I have one. It’s a 2000 with an Allison 5 speed. I drive it every day. I absolutely love it. The only two draw backs are that top speed is 59mph and the ride is so rough. I got passed by a school bus on interstate!!! Anyway, great video. Hope that you enjoy your truck as much as I enjoy mine!!!
I've been checking out your channel for a while now, (I got hooked right away on the free plane video lol). I can relate to all the things you do because I do them as well, I'm always out rescuing something that's been sitting for years but I've never really documented any of them, And as a matter of fact I just scored a 1988 GMC6000 EX U-Haul, 26' cab and chassis lo-pro, all original and it has a little bonus, it's equipped with the factory EZ-load option, the rear is airbagged, pull a knob on the dash and it's lowers the rear substantially for easy loading/unloading, it has an engine/ belt driven compressor with all airlines intact, it's been sitting for 17yrs, (I WILL MAKE IT RUN AGAIN!) I'm thinking about making a lowrider stubby myself, I have everything I need to bag the front as well.....you've inspired me to document this whole thing, thanks!
Stubby is so cool! I want to see it go down the track to see what 1/4 mile times you can get. Maybe even a tug-of-war with some of the Ford , Chevy and Dodge guys! Woot!
I drove these back when they were new for a towing service. We had non low profile flatbeds with the T444E & Allison. We also had a monster of a wrecker with a DT466E and a 6 speed manual. I loved these trucks.
I have worked on several of these trucks, one issue I ran into is the factory ecu for the 444e will only allow for 2400 rpm, the truck I was working on had a 7 speed manual, I modified a harness From a 1999 f250 6 speed 7.3 and used the ford idm and pcu. Then I was able to purchase a tuner for the ford truck . and the same engine would turn 3,800 rpm. The ford is also is a split shot on the injectors, I used a set of 100hp injectors
@@HJZ75driver *plenum misspelled, sorry. A set of intake pieces, they regulate airflow into the engine/intake valves. The size of the hole in the plenum plays a big part in performance of the engine and how much air it can move in. More air allows more fuel = more power.
@ in the second video, he said he tried to put a Ford Powerstroke ECU and harness in and had a ton of issues. That is not going to match up with a service manual from International or Ford. You’d have to bounce between the two and get it all matched up. He ended up putting the Navistar ECU back in and a brand new harness.
Alison Transmissions have been around for a long time. They used to be owned by GM, but most commercial vehicles with automatic trans have an Alison. Until a few years ago you could buy an F650 Ford with a Cummins engine and an Alison trans. The smaller Ford trucks had powerstrokes. Gm, Ford, International, Kenworth etc...all of the 26K GVWR and larger have the option of engine and trans combinations. Some of the Internationals probably had Detriot Diesels. lol
You are indeed correct. There’s some internationals with Detroit Series 50 engines. The smaller brother of the 60 Series Detroit in Big Semi’s. They are 4 cylinder with BIG POWER and torque for being a 4 cylinder. Basically a big 60 Series Detroit with two cylinders chopped off. And they’re extremely reliable. Really realllyyyy good engines.
Man! That is on BAD kid right there, dude! A low Rider, too!? It can't get any better than this ... sweet, man, sweet .... Keep bringing the videos. I like it.
Not surprised to see this Ford and International were partners in truck manufacturing and used the same platform I think until like 2014. Early f-650 and 750’s had 7.3s as well. I’m sure it’s the same chassis in this truck and not hard to put in.
Nice truck It was never a secret that the 7.3 power stroke was an international Every power stoke from 1994 to 2010 is a Navistar international engine That’s right even the 6.0 and 6.4
Need to junk the rubberband trans (545)and throw a 643 trans with a lockup converter. differant flexplate but shifter and kick down solenoid hooks up the same. trans is a little longer so you will have to shorten the drive shaft. The rear diff is an S135 and is most likely extremely low geared. Aftermarket makes several better (higher) gearing choices.
That would be a big negative on the power stroke. That name is a ford brand for the design of the 7.3 turbo diesel that Navistar manufactured for them. The motor in this truck is a T444E which means turbo charged 444 cubic inch electronic injection. This motor makes less power than the variant made for ford but cranks more torque. It does have the exhaust back pressure valve or warm up valve as you called it. The lp and lpx versions sit low for fuel economy as they are meant to be long haul trucks that are road use only. The standard 4700 sits higher to be used in rougher terrain. The brake system is not electric over hydraulic. It is hydraulic with hydro boost and the hydro system has a backup electric motor built into it in the event of a power steering pump failure. Please study your vehicles before spreading disinformation to those who might not know. Anything above 210 hp which is the highest factory rating on these engines will greatly reduce reliability. These engines come in variations of 170hp, 190hp and 210hp.
Couple of notes: 1) my '04 4300 has 19.5 Alcoa wheels with 10 bolt pattern. So they are available. Maybe just an axel swap. I'd send pics, but the 'comments' do not allow. 2) Allison is owned by GMC. Asins (used in the Dodges) is owned by Toyota. 3) IH's wiring is a nightmare, or at least in '04 it is. I press the Fog rocker switch which pokes a micro switch which alerts the sub circuit board which tells the computer which turns on the fog lights. (Whew). I am ripping all that out and going to hard switches. (I'm old fashion that way). BTW - If you want to change what the switches do, IH will sell you a $600 program which lets you re-program the computer. 4) The IH engine is pretty bullet proof. Ford insisted on more horsepower and tweeked up the engines. That is why there are complaints about short life and injector failure. The stock International engines will run for ever.
Did you modify the frame to fit this bed or did someone else do it? Working on converting a 4700 I just purchased into a pickup like this and it I just can’t seem to find any good write ups or videos on the process of chopping the frame and installing a bed. Thanks
Allison builds a lot of really good transmissions. The AT545 isn't one of them. It's an overheating piece of crap when used for anything other that fairly level city delivery type routes...aka school buses use them.
Ditch the Allison, and put a 13 speed behind it. No only gives you amazing top end, you also gain fuel economy as well, because you have enough gear to let the rpms come down. Plus, it takes advantage of the massive rear end under it.
Was a trucker for 10 years (1,200,000 miles), but was pulled off for having issues with my CPAP (sleep machine). Driven everything except fuel and explosives. Doing this lil rig up big rig style only adds to the wow factor. Some aluminum fuel tanks (take offs from a junk yard, then polish to perfection. It'll really make her pop, plus international has polished side tank with aluminum steps to add to the being factor.
I have a 4900 chassis cab shorty. 466 with 6+1 trans. Fun to pull up next to a brodozer at a light and casually bump the throttle even though I wont win any races
From what I've heard, GM doesn't _actually_ have Allison transmissions in their Allison-branded Duramax trucks. Because, that's just what it is - Allison *_branded._* They're not really built by Allison. But they have allowed GM to put their brand on it. All it means is that Allison has approved the design or whatever.

Can't wait to see what you do with Stubby and the other builds... Wouldn't mind building something similar out of a crew cab International... So can have a comfortable, heavy duty family truck
I think I went with a 238cc hybrid injector on my 99 7.3 might be wrong on cc, with the T500 hpop and programmer she sings now it's unreal!! The 7.3 with stacks is gonna sound unreal amazing project brotha👍🤘👍
Who would just leave that setting... I ask, as I then have a flashback to my boss's brand new two year old Ford Excursion V10 that just sat out behind our shop for 15 years with like 10,000 miles because he could not afford to keep it fuelled up! LOL It was a right mess when we pulled it out, he sold it for pennies, someone got it going again I assume.
Looks like it'll be a cool build. Can't wait to see more episodes. Also, Ford is the only diesel truck manufacturer to build their own engine in house. As of 2011, they ended their partnership with Navistar, formally International, and design and build the Power Stroke exclusively in house. GM's Duramax, manufactured by Isuzu, is almost a GM engine as GM owns controlling stock in Isuzu making it a defacto GM company. Dodge still uses Cummins to design and build their engines, the only quality thing on their trucks, oops! Did I say that out loud!?🤣
I would absolutely buy this off you!! I am now looking for one of these lol I have a trucking company so I'm going to put a fithwheel on and make a car hauler.
Looking for a sunvisor like ypur where did you get that one, its from a different truck or custom made, and the bed came out from which truck, nice rig brother 👏👏
so i have to correct you the powerstroke has the same long block as the t444e but everything else is different hence why its a ford/navistar engine the t444e also has less power and torque than the powerstroke and is mechanical fuel pump vs electric you can do a simple bit of research and find every difference (theres a forum online) the powerstroke is a pickup/light duty engine the t444e is a medium duty engine
the 5 speed allison isnt that great the 6 speed is (the 5 speed can be built to b e great) gm pays allison to use there transmission just like stellantis/ram pays cummins to use there engine the new 10 spd isnt a real allison though gm makes it and says its an allison(theres info on google if ya dont believe me) allison has been making transmissions long befiore the duramax (even before the 6.2 and 6.5 detroit)
a better idea is to remove all of but 1 leaf spring ( remove the rubber bushings out the spring eyes and machine and install stainless steel bushings utilizing larger diameter bolts with holes drilled into them and the bushings to be able to grease them ) and fabricate brackets and mounts to install air bags ( old school semi`s use that very system ) using the factory leaf springs is a far simpler system
I just discovered your videos my friend. Very enjoyable. I like all the rebuild type videos, like yourself, vice grip garage ect. I believe back in the day Allison was part or GM,along with Detroit Diesel. Now Detroit is part of Mercedes-Benz,I'm not sure about Allison. And some years ago,Ford had a fall out with International. Now Ford diesels are a in-house design.
You may struggle with your injector selection and modification abilities to the engine, tuning if kinda iffy to get for the t444e version of the 7.3. I would recommend talking to a guy named Dan Kropinak with SDK performance
Hybrid 230s at least for injectors, adrenaline or terminator hpop, decent size turbo... Bottom end should hold up assuming it in good shape should be around 400hp and if u spring for a camshaft, you should get damn close to 500hp right there
I think those are some good add on’s for sure. I’m thinking of going straight to a T4 mount so we have some verity as far as turbos go. I’ll have to have the International ECU programmed and the only folks I know who can tune it is Power Hungry performance I believe. What are some good valve springs and push rods ? What about injectors ?
Your stubby truck has an Alison automatic transmission built by DETROIT DIESEL, for International truck and bus. Used in school busses and small trucks, like your stubby. The 7.3 international powerstroke in Ford products has a Ford transmission.
What happened to Stubby? I have been waiting to build one for a very long time way before it was cool build medium duty trucks. It a killer looking truck keep it up.
What if you put a pro charger take the turbos off put the pro charger in, or would that be overkill? I would only recommend one but since It has been done if you're looking up on UA-cam 7.3 l, Gasser on tune Put up some impressive numbers But I would only guess to me only use one Because I think it would definitely be overkill if There were 2 on that motor. Seeing what it done with the gas 7.3 l Untuned I wonder what it would do with a diesel 7.3 l?
Very cool truck love that the power stroke is actually international’s did know that one of the top trucks here for decades in Australia 🇦🇺 My grandfather bought two AA180s brand new in 59 sorry I had to sell the one I kept couldn’t restore it by myself it went to the son of the driver that got the other new truck to drive when he bought them Great job mate 👍💯🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘🦘
Ummm if that's the original engine then it's NOT a 7.3 Powerstroke it's a T444E, it only gets the "Powerstroke" name when it goes into a Ford. Allison has been producing transmissions for all brands of medium and heavy duty trucks for a very long time, it may have even been a division of GM a long time ago, it definitely wasn't in an international first though. Also EVERYBODY knows that the 7.3 was made by International, that bit of info wasn't bursting anyone's bubble

Nice rig. They make adapter to use semi rims. They look sweet done that way
Agreed …. Some 22.5’s would look sweet !

Saw a 7.3 with two rods out the side drive six miles back to the shop in a badly overloaded 450 Super Duty welding truck. The beast got Us home 👍
Allison Transmissions are absolutely bomb proof
Man a custom built “pipeliner style” flatbed would look killer on that rig
That’s exactly what I’m thinking
Exhaust plenums, cams, injectors, 5 inch turbo back, and a nice tune will get you going.

Very cool truck love that the power stroke is actually international’s did know that one of the top trucks here for decades in Australia 🇦🇺
My grandfather bought two AA180s brand new in 59 sorry I had to sell the one I kept couldn’t restore it by myself it went to the son of the driver that got the other new truck to drive when he bought them
Great job mate 👍💯🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘🦘
Thank you Simon. These trucks are definitely heavy duty !
Those Low Pro's look good with stacks on them. Good luck on the build(s)! Let us know if you need us.
They absolutely do look awesome !
We’ll definitely need your help getting it tuned.
Those 444e can not die lol
This is the rig fer hauling the camper trailer
If it was a 4 door it would be my perfect truck. Thing is a tow beast.
The 6.7 was the first diesel ford designed in-house since the 60’s the 6.0 and the 6.4 were international engines also
Love the channel brother. Keep up the awesome videos and be Safe out there.
Nashville, Tennessee
Thank you Tow Man !
This is such a sick build, I am actually seeing if there's a way to do this here in Australia
Thank you Nick 👍🏼
Ummm if that's the original engine then it's NOT a 7.3 Powerstroke it's a T444E, it only gets the "Powerstroke" name when it goes into a Ford. Allison has been producing transmissions for all brands of medium and heavy duty trucks for a very long time, it may have even been a division of GM a long time ago, it definitely wasn't in an international first though. Also EVERYBODY knows that the 7.3 was made by International, that bit of info wasn't bursting anyone's bubble
That AT545 is pissing its pants at the prospect of 500HP lol
blessed performance sells nice 7.3 kits and updated parts give them a look
Brought here by the 401... what ever happened to the other projects hinted at in this video? Sidelined for the plane instead?
