I hear this song, & I go right back to 1/7/2020, when we lost Mr. Pert; my unofficial drum teacher (who never knew he was)---many broken heads on the Gretch kit, dent's on the zildjians, and pissed off neighbors while hopelessly trying to even come close to him...RIP Professor Peart
Been playing guitar since the 1980's. However, drums were always my favorite instrument, largely thanks to the greats that played the instrument (obviously Peart being one of them). The day the Professor died, I ordered an electronic kit. His passing, unfortunate as it was, motivated me to pick up my favorite instrument at the tender age of 58. Thank you, Mr. Peart, for the wonderful music and bringing more joy into my life through my new instrument.
Probably because he blends into what is going on so well. He has no ego or need to stand out. He fills in the role of guitar. He does it with 10x more notes than any other guitarist. But every single solo he gets, long or short, he proves how good he is. Complicated rhythms or fingerings. Fast or slow, powerful and badass or haunting and soleful. His dynamics are unmatched. Most guitarists don't even use dynamics. It's all just one volume. Alex is every bit as good as Neil or Geddy. He just blends so well it doesn't stand out. He plays pedals and sings as well. He's multitasking with the other two. Plus he's the onstage goofball of the group. He plays like he's just chilling at home while he's literally melting a guitar. Always completely relaxed and at ease. He'll even chat with Geddy and they'll laugh in the middle of utter shreds. His talent is amazing.
Neil was an avid car collector. His love for cars & motorcycles, along with music, was part of who he was, and a "Red Barchetta" might have been one he dreamed about owning. In the animated version of "The Spirit of Radio", Neil was even shown driving one. As always, RIP to "The Professor".
Neil didn't have a Red Barchetta - the car is a 1950's Ferrari 166 MM and as a collector car was even out of Neil's reach to aquire one. He did have an amazing collection of cars, but he had confirmed in more than one interview that he didn't own a Ferrari. The car in the story that inspired this song was a green MG - which Neil had owned one at one point also.
@@sergiosbloch7408 Yes, my mis-peaking. I knew he had a small "Ferrari-like" car, and thought it was red, but I was incorrect. He did have a nice collection, which most people would love to have. I have corrected my post.
This whole concert was incredible, Rush at the peak of their powers. 😊 Neil came up with the lyrics after reading a story in Road&Track called A Nice Morning Drive, written by Richard Foster about a future where cars like this are banned. Year's later Foster who was a fan of the band noticed that Neil had credited him in the liner notes as the inspiration to the song, he reached out to him by E-mail and they began a correspondence. While talking they discovered they had a shared interest in motorcycles and in fact rode the same model 1100GS BMW which ultimately ended up with Neil inviting Richard on a ride through the Appalachians to Rush's next concert at the time, in Philadelphia, as a guest of the band. 😊
This is one of my favorite Rush songs. I can just feel myself in a speeding car. Don’t you just love the ‘high-tech’ graphics on the screen behind them? Ah, the ‘80s.
As a six string player who learned this song with our band back in the 90's, there are SO MANY "only did that one time in the song" parts in this song that it took a month of practices for me and the drummer to get it down. Wore out a cassette tape too!
My favourite Rush song of all time. I once got a speeding ticket while listening to this song....60 km per hour over the 100 km per hour limit (like getting 40 mph over a 60 mph limit). Luckily the cop knocked it down to 20 km per hour over lol.
I warned my 18y/o son ( Who loves Rush) when he recently got his first car. Don't crank Red Barchetta while driving ( yet), You'll get a speeding ticket for sure! lol.
YES!! A RUSH DAY!! THE TREES, NATURAL SCIENCE and THE CAMERA EYE 👁️!! Reminder, gotta have lyrics! Geddy sporting the RICKENBACKER Bass! Very NICE!! Thanks Neighbor!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
“It’s nice to keep good charts(music) and know all those notes but really it’s the “FEEL” of the song that really brings out the Emotions and the reactions that people have and crave that is the most important in Making Music!” - Geddy Lee
Ok. I am complete Rush fan. That being said these 3 guys are amazing. This caliber of talent they have has yet to matched. Lyrics, magical musical artistry cannot be bested. My daughters are big Swifty fans. I have frequent arguments with them about how she couldn't be a roadie for these guys.
In my opinion this is one of their best songs. Not only is it a story song... it is a scifi song that tells a story that could easily be a short film. It follows poetic meter but is prose, EXTREMELY difficult to do in song form. Not only is the story very thematic but the overall structure of the song matches it. The opening builds slowly up as his adrenaline rises. Hopping the train, jumping off outside the border. Getting in the illegal car and racing off. The music kicks in with Alex providing the revving engine on the guitar. And now the music is a high speed, dense, fill on adrenaline fueled assault on the senses. The lyrics are fun. The thrill, the artistry of a beautiful car. The police arrive and he gets away. And as the music calms, it still has echoes of the music from the chase... reliving the day's adventure as he sits and drinks with his uncle. This song is a masterclass in structure and storytelling bith with words and the music and RUSH are utter masters of this. Glad you've gotten in to Geddy's voice. People either love it or they hate Rush because of it lol. But it somehow fits so perfectly. It would be as good if his voice were more typical. As he got older he couldn't do the higher registers any more so he would drop down more. Works just as well. He saved a high note for very special moments.
For those rare spirits here who ever drove a manual shift car--and you know who you are--this song is for you. Along the I-26 corridor going up and down the mountainside on the way to the Appalachians, you know damn well the value of a stick shift car. Lol.
I don’t know where to start. Your enthusiasm for Rush and just in general is contagious. Mr Peart was along with Buddy Rich, a teacher, friend and hero. I still get choked up when I hear one of their awesome lyrics and especially with these reaction videos. I absolutely love to see you guys discover the genius that is Rush and be as blown away as what us long time fans still are. Just absolute gods all 3 are. I am also a lover of redheads (started at around 7 years old with Ginger on Gillian’s Island). So it is an amazing to watch a beautiful ginger loving my guys and discovering them. You make me cry with your enthusiasm for our favorite band. YOU GET IT!!!!!♥️♥️♥️
I remember this concert so well. Alex in his red jacket with a white shirt and blue jeans was just so iconic, I will always remember him like that. So cool to see Geddy playing, he really wears a lot of hats with bass, keyboards and vocals. And of course The Professor. Neil had the massive drum kit, I had never seen anything like that and it blew me away.
A band of the ages, to be sure. Working through their albums is a musical adventure. Their style evolved over time, each enjoying a special uniqueness. Kudos to StickHits for their work on the 1981 live show clips. Others may have mentioned - be sure to check out Xanadu from that 1981 concert. Best live version... EVER.
I am witnessing the birth of another Rush fan. Cheers to you and welcome to the Rush army. Been a fan since I was 12. I am 59 years old. Virtuosos these guys are. Happy to share the planet with the best band ever.
That ending after he says "at the fireside", I could listen to that all day. It's just a beautiful piece of music that showcases three interactive musical geniuses. Rush has been my favorite band since 1981 when they came out with this album and video. I even played this video in my high school History class of all things. I had an advanced English teacher who voiced his appreciation of Neil Peart's lyrics. Much of Peart's writings are inspired by literary works. My dad is a musician and when I showed him some of the songs, he said "they're slightly advanced." One thing is for sure, this music is not improvised. They talked about it long before they started hashing out their parts. The "Dinner with Rush" video shows how they start the concept.
I love LOVE love how happy and excited you get hearing something new from Rush. I've loved them since I was a teen in the 80s. They still move me. And you're right about their chemistry. These 3 men were brothers.

I remember this tour... Moving Pictures Tour, 1981. My 2nd time seeing Rush. And every time I saw Rush (14 times between 1978 to 2015) I had the same visceral, emotional feeling. The feeling of needing to cry at the mastery happening in front of me, but it being stuck in my throat because I didn't want to miss anything. Rush isn't the only band I have seen more than twice. But they're the only band I saw 14 times. And the 'No, no, please don't be done!' feeling happens every time even after the band's standard 3 hour performance. Every...damn...time! ❤️
I remember seeing them in St.Catharines at the Montebello Inn . My older brother was a bouncer/doorman. It was around 1975/76 I was about 13/14 at the time. I watched from behind the stage. My brother snuck me in and told to shut up and don't move. Was awesome. Neil was from St.Catharines went to Lakeport High School. The song Lakeside park is a beach in St.Catharines.
I remember when this album came out. Instantly knew it was going to massively increase the brilliance of their spot in the limelight (no pun intended)!!
This song made me go out and buy a bass. I had the music to this song in one of my guitar magazines and was learning it on guitar. The magazine included the bass part as well, and when I read along with what Geddy was doing, I knew I had to learn to play it. Years later, I now know more Rush songs on bass than guitar - please don’t tell Alex, lol!
Rolling Stone did a critique of Moving Pictures, they said Geddy sounded like a cross between Robert Plant and Donald duck. Lame comment from a lame magazine. I was hooked from the first listen. This is the tour I was introduced to the band. Emerging in high school, they carried me through. I was/ still am a misfit, and a dreamer. Thank you for letting relive the discovery. You're feeling the RUSH!!!!!
@redheadedneighbor so glad you love Rush and get them now! Humm Geddys voice did change a bit but they still had produced amazing music for 40+ yrs! Are you in TX .. I love your Southern accent sweet! ❤️ Amazing job on all your reactions and God bless you Angel! FYI your so Red hot! 🤣
Awesome reaction & already so many great comments so I would like to give a shout out to the sound & recording engineers, camera work , lighting etc to be able to hear see & these great videos & concerts - cheers !
Brilliant! The more I'm hearing the more I'm annoyed for not exploring them more back when I picked up the live album A Show of Hands in the early nineties! I just looked it up and I think the three I remember really liking best were Time Stand Still, Red Sector A and Closer to the Heart. You've done the first, I think you'll love the other two. If you type it in with A Show of Hands they come up with live videos.
For an epic instrumental, "La Villa Strangiato" from the live album EXIT... STAGE LEFT (1981) will leave you stunned. And what a joy it is to watch new fans of Rush being made. Thanks for making me feel young again, even for only a little while.
I told a close friend that if I'm dying soon because of an illness, to play this song before i go..... I know it's sounds deep.... I remember hearing this song when I was 9 yrs old and said I can not wait to drive so I can play this song.....
What Canadian guy ever made good fashion choices? Ayy, you hosehead! Hahaha! Go check out 'Take off to the great white north'! Geddy was the guest singer (ten bucks is ten bucks, ayy) on that very popular at the time song from long ago.
Hi 'Red', just came across your channel; loving your reactions; I'm a HUGE RUSH FAN. This version of Red Barchetta is my absolute favorite; recording and performance. I say that, as you kinda mention, Neil on his drums later on in the song. A bit of trivia here: by this time of the show, this is the 12th song in the setlist. The previous four songs in reverse order: The Spirit of Radio, Xanadu, The Trees and YYZ w/ his drum solo = Neil's endurance is off the charts; he's sweating & exhausted, and plays on. He still has Closer to the Heart, Tom Sawyer, Vital Signs, Natural Science, a medley including By Tor & the Snow Dog, and the encore of La Villa Strangiatto. THANKS AGAIN for your channel, and your reactions. I wish we were neighbors.
Great reactions! Been hooked on Rush since 1978, .. my favorite band and music. Saw them in 79,82, and 2001. They loved the connection with the audience. Enjoy!😃🎵👍
It’s delightful to watch your delight with the band. One thing RUSH fans really like are other RUSH fans! We need all the RUSH babes we can get! 😆 For us Old Schoolers who’ve been with the band from the beginning, it’s especially rewarding. It’s one of funnest groups people to be a part of, Especially on concert night! It’s was a Scene! The vibe and buzz through the crowd even when we were standing in line before the show was different from other concerts. Most of the people had seen them before and knew what was going to happen!
I was 8 at the time, also from St. Kitts, but I first heard of them when I was 12, never looked back brother!
Ty Sir, 1 of my favourite songs but never knew where it was !
Great reaction Red... again. Rush, never in a rush to end a song 😊
I remember when this album came out. Instantly knew it was going to massively increase the brilliance of their spot in the limelight (no pun intended)!!
My favorite tune from the Moving Pictures album. Great stuff. Wonder reaction my friend.
Still drinking out of a jar 🫙 🫙 ❤😂
Never too much Rush! Love your reactions!
I've been a Rush fan for over 44 years. Welcome aboard!!!
Red meet Red! 😂 ❤
lol!
On Red Barchetta, I loved how you stopped it to hear the Professor kill those drums again, right where I would. GREAT!
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Rush week? Rush month? Absolutely!🙃😎
Love the reactions, The Pass of the Presto album….
I was a HS senior when this came out...a very significant song for me...wonderful reaction, thank you! Good journey :) Peace!
Data and Spot!
For an epic instrumental, "La Villa Strangiato" from the live album EXIT... STAGE LEFT (1981) will leave you stunned. And what a joy it is to watch new fans of Rush being made.
Thanks for making me feel young again, even for only a little while.
The greatest instrumental in history....
I love ppl watching Rush! I am Canadian so I went to see them a few times. Best musicians ever 🤜🏽❤️
J'aime tous les songs.
I told a close friend that if I'm dying soon because of an illness, to play this song before i go..... I know it's sounds deep.... I remember hearing this song when I was 9 yrs old and said I can not wait to drive so I can play this song.....
So good! Thanks!
Best percussionist, best lyricist, best bassist, best guitarist, *worst* fashion choices...ever, Rush. 😁
This might be the best song on the best record ever recorded…
Hard to find a band so authentic and sincere.
Also no dummies in a RUSH crowd. Great reaction! 😁👍
I love your reactions to Rush!
Thank you!
Rush Day feels like a frat house but that could be fun just saying. Red it is your channel you have 23.3K fans you do what you want to it is working really well LOL💯💯💯💯💯💯#reaction #rush #rushreaction #geddylee #alexlifeson #nealpeart #redheadedneighbor #bestreactir #redsarmy #beautifulcountrygirl

One of the best songs EVER!!!!!!!!!!!
Your amazing reaction to this classic song brought joy to this old man's heart. Thank you so much for that! On top of that, I loved that t-shirt with Data and Spot! Rock on, young lady. I look forward to joining you on your journey with the greatest band of all-time, RUSH!!!
💪🏻💕
The three virtuosos on top of their game !
This is their most popular album. Moving pictures.🎉
Xanadu, from the same concert. It will take you on a JOURNEY! And this one really shows everything you speak of, the passion and camaraderie. And the musicianship is at a peak. You won’t be disappointed. I’ve really enjoyed your Rush awakening.
