Rush actually has a song that is Dystopian in nature where, the society banned all forms of entertainment, including music, and there is no happiness in the society. A single person goes off the collective farm and finds an acoustic guitar and finds joy in it and brings it to the elders, but they are none too happy that he found it. The song is called 2112 IV: Presentation (part of the multi part song)

They have a whole side of an album dedicated to a story about a world with no music. If you want to try it, as a reaction or just to hear, it is RUSH 2112 - Side One; all seven parts. There's a good animated video on the tube depicting the story of Side One.

  • @tkremarkTK

So, you nailed it, a very deep song. Rush almost lost their music contract from the record label because they didn't understand their music, so they said, "we are still going to make what we want to make and if we lose our record deal so be it." The next album was a success, after that they could get anything published and had all control on what they put out. These Lyrics in The Spirit of Radio sums it up.
'Emotional feedback on a timeless wavelength
Bearing a gift beyond price, almost free
All this machinery making modern music
    Can still be open-hearted
Not so coldly charted, it's really just a question of your honesty
    Yeah, your honesty
One likes to believe in the freedom of music
But glittering prizes and endless compromises
Shatter the illusion of integrity, yeah

The car that Neil is driving in the first verse is a Red Barchetta, referring to a track on their subsequent album Moving Pictures, for which I highly recommend the Exit Stage Left performance. Cheers from Toronto!

And I really like your comments at the end. You know what I bet you would have a blast reacting to from the mid-1970s? Ted Nugent, from the same album Cat Scratch Fever, which I remember you reacted the title song, is Wang Dang Sweet Poontang. It's a total banger and I just know you would love it. It's a fan favorite.

4:06 the dj in this shot was the dj that introduced Rush to the United States. She was looking for a bathroom song: a song that was long enough to start, run to the bathroom and get back in time to start the next song. She had Rush’s debut album and dropped the needle on their legendary song “ Working Man” and the rest is history.

Permanent Waves, which this song is off of was how Rush chose to throttle it back after the grind of making Hemispheres that really stretched their abilities as musicians and to me makes it their best album. It's Rush ++

My first concert was Rush 1981 in Dallas. 4 teenage girls. We all wore white tube tops & thought we were cute. lol. My friend's brother stayed in line all night to get tickets & he got us 2nd row right in front of Alex. I'm sure he remembers us- lol! Price of ticket...$10. Pat Travers was sitting front row in front of us, and this guy brought a grocery sack of weed to him & walks off. They've been my favorite band since I was like 12 years old in 1979.

Life without any music would be awful, but it's also sad that we constantly pump electronic noises into our brains and ears. We've lost touch with the wonderful sounds of nature, and the sound of silence which is good for brain cell regeneration.
