  • This time I've gone and bought an old Saab, I bid on this and forgot I had bid but actually won it for £150 plus fees. bit of a bargain for a diesel automatic I think.

Always a treat to have an Autoshine Cars video posted up for watching! Other car cleaning channels would do well to model their videos after yours... just the right amount of commentary, captions placed liberally, and your wonderful sense of humour behind it all! Great job as always! Wishing you a happy birthday coming up!

Is there ever a time that you say "screw it" and have to replace the carpet instead of cleaning it? It's amazing how bad some of the ones were before you cleaned them up nicely, but I imagine some people just destroy the carpet so badly with stains and stench that no amount of cleaning can get out.

I used to work as a valeter in a huge car dealership in Edinburgh in the 90's. The trade ins were given an 'auction clean' before heading off to the car auction.
Basic wash, quick vacuum, wet dust on the dashboard and centre console and inside glass cleaned.
I remember cleaning a Ford Granada Scorpio and while vacuuming the rear footwell, a pound coin popped out behind the plastic cover on the rear fixing of the drivers seat. As I lifted it up, another 13 escaped. That was the most lost money I found in an auction car.
You used to find the most bizarre things in these cars.

A nice pair of english hand made shoes or boots such as Loake, Alfred Sergeant, Trickers, Barkers, Cheaney, Church’s, Crockett and Jones, to name but a few from Northamptonshire, just make sure they ate English and not the cheaper imported versions. At your age a pair of proper shoes or boots will last you a lifetime. So happy Birthday and bye the way I am 70 in 5 weeks time Libras rule!

I have a black 93 NG 2008 model. Black estate, TiD Vector Sport. It was Autosmarted when I got it, immaculate and glass shiny paint. I keep it perfect with Meguairs QuikWax and all the snowfoam and two-bucket wee jobbies. Had to have a full respray in March too - some idiots from the Council angle-grinded next to it and covered the car with burns. New windscreen too with blobs of melted metal stuck to the old one. Wheels got restored in Nardo Grey, big brake kit fitted by Saab from an Aero HOT. Just had a new engine too. Mine popped at 133k miles (my fault - chip + 60k miles of fun = bang!) now has a 56,000 mile engine. Same chip tune on ECU but getting that lowered. These cars can go forever if you change the handles 28 times and heads 14 times. :D

I love watching your videos, and a lot of what you do and talk about I mimic on my cars.
I do have one critique though. I love the lance cam, and the speed up doesn't bother me at all. I actually like the fast back and forth zipping around the car. Other people on the other hand might get motion sickness from it. Not saying take lance cam out, but just something to watch out for.
    Keep making these awesome videos.
    Love, from the USA.

Great work as always Gary! Just one thing - using a magic eraser on the steering wheel
Leather isn’t a good idea. You’ll get away with it once and it will make the wheel look great as it’s removing the dirt and grease but it’s also removing the dye. That’s what most of the black on the eraser is. After two or three goes (depending on how much/hard you scrub) you’ll start getting lighter areas where the dye has all been removed.

I would love to see a video from yourself giving us hints and tips on how you clean cars, but at normal speed. Also on what products you use. I just looked up the wax you mentioned in this video. Looks good but an instruction video would be useful. There are too many American made videos on youtube which show products you simply cannot get in the UK. Cheers mate and thanks for the videos!

I don't know why but this one really pleased me. You took a £200 unloved car and turned it into somewhat of a desirable one. I don't know some might see it as an old banger but that is one nice car! 😀👍

Yet again an amazing job you do. And for your birthday maybe something like Ami does a treasure hunt meaning she writes small notes around the home for you to follow and at the end you get your gift that been the one thing you love the most Ami ? Then you both go spend some time together just you and ami and no interruptions then a meal then home for a movie you both love togehter and cuddle up ?

Moose seemed to enjoy the new music, a bit of bopping going on there at 11.01. I hope you collect all those coins you hoover up and drop them in the charity box! good work as usual.

you can use lacquer thinner to make the saab logos shine like new again! I'm suprised you didn't fix the logos, it really makes the car look much better!

Happy birthday! Think a wee break away somewhere is in order? I'm not long back from a cruise. We went to Venice, Croatia etc and it was fantastic. Best place ever was Venice but Montenegro was beautiful. Cost a bit (could have bought a car!) but we had a balcony suite. There's cheaper options and if you can find an all inclusive cruise for good and booze you don't end up with a big bill at the end.

You have good tastes in cars. I have a 9-5 Aero and it's been surprisingly reliable. People are scared of it cos the company's gone but like you said it's mostly made of GM parts.

I'm surprised how intact the body work on older cars in the UK is in such good shape. Here in the northern U.S., they use a lot of salt and de-icing chemicals on the roads in winter. It just devours the metal on cars in no time at all. Dissolves body panels, chrome work, radiators, floorboards, everything. Three-to-five year old cars look like crap oftentimes.
