So this is the face behind the great hyper realistic art pieces...you are a legend and a genius!!!
C'mon, I'm not a genius, but I'm glad you like my work. Thank you so much!
I have been drawing with graphite and charcoal separately. I will try to do what you're doing and mix them. Thank you for your ideas!
You're welcome! It's worth trying, good luck!

Yeah, charcoal can be messy, but it's manageable, no big deal.
Thanks for your comment!

Was that white charcoal pencils you used to light that other side?
No, I didn't use white charcoal pencils, you must be talking about the eraser pencil :)
I use both charcoal and graphite bc graphite just doesn't get dark like charcoal i use charcoal pencils so i can control where i put the charcoal
Puuuuuf , amazing. What size ist this paper?
Thank you, bro! It's A3 size (297 x 420 mm)
Can the texture be done with just strokes of electric eraser?
Hum, maybe, but why would you do it?
It's amazing, teacher mateus. You could show me the books on realistic drawing. To buy them, please...
Thank you, Juan! Unfortunatelly I don't know any books about realistic drawing, even though I love books in general...

What no. is the pencil? Is it 4B or 2HB? For skintone
2HB doens't exist. My graphite pencils range from HB to 4B and I use all of them for the skin :)
What brand of charchoal is the best
What is the tiny eraser and where can I get one?
It's the Tombow Mono Zero! It depends on where you live ;)
How do u overcome the shine
Graphite always has a shine to it, especially when you press harder. I just started using charcoal instead because it has no shine at all.

I used both both but still can't get the skill right 😕
Sorry about that... I will be recording new videos on skin texture drawing, maybe they could give you some new insights
@MacedoDrawings okay thanks 😊
