Rocinante was Don Quixote’s horse. That’s where both Neil and The Expanse takes the name from. He was a tired old work horse that Quixote saw as his trusty warhorse. Niel’s use of the name is clever and makes us wonder if this journey into a black hole is a fool’s errand. Have to wait until part 2 to find out!
Thanks letting me know! Looking forward to part 2.
I've always wondered if the final stanza is Neil Peart's settling of the question of whether or not the black hole is a portal or a "final" destination for the traveler. Regardless, the musical descent past the Event Horizon into the violent, swirling chaos of the vortex of gravity, followed by the echoing guitar depicting the deceptive, empty "peace" of space after the Rocinante is devoured by the black hole, is one of the most brilliant and evocative bits of songwriting EVER! Masterpiece!
No one knows what happens if u actually entered a black hole but u have to remember this was the first black hole ever discovered by telescope. NEIL with his giant brain could compose a song and describe what it would be like to travel through a black hole, is music greatness. This is one reason RUSH IS ABSOLUTELY THE GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME. They make songs that we are going through today. Like fascism, FREE WILL, 2112 AND OTHERS. SO DON'T VOTE FOR THE "R" AND TRUMP you will regret it if u do the past has shown. PEASE
i thought Rocinante was a donkey
@@markstromberg1148 we just have to go to Hemispheres
Neil wrote Cygnus XI about a year after it was officially confirmed as being the first black hole discovered. Book II Hemispheres is about twice as long and complicated as this one and is perhaps the most technically difficult piece of music they ever performed, it's like 2112 on steroids. 😊
Incredible piece of art. Looking forward to part 2.
@@SaeedReacts. Make sure you choose the comic book version with the lyrics so you can follow the story better. 😊
I'm kinda addicted to watching people discover RUSH....so happy you covered this one! Their body of work is massive, so you have a lot to look forward to!
I heard about their vast catalogue 😀. Definitely exploring more. Enjoying this journey. Thanks for joining me !
I have not looked at it like that, addiction... I can live with that!
I love watching people who grew up on Hip-Hop listen to Tom Sawyer for the 1st time. "Ho'don ho'don hold on! When was this recorded?"
Saw this tour in Toronto back in 1977 and what a great show... RIP Neil...
RUSH!!!! Pure genius.
This song is from the album "A farewell to kings" released in 1977. Us old time Rush fans had to wait more than a year for Hemispheres to be released before we got to hear Cygnus X-1 book 2. It was a very long wait but worth it. Book 2 is one of my favorite Rush songs. By the way excellent reaction!!! Thanks.
Excited for Book 2. Thanks for watching.
And spend the next year debating how the story ends
This was my first Rush concert back in 77. Prior to that, I had seen Kiss, Aerosmith and Nugent. After this concert, I was spoiled. No one plays like Rush in concert. I was about third row in a quarter arena in SD. Rush laid out the white shag carpet and proceeded to blow everyone away! I did see them another 10 times. To this date, never saw a concert so memorable (except the other Rush concerts of course). Part two is probably the most technical thing Rush ever did. To see it live in front of you is just unbelievable. They play exactly in concert as the studio album, except little tasteful surprises here and there. Nice reaction too Saeed, keep it up please!
Looking forward to part 2. What a journey! Thanks for watching.
Yeah, they did it as much justice as they could with the circumstances of that last tour. Lyrics were dropped entirely, they shortened not only the entire piece, to allow for the drum solo, but a lot of what they played was truncated too, with fewer repetitive sequences instrumentally then the original version. I was just happy to be there and experience it regardless of how they had to pull it off.🤘🖖✌️🎸🥁🎤🎹🥇🇨🇦🎼
Favorite Rush song!! The music is very thematic and perfectly captures the imaginary experience of getting sucked into a black hole. The listener can almost feel the protagonist lose control of his ship when the song kicks in after that small breakdown section. What happens to our hero in the black hole? Cygnus X-1 Book II Hemispheres next!!!
Rush is from Canada, so they have to rock twice as hard... just to stay warm.
This is one of my favorite songs in their catalog. Part 2 is incredible.🔥🤘🏻
Looking forward to it.
For every new RUSH fan, this is Mandatory! I actually SAW this concert, this tour! 🤯
Good job, young man! 🚀
Incredible song! Thanks for watching.
Fabulous reaction to a fabulous song Saeed. Rush take you on journey every time. This one to a black hole only 6,200 light years from earth. And it feels so real.
Incredible journey. Looking forward to continue. Thanks for watching.
This song is a true testament to how good (& tight )Rush was - they're timing on this song especially was impeccable live or studio version
Love that super proggy beginning. Goes 6/8, 7/8, 6/8 then 8/8 and makes it sound so perfect and normal!
Just unique music, love it and your work too!😊
Amazing music and writing!
"Holy shit!" The perfect response.
Incredible!
I absolutely LOVE this song, I listen to it often. All 3 guys are just asking. Geddys voice at the end though! Woooo! 😀
Awesome song!
Luv your reactions.
Enjoy the Rush Journey.
Thanks so much!
Hemispheres and A Farewell to Kings might as well of been a Double Album. You have opened a Pandora's Box
Excellent reaction!! Looking forward to Book 2!! Be well and Gosh bless… from Texas!!
Excited to hear that one. Thanks for watching. Greetings from Belgium.
Rocinante was Don Quixote's horse before anything else. Crazy song and Book II is sick. Keep Rushing...
I have to read that book. Had a copy forever 😅. Looking forward to Book ll.
@@SaeedReacts. And known or little known fact. Don Quixote is one of the most read books in the world.
Thanks for reacting to this. I hadn’t listened to A Farewell to Kings in about 30 years. I had favorites and other bands that I focused on and then I had kids and I forgot how great it really is!!! Oh and the ship the Rosinante is also featured on Caress of Steel! 😊
So incredible, no matter how many times I listen to it. Nothing like it! I knew you'd love it! Geddy hits his highest note just after the 14 minute mark. You know what to do next 😊
Amazing piece of art. Excited for book 2.
Having seen the live version, I am glad you can appreciate Geddy's singing on the original studio recording.
Incredible vocalist.
You should have seen the video they projected on a screen behind them during the show. A trip through a black hole.
Must add, love your holly sh@t réaction at the end!
What a journey!
This song takes you on an amazing journey! Geddy hits the stratosphere with some of those notes. Hitting those notes in your 20's pretty easy but in your 60's not so much.
You really feel the ship being pulled into the black hole!
Three geniuses in one band!
Onto part 2.
Cheers and have a good one.
What a journey and amazing vocals. Looking forward to part 2. Thanks for watching.
No doubt. Last episodes of this piece are early thrash metal sounds and vocals.
Geddy's Ric tone is a religious experience
I was listening to this at the same time that Master of Puppets, and And Justice For All were new and didn't yet have the term "progressive" to describe how similar the two styles were in their crisp, in your face delivery.
Hey Saeed, I remember going to a friends house, in my late teens, hearing this album on a old fleetwood home cabnit record player,Man we used to crank the volume for this album!! Glad you enjoyed RUSH!!
Thanks for sharing that story! Great memories!
"Holy Shit" best response ever!
Masterpiece!
Rocinante is Don Quixote's horse, but also his double; like Don Quixote, he is awkward, past his prime, and engaged in a task beyond his capacities.
Neil was a prolific reader, so I'm guessing he read about the Rocinante before writing the lyrics for Cygnus.
Heavy song. Rush could definitely crank it up.
Incredible song!
Those lonely chords at the end and a few of the bass licks will make a reappearance near the middle of Book Two. Make sure you listen for it.
Haunting isn’t it? That C# is a beautiful chord
Thanks for the advice! Will keep it in mind.
Great channel. I like your style. Hemispheres side one "Cygnus X-1 book II" next baby, yeah!
Thank you so much! Excited for part 2.
do all of the rush discography. Neil pearts lyrics are the best in the history of progressive rock and rock music as a whole
Definitely will check out more.
This one is quite a roller coaster for sure! Excellent choice my friend.
Wow! What a ride!
Rocinante was the name of don quixote's horse .thats where they got the name.
Ooh! I have a special edition of that book and havent read it 😅 Must get to it. Thanks for letting me know.
😳 Wait 🤗 Im not ready! 😁 Need snacks! 🍿🥤 okay, ready! 🚀 Onboard the Rocinate & ready to take off! 🖖🏿🥰🐰
What a journey!
Thanks for reacting to this. I hadn’t listened to A Farewell to Kings in about 30 years. I had favorites and other bands that I focused on and then I had kids and I forgot how great it really is!!! Oh and the ship the Rosinante is also featured on Caress of Steel! 😊 or was it Hemispheres??!! I can’t believe I don’t remember 😞😔 Regardless, RUSH is the greatest band to ever grace the stage 😍🥰☺️😆😉
Looking forward to part 2. Again incredible music and storytelling, haunting vocals. Love it.
Been tuning out today and I really think you’d enjoy Hold Your Fire 🔥 another great RUSH album. Lock and Key as well as Second Nature are my favorites on this album. While I’m here, I want to tell you about another great Canadian trio. Triumph isn’t as prolific but they’re still quite powerful. I suggest the live album; Stages. Fight the Good Fight, Never Surrender and Hold On are some of my favorites. I think they would’ve been more popular if they’d had better studio production 🤷♀️ Rick Emmett is definitely one of the greatest guitarists ever in my opinion. Midsummer Daydream is a beautiful instrumental that I’m sure you’ll enjoy listening to!!! I hope you check them out! Enjoy 😉
I was very lucky I saw Rush in 79 for Hemispheres Tour played book 1 & book 2 in its entirety never done again live. It's just too hard even for RUSh!
Wow! Amazing you saw this live.
Did you here the faint heart beat at the very end of the song. Genius!
Ooooh! 🤯🤯🤯
I love that this song was released in 1977 (3 years after Hawking and Kip Thorne made their bet), and 13 years before Cygnus X-1 was confirmed as a black hole. Looking forward to Book II, which I've always preferred (I like the Greek myths). Love you talking about how high his voice has gone (at 12:15) ... not to the top, yet 😉
Incredible writing and vocals. Looking forward to Book 2. Thanks for watching.
Back in the day, we had to wait almost a year to find out what happened. Though at the time, I don't think they hinted at a part 2. I saw the Farewell to Kings Tour in St. Louis - good times! BTW, the entire Farewell to Kings album is 🔥 Great job as always, Saeed 💕
in the lyrics on the sleeve of the record it says "to be continued"at the end.
That is a long wait. Looking forward to part 2. Have a wonderful day.
Yes I wondered if the " Rocinante " came from this as this came out in 1977 ?
I just learned it came from Don Quixote.
@@SaeedReacts. thank you for the info
@@SaeedReacts. Got this 8 track for Christmas 1977
Next book two and get ready for a ride
You really must listen to the second half which is “Book 2”.
This was the last song on the album “A Farewell To Kings” and we had to wait until the next album “Hemispheres” to get the second half. Book 2 is the first song on the next album………Hemispheres.
You can’t go wrong with RUSH.
Definitely will check that one out.
Great reaction
Thank you!
Only two people can make you feel like your are traveling though a black hole... Neil Peart, and John Barry's ost of the same title
Gotta share the discovery of this track myself with you. My friend and I were starting to discover Rush in the early to mid eighties and worked our way backwards into their catalogue. One day we listened to this one and were quite high on the weed of the day, and laughed our asses off re-listening to that intro and surmised that Geddy was in a Spinal Tap situation where he was llost and trying to get to the stage, so his signal was weak at first and was getting louder as he was running to the stage.😂crazy kids right? True story tho 👌🍻👍
Thanks so much for sharing this story. I definitely have a fair share of mine that i treasure. Great memories! Appreciate you!
😂 Keep in mind 😒 we had no idea there would be a Part 2. But we ALL wondered 😲 "wtf happened to the Rocinate?!?"
🤔 Same with 2112 (twenty-one twelve) 😳🤯 "wtf you mean 'My lifes blood spills over! Did dude die?!? Did he get to see the Elder Race come back and assume control? 🥺 He didn't see things got better?" 🤣 I was a basket case for 2 days. Finally got around to Side 2 and 🏎️🚓🚓 'Red Barchetta' made me feel better .... #TrueStory 🥰🐰
its on the lyrics inside the farewell to kings album at the end of the song it reads "to be Continued".
Now thats a cliffhanger 😅. WE HAVE QUESTIONS!!! 😭 Glad there was a follow up.
crushed into infinite density
@@SaeedReacts. we'd love for you to do Hemispheres. all of side one first
Just you wait....Cygnus-x1 (book 2) is twice as long and even more epic. All of side two from their next album Hemispheres (of which I own an original release copy of both Hemispheres and A Farewell to kings on vinyl) and both sound just as great now , as they did the day they were pressed 40+ years ago.
Looking forward to the next part. They were ahead of their time (by a lot)
you know the song is going to be epic especially when there are no lyrics in the first 5 or 6 minutes.
Bedankt om deze te delen!
Now you have to wait an entire year to hear the rest of the story like we had to, lol
Haha, i heard about that. Dont know if i will be able to restrain myself 😅
Now you have to go to the first side of the next album.....
Now move right into Book II!
Will check it out this week
Now you have to do book 2 off of hemispheres to complete the story.
Will check it out.
I've always interpreted BOOK 2 as more of a prequal to BOOK 1. To me, BOOK 2 tells us WHY our protagonist had to travel to the Cygnus X1. ☮
Interesting!
Anyone else name their boat the Rocinante or just me?
Welp. Now you've done it. Now you have to do Cygnus X-1 Book II, Hemispheres.
Will check it out.
I will be curious about the connection if any to the books you are referring to. I look forward to your research. 😊
Apparently the name vame from Don Quixote's horse. So it is from a book, but a different one. The books i referred to are The Expanse books. There is a spaceship called the Rocinante in it.
I love how weird this track is. they're at their best when they push it. even if they are "strongly influenced" by Crimson (larks tongues pt 2). nice reax... thanks!
So,so,beautiful.. .thanks, Todd from Ohio...new subscriber ...try Between the wheels, nice track...
Thanks for subscribing and the recommendation. Will add it to my list. Greetings from Belgium.
Hemispheres Cygnus x1 book two is even better.
Looking forward to it.
Watching you geek out to rush makes me smile. Listening to them as a kid and having the pop music lovers ( not that i have issues with that style of music ) look at you like your a leper for wearing a rush t-shirt was so frustrating. Most people i know only listened to the moving pictures album . As great as it is , its just 1 chapter in the rush universe. Glad your not sticking to the most well known
This is a fun journey! I had no idea music like this was even out there. Its many passions coming together.
Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres incoming?
Defintely checking that one out this week.
By-Tor and the Snow Dog....listen to By-Tor and the Snow Dog
Did you hear the Heartbeat at the end of the song??
Oooh 🤯🤯🤯
If you like hard sci-fi, have you read anything by Alistair Reynolds? The Revelation Space books were great.
That series has been on my TBR for forever. Need to move it up. I am reading the Commonwealth saga now by Peter F. Hamilton.
He's one of my most favorite Sci-Fi authors of recent years. Very imaginative writer.
@@SaeedReacts. I loved the Commonwealth as well! I think was going to suggest that too, but couldn’t remember the series name while I was at work. Awesome books!
Maybe check out NEIL PEART Buddy Rich HONOR????? Surprises awaits!! :) ♥AND, or... Victor Wooten bass music????????? :) “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” ~ Romans 15:13
